@MOGMOGMOG85 I've got a high anterior placenta, didn't find out until my anatomy scan at 19 weeks, but I still feel plenty of movement. This is the furthest I've ever got with a pregnancy, so wasn't expecting to feel movements until a bit later anyway, but by 20 weeks I was feeling kicks and now I'm feeling movement all the time. I think babies position is just as important as placenta placement. The goblin likes to lie transverse, with its feet at my right side, so kicks the side of my uterus, not the front if that makes sense. I've seen loads of ladies on other boards say the same, it often just means that you miss the very first flutters! DH has felt movement on the outside for as long as I've felt kicks too, and I can now see my belly move when the kicks really get going.

Knotemma · 03/06/2020 07:47

Can't quite believe that I've made it to 24 weeks and viability. That's a massive milestone for me, and they weeks just seem to be flying by!

Yay @Knotemma 24 weeks is a big milestone! Updating my weeks too, the past few weeks seem to have gone pretty fast. Feeling good at the minute.
Glad you had a good scan @MOGMOGMOG85 even with the other issues - seems odd you are measuring early but they say it may be a small baby? Good news you got NIPT straight away, at least you didnt have to wait. Hoping you get positive results.

We went for a private scan today just to check everything was ok, I couldn't wait until 20 weeks at the end of the month. Thankfully everything looks good, baby was wriggling around and heartbeat sounded good. We also found out we are having a boy. To be honest I wasn't bothered about finding out but DH wanted to know and it is doubtful he will be able to come in for the 20 week one so we found out today. Isla will hopefully be having a little brother if all goes well.

Updated my weeks too:

@shefliesonherownwings lovely news that you managed to have a private scan with DH, congratulations on your little boy

MOGMOGMOG85 · 03/06/2020 15:56

Thanks @knotemma and @Treaclepie19 - thats reassuring that I will be able to feel something! I can look forward to it now!

@Whiffle77 Ikr about the big baby/small baby thing! I think they weren't saying the baby IS small but that something in my blood test indicated that I was at risk of having a small baby? The midwife explained that it is linked to the risk of pre-eclampsia, both come from problems with blood flow through the placenta which can lead to small baby and pre-eclampsia (where to force blood to the baby your body ups your blood pressure to dangerous levels). However they did look at the blood flow through the placenta during the scan (they could listen to it pumping through!!) and that was fine, so it's another theoretical risk. Anyway my aspirin should knock that on the head as I think it thins the blood and improves blood flow through the placenta... I'm actually really proud of myself for memorising all this information and the tonne more they gave me!!

AnxiousLady1 · 03/06/2020 16:11

@shefliesonherownwings Fabulous news on your scan and congratualtions on your little boy! I've another 4 weeks to go until my scan at near 22weeks, but hoping I can hear a heartbeat at my appointment Friday. That will hopefully tide me over.

@MOGMOGMOG85 Great to hear you had a good scan! I was thinking of you the last couple days as I knew you were due to have one. Has your IBS issues eased up a bit??

I'm now on high alert to see if I can feel any flutters. I'm 17+3 so I know it's still early. No idea where placenta is placed as I wasn't told at my 12 week scan. I've had 3 different instances over last couple days where I thought I've felt something (twice when I rolled over in bed). Each time has been on the left side. Not sure if I'm just desperate to find something and mistaking some internal muscle spasm/vibration or digestion with actual baby flutters 😂😂

Whiffle77 · 03/06/2020 19:23

Ahhh lovely news @Shefliesonherownwings really pleased for you! I think we are probably going to get another private one around 16 weeks if poss, for my husband to go. He has only seen an 8 week scan so never seen one that looks like a baby!
@MOGMOGMOG85 ah ok I see what you mean, yes you've done well to remember it all! It's hard as you get so little time to talk to anyone, it's hard to take it all in and then you just end up googling it all and making yourself feel terrible! Have they said where your fibroids are? Mine is blocking my cervix so likely means a c section, they will wait and see though.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 03/06/2020 19:43

@Shefliesonherownwings sorry I didn't say congratulations! I'm glad it was a really positive one and that you could both be there. No shame in having reassurance scans especially given your past experience xxx

@AnxiousLady1 my stomach is a lot better thank you - took about 2 weeks to resolve in the end and I think I still need to pay close attention to my diet to keep things happy down there! Lots of fruit, watered down fruit juice, and salads, which is actually what I'm craving so win win! On your other comments from what I've seen practically every lady seems to describe those vibration/spasm/flutters that they don't quite know if they're making it up or if it's baby! I bet it is your little one and it'll get strong enough to be definite over the coming weeks :) from others comments on here it soudns like if your placenta is anterior or slighly anterior it can just delay those feelings a little but sounds like yo'ull eb feeling something soon!

