For anyone who was thinking of signing up, the positive birth company (online hypnobirthing) have a £10 off voucher if you type masterclass (just seen it on insta and I've signed up myself now!) valid until tomo at midnight x

FourPlasticRings · 30/05/2020 21:40

Thanks @AutumnBabyWinterMummy, I'll take a look now.

NWnature · 30/05/2020 22:44

Hey @Buzz22 I can’t feel anything yet either. I thought I was sort of a couple of weeks ago but I think it was just gas as haven’t really felt anything for ages. Nerve wracking but have to be patient I guess!

Hope everyone’s enjoyed the sunshine today !

Zaalfruit · 30/05/2020 23:17

I have been googling it , ftm like us , don’t always feel the kicks early on - it’s quite late. I have got a huge lower belly muffin top and I think that’s why I can’t feel the kicks. Just 2 and half weeks and then 24 weeks and I will start to panic .

How much weight is acceptable to gain over pregnancy ? My midwife said 1 stone is but anything above that isn’t great . I have already put on 4kg so I’m worried 😧 I have four months left so most likely my weight
Will exceed 1 stone . And if you are a mummy already how did you shift the weight or you didn’t gain a lot and the baby weight just went down quickly . ( I’m 5’2 so if I put on a lot I will just look like a penguin )

FourPlasticRings · 30/05/2020 23:25

I put on over two stone, I think. @Zaalfruit. It just fell off with the breastfeeding and I was back to pre-pregnancy weight by about 7-8 months post partum. Most women I know haven't had an issue losing the weight afterwards.

I don't think they're supposed to monitor your weight gain as it's different for every mum and every pregnancy- it's your pre-pregnancy weight that matters. I just avoid scales like the plague and try to eat relatively healthily. I really wouldn't waste much headspace on it, if I were you.

Spark27 · 30/05/2020 23:50

@Zaalfruit I'm not sure how much I put on last time, probably around 1.5 to 2st. I remember putting a FB post up a week after I had given birth to say I had lost a stone in a week! Think that was all baby weight, placenta, fluid (amniotic, the extra blood you have, etc). The fluid retention is crazy. I remember walking to SCBU in the days after labour and being able to feel the excess fluid in by body sloshing around in my feet. And I sweated a lot out in the first few weeks (it's a good idea to sleep with mattress protectors and old bedding for that).

I dont remember it being that difficult to lose the weight, it's just a case of appreciating that it will take a while for it to go, just like it takes time to gain it. Looking after a baby, and then chasing a toddler keeps you active. Ignore all celeb stories about bouncing back in weeks. It will take months, but it will happen. xx

Zaalfruit · 31/05/2020 06:39

Aww that’s good to hear. I just want to be healthy - the 5kg I feel like is a struggle for me already walking up the 3 storey.
Yeah I have read if you eat clean after birth some weight just vanishes . Because I’m 5’2 my bmi goes high so quick, also with the under active thyroid weight gain happens so fast .

Hope today is a great day - despite my bladder waking me up at 6 - I tried to hold it out till now to go bathroom .

Mornings are my favourite time of the day , where all you hear are birds and the silence - trying to enjoy this , before baby comes - just feel like she will be disturbing my morning peace 🤣😂

Spark27 · 31/05/2020 07:40

I think my daughter is either going through a sleep regression, or a combination of all the 'changes' (lockdown, new room, potty training, new baby coming) is playing havoc. These next few weeks are going to be tough. I'm so tired.

Pleased you're having a good morning @zaalfruit. Hope everyone has a great day xx

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 31/05/2020 07:52

@NWnature I also thought I'd felt things a few weeks ago, but it all stopped. But strangely last night after saying I'd felt nothing I started feeling sort of like a wave feeling just one wave, then maybe 5 mins later another wave for about half an hour. Not sure if this is it or not 🤷‍♀️ so hard to know.

@Zaalfruit I have put on 8.5 pounds. I just weigh weekly (not because I'm obsessed with my weight but just because don't want an unhealthy pregnancy.) Which is about the same you've put on. I think it depends on your before bmi. I'm 5ft5 if that helps. For me when I looked into this on lots of sites it said a weight gain of 13-18 pounds would be acceptable. Just be careful as lots of sites say different things but I just used the reputable ones. Xx

FourPlasticRings · 31/05/2020 08:09

@Spark27

Oof, sounds rough! Probably a lot of changes plus lockdown, as you say. And of course toddler logic 😂. We've been potty training too but we're not moving DD into a new room until Baby2 gets to about a year old- plan is to have Baby2 bunk with us until then as it puts the maximum distance between Baby2 and DD- hopefully it'll minimise wake ups! Got to try and get the other room cleared and decorated before October though! 😱

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy

I'd go by the NHS regarding weight gain if you feel the need to monitor it:
'Weight gain in pregnancy varies greatly. Most pregnant women gain between 10kg and 12.5kg (22lb to 26lb), putting on most of the weight after week 20.'

www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/how-much-weight-will-i-put-on-during-my-pregnancy/

Looks like your midwife was vastly underestimating what counts as acceptable weight gain @Zaalfruit!

