@AnxiousLady1 I've really enjoyed my slow and steady shopping approach. And I feel pretty good that if baby was to arrive tomorrow (which I don't want at all!) They would have clothes, nappies, somewhere to sleep and somewhere to hang out. But at the same time I still feel like we've got a lot to do/buy yet. The "nursery" is still no where near empty, I'm going to have to bully DH into sorting out his computer crap that's in there. In fact I might just tell him that if he doesn't go through it today I'm just taking it all to the tip this week while he's away for work 😂

MOGMOGMOG85 · 04/07/2020 12:08

@Knotemma haha! Do all of us have spare rooms filled with OH's crap? Mine filled the spare room with just boxes when we moved here a year ago but since I became pregnant he has been actively buying MORE stuff to put in there, getting into the hobby of collecting NEW things (like vintage computer keyboards, we now have 25?!) and building himself little custom made bits of furniture to store his synthesisers and music equipment on. Its weird, like a kind of denial about what is happening! I'm letting him enjoy his little music den for now but the bigger I get the less patience I will have!

MOGMOGMOG85 · 04/07/2020 12:09

I wish we could afford somewhere with more space and a spare room but no we can't...

AnxiousLady1 · 04/07/2020 12:14

@Knotemma I'm looking forward to the shopping and will also try to do a steady approach. I've got a spreadsheet with all the things I need, and have been doing a lot of online "window shopping". So my plan for the moment is if I see any of the things I want on offer, to pick them up immediately. I know you mentioned the Skiphop bags on offer this week and I actually had my eye on one, so that could end up being my first purchase. I did read on another thread that there are concerns around a second wave of Covid coming in Autumn, and baby clothes/deliveries might be difficult to get if people panic buy again. So I will look at focusing on the essentials. Like you said, just in case baby decided to make an appearance sooner rather than later!

Knotemma · 04/07/2020 12:14

@MOGMOGMOG85 we effectively have 2 rooms filled with my husband's crap.... We have an office, with both of our computers, and all of his minatures (which take up way more space than you'd think) plus a computer he's actively rebuilding. Then the "nursery" which has 3 big boxes of computer parts that haven't been touched since we moved in. Admittedly my sewing machine is in there too 🤷‍♀️ I don't know how we ended up with so much stuff 😬

Knotemma · 04/07/2020 12:22

@AnxiousLady1 I feel like having the essentials has really helped me calm down. I was getting stressed about not being able to get small sized baby grows and stuff, so having those has really calmed me down. I've done a lot of internet window shopping and have a list ready to just chuck into my Amazon basket. I'm hoping that we can maintain this nice low level that were at and don't see a big spike in cases, but honestly I think we'll have to see how things go with the pubs and stuff opening up.

I'm not going to lie I'm seriously considering packing my hospital bag. I know it's really early, but when I was driving to get checked out on Monday night I realized that I didn't even have clean underwear with me if they wanted to keep me in for observations. Especially now that DH is going to be working away Sunday to Wednesday most weeks I feel like I need to be more organized, so I can just throw a bag in the car if needed 🙈🤷‍♀️

SammiLou2312 · 04/07/2020 12:57

My nursery is pretty much done. Just waiting on some bedding for the cot to be delivered (even though she will be in the moses basket for first few months). Got a few clothes for newborn now just trying to get stuff for after that sorted. Also need the weather to get nicer again so I can start washing and drying all her clothes as we don't have a tumble dryer... I was in a bit of a panic when all the lockdown stuff started as I didn't want to be left stuck with nothing so bought most stuff early to make sure I had at least the basics.
@Knotemma I started packing my hospital bags the other night...I don't know why but I have a feeling that she is going to take us by surprise with labour just like she did with her conception and turn up early so want to make sure I have stuff sorted. I guess it's kinda partially me wanting to feel a little more in control of the whole situation (so much of this pregnancy has left me feeling completely out of control and vulnerable) and the fact that she could be here any time in next 8-11 weeks kinda shook me up lol. I still feel totally unprepared even with all that haha

@TunnocksTcake just seen a thread about pregnancy and redundancy. It's only just been started but it might be of interest to you.