@Whiffle77 ah I alwasy forget I met you at first on a fibroid thread! Isn't it crazy that we're now just a couple of days apart (I was moved forward again at 12 week scan)! I have 3, 1 about 7cm pedunculated outside the womb (which freaks me out the idea of it floating around out there entangling with things but is apparently fine), one about 5cm on the right and the biggie around 8cm on the left, both of these intramural. I also have a load of smaller ones but none interrupting my womb or on cervix as far as I know. I was told prior to pregnancy that they shouldn't be an issue but I will be monitored becuase of course the not-so-little buggers can change! I meet with the gyno next week. I've had a friend irl who had one covering cervix that moved before her last scan so you never know. How do you feel about c-section? My take on it is I'm happy to do whatever is safest for me and if that is planned c-section I'll take it. Easy for me to say when that's not the option I'm facing though. I guess different women feel differently about c-sections and it probably depends upon which risks you're weighing up xxx have you heard of degeneration and has anyone mentioned it to you? I was told by a previous sonographer that it was likely and that it is very painful so I'm a little on edge about it. Mine seem to have grown during the preganncy but only by a few cm so far so I'm hoping I'll avoid the horror stories that I've seen on a couple of threads on here where they go from 5-15cm in as many weeks.... touch wood!

MOGMOGMOG85 · 03/06/2020 20:17

What are everyones thoughts on low alcohol drinks? I just went to my local shop to check out their selection and its only a small shop so they had no alcohol cider or low alcohol wine. I took the cider becuase I wasn't sure about drinking wine with 0.5% but I'd prefer the wine! That seems like such a small amount of alcohol and I am in the second trimester now so do you think I'd be ok to buy the wine next time and have a glass or 2?

I pretty much never drink when not pregnant don't know why I've been so obsessed with alcohol since I can't have it Grin

Whiffle77 · 03/06/2020 20:53

I'm not sure if that was me on the thread @mogmogmog85! They found mine at my 8 week scan with this pregnancy, despite lots of scans before it hadn't been found so I think it may be new! I dont know much about them but have a consultant appointment after my 20 week scan so will see what happens then. Mine hadn't grown from 8 weeks to 12 weeks, I do keep getting a jabbing pain low down and wonder if it's that.
I feel mixed about a potential c section. On one hand I know exactly when baby will arrive so easier to plan, and no anxiety about how the birth will be. Plus it should be more relaxed, and less pain at the time. On the other hand I would quite like to give birth "normally" in an airy fairy sort of thought process, and c section is obviously a major operation. At the end of the day I just want baby out safely, that's all that matters so I will see how the next few months go! My anxiety would probably cope better with planned c section!
0.5% to me is non alcoholic, you would have to drink a vat of the stuff to have any impact. Plus there are a lot of studies that say a small amount of alcohol is ok, although NHS still says none. I would drink it. I am not a doctor or a scientist of course though

Knotemma · 03/06/2020 20:58

@MOGMOGMOG85 I've gone down the mocktail route, that way I know exactly what's in it, been buying elderflower cordial to make "mojitos" with mint and lime 😂 I don't drink cider, lager or wine normally (I'm a spirit drinker... Me wine drunk is not pretty 🙈) but I think I'd feel more comfortable with 0% personally. But I think if your having a glass or two of very low alcohol wine once in a while you're probably safe. It would be a different story if you were drinking a couple of bottles a day 😂. I will warn you though, I've heard that it's difficult to find any that taste like wine. My SIL is teatotal for health reasons and she's searched for about 5 years for a decent alcohol free prosecco

Avocuddles · 03/06/2020 20:59

@Shefliesonherownwings congratulations on the scan, so glad all went well and you both got to see your little boy.

@Knotemma congrats on reaching 24 weeks! Only 4 days to go until I get there - it's DHs birthday then so double celebrations are in order....

@AnxiousLady1 I don't have an anterior placenta and my flutters started around 18 weeks, getting stronger from 20 weeks onwards. I imagine what you're feeling are definitely movements - I reached the conclusion that if a fart followed it was digestion but if it didn't it was probably baby! I still haven't 'seen' any from the outside which is the next thing I'm looking forward to - I frequently grab DH's hand and pop it on my tummy but he's not clearly felt anything yet.

@MOGMOGMOG85 glad your scan went ok and hope you don't have to wait too long for the harmony results. Re drinks, you're definitely ok with any of the 0.5% alcohol drinks, there's the same (or more) alcohol in a fresh fruit juice or smoothie and the levels of alcohol are so low that you'd need to drink more than 5 bottles of the stuff to come close to the alcohol content of a single small glass of 'real' wine! I share a bottle with my DH most weeks just to make it feel a bit special (we were big wine fans pre pregnancy). Some of the wines are sickly sweet and not that pleasant but I'd recommend the Freixenet 0% for fizz, any of the Natureo range and the Rawsons Retreat red. In terms of beers there are quite a few nice options depending on taste, Brewdog Punk AF is a decent one. I also like some of the alcohol free 'gin' - Tesco premixed cans are good and 'Not Gin' is nice for Hendricks fans....

