@Whiffle77 I found an NHS list that I have used as my starting point. Like you, I haven't started to buy anything, but I love a spreadsheet so I put the list together and am using that as my jumping off point for research. The list covers all the essentials you need to have ready before the baby comes. For example, how many sleepsuits, layers etc and the preferable material for these to be in. It gives guidelines around what to look for when buying a car seat and cot with links to UK sites that give a bit of background. In my list I've kept it mainly to things I know I will need for a newborn, and have omitted things I can buy a little later/that aren't used for first couple of months- like a high chair. I found this was the easiest way for me to compartmentalise. Otherwise my shopping will get out of control, and we definitely don't have all the space currently for all the things we could be buying now!! 😂

MummyMilla · 01/06/2020 11:32

@footprintsintheslow @Hagster @AnxiousLady1 @Whiffle77 @SunStruck thank you all for kind words. I had a call with an obs/gynae consultant friend this am (who specialises in fertility, usefully!). He said that as I've had two healthy pregnancies before and it's been relatively easy to get pg, I ought to just try again. I'm 39 and from the age of 40, 50% of pg will end in MC simply due to there being a higher rate of abnormalities. And if I don't want to go down the IVF route (which we've already decided) then it's just a case of carrying on until one sticks or we've had a enough.

I'm feeling OK this am. Been for a run (something I started after the last MC) and so I will just keep on taking my super new multivits and hope for the best. The also mentioned that the bleeding hadn't been too heavy (already tapering off and only started on Friday night) and so he said there's still a chance I might be pregnant! I don't think so but obvs need to test in a bit to double check before I hit the wine!

Thanks all for lovely supportive words, really really appreciate it xxx

Avocuddles · 01/06/2020 11:51

@MummyMilla glad you're feeling a little more positive. I had two miscarriages before this pregnancy (no previous births and am also in the 35+ bracket) and there are a few others of us here in the 'third time lucky' boat so don't lose hope that the next time round things will be different. Keep us posted as to how you're doing and look after yourself.

@Whiffle77 I've been making lots of lists - baby stuff (newborn and longer term), hospital bag requirements for me and for little one..... I looked at a few on Pinterest and took ideas from there though some are ridiculously over the top / very 'American'. Most of the baby / parenting websites have lists too, along with the NHS website that has already been mentioned I think the Emma's Diary one was pretty good in terms of being concise.
After this morning's hospital trip things are beginning to feel more real - it was the first time I'd been in the department where I'll give birth as all previously appointments have been on the antenatal unit rather than maternity. Might even be time to start ordering nursery furniture soon!

@SunStruck I've been taking similar measurements and my bump hasn't got bigger round the largest part for several weeks either, but I do think that it has got 'rounder', especially higher up, to the extent that it's basically turned into a boob shelf! still barely any weight gain for me either, only 2-3 pounds vs pre pregnancy and about 6 pounds compared to the end of the first trimester when I'd lost weight as a result of the virus. Expect we can both look forward to ballooning in the third trimester! @Whiffle77 I'm pretty sure I've lost some wine weight too....

@Knotemma glad the omeprazole is working for you, hopefully it'll do the trick for me and DH won't have to endure any more diet coke vomit across the bedroom carpet!

@Anon20something gorgeous bump and congrats on the house move! Hope it's not been too stressful and you can put your feet up a little now.....

Brill, thanks both I will check those out! I love a list so I'm looking forward to it!
Glad you are feeling a little better today @MummyMilla

MrsG3 · 01/06/2020 12:31

@MummyMilla so sorry to hear your news, I'd missed your post as hadn't read back on the thread. I have a DD and DS which were straightforward pregnancies and no issues. Then last September at 12 week scan we found out we'd had a mmc and then in December we had an early loss at around 6 weeks. I turn 37 soon so we were at the point of deciding whether to carry on when in February I found out I was pregnant and I'm now 16 weeks. I was given the same advice as you to keep trying after my second mc. I'm glad you're doing ok, I know how incredibly hard it is, but just wanted to send my love and let you know there's hope xx

Knotemma · 01/06/2020 12:32

@Avocuddles I will say that Coke is the worst thing I can drink heartburn and reflux wise it absolutely kills me! No clue why, I can have other pop (this week I'm slowly working my way through a bottle of dandelion and burdock) but I can't do Coke. That's not a pregnancy thing for me, I had to switch all my mixers to tonic or lemonade probably 8-10 years ago!

