Also not bothered about fb so will defo be keeping in with this thread. I am due towards the end of the month so will be one of the stragglers! Everyone will have their babies and I will still be waddling about Grin

Hancock2020 · 07/05/2020 17:01

Dont worry me too @Filthyforfirth

Fouryearslater · 07/05/2020 17:07

I kinda wish we’d used cloth nappies with no.1 because we’d reuse them, but I just don’t know if I need the extra stress. Or if nursery would use them.

For buying odd bits, keep an eye on the Aldi special buys. They do some decent stuff.

HarrietM87 · 07/05/2020 17:08

I was 12 days overdue with my son (who was also measuring 5 days ahead so I think it was only a week really) so fully expecting it to be a similar situation this time. Officially due 6 Nov but think she will more likely make an appearance towards the end of the month.

Hard to believe we’ll have tiny newborns at Christmas!

FilthyforFirth · 07/05/2020 17:10

I am jealous @Hancock2020, I think your scan is way before mine! But I did have one at the EPU today so I feel a bit better about dating scan so far away.

HarrietM87 · 07/05/2020 17:12

Those of you keen on cloth nappies, we used them occasionally with my son (I actually found they gave him nappy rash so was probably doing something wrong). You probably know this but the ones advertised as “birth to potty” aren’t really suitable from birth unless you have a giant baby. Everyone I know who was committed to cloth just used disposables for the first month, didn’t have to invest in the newborn only cloth ones, got used to feeding and being a mum etc and then moved to the bigger birth to potty ones after a month or so when things felt more manageable and the nappies would last a lot longer. Not one for the diehards but an option worth considering!

I also really recommend cheeky wipes to everyone, cloth nappies or not. They are reusable wipes and so much better at cleaning than disposables, plus they are gentler on the skin and better for environment. Tbh it’s the poo cleaning abilities that sold them to me - one cheeky wipe often enough whereas you’d need 6 water wipes that kind of just slide around it 🤢.

Hancock2020 · 07/05/2020 17:17

@FilthyforFirth it's on tuesday afternoon

Natopp · 07/05/2020 18:17

Oh I will stick to MN then! For some reason thought most people were using FB. I'm happy on here :-)

NoseringGirl · 07/05/2020 18:18

Marking my place! Looking forward to seeing more scan photos!

BeMorePacific · 07/05/2020 18:24

@HarrietM87 just had a look at cheeky wipes. I’ve never heard of them, but like the thought of more eco friendly wipes. Are they just like little flannels? Did they wash ok? Did they stain? Do you need to use a new one after every nappy change? So many q’s! xx

Addler · 07/05/2020 18:26

@FilthyforFirth I think you and I might be the last two for scans! I'm the 20th and you're 22st/22nd if I remember correctly? I haven't even had my booking in appointment yet, that's next Tuesday. Still so long to wait!

EBM20 · 07/05/2020 18:46

@Fouryearslater I've worked in a few private day nurserys and pre-schools and they all allowed the choice of cloth nappies if wanted. We did have one child who struggled to learn to walk due to the bulk of the nappy and also they tended to cut into the legs when they start sitting up! Tops day nurserys support cloth nappies and actually have away some at the start of the pandemic to children who's familys were struggling/going to struggle during the pandemic! After having experience in a nursery of using cloth nappies we will be using disposables, the thought of scooping out the no'2's, it wasn't nice with gloves on, so can't imagine doing it without! Also I wouldn't want to be carrying around a dirty nappy all day if we were out for the day!

noonaah · 07/05/2020 18:49

I had my dating scan today 😊 all good and baby due 20th nov

However if anyone has any product recommendations in terms of car seats, prams, pushchairs, cots that turn into beds, baby wardrobes, changing tables, Moses baskets etc (I could go on) send them my way as I literally have no clue

There's a conversation on the Facebook page you might find useful, @MrsR87.

Car seats - depends on if you want it as part of a travel system (ie where you can put the car seat onto the pram base without having to take baby out) or aren't bothered about that. You can get car seats for each stage, or one that goes from birth to 12. It's a whole thread in its own right, but I would say pick something that is extended rear facing (at least until 2, preferably 4). I won't go into specifics, but they are still very flexible until that age and what would result in whiplash for an adult or older child can leave toddlers paralysed.

