Morning all, is anyone getting any pulling/cramping?

I'm hoping it's just the usual stretching going on, it usually only lasts a few mins at a time but its been happening the last few days. I'm 16 weeks tomorrow, so wondering if there's a growth spurt of some sort happening!

justtb · 03/05/2020 11:07

@mc3209 if it's a biodegradable liner then it goes down toilet but if it's a soaker it goes in wash... got my preloved cloth nappy stash already, cannot wait 🥰🥰

@KitKatKit I am having this.. but struggling to tell if it's bloat at the end of the day or to put it bluntly me just being full of poo 😂 I do think it's just everything stretching out.

Does anyone know if this goes away as we get more pregnant? I just assume it will for some strange reason

KitKatKit · 03/05/2020 11:58

@justtb Haha I did wonder that but I've ruled that out as I emptied out first thing! (Sorry everyone, TMI). It's been about 90 mins now, kind of like a dull persistent ache. Have resorted to getting back in bed with pregnancy pillow between my legs, hoping it will ease it a bit.

roarfeckingroar · 03/05/2020 12:16

It was a lovely afternoon and I'm feeling vastly better today. Still can't believe it's a boy 😍

roarfeckingroar · 03/05/2020 12:17

@Freddie1987 EXACTLY!!! Have your feelings etc but let's remember who is doing the hard work here, mate.

Mc3209 · 03/05/2020 13:34

@KitKatKit I got those pulling sensations. I am assuming it's the stretching.

Lots of great advice on here. By all means try reusables, if you can. It just wasn't for me. In my own opinion, i would advise using disposables for the first couple of months, while getting a couple of reusables and just trial them to see what you like.

I wouldn't have been able to use non disposables for the first 3months especially the first few weeks as meconium is truly something else!

Not to mention, you don't know how things might go with your birth and yes, you will be completely lost with regards to day, night, feeds, sleep, even if all goes smoothly. It's one less thing to have to deal with, which might sound trite but in those early days even the smallest thing to make life easier is worth it,

Newborns get through 8+ nappies a day easily, and they are really sticky, gloppy, nasty things too. It just feels like a lot of pressure that can be avoided when so much else is going on.

I think the advice of starting off with disposables, then introducing reusables when you've found your feet is a good idea.

I tried them with baby no 1, but gave up after 1week.
It was also January and nothing would dry. I washed every day, then hung indoors on an airer with the heating on running constantly next to it, and the 12 nappies I had were not ever dry. And despite soaking them, using liners which I rinsed first and being careful with detergent etc, I ended up with a sludgy brown buildup in the washing machine every single time.

Also can you expect people who offer to babysit to also use reusable and wash those nappies?

DressingGown87 · 03/05/2020 13:54

@KitKatKit I've got them too today, I didn't know if its stretching or if I have just done too much lifting etc over the last couple of days. Constant twinges on my left side too. Hope being back in bed is making you feel better.

Clalou83 · 03/05/2020 14:11

I've had cramps, twinges, pulling in and off since week 5 on both sides of tummy and back. So must be growing and stretching pains.

Clalou83 · 03/05/2020 14:25

@UpsyDaisy1234 Some very good points also, to think about, It's all about finding what works for you and your baby isn't it and your right there's so many possible variables, thank you.

1990shopefulftm · 03/05/2020 14:54

A bit ahead of myself really but found some unisex 0-6 months sleeping bags for a great price and I couldn't resist. Can't wait to know if it's a boy or a girl to get started on clothes as the unisex ones seem to be a bit minimal.

KitKatKit · 03/05/2020 15:41

Thanks ladies, good to know I'm not the only one! I stayed in bed for an hour and then got fed up so have made a start on emptying out wardobes (I've been putting it off for months). It was a good distraction, though now I'm knackered!

@UpsyDaisy1234 Thank you for sharing your insights, that was a really measured and sensible post!

@1990shopefulftm ooh exciting, if you see stuff that's a good deal why not! I've bought a cute muslin and that's it. I'm waiting til 20 weeks and then I'm going to go mental shopping lol. Hopefully this bloody lockdown will have been lifted by then too...

justtb · 03/05/2020 15:53

I think I've just come here to vent as I am a little upset. I went to my mums earlier to pick up some medication (she puts it on her front window sill and I stand and chat to her 6 ft apart blah blah blah). I told her I'm now wearing maternity trousers as my normal ones are too snug. THE RELIEF OF MATERNITY TROUSERS OMG! They are rolled down three times but still...
I showed her my belly and she said 'oh my god you are huge.'
I don't even think I'm showing right now and for her to have said that has just floored me. I said I weighed 57kg at my 12 week scan.. I think I've put on like 0.5-1kg since February.. and she said 'that's a lot.'