Avocuddles · 03/06/2020 21:05

@Whiffle77 speaking to medic friends they say the main reason why the NHS changed the advice to no alcohol is that the general population aren't necessarily great at following guidance that isn't 100% black or white (just look at the state of lockdown now...!) and they themselves (or their partners) had no qualms with having a small glass of 'real' wine or beer during pregnancy. The book 'Expecting Better' is a good read in terms of setting out all of the research around lots of topics including alcohol and caffeine consumption in pregnancy.

OP posts:
Whiffle77 · 03/06/2020 21:53

Yes I read similar @Avocuddles - plus everyone has a different idea on what a small amount of alcohol is! We are big wine drinkers too so I have found it quite hard, far more so because of lockdown too. I will look out the red and the gin you recommend! I've not had any real alcohol yet, primarily because I think it will just remind me even more how much I love it, and make it worse! I will look into that book - I'm a coffee fiend too but went off the taste at 6 weeks and haven't got it back yet which is so weird! I've found nosecco to be drinkable, and alcohol free peroni. Missing that glass of red though!

MysteriousSheep · 04/06/2020 08:39

I love coffee and normally drink way too much, both at home and work. When I was pregnant with my son, 12yrs ago, I cut out everything including all caffeine, but this time I have a nice strong coffee from my machine in the morning, then I drink decaf if I want more during the day. Lavazza decaf coffee tastes just the same as the real thing. Thought I would’ve gone off coffee taste as so many people do, but nope!
Not a big drinker anyway, so not bothered finding alcohol free stuff. Pretty sure a Small glass of wIne or beer every now and then is fine though.

@MOGMOGMOG85 congratulations on positive scan, sounds good and like they gave you lots of information! Think that you are right not to be worried about the ‘moderate’ Down’s syndrome risk, especially if the nuchal was normal and it’s based on bloods and/or age. The blood test that came back low sounds like PAPP-A, low PAPP-A increases risk of small baby and preeclampsia, but just means you get extra monitoring (growth scans) and sometimes aspirin depending on your circumstances. As I’m sure they told you, from the sounds of it!

@Shefliesonherownwings lovely news that you saw your little baby boy on scan and that your husband could be there too.

Thank you all so much. In all honesty, I had a difficult day after the scan yesterday, I think finding out the sex made it more real and made the loss of our girl more tangible that it has been for a while so it was an emotional day.

I also actually ended up have some vivid dreams last night about this baby being born and being in the hosptial with him, texting friends about the birth etc... It seemed to vividly real and it is the first time I have felt (albeit in dreamland) that this could happen and we might bring this baby home. I woke up a little hopeful this morning.

In terms of drinks, I have so far had a couple of half glasses of champagne this pregnancy, as I did last time and I don't think it's a big deal. Similarly, I think low alcohol is totally fine, in fact if anyone can recommend a low or no alchol gin please let me know! I do quite enjoy Becks Blue but that's about it. I also tried so hard to give up caffeine, in the wake of losing Isla, I drank far too much of it. I don't have it every day during this pregnancy but I do have coffee and a diet coke here and there. Again, I think most things is moderation is fine.

Avocuddles · 04/06/2020 12:10

@Shefliesonherownwings the one called 'Not Gin' isn't bad, I got it from Ocado and if you have it with a decent tonic it does the job well! Cedars isn't bad either. I haven't completely cut out caffeine but try to replace the majority of drinks with decaf tea (has to be Yorkshire) or decaf Diet Coke as I was a bit of a caffeine junkie previously! I treated myself to a decaf Starbucks the other day and it was amazing, couldn't tell the difference so it might have to become a weekly thing....

Glad you had a positive dream after an emotionally challenging day. I think it's perfectly natural to flip between positive and anxious or sad thoughts at the moment and am pretty sure it's going to remain that way for most of us for the duration! I'm feeling a lot of movements so feeling quite upbeat but I still really struggle to believe that we might be bringing our baby home in not much more than 3 months time....

@Whiffle77 I'm really missing wine too, I envy those women who say that they just don't fancy it when they're pregnant, I'm really looking forward to a good glass of something really nice!

Updating my weeks and thought I'd share a bump pic update... Can't believe I'm at 25 weeks today! Managed to catch a kick on video the other night. There is no stopping her now. She is dancing all night lol! Not great for my sleep pattern but at least puts my anxiety at bay a little knowing she is doing ok in there 🥰

SammiLou2312 · 04/06/2020 15:26

@whiffle77 thank you! I certainly seem to have rounded out over the last week. Think she has moved up a lot more so bump isn't laying as low anymore x

I have a hospital check up this afternoon and I'm going to ask them to just check the heartbeat. I feel super nervous all over again at this prospect. I know I've no reason to think something has gone wrong, but the fear is always there.
