I'm going to try breast feeding but tbh I want my husband to help with the occasional night feed so they plan is to combi feed from about 2 weeks. Hopefully baby will still want to breast feed but if he prefers the bottle I'll pump. Plan is (and this might be harder in practice) to take it as it comes and not give myself a hard time about it. My mum suffered post natal depression with both me and my brother so I feel hyper aware i might get it too so trying to go easy on myself as much as I can (and already thinking about how me and husband are going to take turns going to the gym etc and do nice things to look after ourselves for our mental health)

Good afternoon girls,

I have just spent ages catching up, congrats on those who have had a scan and all is well yay for team pink.

I have just ordered my loft ladders so I can go and dig out what baby stuff I have from my daughter, cannot wait and I know it's wierd to be excited when I don't know for sure but I found her pink mittens the other day and nearly melted.

Had my midwife appointment last week, baby had strong heartbeat and won't see her now til 24 weeks. Have a scan on Tuesday next week its the 20 week one I will be 19+5 by then I am sooo nervous as this is when hydrops was found on my first eldest daughter.

How are you all doing? Which bottles have you all decided on if you are using them or prams have u gone for?

I have had mam bottles before they are great for preventing colic but they do tend to leak. A vent,or standard my boys didn't take to and choosing the milk is going to be fun as I have tried em all on my four other kids.

I have felt emotional recently and very sickly too which is the worst feeling especially if u can't be sick.

Hope ur all okay

FourPlasticRings · 27/05/2020 13:54

Taking it as it comes is a good idea @MrsD1990. I found I didn't actually want to leave my DD at all once she arrived and it took a good couple of months to get myself out and doing stuff. No way of knowing how you'll feel until you're there.

The amazing thing about mum guilt is that it can (and does) strike whatever choices you make, so try not to pin too much on any one path at this point. Don't feel like you'll have failed if you don't get to the gym or whatever it is you've decided you'll do. Take each day as it comes. It'll be fine. Smile

BntTowers · 27/05/2020 14:12

It's so great having this group, such good knowledge from everyone. I think I'm going to try to bf and then pump so DH can take over some of the night feeds, but again will see how we go. I'm kinda hoping not to use formula, purely because our house has three stories and the kitchen is on the ground and our room right at the top and it would feel like such an effort to go all the way downstairs to get the bottles sorted!

@Quiffy not long until your scan now! Mines the day after.

I had a team meeting today and they were asking to see my bump, conveniently the camera on my computer doesn't move enough for a photo of anything more than my head. I'm not the best at showing my body off at the best of times and at the moment I don't want to go out of my way as I just feel lumpy. DH's sister has been asking for photos as well and I kinda feel like I'm letting them down, but at the end of the day it's my body and I'm not comfortable taking photos of it. If they were to see me that's different.

BooMamaBear · 27/05/2020 14:19

I gave my baby bottles before 6 weeks coz despite what they say I had a good latch but my boobs we're still. so sore at first so I pumped some into bottles to give my boobs a rest coz she'd feed every two hours for an hour!
I dunno if that's why she took to bottles so easy whenever I offered her one and switched over to formula at 6 months or if she was just an easy baby but it didn't have any adverse affect on my breast feeding, I think you need to keep offering them bottles so they don't reject it when you get to 6 months!! Xx

Indigogirl88 · 27/05/2020 14:28

I feel pretty confused about bf but bf would be my preference but dp reckons itll be easy to pump and he can do a few feeds as well, unfortunately it doesn't work that way. I've just popped the Haaka into my Amazon order though hehe.

Well my harness sling turned up, omg I was so excited to try it on, I put it on with a teddy inside 😂

BooMamaBear · 27/05/2020 14:42

😂 did the teddy like it?
You could try both pump some for night so dp could help just bear in mind though if you're pumping and feeding your boobs might take some time to give you the milk supply you need plus if you don't bf at night at al you might find that your boobs are engorged and very sore in the morning so you might just want to get used to bf first! Xx

MrsD1990 · 27/05/2020 14:52

@Indigogirl88 which sling did you get? I'm thinking of buying one soon!

