@buffalocauliflower me too. That's why I'm keen to know the gender. We have close friends who have offered to give us some stuff that has barely been used. Just going to get a bed and stuff new. I think I might start thinking about it around 16 weeks.

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/05/2020 10:58

@TangBloodyFastic I need to go to the toilet a lot. I could wee before leaving for the scan, drive 10 minutes, wait 10 minutes, and need a wee again. Having had the early scan I know they’ll be pressing! I’ll probably wee before I leave but take water to drink once I’m there

Natopp · 06/05/2020 11:11

My boss has got so many girly bits to give me if it's a girl... Her taste in clothes in amazing and she has so many expensive pieces which we'd never afford to buy ourselves 😂 so we all know it's going to be a boy 😂😂😂 haha!!

SqidgeBum · 06/05/2020 11:16

I left buying everything until after 30 weeks on my last one, although I pre ordered the buggy and car seat at about 27 weeks. This time I will be buying barely anything. We have all the baby stuff already and so many people buy you baby clothes that there is no point buying much. I will buy a few new vests maybe, and maybe a new prep machine. That's about it.

ticktackted · 06/05/2020 11:24

@jeleigh we bought a pram but only because cosatto had a great sale! Not buying anything else yet but have started looking at what I might want.

Becca65 · 06/05/2020 11:34

I got sent out of my scan to let 'half a wee' out! Took the instructions to go with a full bladder a little to seriously! The sonographer was struggling to see and it was making the image too grainy.

EBM20 · 06/05/2020 11:49

@ticktackted I was so tempted to buy one of the cosatto pushchairs in the sale! I held off and just hoping it will go back in the sale before baby comes!

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/05/2020 11:58

@EBM20 I’m tempted by Cosatto too! That might be what gets me

FilthyforFirth · 06/05/2020 11:58

With HG I am worried about having a full bladder for the scan. I am lucky if I drink more than a pint a day at the minute. I am on some different meds that are helping so fingers crossed I can get some down!

I was desperate to buy right away but DH convinced me to wait until 20 week scan, after that we started looking round and ordering bits and pieces. I went totally overboard with clothes, so if I am having another boy he will get his older brothers fabulous, barely worn wardrobe! No doubt I will do the same if it's a girl though....

Also hoping that if I hold off until after 20 weeks, which will be sometime in July for me, that some normal shopping may have resumed. We need a new car seat and want to look in person.

We are going to give the new baby DS's furniture as it still looks brand new, and decorate DS's bedroom in a theme of his choosing. Would people get a new mattress? DS will be 3 in July and started sleeping in his cot at 7 months. I would for sure if it had been handed down but unsure if I need to in this circumstance?!

NoseringGirl · 06/05/2020 12:08

I had my first baby in a different area and didn't need a full bladder for the 12 week scan. The letter specifically said I didn't. The scan photos were so bad though!
My second baby and this one I've needed a full bladder. I took it a bit too literally with my second and was so uncomfortable! I drank about half a pint of water an hour before this time and was a lot more comfortable. Scan was nice and clear.

@FilthyforFirth we arent changing the mattress in DDs cot as it was new when she started sleeping on it at 4 months, but she is currently only 17 months. We are moving her into a new room during summer with a floor bed. Not sure how that will go 😕

Tonicandgin · 06/05/2020 12:10

I've never been told to have a full bladder (2 kids previously). I checked first time and mw said it wasn't necessary.

Midwife mentioned it in passing this time but I'm not planning on doing it. Scan in just over an hour and I'm beyond stressed.

I don't want to go without dh. Totally understand the reasons and we wouldn't have childcare anyway, but I find it terrifying and would prefer for him to be there to hold my hand.

FilthyforFirth · 06/05/2020 12:13

Thanks @SqidgeBum. Mine was brand new as well. Our set is from mamas and papas and looks lovely still. Will do a bit of reading to see the consensus. I think it should be fine, but am feeling cautious!