Prams/pushchairs - you need to work out what sort of thing you want/need. My list was: for us it was worth getting a travel system, I wanted the pram seat (ie older child part) to forward and rear face and be able to change between easily, DP is tall (and I get a bad back from bending) so I wanted a pram that was quite high, with an adjustable handlebar, and a single handlebar so it was easier to push one handed. This was 5 years ago, and I narrowed it down to the Uppababy Vista (about £900) and the Cosatto Giggle (about £500). Then I found the Cosatto on sale, and I liked the interesting print, so that's what I bought.

Cot - DS was in a cosleeper until 6 months, and then we got a cheap cot from IKEA (this one but I think it was cheaper then), then when DS was old enough we had him on a mattress on the floor for a bit, then a proper bed.

Baby wardrobes - look very pretty, but are a waste of money new. Buy second hand.

Changing table - are a waste of money new. We never bothered, just had a changing mat upstairs. You can get changers that go over the top of the cot for about £30 (cot top changers). Or else buy second hand.

Moses basket - some babies just hate them. I'd say only worth buying second hand, but you will need a new mattress.

You need somewhere for baby to sleep, clothes for them to wear and a way to feed them. You can get everything else after they're born.

If you plan to formula feed, invest in a Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine. They're worth their weight in gold.

FireflyGirl · 07/05/2020 19:15

Lovely photo, @noonaah 💓

FireflyGirl · 07/05/2020 19:22

@EBM20 you're supposed to put liners in the cloth nappies, which you can flush along with the number 2s.

I did as @HarrietM87 mentioned, spent the first month getting to grips with everything else so used disposables. DS wet a lot at night, and leaked through the cloth nappies, so he was in disposables at night as well. I was a sahm until he was 2, and he was mostly dry by the time he went to nursery, so not an issue there.

I've actually felt nearly normal for the first time in weeks today. Made the most of it to deep clean the kitchen (including inside the dishwasher, so feeling very virtuous) and bake treats for our VE Day afternoon tea tomorrow.

Wise0wl · 07/05/2020 19:28

Lovely scan pics!

@BeMorePacific I use Cheeky Wipes reusable make up wipes and they’re great. I have a mesh bag which I collect the used ones in and then I stick the bag in the wash. They’re really soft and clean well, so have also thought about the baby wipe versions.

HarrietM87 · 07/05/2020 19:35

@BeMorePacific yes they are just little flannels. You could easily make your own by cutting up towels/face cloths but you’d have to hem them and I don’t have time for that! The size is perfect for nappy changes. You wouldn’t reuse them between changes. Mine haven’t stained at all and they’re still in use 2 years on! Before weaning they can just go in the normal wash; since weaning I wash them on a hotter wash with other cloths/towels.

I can’t recommend them enough. We used baby wipes on holiday and honestly the difference is so noticeable - they do a much better job of cleaning. Also you pay up front but save so much money, especially if you would have used water wipes, which are expensive. I’m reusing mine for this baby.

FilthyforFirth · 07/05/2020 19:46

That is right @Addler! I am pretty much last. I also measured two days behind today so worried my due date is going to move to the 28th... nooooooo! Though if I am unlucky to have HG the whole time again I will insist on having the baby at 38 weeks again which should put me more middling November.

SqidgeBum · 07/05/2020 19:56

I had a good day today too MS wise. I dont think I felt sick all day. I went for a nice walk, and then planted some bedding plants in my garden. I even had a chilli (which would have resulted in instant puking a week ago). At 14+3 I think I can say I am over the worst of it

Tonicandgin · 07/05/2020 20:52

Place marking.

I'd like to join fb group too.

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/05/2020 21:00

@FireflyGirl not true at all, there’s no need to use liners unless you want to. They’re designed to be used without.

@HarrietM87 yes in the BTP not actually being so. I am going to get some shaped newborn sized ones with wraps as I know we’ll have more children, they can also easily be sold on. Yes to the cheeky wipes. We actually already use family cloth in this house so I have loads of little terry cloths. I may just get more of the same and use them for all of us.

Marking my place. I felt a bit more human today deep cleaned and organised ds bedroom. Count down to my scan Monday, I'm just trying to keep myself busy.

Thank you for starting a new thread - loving following everyone’s journeys - it hit anyone else that we are all over a third of the way there now?! I feel like it’s only just started! Time is flying!