Quiffy · 27/05/2020 15:24

@MsSian93 really glad your blood pressure is under control - hopefully no GTT!

@Zaalfruit I'm still on my anti-sickness meds, like you I'm worried it will be even worse if I stop.

@Treaclepie19 That sounds like a great idea for your MH, no pressure whatsoever!

@Aquablue1123 I've been binge watching Ink Master to avoid baby lists until scan is over so snap! Although I've noticed baby kicks more when it's on and I'm they're starting to think Oliver Peck is their sweary dad... As despite being in same house DH is working really long hours so I've spent way more time with Ink Master over the last few weeks.

@BntTowers with you on bump photos. When I take photos I look like a beached whale so dont want to send to anyone. Only my parents have seen on facetime. Defo your body so you decide. What time is your scan on Friday?

@Indigogirl88 That is super cute on the bear!

BntTowers · 27/05/2020 16:12

@Quiffy 10.20, I'm so glad it's in the morning this time, last time it wasn't until 4pm and they were running about 45 minutes late where I had to be in the waiting room. How about you?

@Indigogirl88 I was thinking about doing that when I get hold of ours. Also was thinking about using reusable nappies and testing them on a teddy before hand... What sling did you go for?

I had ordered a few cute bits from paperchase and they came today, a little elephant nightlight, giraffe toy and some moment photo cards.

Treaclepie19 · 27/05/2020 16:24

@Indigogirl88 I did that with a teddy at 30 weeks pregant with my now 4yo. Worked well!

I'm so impatient for my scan now. Hurry up Monday!

Indigogirl88 · 27/05/2020 17:01

It's the Nuna cudl sling, on kiddies kingdom it was £150 I think and they couldnt price match one we found on a site in Bournemouth so we ordered it and came next day!

So the plot thickens with my mat leave, aparently baby is inappropriately coming when other people have annual leave 😂

Indigogirl88 · 27/05/2020 17:02

The one we found was £89 which I know is steep still but we will use it loads on walks rather than the pram due to having a big dog

LexiM · 27/05/2020 17:39

@indigogirl88 how inconsiderate of you not to time it better! 😂 my husband has been told due to coronavirus he might not get more than 2 weeks off because everyone is going to want holiday later in the year. Totally understand but you would think they would be a bit flexible. Only good thing is he works from home anyway so will be around. I’m hoping they all want holiday over the summer and Christmas seeing as they have to take it or loose it anyway.

That sling looks good. I have no idea how to guess which sling to get, I’ve heard it’s easier getting it either earlier or after baby is born as it’s hard to try out once there’s a bigger bump. I was showing my husband how i’d learnt the best way to pick up a newborn using a teddy last week... yes I’m learning the small stuff!!

I’m also tempted to get the Hakka, seems to have good reviews and being so cheap doesn’t seem like too much of a waste if it doesn’t work for me.
@BooMamaBear yes I read if you want to introduce a bottle you have to then keep regularly offering a bottle otherwise later on it’s likely they won’t take it. I feel like there’s so much pressure to make a decision within the first month on what you want to do otherwise it’s too late later on! I’m trying to read up but not have too much of a plan and wait and see how it goes.

@BntTowers hope tomorrow goes well, I agree about an early appointment, I had 9.30 last time so was straight in. I also felt less nervous about when to pee and drink as I just went when I got up and drank 1 hour before. Monday mine is 1.30pm so not too late but would prefer earlier 😄

Zaalfruit · 27/05/2020 17:46

Hey everyone - so I went the the antenatal ward to see my midwife turned out she is also a community nurse and some one started home birth so she had to dash - they told me to go to another hospital As they were understaffed but I was like I don’t fancy it and my eyes started tearing ( no idea why so mortified ) , told them I want to go home . - started driving and got a million miss calls from an unknown number pulled up and it was a nurse /midwife checking that I was alright - she spoke to me for an hour and said it might be pre natel depression and might be because it took me so long to get pregnant I’m worried that something will happen so I don’t want to be too invested to protect myself and they want me to go in 2’mrw to another hospital for a scan and bloods and a chat . Just to see how I’m feeling - I explained it all , how my bump is small the nausea , lock down not seeing my nan or parents , it feels great to get it off my chest . How I’m scared I don’t feel flutters or movement . The baby is in the smaller percentile. Just let it all out and I think as the convo was in the car and dh wasn’t there I just felt more free .