AnxiousLady1 · 06/05/2020 12:13

I asked whether I needed a full bladder as I never received the actual scan letter. The nurse laughed a little and said "Oh no, the scanning technology has come a long way". So I guess it depends on the hospital and the kit they have, of others are being told to have a full bladder.

If you do have a full bladder be mindful of the pushing. The sonographer had to prod down any time she wanted the baby to move around to get a different angle. There was what looked like a roundhouse kick from the baby at one point in protest. 😂

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/05/2020 12:14

@Tonicandgin completely get that. It’s so not ideal. I’m sure everything will be fine. Hand hold from here x

HarrietM87 · 06/05/2020 12:28

We’re reusing everything this time round too. Just need to buy a new mattress for the next2me and a buggy board for the pram, which I’ll leave until much closer to the time. If anyone with 2 kids already can suggest anything else please let me know!

Natopp · 06/05/2020 12:28

@Tonicandgin I totally get it too!! I'm scared for tomorrow as hubby obvs can't come but I'm taking comfort knowing all women are in the same boat as me with this, virtual hand hold for you you'll be great xx

ACatCalledLola · 06/05/2020 12:34

@HarrietM87 if you don’t already have one then get a sling so you have hands free to deal with your toddler. Something stretchy like a close caboo works well at first. Also lots of books, colouring and stickers for the toddler to do with you while you’re pinned to the sofa under a newborn. Books like ‘There’s a house inside my mummy’ are also good to prepare them before baby arrives. Also maybe a doll so your toddler can play mummy/daddy too and do nappy changes etc on their baby while you are.
Good luck @Tonicandgin!

Fouryearslater · 06/05/2020 13:05

We kept DS’s cot mattress but I think we’ll replace even though it’s had little use. It’ll have spent 2 years in the loft and for the sake of ££ I’d rather new than the risk of sids. But mattress on DS’s current bed will definitely be handed down when the time comes!

We borrowed a Moses basket and I bought a new mattress for that, but I think we handed back the mattress with the basket. We may need to buy all new for that unless I can borrow another.

I’m thinking about a ‘next to me’ for upstairs if we can squeeze it in. Might make night feeds easier especially if I opt for another c section.

MissingMo · 06/05/2020 13:26

Had scan today. Measured at 13 weeks so due 11/11/20 all looking good so far and relieved. I'm a bit annoyed the sickness is still hanging around though.

MrsAJKA · 06/05/2020 14:02

Also had a scan today. Measuring at 12 weeks and 2 days. New due date of 16th Nov. The letter said full bladder and went in with full bladder - thought I was gonna wet myself 😂 She had a quick look then just asked for me to go toilet for a wee then we came back and did some dancing since baby wasn’t in the right position but we got there in the end. Congrats to everyone and good luck to those whose scans are coming up!

MillieY · 06/05/2020 14:06

@MissingMo also had my scan today and due 11th Nov! Congratulations!
Very surreal seeing baby and not sure I believe it still! Sonographer was really lovely and gave me 5 print outs and was very reassuring. Went in with a moderate full bladder and scan pictures seem very clear.
Good luck to everyone still waiting on scans x

MissingMo · 06/05/2020 14:45

@MillieY how amazing! Was a lovely experience, although partner wasnt there is was just lovely seeing everything was okay as far as we can tell. Also had a very sweet sonographer, Scottish which was unusual as I am nowhere near Scotland. Really lovely and lots of pictures too. No one in masks in my hospital, just staff from what I saw. Starting telling family and everyone seems excited. Also blood test results they say will be back within a week if low risk but phone call sooner if higher risk.

noonaah · 06/05/2020 15:16

To the people missing Deli meats - you can have them you just need to freeze them first then defrost them to kill the bugs.

Tonicandgin · 06/05/2020 15:19

Scan today! Baby all looking amazing, I cried!

Hard without dh but the staff were incredible - so so caring and lovely. Honestly I couldn't fault them.

Told the kids and ds immediately came and kissed my tummy. Dd is far more reserved but can't stop smiling.

What a lovely day. SmileGrin