Morning everyone else. Hope the days are passing quickly with nothing to report. X

I stopped getting notifications again… so many posts in just a few days! Sorry if I miss anyones’ news…

@Littlegoth What an emotional week, I hope the consultant is happy with your wishes for a section. 10 weeks is so soon!

@avocuddles I realise you wrote about your family ages ago now, but just to say that I hope your mum can find a way to be supportive. I don’t see my parents that much but my son still adores them! He loves chatting to them on FaceTime, showing them all his toys. My mum even brings out a couple of dinosaurs and trains to play along and he loves it. She sends him little cards and he sits and looks through them talking about Nanny (he’s only 2.5)

@rachael321 Sorry to hear about you having gallstones, I really hope that they can be managed well and not affect your pregnancy too much. I don’t know anything about them but hope you’re getting lots of support.

@rachelrainbow Like a couple of others have said, I sadly haven’t found my anxiety to slow down at all! I’m now 26 weeks and seem to find things to be worried about. But I have found a way of living with it, so even if yours doesn’t abate, it doesn’t have to take over.

@knotemma @anxiouslady1 @mysterioussheep Congratulations on the scans, and beautiful photos. Hope the next scan clears up any questions Xx

@footprintsintheslow Gorgeous blanket. I knitted one for my son which ended up massive. I might try and make a smaller one for this one. I love the colours. I’m not a big fan of inspid colours for babies!!

@sunstruck, good news that everything is going well, there’s still quite a lot of time for baby to turn. I think someone else mentioned it, but the spinning babies website is really good for positions to get them to turn.

@tunnockstcake So sorry to hear about the redundancy. That is such rubbish timing. Definitely look into your rights as a pregnant person and make sure they don’t screw you over at all!! I hope you can still just enjoy your pregnancy and maternity leave before looking for something else (I realise it’s a big stress though. I’m freelance and all my work has dried up. I’ll be comparatively rich when my statutory maternity allowance kicks in!)

@shefliesonherownwings Really pleased you had a good chat about birth options and are getting what you want/need. Makes such a difference when you feel respected and listened to

@sammilou2312 Glad the testing is going ok. I had my GTT on Friday, but they only did the first part? Was pleased as meant I didn’t have to sit around for two hours. My last bloods took 6 weeks to get back to me, so not holding my breath unless something is badly wrong.

Enjoying all the shopping chat. I’ve got everything from my son, so bar a very small amount of new bits, we’re sorted I think. Just need to get it all out and organised. We don’t have a nursery set up. My son was in with us for over a year due to work on the house, so we won’t be in a rush this time either probably as it was quite nice. Then we’re going to put both kids in one room, so not much decorating probably.

tmc14 · 05/07/2020 12:50

Also updating my weeks... 26 and counting. Just one more week until the third trimester (I think? Never sure), and if I follow the consultant, she'll definitely be here in 14 weeks at the latest! Seems to be going so quickly. Although I have permanent heart burn, which I don't know if I can cope with for three more months :-D

Thanks @tmc14 just a case if wait and see really!

Have telephone appointment with anaesthetist this week, not sure what ti expect there!

Increasingly irritable, uncomfortable and mood swings at the moment! And a few episodes of braxton hicks. Topped off with trouble sleeping!!!
Bump update... 33+3...

Avocuddles · 05/07/2020 18:32

28 weeks and into the third trimester - wow! I have a growth scan tomorrow and consultant appointment to follow so guess we might soon have an idea of when we're likely to meet her...
Our nursery furniture is due to be deiivered this coming week so think this might be the point where it finally starts to sink in that a baby might be coming into our lives....
There's an arts week in our town at the moment so I've turned my hand to painting and made jungle and farm scenes which I've popped in the front window. They may also make an appearance in the baby's room - they do look somewhat like a 10 year old did them but hopefully that adds to the appeal 😆

@SammiLou2312 eek hospital bag packed is exciting! I've started collating some bits ready for it and think I'll get washing clothes and 'properly' pack at around 32 weeks. Like you say I hope the weather gets better so can actually air things properly, it's currently pouring with rain here...

@Knotemma no harm in being prepared early especially if your DH is away. I think my panic over getting hold of newborn sized clothes has probably resulted in me now having way more than I need!

