I saw the midwife yesterday but she isnt the normal midwife. Mine is shielding until the end of june. She is also only a maternity cover, so I will probably have a different midwife from 28 weeks or so, although it will be the midwife I had with my first DC who was amazing. Honestly, I found the midwife was great to have but they just did appointments. I didnt tend to go to them with concerns. After 20 weeks I rang the hospital numbers on the front of my notes, and then during the birth I had two separate midwives and a student midwife (shift change). After the birth of DC1 my midwife went on holiday to Las Vegas 😆 so I had two different midwives come to check and discharge me and baby. There isnt continuity normally anyway.

Addler · 28/05/2020 13:39

There's so much variation. My booking appt was in person and I've been told my 16 week one will be as well.

Hancock2020 · 28/05/2020 14:54

Anyone looking for private scans, I've also just sent a message to window to the womb and they are now offering all scans again

TangBloodyFastic · 28/05/2020 14:55

Has everyone had their form/certificate for free prescriptions?
I don't need anything but my friend has got hers as she's consultant led but I've had nothing/no mention of it?

Pink15 · 28/05/2020 14:56

@DPSawMyUsername apologies that was major baby brain thinking you could get a vaccine over the phone 😂 honestly my brain has gone to mush!! But could be staying at home and lack of social interaction!

My midwife said to speak to my GP about the vaccine it seemed they organised it rather than my midwife. I think it's optional which is why it's not set in stone in any appointment.

Pink15 · 28/05/2020 14:58

I think medical reason for scan is very vague. I don't think you need to lie. Just say for reassurance/anxiety I think that's true in most cases. But I agree with @Hancock2020 I think window to the womb are going back to normal scans from June.

@TangBloodyFastic my midwife gave me a form which I sent off in the post. Not sure how long it's meant to take to arrive?

Fouryearslater · 28/05/2020 15:03

I’ve been quite pukey these last couple of days, @FilthyforFirth, but you are definitely being hit harder than me. It’s reminiscent of my last pregnancy now where I’d get no real warning and just barf. It’s so tiresome.

MrsR87 · 28/05/2020 15:03

Hey all

I’ve been AWOL for a couple of weeks...been really busy at work and couldn’t keep up with the threads!

I just had my 16 weeks midwife appointment and have been told my PAPP-A levels are low, although they didn’t tell me how low. I’ve now changed from midwife to consultancy led care and have an extra scan booked in for September. My midwife doesn’t seem too concerned and says it happens in a number of pregnancies but I have just stupidly googled it and have managed to worry myself. Has anyone has the same?

MeandSpud · 28/05/2020 15:06

It is crazy the differences between trusts! I had my 16 week appointment over the phone yesterday - just a quick 5 minute call. Then I had my whopping cough vaccine this morning!
Also, with the free prescription form, I spoke to my midwife about it during my booking appointment at 10 weeks and she emailed it to me while I was still on the phone to her! (Mind you, I had needed to have 3 prescriptions by then, which I still need to try to claim back!)

TangBloodyFastic · 28/05/2020 15:07

@Pink15 I don't think there is any plans for me to see my midwife until 28weeks. It's not necessary at the moment for me to have this letter/form/certificate but it's odd that we seem to have no idea what's happening with our care as every trust is different and every midwife seems to work differently
It seems there is no set schedule for anything? Is it normally like this or is this purely down to covid?

I'm not in the least bit stressed/anxious about seeing midwife as, so far (touch wood), I've had no issues! If I were to be close to giving birth and had no idea what's happening I'd be extremely anxious

DPSawMyUsername · 28/05/2020 15:09

We've got a private scan booked for tomorrow. It does state on their site that they are only do these for medical reasons and for 15 weeks + they're doing "reassurance scans" that can also tell you the gender but this is not what the appointment is intended for. Loopholes everywhere. I don't think you need to outright lie, a scan is always reassuring 😉

bluebell94 · 28/05/2020 15:11

Hi all 👋🏻 got my 16 week appointment on Wednesday. 25 days until my anomaly scan (not that I'm counting!😂) I'll be 19+1.
Bump seems to be appearing this week, saw in laws briefly the other day and MIL exclaimed 'look at your little pot belly!' 🤣 it's helping me to feel a bit more pregnant anyway 😀

LozEliza · 28/05/2020 15:38

Re: whooping cough vaccine, it did get mentioned to me at my booking in appt. Then the phlebotomist mentioned it when I had my bloods but I told him the midwife said I needed it later into pregnancy. Whilst waiting for my 12 week scan I heard them asking ladies at their 20 week scan whether they'd had it yet. So it seems as though it gets offered there if you haven't had the chance already. At my 15 week (also rushed and brief) midwife appointment she didn't mention it at all (there is no consistency though I have seen a different mw literally every appt). All my appts have been in person except booking in so they can test my urine.

