Another new thread! Reckon we can get all the scans into this one?

Regarding dates moving, if I know the date of my last period and I can pinpoint conception to one of two days (day after each other) what is the reason for the dates to be different?
Apologies if that's a completely stupid question I may be pregnant but the whole conception thing to me is like a dark art!!! 😂

Amymone · 23/04/2020 14:31

Also love that I attract replies from gin lovers .... how did you know?! Grin

KatieGlo · 23/04/2020 14:31

It's really hard being in lockdown with our cravings and aversions isn't it!?
I really want stuff that only comes from cafes/ restaurants that are now closed up. A wagamamas ginger oudon noodles would be flippin' awesome

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 14:33

@TangBloodyFastic it’s not that the dates are different, it’s just when they scan baby they measure them to a size that’s specific to a day, but they can be a week bigger or smaller. So I was 10 weeks yesterday, but baby was measured at the size of 10 weeks and 5 days. Doesn’t mean that my dates are out, just that there a big bigger. A week either way is fine. But the official estimated due date is taken from that measurement not your dates. Does that make sense?

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 14:34

They’re a bit bigger*

Amymone · 23/04/2020 14:34

@TangBloodyFastic sperm can hang around for up to 6 days before you actually conceive. So you could have sex on Monday but not actually conceive until Saturday if that helps? I have a funny conundrum in that my early scan dated me to a week earlier than my supposed conception date. I have absolutely no recollection of having sex that week so a bit of a puzzle!!

TangBloodyFastic · 23/04/2020 14:35

@BuffaloCauliflower ohhhh I see!! So your EDD still remains the same?
Gosh I'm such a novice BlushGrin

Amymone · 23/04/2020 14:36

@BuffaloCauliflower oh yes, that too. Also the sizing/dating is apparently more accurate at the 12 week scan than any early scans like the one I had

TangBloodyFastic · 23/04/2020 14:36

@BuffaloCauliflower sorry just re-read the last bit. So they date based on measurements
Right ok got it! Every day a school day😂

NoseringGirl · 23/04/2020 14:36

@KatieGlo yes! I was massively craving the mac and cheese balls from Byron Burger the other day. My lovely husband spent ages in the kitchen trying to recreate them for me!

@KatieGlo been thinking a lot about Pret almond croissants. And wahaca.

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 14:39

@Amymone yes I’m expecting my dates to change again at the next scan, could well right itself and to back to original dates. I was just glad to see baby looking big and strong!

TangBloodyFastic · 23/04/2020 14:39

So another rookie question 😁
I'm going for my NIPT Monday where I guess they will provide an est due date, when I go for my NHS scan, whenever that may be, could they possibly give me a different date based on the growth in between the two scans?

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 14:40

@Amymone the Wahaca frijoles is a favourite of mine, I make it myself now, it’s really easy!

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 14:41

@TangBloodyFastic yes they could. It doesn’t really matter hugely, less than 5% of babies come on their due date!

seventhrow · 23/04/2020 14:44

Ahhh I'm struggling to keep up!

Really happy for everyone who has had positive scans. Such good news. It's really nice that we're all going through these milestones around the same-ish time.

Had a call from the special mental health midwife at St Thomas's and she said that even though I'm ok at the moment she's going to "pinch me" and take me under her care so she'll be my main midwife. I'm really pleased as she seems super nice and it's reassuring to know that if I completely freak out at putting weight on or start getting overwhelmed the whole thing she'll be there.

Looking forward to my scan next Thursday. I have this underlying pleasant feeling that everything is going fine so don't have many nerves. Excited to be 11+1 weeks right now.

Did a 5k yesterday and my timing was terrible but it felt like I am getting stronger / the fatigue is passing. Am pleased I persevered with horrifically slow jogging through the last few weeks as it means I've still got a base fitness now I'm coming through it.

On vitamins... I'm only taking D, folic acid and occasionally iron. But I've always been a healthy eater and I grew up with pharmaceutical parents that think most vitamins are a money-making scam.... unless you're coming down with a cold and must immediately take 8 vitamin C. (Was such a trial to swallow them all as a teenager...). Still baffles me.

eleanorsos · 23/04/2020 14:45

Oh gosh, page 2 already! Joining the new thread, my scan isn't until May 4th so my pic might be on thread 6! 😂 Loved seeing everyone else's though, hope everyone is keeping safe and sane x

TangBloodyFastic · 23/04/2020 14:45

Thanks @BuffaloCauliflower

seventhrow · 23/04/2020 14:48

One question - how long does the 12 week scan take, plus bloods? Mine is at 12noon and I don't want to have to worry about work calling me and not being at my (home)desk. Considering saying I've got an emergency dental appointment so that I get a good 90mins of non-hassle...
Has anyone else been in this situation? It's hard to come up with an excuse for not being at work when normal doctor appointments aren't even happening atm.

Amymone · 23/04/2020 14:49

@seventhrow I'm with St Thomas's too and I'm so, so impressed with them so far. The midwife has phoned me every day this week to follow up with this that and the other. Really lovely too. Feel in very safe hands despite the current situ. Hope everyone else is getting this level of care x

Amymone · 23/04/2020 14:50

@BuffaloCauliflower good idea!!

TangBloodyFastic · 23/04/2020 14:54

And thanks @Amymone its a real science conceiving! I'm still surprised it happened so quick for us, I think it was by more luck than management tbh!

AnxiousLady1 · 23/04/2020 15:09

Some really fancy food cravings being mentioned on here. I keep eating cheese and onion crisp sandwiches. Pretty sure that covers all the necessary dietary requirements...😂

katsnmouse · 23/04/2020 15:15

@Tonicandgin and @Amymone i don’t understand why tongue/lip tie isn’t assessed early on. Even if it doesn’t affect all feeding, i think it would be useful for mums to have that knowledge, so if they do find breastfeeding hard, that they know it could be due to the tie. Both of my dds had tt, the first it was never addressed but with the second time i new feeding wasn’t right. I spent the whole first night post birth trying to feed- the mw kept coming in and saying ‘oh, your still at it’. No offer of help, even when i asked for it. Turns out there was a lactation consultant in the hospital who could have come and checked dd and helped me out. It frustrates me how much bf is pushed but how difficult it can be to find support.

katsnmouse · 23/04/2020 15:16

@seventhrow that sounds amazing re the mental health midwife! Fab care!!
