Congrats to all today’s scan people!

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/05/2020 16:05

Does anyone know WHY a full bladder would be better? I’d have thought it would get in the way?

futuredreams · 06/05/2020 16:18

It pushes your uterus to the front ... or up I think so make scan more visible apparently

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/05/2020 16:31

@futuredreams up might make sense. In my head my bladder is in front of my uterus! But it might be under!

Mn345678 · 06/05/2020 16:57

@BuffaloCauliflower Hey I went to my scan with an empty bladder and asked if that was a problem and they said it was absolutely fine as the new machines no longer require you to have a full bladder. Maybe check with you hosp first

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/05/2020 16:59

Yeh I’m going go check with the midwife Smile

EBM20 · 06/05/2020 17:18

Little bit of joy when I found decafe coffee pods on my online Tesco shopping! Came today and they don't taste as good but beats the craving and looking at the unused machine😂

MrsR87 · 06/05/2020 17:56

@Tonicandgin

I had a little cry too at mine a couple of weeks ago. I think it was relief and joy that there was a baby who was alive and well was in there but also sadness that OH wasn’t there as we’ve been planning this for years! I then also had a cry when I got home and showed OH the pics!

Tonicandgin · 06/05/2020 18:10

@BuffaloCauliflower I asked this question at my scan.

Apparently the technology doesn't require a full bladder as they are clear enough pictures, but, a full bladder means that they can get you to empty it if baby isn't doing what they need. If you then empty your bladder it will move the baby and give them the chance to see the angles they need.

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/05/2020 19:01

@Tonicandgin ah ok, fair enough, I’ll take that! I’ll go for medium bladder if I can 😂

Hancock2020 · 06/05/2020 19:15

I've got my scan on tuesday and I'm just no longer feeling excited about it.
Not sure what's wrong with me?
Maybe it's because dh cant come, or because usually from 12 weeks you get to go shopping and get loads of stuff ready and we cant because of stupid cv. (Or these are the straws I'm clinging to, because surely I should be excited??)

Tonicandgin · 06/05/2020 19:46

@Hancock2020 this is exactly how I felt today and before. Not excited, flat about it all, and then about 2 hours before I became a stressed mess.

But in the scan when I saw the baby I just cried and I'm so happy now. I think it was all the Covid worry and not being able to experience it with DH either. And worrying about 'does it have a heartbeat/am I imagining it?' Etc.

I think the 12 week scan is a stress at the best of times but is so much harder at the moment.

HarrietM87 · 06/05/2020 20:03

I wasn’t excited before mine, had a brief moment of happiness during it, and then went back to worrying again! I’ve had loads of scans this pregnancy (this was my 4th) and each one has been good news so don’t know why I’m still so stressed and miserable tbh. I think it’s probably lockdown and tiredness.

@ACatCalledLola thanks for the tips! I do plan on getting a close caboo as well - forgot to mention that - we used our ergo constantly with my son but I think a softer one will be more useful for indoors in the early days. Have also ordered a load of books to read to my son inc the one you mentioned!

SqidgeBum · 06/05/2020 20:08

I wasnt excited for mine. In fact, I had the beginnings of a panic attack in the waiting room and ended up pacing around trying to breath like some lunatic. A woman came out with her scan pictures and all I could think was 'that wont be me. They are going to tell me its gone'. I freaked. But when I came out I was obviously much calmer.

I have to say though, I dont feel much excitement with this baby. Maybe its because everything is so uncertain, and my DHs job is also quite uncertain, I had post natal psychosis on the last one and am terrified it will happen again, and we already have a kid so I know the reality of what I am getting into. You wont always feel excited about being pregnant. Its a huge thing, and emotions go all over the place.

FlashesOfRage · 06/05/2020 22:47

@BuffaloCauliflower

Medium bladder is best 👌

The anechoic (empty black space) of a party filled bladder helps to resolve the shadows and reflections of the different tissue layers in the area.

Usually a Transvaginal scan is done with an empty bladder and a transabdominal scan is done with a half filled bladder (full to bursting is too big and obscures things, it’s also hard to tolerate a 30min dating scan with it as well!).

I had an abdominal scan at 10wks that was pretty ruined by my bladder being accidentally empty. Everything becomes more reflective (white graininess and shades of grey rather than contrasting details).

Here’s a pic of it

And my 12wk abdominal scan with a half full bladder

Natopp · 07/05/2020 07:25

@FlashesOfRage love these pictures! Congrats on twins!!

Will go with half bladder today.

Just sat in bed eating special k, managed to sleep last night but feel really nervous and excited.

Anyone else got their scan today?

TangBloodyFastic · 07/05/2020 09:48

Good luck @Natopp what time's your scan?

@FlashesOfRage ah lovely pics! Do you have a bump yet? Sorry if you've already said but do twins run in your family? Grin

Natopp · 07/05/2020 10:20

Just had my scan. Had to have an internal as baby wasn't playing ball. Got so many amazing pictures and she even did a video for me to record for my hubby. Over the moon. Just so happy!! Good luck everyone else with scans xxx

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/05/2020 10:30

Great news @Natopp!

Thanks for that @FlashesOfRage, I can see the benefit of medium bladder it’s just hard to find that balance with my dodgy bladder! I wee probably 15+ times a day (sensitive nerves) so not very much in there will feel like bursting for me. With my early scan I had a pint of water about 45 minutes before my scan and was bursting and bloated by the time I got in there.

eleanorsos · 07/05/2020 11:42

Congrats @Natopp ! 🥳

Charlottethevet · 07/05/2020 11:44

When I had my 12 weeks scan last Tuesday, I was asked to empty my bladder as it was too full and pushing the baby off the screen!!
We got the best images when it was around 1/3 full

FlashesOfRage · 07/05/2020 11:51

Thanks guys xx

Hooray for your excellent scan @Natopp 💖💖

@TangBloodyFastic They definitely don’t, I’m afraid I cheated lol 😂.
I had to have IVF because of ovarian failure at just 34. I only had 3 eggs (normal is 15-20!) and two of them fertilised and became the babies I am carrying 💖 It’s the best thing that could have ever happened to me as my time was rapidly running out! There would have been no more chances with my own eggs by the end of 2020.

Good luck with your scan @BuffaloCauliflower and I hope your bladder isn’t too troublesome that day 🙏💗

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/05/2020 12:01

Amazing @FlashesOfRage! What a win. Reminder that they do happen Smile

TangBloodyFastic · 07/05/2020 12:07

@FlashesOfRage aw that's so lovely! Double the trouble and double the fun!