@seventhrow I just went through all local scanning centres until I found somewhere that was still doing it and got my booking by a bit of a fluke really (I wanted a gender reveal package). But my local centres are all starting to take bookings as normal again from 1 June which isn't long to wait. A medical reason doesn't have to be symptoms it can simply be for reassurance and your own mental wellbeing they would still be allowed to offer you the scan. A lot of places I've seen it advertised simply as 'reassurance scans only'. Trust me the place I went to said they'd been rushed off their feet.

Hancock2020 · 28/05/2020 16:54

Just watched an episode of friends and they are sat in a restaurant and I just keep thinking I want to be in a restaurant having a nice meal lol

TeddyTMP · 28/05/2020 17:19

Hey, place keeping on the new thread :-)

My 16 week scan is next week and face to face with the same midwife who I had my booking appointment with x

Murphy1999 · 28/05/2020 18:04

It's so sad to hear all you ladies having problems with your midwives etc i have the same midwife all through and Its the same midwife from my previous pregnancy too, she's always phoning making sure I have everything I need prescription wise and am keeping good
We also have a scan at the window to the womb at the end off June but it is classed as a reassurance scan but when we were there for early pregnancy scan this is what was put through when as too book a gender scan Smile

Clove20 · 28/05/2020 18:19

Hi Everyone.

I have been mostly quiet on the threads because I'm suffering from one thing or another everyday and while Working from home and home schooling I've just had enough.

At the minute it's my hayfever which is terrible every year, but worse when you don't quiet know what to do about it. Last year I ended up having an injection because nothing else was working.

I've also got this on and off pain in my bum, which my partner thinks is sciatica, because when the pain comes I have to drag my left leg to sit down.

Ahhh the joys of pregnancy.

Addler · 28/05/2020 18:47

@Clove20 sorry to hear things have been tough. I've also had what I think is sciatica, at the top of my left butt cheek and I've had it every single day since around 8 weeks. I wouldn't think it could be pregnancy-related that early on but it's not going at all, even with sciatica stretches and yoga. Walking makes it worse.

Dcw20 · 28/05/2020 19:32

Hi 👋

I’m new to this thread as I’ve had a pretty complicated pregnancy so far so I haven’t posted.

I’m due 2nd November with my first baby, currently 17+3 😊

I’ve had a different midwife for each appointment so far and on my 16 week phone appointment they said they are trying to alternate between face to face and in person appointments. I have to try and get my Whooping cough vaccine at my GP during a 25 week appointment - not sure if my GP is seeing patients though?

OurLittlePumpkin · 28/05/2020 20:29

Hi ladies
I've had a pain in my upper stomach (just abov belly button) since lunchtime. The only way I can describe it, is like a stretching)/muscular pain. It is noticeable when I stand or sit down, take a deep breath in, cough or sneeze. I know ligament pain is in the lower region so not really sure what this pain could be as it's higher up. Anyone ever had anything similar? Bit worried and not sure if I should be concerned or relax and see what happens.

Upalln1ght · 28/05/2020 20:38

Hello, I have been following for a couple of threads and wanted to say Hi to everyone.

I'm 17 weeks with baby number 2 (a boy), due Nov 4th.

I had a face-to-face 16 week appointment and I luckily got to hear the heartbeat which I didn't expect, as it seems lots of trusts aren't doing this at the moment. All was well and my midwife is lovely although a bit scatty!

This pregnancy has so far been more challenging. The nausea and exhaustion have been an absolute killer up until last week when it started to finally ease, and it's been really tough with a toddler during lockdown. I have an anterior placenta so I haven't felt any kicks yet which is giving me anxiety as I felt them from 15 weeks with my 1st. I'm constantly feeling my stomach for any kind of movement!
Feeling much better this week and craving ALL the food.

Congratulations to all of you and looking forward to joining in the chat

Pink15 · 28/05/2020 20:44

@OurLittlePumpkin how far along are you? I think around 15/16 weeks or less your uterus is still below your belly button so hopefully digestive pain or growing pain rather than anything worrying :)

@Upalln1ght welcome!

It's nice to see this thread getting a bit busier again!

OurLittlePumpkin · 28/05/2020 20:54

@Pink15 16 weeks today. I did think it may be uterus growing pains but wasn't sure how far up it would be by now - didn't think it'd be high so still unsure. Hubby has recommended we keep an eye and see how I am tomorrow morning. I don't have work so free all day to rest thank goodness

Hancock2020 · 28/05/2020 20:54

Is anyone having problems getting a flow of pee? I'm literally just going for a dribble not a pee, but really need to go Confused

Wise0wl · 28/05/2020 23:22

Checking in - work for me continues to be totally mad.

@seventhrow I like the anonymity of MN (and don’t really use Facebook), haven’t bought a thing and have only told two friends that I’m pregnant (not even family or work yet). So I’m definitely not preparing in the slightest! Also planning a scan pre-20 weeks so DH can come along.

Also lacking in midwife attention a bit here. I saw one midwife at my dating scan but she’s not my ‘named’ midwife (in my folder) and it wasn’t a midwife who did my booking in appt but an admin person. Will see what happens for my 16wk call next week...