@MOGMOGMOG85 re vitamin d supplements, I'm deficient and was on high dose prescription ones before I fell pregnant so now take a multivitamin along with a separate vit d. The solgar ones are good and tiny so worth looking at. Your Facebook marketplace purchases sound like a great bargain! I've got a couple of marketplace things recently including a gro egg, brand new mamas and papas sleep suit and a car mirror, have had to stop myself looking as there will be no space left in the house by the time little one arrives at this rate!

@Anon20something glad your hospital trip went ok and helped to reassure you.

@AnxiousLady1 congrats on the scan and your baby boy news! 💙

Thanks @footprintsintheslow!
Off for my 28 wk growth scan later this morning and feeling quite nervous.....

OP posts:
SunStruck · 06/07/2020 09:32

@Avocuddles snap! Good luck this morning ! 🥰 It's all good, they can survive outside us now... 95% of babies at 28 weeks my dr said! She was so reassuring, said for me to call them straight away if the movements change and that the baby can survive outside now so not to worry if they come early (obviously not ideal but I guess she knows I'm anxious in general after 2 losses). Makes it feel so much more real. Loving the bump pic, you look great!

@Rachael321how exciting, you should be the first one of all of us to have the baby! 🥰 loving the bump pic too. Are you planning an induction or just natural labor?

@tmc14 I was also confused about the weeks, some pages say 27 weeks and some 28 weeks? 🤷🏻‍♀️ congrats anyway, we have all come so far!

I have 7 newborn size onesies, is this enough you guys think? 😳 I don't want to buy too much but then again people say they go through a few a day sometimes due to poop and leaks! And vomit.

Avocuddles · 06/07/2020 10:10

@SunStruck I have about 7 white newborn onesies and a similar number of longer ones / things to go on top. If this isn't enough I'm sure they'll cope with some baggy 0-3 month clothes if required - also working on the theory that my husband will be at home for the first couple of weeks so can be in charge of non stop washing duties if needed!!!

Good luck for this morning, as you say the odds are very very much in our favour by now, interested to see what they have to say as it feels like a long time since the last appointment in person....

@tmc14 the 'official' line seems to be 28 weeks but that's based on a 42 week pregnancy which is probably unlikely for most of us! So I'd say 27 weeks is definitely 2/3 of the way there Smile

OP posts:
AnxiousLady1 · 06/07/2020 10:17

Good luck with the growth scan today @avocuddles! There are quite a few on this thread that have additional growth scans. Is that due to medical history, or is it simply down to the hospital trust you are with? I don't have another scan until 36+ weeks. I actually booked a private scan at 25 weeks, as my DH has not been able to attend the scans and I think it's important for him to see. It's his baby too!

@Sunstruck I am also curious as to what number of different sized onesies/vests people have bought. I made my first purchase on Saturday, as I understand getting newborn sizes can be difficult, and I didn't want to be left stuck. So I bought a pack of 5 sleepers and 7 vests in newborn size. I also got another 7 vests in 1 month size. And 2 cardigans (couldn't resist, they were too cute) in 1 month size. I am just perplexed as to what to aim for, as I appreciate they will grow out of things quickly, or need to be changed regularly as you say. Or people may buy things as gifts. So would like to know what everyone else has if they dont mind sharing numbers/ideas!

Have my first midwife face to face appointment on Friday so I'm looking forward to that. Glad I've got some little milestones to break the next few weeks up, as that 10 weeks between my scans was painful. Also, I think I may have felt a couple of actual little kicks yesterday while sat on the couch. I've been feeling more movement/flutters over the last week, and have been told I've an anterior placenta. But definitely felt what must have been a couple of kicks yesterday, as it actually caught me by surprise and was pretty distinct/different to other movement I'd felt. Still a bit early for me to work out any sort of pattern to be able to track anything though.

SunStruck · 06/07/2020 11:21

@AnxiousLady1 @Avocuddles excuse my ignorance but why do they need to wear vests? I have only bought those long sleepsuits in newborn size, I assumed they should be covered up completely? We live in AC though as we live abroad so maybe I'm just thinking in general for here. Or do they need vests if it's hotter? Maybe I need to buy some vests 🤣

Knotemma · 06/07/2020 11:25

@AnxiousLady1 I have growth scans due to my history of losses, I was referred to the consultant, but because there's no known reason and all three of my losses were in the first trimester she was happy for me to remain under the midwife and have the growth scans prett much as reasurance that everything is continuing as it should. I'm happy with the course of action and feel really lucky that she felt that growth scans were an important part of that, it's definitely helped me to have those extra milestone dates.