I'm shocked. I feel crap now. I always wondered why pregnant women complained about putting weight on because it's obviously the baby! But now I totally understand it and I'm struggling. I put on about 5kg between October and Jan anyway.. ugh god. Sometimes I wish people didn't open their mouths 😢

justtb · 03/05/2020 15:56

@upsydaisy1234 I would never expect someone who offered to babysit to use my reusable nappies. I would buy biodegradable disposable ones and have them use them instead

1990shopefulftm · 03/05/2020 17:03

@Kitkatkit, just have to be a bit restrained as until the plastering is sorted there's not much space to put stuff but then I ll probably get everything in a short period.

@justtb that's absolutely awful, your mum should be ashamed. I hadn't weighed myself since before January but I ve gained about 3-4kg since getting pregnant so I m 56kg now and I m not worried at all as the midwives had no concerns .
What you ve put on is nothing anyone should be commenting on the placenta and all the fluid can end up weighing a few pounds in itself.

KitKatKit · 03/05/2020 17:19

@justtb If its any consolation I was wearing denim maternity shorts at 8 weeks!! I've gained a fair bit already and don't care. I've had to throw out a couple of pairs of pyjamas today as the bottoms were getting too tight and digging into my hips at night time. Have got two long sleeping Tshirts and stealing some of DHs comfy bottoms if I'm chilly at night.
As long as you and baby are happy and healthy, it doesn't matter how big or small we are!

Flora20 · 03/05/2020 17:39

@UpsyDaisy1234 It's a shame you had such a bad experience. We used disposables for the first couple of months but as soon as we started in cloth we never looked back and are planning to do it from birth this time. It sounds as though you might have had some bad advice too since soaking isn't recommended and really wouldn't help, not surprised you had problems with your machine! As for childcare etc it really depends on what you're using - we send ones to the childminder that go on exactly like disposables so it doesn't make any difference to her. Getting the right advice and help makes a big difference 🙂

@justtb Can't believe your mum said that! Ignore her - you're pregnant, getting bigger is a pretty essential part of the process! Wear what's comfy, maternity clothes are amazing... I adored my jeans last time!

I've eaten so many chocolate biscuits today... Contemplating a shopping order just to hide the amount from my husband before he sees the empty shelf!

LST87 · 03/05/2020 17:49

Hello everyone,
Been following this thread for a few weeks not usually a chatter but be nice to talk to people in a similar situation, due on the 20th October, nice to see everyone’s pregnancies going well. I was wondering if anyone had experienced any blood tinged discharge, today I’ve experienced this along with cramps/stretching pains on and off. I’ve got a private scan booked for next weekend but wondered if I needed to speak to someone before then? Thanks in advance

LST87 · 03/05/2020 17:54

It isn’t very much more when I wipe TMI, sorry to ask questions when I’ve only just joined this thread just a bit concerned.

Clalou83 · 03/05/2020 18:07

@LST87 Hi Welcome I think if your ever concerned always phone your midwife and they can even reassure you or send you for a check up at hospital. For my 1st pregnancy I called the early pregnancy ward and they made me an appointment straight away. They are usually open 24 hours. Every experience is different so very hard to say what or why it's happening. Smile I know I've heard if no other symptoms usually fine, but if in doubt call someone. Hope that helps x

Clalou83 · 03/05/2020 18:10

@LST87 sorry hope I not scared you as I mentioned other symptoms it could just be that the baby is moving up?

LST87 · 03/05/2020 18:18

@Clalou83 Thank you for replying I’ll see how it goes this evening and ring tomorrow, I don’t have a direct number for my midwife in the current situation as they keep changing. It’s my first pregnancy so clueless 🙈 and first sign of anything being wrong, did have sex yesterday sorry TMI so hoping maybe it’s that!

Mc3209 · 03/05/2020 18:27

@LST87 May be sex irritated your cervix? Worth running it past your midwife if you are worried.

@justtb Gosh, that was a very insensitive comment from your mom. I've gained 2kg so far, and have been in maternity clothes for good few weeks now (thanks to the bloat 😬). Weight gain is a healthy and expected thing in pregnancy, all part of the process of growing a human.

LST87 · 03/05/2020 18:40

Thank you, I will ring them in the morning if it is still happening. Really hoping it’s nothing to worry about.

Freddie1987 · 03/05/2020 18:42

@LST87 I have read in quite a few places that sex can irritate the cervix and a little bit of spotting for a day or so afterwards is normal, so hopefully that eases your worries but good idea to ring the midwife anyway, they will have heard every concern like this and I'm sure will ask for you to go to the clinic if necessary. Just think of all the extra blood flow down there, it's bound to be a bit sensitive!

@justtb mums can sometimes say things they think are well meaning and forget how sensitive we can be! I hope she's thought about it and feeling a bit guilty and apologises 🙃