What is nipple confusion ? Who gets nipple confusion .. enjoying reading about the bf things . I think I’m going to be hopeful to bf if it’s not for me I’m not going to be mom shamed I will take it in my stride and bottle feed. Positive thinking gives a positive outcome lol been following to much mindfulness on instagram.

Treacle81 · 27/05/2020 18:23

@Zaalfruit well done you 🙌🏻 That could have not been easy for you but the difficult part is over now, your mw knows now that you might need extra support which is ok. Just as long as you get the help you need before your daughter is born 💕. Actually in tears typing this, we just have such a time during this pandemic xx

BooMamaBear · 27/05/2020 18:26

Glad you managed to get everything off your chest
nipple confusion is where the baby gets confused if you use bottle and breast as they know it's not the same but similar they may not take either or only accept one people say it can disrupt bf but I don't think it's very common i have my baby a bottle after a few weeks (with breast milk) and she didn't get confused she took food whether I bf or expressed! Xx

Zaalfruit · 27/05/2020 19:20

Thank you @Treacle81 - admitting was the hardest part and thank you everyone for being so supportive - would have just kept it bottled up And not opened up xxxx

@BooMamaBear thank you for explaining I thought the nipple got confused about the milk. In my head I had the weirdest image - a baby trying to latch on the left boob but the right boob was leaking . 😂😅 my sils used to only bf the dream feed and the rest where bootle either with breast milk or formula and their babies where fine . Never thought a baby could get confused over a nipple and a bottle . However makes sense that it is a possibility .

NWnature · 27/05/2020 19:31

@Treacle81 it made me tear up too. @Zaalfruit so pleased you had the conversation! Sometimes it’s easier over the phone so now when you see them face to face it’s going over bits you’ve already got out in the open. Take care of yourself. Hopefully they can give you some reassurance and support 💗

FourPlasticRings · 27/05/2020 19:47

Well done @Zaalfruit!

BooMamaBear · 27/05/2020 20:03

@Zaalfruit -nipple confusion is one of the things hv tell you about which I always take with a pinch of salt - like when they say if you have a perfect latch bf doesn't hurts-when I was ftm it hurt for the first week but then stopped and I had a perfect latch! My midwife told me it can hurt at first even with a perfect latch so I was prepared for it!! Xx

LostinAusten2 · 27/05/2020 20:16

So glad you had that conversation @Zaalfruit 🥰 - tearing up here too - we’re having to put up with so much!

My 20 week scan’s tomorrow and will go watch some mindless box set to get my mind off it, fingers crossed for everyone else with scans coming up 🤞 xx

BntTowers · 27/05/2020 20:27

@Zaalfruit, I'm glad you managed to get all that off your chest, it sounds like you really needed to and you'll get some help now. There is so much to go through at the moment.

Good luck for those with scans tomorrow @LostinAusten2 & @Quiffy.

I do find it funny that people don't want time off when there's going to be lovely weather. We had an email go round asking us to take time off now as everybody had cancelled all their holidays. Walking around where we live you would think that lockdown is completely over, it's driving me a bit insane.

Spark27 · 27/05/2020 21:05

Good luck for the scans tomorrow @LostinAustin2 and @Quiffy. Enjoy seeing your babies again.

So pleased you spoke to them @Zaalfruit. I hope it all helps. Sending lots of love.

Feeling very pregnant and uncomfortable at the mo. Sleep is hit and miss and I feel like I'm constantly trying to get comfortable. Getting a tiny bit of heartburn, but propping myself up helps. Backs pretty sore by the end of the day, and getting a bit of rib pain. Feeling like an old lady

Indigogirl88 · 27/05/2020 21:16

@Zaalfruit I'm so pleased you managed to speak to someone in the end and get a few things off your chest

@Spark27 same, I feel big, pregnant and I my nipples are sore tonight. I feel bloated even though I had a salad for dinner!