On the clothes front I've read 8 sleepers and 8 vests is a good number as long as your happy to wash every other day, so that's what I've gone with. I'm sure we'll end up with some extras and gifts thought 😂

Knotemma · 06/07/2020 11:31

@SunStruck the rule of thumb is that they should have one more layer on that you. So if you're comfortable in a t-shirt then they would have a vest and a sleeper/onsie. I've attached a little info thing I find handy

Pregnant After Loss and Dreaming of Rainbows - 4
AnxiousLady1 · 06/07/2020 12:10

Thanks @Knotemma. So essentially, as he will be a winter baby (due in Nov), it will be vest + onesie. Good to know.

The 8 + 8 numbers are what I have seen also. While I currently wash every second day, I wonder if that is ambitious in the first couple of weeks after labour...Also - did you get a variance on sizing, or go for all newborn? Obviously I've no idea at this stage if he could end up being a little chunker and not fitting into newborn sizing for long, haha.

Thanks for clarifying on the additional scans. It's what I had thought. I guess I should only take it as a positive at this stage that they aren't offering them to me. Measurements so far seem to all be bang in the middle, so average. I know I'll probably end up getting another private scan after the 25 week one just to break things up though. Little milestones as you say.

@AnxiousLady1 I've gone for 8 in a mix of newborn/up to 1 month and then 8 in 0-3 as a starting point. I'm doing cloth nappies so will have to be doing laundry every other day anyway, though I'm sure DH will be able to handle that for the first few weeks!

Eep I was aiming for 20 sleep suits, vests etc - I'm def being overanxious about it! I have 5 little 0-1 month suits atm and 11 0-6 which are a few inches bigger.

I'm joining the bump pics here although I STILL don't feel like my bump is "proper". I'm having this really weird schizophrenic relationship to it where I wake up every morning and think to myself "I don't look pregnant at all, something must be wrong" and go to bed every evening thinking "my stomach is MASSIVE, maybe the baby is too big?!", basically worrying about every possible thing :'( I know I need to stop with the negative thinking.

I had a bit of a wake up call today, one of my friends is going through her third miscarriage, and although they were all in a row, they have been spread out over different decades and relationships. She has only been in her current relationship a year and this missed miscarriage has put a lot of strain on them. She is now my age (35) and I think her boyfriend is getting cold feet and saying he wants to wait a year before trying again. It made me realise how many of my friends are in situations where they want children, but are blocked by a relationship that is not yet established enough, or by a boyfriend that is playing around and not deciding what he wants. It made me realise basically how lucky I am to have such a loving, stable relationship of 8 years and a man who is devoted to me and me to him, AND on top of that he wants the same things as me. Its making me think I should stop complaining and worrying about everything, since I am so lucky, to be with him, to be pregnant, and with no signs so far that there would be anything wrong with this pregnancy (apart from my risk of a small baby, which is definitely weighing over me as I get closer to my 20 week scan)...

Anyway, here is the bump as it is so far at 18 weeks. I think it def qualifies as a bump now? Not sure why I'm doubting it so much!

@AnxiousLady1 so lovely to hear you're feeling kicks now! That must be a relief, and its good you're telling yourself not to get too worried about counting just yet as its so early. That's an admirably healthy way to think about it! I have to admit I'm already freaking out that I haven't felt anything. I feel a funny sensation occasionally but really have no idea if its my bowels (which do cause me mild pain and discomfort regularly) or brief ligament stretches, or baby. I have to say I'm erring on the side of not baby yet. I also have an anterior placenta although I'm crossing my fingers it might have moved over a bit by my next scan as I know that can happen! Am I being too ambitious expecting to feel much at 18 weeks? I'm at that horrible stage now where I haven't seen a midwife for 10 weeks, haven't had a scan for 5, I can't deny that my belly is growing but I haven't felt anything, and yet I know as soon as I do feel something it will give me the next thing to worry about! xxx