Treaclepie19 · 31/05/2020 08:17

I'm aiming for a stone gained because I'm already just in the obese category. I lost 7lbs which I've put back on so trying to only gain a stone from now.

I'm feeling quite sick and full the past few days though so maybe baby will limit it for me.

Thanks ladies I'll try not to worry for another few weeks about baby moving. Hopefully be reassured at the scan on Tuesday.

@Zaalfruit the NHS website says 1.5 -2 stone. But my friends that recently had babies both put on over 4 stone. It seems to be dropping off them very quickly though. They were both about a size 10/12 pre pregnancy so put on more than recommended for their BMI. If you are underweight before I think you are expected to gain more than 1.5-2 stone and if you are overweight then should gain less. But it obviously seems to vary massively. I dont know when midwives start weighing us again?

Anyone still suffering for bad heartburn? Mine got to a point last week where I couldn't eat or even move without it being set off. Gaviscon helps but I was drinking bottles of it a day. And the combination of acid reflux and antacids was making me actually vomit. The midwife told me to speak to GP.
So on friday the GP prescribed omeprazole which you take once a day in the morning. You can still use antacids along side it but it hasn't helped much yet. I felt heartburn free for the first time yesterday so managed to eat a proper dinner for the first time in days. Immediately got bad heartburn and threw up all evening. I'm getting concerned I might actually lose weight if I cant eat a decent meal and keep vomiting. I'm quite slim so cant afford to drop much. I didn't get bad morning sickness. Had nausea and was sick a few times but certainly didn't suffer as bad or for as long as many of you.
Feeling fed up, hungry and weak.

Indigogirl88 · 31/05/2020 08:25

Morning girls, I am seriously sun burnt 🙈 as I spent yesterday outside. Woke up at 4.30 and been chilling since.

Re weight gain I'm 5"2 @Zaalfruit and I've already put on at least 12 lbs I keep meaning to weigh myself again, but I found that I have evened out the last couple of weeks. My size 14 maternity Jean's were too big so I've ordered size 12 which is my pre pregnancy size so I'm happy about that. I lost a lot of weight last year and my BMI was normal and pre pregnancy I definately wasnt bigger but it was January so probably had a few extra pounds still from xmas. Anyway I'm less worried now I look pregnant and not just fat haha!

I found some cute non pregnancy but stretchy dresses in tesco yesterday and bought one as it was cotton I'm really struggling to find things online!

Baby was making the weirdest movements last night and I could feel either a bum or head on one side as it was hard, then it moved! Was so lovely.

I downloaded the kicks count app which has helped me focus on the kicks rather than if its gas etc but I do agree the early feelings are very similar

Enjoy the sunshine today ladies Grin

FourPlasticRings · 31/05/2020 08:26

I dont know when midwives start weighing us again?

I don't think they do. Seems to be an American thing.

Buzz22 · 31/05/2020 08:41

@FourPlasticRings I have no idea! I assumed they did? But only semi going by other pregnant friends stories.
I know one of the over 4 stone-weight-gain friends was weighed by midwife as that's how she knew how much she had put on. The other was a vet on got on the pet scales at work and wasnt best pleased with herself for gaining so much!
I have never got past 22 weeks so no idea what happens at midwife appointments from then on. I know they measure bump. Is it the bump measurement that gives them reason for possibly needed growth scans?

LexiM · 31/05/2020 08:51

Morning all! I also love the birds in the morning when it’s all quiet 😄

I thought it was 1.5-2 stone - very confusing if the midwife says something completely different to the NHS guidance. I’m still doing ok weight wise but trying not to focus on it too much as can feel myself becoming obsessive about it. I’ve never been obsessed before and I’ve never been slim anyway so it’s silly!
My SIL is dropping off a huge bag of maternity clothes she used when pregnant last year which is really kind of her and also gives me some options.

Sorry to anyone suffering heartburn, I’m sure I will at some point but luckily not yet.

@Spark27 sorry your daughter isn’t sleeping well, I expect she’s aware of all the changes and it’s light/noisier outside earlier now. I hope you do get some rest.

Anyone that’s had multiple scans/private scans as well as NHS - How much time have you had between each scan? Private clinics are allowing my husband now but not sure when to book for! Obviously ASAP is the answer he wants but have my NHS one coming up and don’t know if it’s bad to have too many near each other.