I'm definitely in list/planning mode, but I'm also looking to see if we can possibly get a little week away in July when things reopen, still torn between a nice luxury lodge or keeping it cheap and taking the tent ... So my planning brain has definitely gone off on a tangent with that!

SunStruck · 01/06/2020 12:44

@Avocuddles @AnxiousLady1 thanks ladies for your replies! Yes I think we can expect to explode in 3rd trimester 🤣 is also think he's quite far back because I didn't really feel anything until 20-21 weeks which is fairly late comparing to other ladies on this thread!

Lovely bump @Anon20something!

@MummyMilla I also had 2 losses and 0 live births before my current pregnancy, hang in there. I really recommend to take ubiquinol for egg quality, I think it did it for me! It is quite expensive but worth it I think. I'm also a bit older at 36 so I figured it might be my egg quality.

@Whiffle77 I think the same hahaha! I have to admit it's been lovely to be less strict during the weeks and I have chocolate or cake everyday 🤣 before I got pregnant I'd have it on the weekends but my reasoning now is that I'm saving so many wine calories so I deserve cake or chocolate if I feel like it 🤣 I'm baking lots at home and have carrot cake as well as chocolate cake in the fridge to go with a cuppa every afternoon... 🐷

Avocuddles · 01/06/2020 13:47

@MummyMilla like @SunStruck I also took ubiquinol when conceiving my second and current pregnancies. I'd only been taking it for a couple of weeks when I fell pregnant the second time so probably not long enough to have any impact (it takes a few months), but between that loss and the current pregnancy we took a few months out from TTC so had sufficient time to possibly have been of use. The book 'Miscarriage - What every woman needs to know' is a good, balanced read which might be of interest too.

@Knotemma when the heartburn strikes I find coke helpful as it's the one that's guaranteed to make me burp and therefore relieve the pain!
Have collected my omiprazole prescription now, will take one tomorrow and for a few days after and see what happens. Hopefully shouldn't need to take it constantly but we'll see.....
I would love a week away in July but trying not to get hopes up.... Our tent is a small basic job so not sure that would be a great 3rd trimester option but glamping certainly sounds appealing!

OP posts:
Knotemma · 01/06/2020 14:17

@Avocuddles we've got quite a big tent, I'm just worried about getting up and down off the floor 😂 if we do go for the camping option I'll borrow the camping toilet from my parents though... Can cope with having to run to the loo in the dark at 31 weeks😂. I'm split between doing the wait and see approach to everything reopening but then I'm worried that it will be so busy well struggle to get booked... I've spotted a few reasonably affordable places on hoseasons too, probably just need to have a chat with DH about the whole thing.

On the omeprezol front I wouldn't worry about taking them every day, there are no known issues with it in pregnancy and it's a well studied drug. Stuff like that also tends to work best when taken regularly, because of the nature of it

Whiffle77 · 01/06/2020 18:27

I'm also really keen to try and get a holiday in before baby is born - preferably two!! But so difficult to know what will happen, and everyone will have the same ide!! We haven't booked anything yet - also torn between wait and see (and miss out) or book now (and lose money!). We usually love camping but I couldn't see how I would get a decent nights sleep once I was bigger - what would you take with you for sleeping @Knotemma?

Knotemma · 01/06/2020 21:34

@Whiffle77 we have a sleeping mat, that's my biggest concern about camping honestly, getting up and down off the floor 😂 but we'll probably only be an hour away from home. I've got a double seat/couch that I could probably crash in if needs be

Whiffle77 · 02/06/2020 08:48

Yeah I have a sleeping mat normally but not sure it would cut the mustard once I was bigger! I guess if you take loads of pillows as well it will help. Plus camp close to the loos 😂

Knotemma · 02/06/2020 09:31

@Whiffle77 definitely on the camping close to the loos front! The site we will probably go to is quite small anyway, so nothing is too far away. I might take the airbed as well as the sleeping mat, but DH hates it, he has a tendency to injure himself on an airbed... No idea how 😂

Shefliesonherownwings · 02/06/2020 11:24

Hi all, we have been looking at a break away too and possibly camping. PIL are avid campers and have loads of equipment we can borrow. I do wonder if toilets and showers will actually open though, so we are looking st investigating in a chemical loo. My days of peeing in a bush are over!

