@CoBell all good here thank you, glad you haven't had any more bleeding xx

Jaffas22 · 27/05/2020 14:08

Just had my 16 week appointment via telephone with the midwife ... everytime I speak to her I come away so annoyed.. I feel she is so rude, the way she asks questions is more just to tick boxes on a form than actual interest of how I am and how I am feeling ... really don’t feel supported at all and certainly don’t feel like I can open up and tell her what’s on my mind.. I totally get the nhs is under pressure, I work there myself but a bit of compassion goes a long way.. has anybody else had experience of a not particularly pleasant midwife? 😟

Hancock2020 · 27/05/2020 14:14

@Jaffas22 yeah, mine doesnt really seem to be bothered either, takes days to get any response and then it's not really like she cares

SqidgeBum · 27/05/2020 14:31

Ye mine didnt seem bothered at my 12 week appointment call. I went on to bleed, she just told me to ring the gp and I havebt heard from her since. I have an appointment in the GP today with a midwife. No idea if it's the same midwife as before. I am going in today hoping to be open if they ask how I am (I am struggling a bit. Had post natal psychosis on DC1) but I am trying to prepare myself for the midwife to not care. They seem to just want to tick the medical boxes, which I get to an extent, but as a teacher I wonder how happy people would be if I took the same attitude in my job when dealing with emotional students.

My last midwife on DC1 was amazing. Couldn't fault her. I feel bad for anyone on their first child with the way pre and post natal services seem right now.

Pink15 · 27/05/2020 14:37

My midwife at the hospital seemed lovely (different time the person doing the scan) but she told me unfortunately most of the appointments will be with someone else as you get a community midwife.

Pinktruffle · 27/05/2020 15:42

@Squidgebum I'm a first time mum and find it quite hard to be honest. My midwife was lovely and friendly on my booking on call and told me to call or text her if I had any question -no query was too small but every time I've tried to get in touch with, including when I had bleeding, I got no response. Only my IVF clinic which is technically closed and I have been discharged from were willing to speak to me and I had to fight to get a scan the EPU.

It's honestly left me feeling that no one really cares. I was quite surprised to hear people here have been offered scans for little bits of bleeding cos they didn't want to see me at all, A&E even sent me home without even checking a thing.

Hopefully the rest of my pregnancy goes fairly smoothly because if things go wrong, I don't think anyone will give a toss.

Iona1985 · 27/05/2020 15:53

Hi everyone! Due end of November with my first. Had my first scan today and baby doing fine, shame my partner couldn’t be there but they let me do a video and haven me extra photos, which I thought was really kind. Hope you guys have had the same treatment!

Addler · 27/05/2020 16:40

I've had a really saliva-y mouth all day. Every time I eat something I can feel my mouth flood with saliva and a bit of a weird taste. I'm assuming it's just another weird pregnancy thing, and at least it's better than the horrible dry mouth of the previous weeks!

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/05/2020 16:54

Just jumping back in! Didn’t mean to lose track of this thread, and now we need a new one!

Sorry others aren’t feeling supported by midwives, mine’s been really responsive (though I haven’t needed much) and all been lovely when I’ve spoken. Had 16 week appointment today and heard the heartbeat! So exciting. Met with the specialist mental health midwife to just check in as I’m high risk, though I’m hopeful all will be well, and made a plan for regular check up and DH coming to meet with her too nearer the birth

Does everyone have one assigned midwife? At my hospital you’re just assigned to a team so in my last pregnancy I didn’t see anyone more than once. It was very impersonal! I’ll be 18 weeks by the time of my 16 week appointment and not sure what the point of it will be tbh.

On the plus side I can really feel the baby move now! I’m 16+5. Anyone else?

Fouryearslater · 27/05/2020 17:53

@harrietm87 same here. On the run up I tend to see the same midwife as she does clinic at my GP surgery, but in hospital and the post partum visits are done by whoever is ‘on’. I did mostly see the same couple, but did have one awful one (who said no wonder the baby wasn’t putting weight on as the house was freezing, nothing constructive!).

Pink15 · 27/05/2020 18:05

I've not felt baby move yet and I'm 15 weeks but as it's my first I reckon I probably won't for a good few weeks yet! Bump is making good progress though

eleanorsos · 27/05/2020 18:24

Gosh I think I've missed most of this thread! 😂 I keep thinking I can feel baby move but think maybe I'm just hallucinating it - it's my first and not even 16 weeks yet. How do you know?!

Sorry to hear people's midwives haven't been great. I've got 16 week phone appointment next week but they were lovely at the booking one so fingers crossed...

HarrietM87 · 27/05/2020 18:29

@Pink15 and @eleanorsos I felt it at 18 weeks with my first - was a definite kick! I think it’s normal not to feel it for the first time until 20 weeks plus. I’d probs felt it before but hadn’t realised, but this time round I know what to look out for. It’s like gentle popping feelings when I’m lying down. Will be so nice when they’re more obvious and regular!

wannabebump · 27/05/2020 18:32

Getting close to the end of this thread so here's a new one (didn't see one already when I searched so hope this is ok!).

wannabebump · 27/05/2020 18:33

Link to the new one would help 😂

@HarrietM87 That's reassuring thanks - they were very wriggly at 12 week scan so sure they'll be at it before long 😁 must be reassuring for you to feel them properly x

@wannabebump thanks for the new page!

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/05/2020 20:18

@HarrietM87 I have a named midwife as first contact, who keeps track of me, but I don’t know if she’ll actually be at my birth of course

OP posts:
HarrietM87 · 27/05/2020 21:18

@BuffaloCauliflower in my hospital it’s a certainty that the midwives you see in your pregnancy won’t be there at the birth as they’re completely separate job roles - there are antenatal midwives and then separately ones on delivery suite/birth centre. The only exception is if you book a home birth and then you get the home birth team throughout.
