Being made redundant at six months pregnant...tell me your positive stories?

As per the title, I’m lying in bed awake because I’m being made redundant at six months pregnant, and obviously incredibly stressed and angry about the situation.

Does anyone have any positive stories about being made redundant and it changing their life for the better?

I didn’t love my job, it was stressful and not the right culture for me. The commute was a nightmare. But it’s always nice getting paid on a monthly basis!

I’m fairly senior so have a good notice period, but not been there for long enough to get redundancy pay. I also qualify for stat mat pay still. I’m terrified about not getting another job after mat leave though.

Hi OP. I was in a slightly different situation - when I got pregnant I was on a temporary contract so had no job to go back to. I didn't qualify for mat pay either.

DS is now 14 months old and I'm going back to work in September.

It's been wonderful for me to have all this time with him, and for the most part, not counting down how many months I had before I returned to work.

It sounds like you're in a better position financially so I'm sure you will be fine. In terms of getting a job, it's not like you need one straight away so you can hold out until the perfect one for you comes up.

Life has a great way of working itself out. I was so stressed to begin with but now I'm thrilled it happened the way it did.

Good luck!

Thanks @sarge89. I like the ‘life has a great way of working out’ school of thought. I need that as a mantra.

Bumping hoping more people have had positive outcomes.

I was made redundant when I was four months pregnant. I was the major breadwinner and it felt like an absolute disaster at the time but honestly it was the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s amazing how cheaply you can live if you don’t have to work for a start - no commuting costs, lunches, smart clothes. I would never have considered giving up that job to be a SAHM for all sorts of reasons, but having that situation forced on me just changed everything.