Knotemma · 02/06/2020 11:58

@shefliesonherownwings I don't think they'll legally be able to open without providing those facilities. Most places I've looked at/follow on Instagram are talking about one in one out style policies for bathrooms and stuff, limiting the number of open stalls etc, the same way that other public buildings will

AnxiousLady1 · 02/06/2020 12:07

My camping days were behind me prior to pregnancy. I can't imagine doing it now! That said, I love the cosiness of staying in campervans etc. It's just a tent and sleeping on the ground I don't think I could cope with. I hadn't even thought about getting in a break away before the baby comes, but that does sound like a good idea. DH and I had what can only be described as the holiday of a lifetime late last year, so if I do manage to get anywhere I think my focus will be trying to get back to Ireland for a few days to see my family. Haven't seen them since Xmas and it would be difficult if I don't manage see them before the baby.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 02/06/2020 18:36

Successful scan today! measuring ahead again at 13w3d which means i ov'd on day 6 and didn't have sex until day 12 hmmm. however the sonographer didn't seem concerned - I think it probably means I just implanted early?

The scan was perfect but my blood brought back risk of downs, pre-eclampsia and small baby. However after having the downs risk explained I am not worried. It was 1 in 400 where 1 in 500 would be a low risk and 1 in 100 a high risk. i was given free harmony blood test because of research being done at the hospital so i will find out in a couple of weeks (or a bit more cos of the situation in america). The small baby/pre-eclampsia risk was more concerning but she explained to me that if I just take aspirin from now until week 36 that would take me back down to a low risk, so fingers crossed that is all ok. They will also be monitoring me.

And my fibroids don't seem to have grown much, yay!

God I'm exhausted - it took 3 hours in the hospital - first clinic was running an hour behind, then my baby refused to get into a good pisition, then I needed to have a load of info explaiend to me, sign a load of forms, get the bloods done and then go to the pharmacy so it was all very long. My poor boyfriend was waiting in the car and out of his mind with worry! Was so amazing to see little baby's brain, heart, arms, legs, nose etc though!

Thrilled but knackered...

xxx

footprintsintheslow · 02/06/2020 19:15

@MOGMOGMOG85 you poor thing that's a lot to take in in one go. Great you get a free harmony test? Do the results get sent abroad then?

SammiLou2312 · 02/06/2020 20:39

@MOGMOGMOG85 so happy for your positive scan ☺️
I am also deemed high risk for eclampsia and have been taking aspirin since 12 weeks. They will just monitor you more xx

Knotemma · 02/06/2020 21:13

@MOGMOGMOG85 so pleased you had a positive scan, even though there was obviously a lot to take in, it all sounds like it was overall positive. Most things sound like they're things that can be monitored/have some meds. Good news that they're sorting the harmony test for you for a but more clarity around the trisomy risk

I’m 25 weeks now and, after three losses, mostly still can’t believe it’s actually happening for us! 🌈

@Shefliesonherownwings thank you - yeah what a win with a free harmony test! It has to go to the USA yeah... my hospital is doing research apparently which is why they are offering the test at all and in particular they are offering it to moderate risk ladies like myself who they wouldn't usually recommend any testing to. Hopefully my DNA will help them build understanding of Trisomy risk quicker and one day (she said not for another 30 years but still) the Harmony test will be just as accurate as the invasive test and they won't need to do that for any ladies any more.

@SammiLou2312 thank you! After having a day to think about it I'm thinking they probably stick quite a lot of us on aspirin, just simply because it has no ill effects and it can help if you have any raised risk at all. Pre-eclampsia is obviously awful so hopefully that means I'll be avoiding it :)

@Knotemma thank you!!! Yes definitely positive overall. I'm not feeling anxious about what I was told, it seems like I'll be monitored and I don't feel there is a chance of downs really as the NT was good etc and a 1 in 400 risk is so low. However I'll find out in a couple of weeks. The good news was my risk of Pataus and Edwards was super super low, way below average so those 2 are out the picture, phew!

I forgot to say I had anterior placenta too :( gutted that this means I won't feel much :( however I've been told it can move. Did anyone else get an anterior placenta showing at the 12w scan and then it move?

xxx