Treacle81 · 31/05/2020 09:14

Morning girls! I suffer with really bad heartburn on and off but just drink my Peptac out the bottle at the onset and defo works. @Indigogirl88 funny you say that as for a few days I have felt a v hard, like boney part on and off and have said oh that’s his bum sticking out and partner is like, no chance it’s still tiny. So it’s a weird one but it defo feels so different to the usual light kicks and when you feel it, it’s all hard, quite uncomfortable and doesn’t move (until baby moves). Weird! Another glorious day girls! 4 stone does seem a lot to gain (IMO) yea I thought around 2 max. I’m usually an 8-10 and went up to a size 12 heavily pregnant last time and was back to pre pregnancy weight within a fortnight. Everyone is different though xx

CouscousEvaporator · 31/05/2020 09:27

I asked about weight gain at my 16 week phone call and my midwife said she won’t be weighing me at all any more. She said it causes more worry than necessary. I’m worried because I haven’t actually put any on. It’s concerning me as my app keeps saying about growth problems with the baby if I don’t start putting it on 🙁 I’m aiming for a stone and a half I think.

I managed to video my belly moving this morning! Can’t differentiate between head and bum though!!

Going to go for a long walk today and put the next to me up to try it next to the bed. Fingers crossed it fits, I really can’t be bothered with sending it all back...😫

Hope you all enjoy the sun today. Loving this weather.

Zaalfruit · 31/05/2020 09:37

I think maybe because of my under active thyroid - they weight me and keep an eye on me . I was at a healthy weight before I got pregnancy for my height - I lost a lot of weight early pregnancy but the last three weeks - I have gone bigger and I can feel the weight on myself . I think it’s trust to trust about weight - my friend put on a staggering 6 stones and her trust said nothing.
I am not weighing myself everyday just at random but after the midwife convo on Thursday it got me thinking.

@Buzz22 same as you trying not to worry about kicks . I am not going to down load kicks app till week 24 . I have been on omeprazole since the beginning it will kick in after a few days , but I take a combination of rennies, gavinscon and drinking semi skimmed milked or low fat yoghurt . Try and avoid tomato’s as they are a common trigger.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 31/05/2020 09:37

@FourPlasticRings maybe you're right and I was being too hard on myself. I did research right at the beginning now I can't remember where I got the info from. Oh well that's good to know. I hadn't been careful anyway just eating what I fancied. X

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 31/05/2020 09:39

In fact on the talk of weight gain, me and OH just treated ourselves to a take our breakfast from this gorgeous cafe. I had pancakes with Nutella and caramelised bananas it was delicious 😋 x

Quiffy · 31/05/2020 10:06

@Zaalfruit it was absolutely amazing, cannot wait to see them again. Hoping phase 2 comes in soon so we can go stay with them for a few days.

I was wondering if we get weighed again. I'm hoping not, I know they don't change your bmi during so fingers crossed. I have a midwife appointment next Friday so will see then. Carbs help with nausea so I've put on the stone I lost and more from start.

Hope everyone enjoys the sun, I'm inside with a fan as it's too warm 😹

BooMamaBear · 31/05/2020 10:14

I actually weighed less after having my baby than I did before I got pregnant and my stomach went straight back to being flat the day ami gad her - though I had a bit of spare skin which also went fairly quickly!
I don't think this'll happen this time with my bump already being big my stomach muscles are obviously rubbish so I think Ill have to lose weight myself this time!
I did lose 2 stone on my own kast year coz after I had baby 4 years ago I started putting weight on last year but just exercise and portion control sorted it! Xx

Zaalfruit · 31/05/2020 10:49

From all of this the conclusion is some weight just goes away straight away and some we will ah e to work hard to take off . I’m trying to do some exercise - I miss the gym I used to run 3 times away .

@Spark27 - the lock down might be making all the kids change a bit - I do hope you can get some rest and some sleep xxx Does your dd take naps?

FourPlasticRings · 31/05/2020 11:16

I know they measure bump. Is it the bump measurement that gives them reason for possibly needed growth scans?

Yes, essentially. Even that's not an exact science though!

Sounds scrummy @AutumnBabyWinterMummy! We've got DD and DH's birthdays next week so I'm being fairly good in preparation. Plus GTT at 28 weeks (the joys!).

@LexiM I had one at 32 weeks and one at 36 weeks last time, in line with what they do in many other developed countries. This time, I'm skipping the 32 week one unless I have concerns because that's mainly for growth, but still having the 36 week one for the umbilical cord doppler- checks blood flow through the umbilical cord and is an indicator of the health of the placenta- and to pick up any undiagnosed breech positioning, potentially preventing an EMCS. If you're going for the cute 3D pics, the 32 week one is great- by 36 weeks everything is getting a little squashed in there!
