For those of you on the first baby, ringing 111 or the GP up to 20 weeks is normal. It's because (as far as i know) before 20 weeks the baby isnt classed as a baby medically. Medically nothing can or would be done for a baby under 20 weeks gestation, so they would just treat the Mom medically. After 20 weeks the baby would be under the care of midwives, so then you ring them with issues. For the first 20 weeks we are basically left to just bake the babies, bar the 12 week scan, 16 week appointment, and then the 20 week scan where they do all the checks on baby. There isnt much 'support' until 20 weeks. It was like that pre virus too.

HarrietM87 · 15/04/2020 16:55

@EBM20 I’m not having my bloods done until my scan either. I don’t think you need to worry unless you know you have health issues. They test for stuff like HIV, syphilis, hepatitis which you’d most likely know if you have! And they also check your blood group because if you’re Rh- I think you need an extra injection. At the scan they also do the bloods they use as part of the screening which is measuring various hormone levels like Hcg and Papp A.

Definitely keep persisting with trying to get an earlier slot for the scan though!

Hancock2020 · 15/04/2020 16:57

I feel like I've missed loads not being on here all day

EBM20 · 15/04/2020 16:59

@HarrietM87 thank you!
I will keep ringing to try get an earlier scan!

bluebell94 · 15/04/2020 17:02

@Lulubon @canueve I've also went back in time 😂 really long cycles so had no idea, 12 week scan booked for next week as midwife going off LMP date but private scan put me at only 8+4 now. It just makes it seem so much longer!

burntpinky · 15/04/2020 17:03

@ACatCalledLola yes that was my reason fir going elective - the planned and calm nature of it all. Mine wasn’t a big baby but I am a panicker and planner by nature so I thought I’d be so scared baby wouldn’t progress and I’d end up with an EMCS anyway so I figured why not just go straight to elective. I do want to do same this time too I think, only a tiny bit of me is wanting to try. But given my age (I’ll be 42 at birth) am thinking might be best to go straight to elective section

Pink15 · 15/04/2020 17:10

@BuffaloCauliflower well I guess it worked 😂😂😂

NoseringGirl · 15/04/2020 17:16

Just marking my place on the new and already very busy thread!
Had my booking in appointment today. I should get my scan date soon and it'll be in a couple of weeks. I'm going to get bloods done on Friday. I'm a bit nervous of that as the midwives are based in a building where I work sometimes (not currently due to the virus) and worried about bumping into people I know!
The midwife was very supportive of me wanting a home birth which I'm excited about! All virus dependant obviously.

burntpinky · 15/04/2020 17:29

@Fouryearslater hope you’re feeling better soon x

ChasingTheSunshineAlways · 15/04/2020 17:35

@LozEliza I'm 10 weeks today. It's good to hear of others who's symptoms have slowed down too.

I didn't feel anything too strongly to begin with so suddenly feeling nothing was odd.

How far along are you? I might have missed that. This thread is going fast!

Fredthespider · 15/04/2020 17:37

@ParisInTheSpringtime I found the Positive Birth Book by Milli Hill brilliant first time around. Very informative and I didn’t find it too preachy but some people comment that they thought it was. I found the key was being aware of all of your options which allows you to make informed decisions.

Pippop21 · 15/04/2020 18:08

Omg i cant keep up with all these threads lol!!!!

excitednerves · 15/04/2020 18:30

@BuffaloCauliflower she was really great actually. I’m coming back after 11 months but taking 4 weeks leave, then I’ll only be working 12 weeks before I go off again. There will be 16 months between my two babies. It’s going to be crazy!

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/04/2020 18:40

@excitednerves glad she was good, that is a short gap! My bf has 11 months between two of hers and she says she’d recommend it (she has bigger gaps between 1-2 and 3-4) because you’re just in the zone and going for it! And it’s lovely that they always have someone at a similar stage to play with

excitednerves · 15/04/2020 18:42

@buffalocauliflower thanks! Aww I’m glad your friend has made it work. I think it’ll be great in the long run too - they’ll always have a bestie

Lulubon · 15/04/2020 19:11

@bluebell94 I feel the pain! Tbh the time does fly by, I found out at 3 weeks so to think it’s already been 6 since then is mad!
Also how are your pregnancy symptoms. I’ve had extreme morning sickness ever since the day I found out. I’m sick about 6 times a day and have lost sooo much weight. Finding it quite difficult if I’m honest. I have sore boobs still but they aren’t as bad as they were and the disgusting taste in my mouth but that could also be from all the sick.

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/04/2020 19:17

Getting a lot of back pain today, like period pain, and the odd uterus stably pain. I know it’s generally normal and the obviously going to feel things as the uterus changes and stretches, but it’s a bit disconcerting. Has anyone else had this?

Trying not to be a completely anxious pregnant person but it’s really hard!

Fouryearslater · 15/04/2020 19:18

I feel human 😃 drugs have kicked in and I’ve eaten and everything 😃

jeleigh · 15/04/2020 19:29

@BuffaloCauliflower I’ve had this throughout (I’m 11 weeks) and as long as it’s not overly painful I think it’s okay, but it has me worried every time it happens too

LozEliza · 15/04/2020 19:30

@ChasingTheSunshineAlways it's going so fast I can't keep up! I'm 10+1 and symptoms are getting a lot better.

LozEliza · 15/04/2020 19:32

@BuffaloCauliflower how far along are you? I had exactly this today and googled it. Apparently from 10 weeks it's normal due to everything growing so rapidly to make room. It feels so like beginning of AF for me it's really off putting.

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/04/2020 19:34

@jeleigh it’s not super painful but quite consistently uncomfortable for most of the day, I’ve actually taken some paracetamol now. I’ve had twinges throughout (I’m 9 weeks) but nothing this consistent. I’ve had an early loss before so I’m on high alert.

HarrietM87 · 15/04/2020 19:40

@BuffaloCauliflower I’ve had period like cramps since conceiving and just after that bleed this week I had 24 hrs of really strong cramping. It tailed off yesterday but has come back a bit again today. It is really disconcerting but I think it’s completely normal.

jeleigh · 15/04/2020 19:41

@BuffaloCauliflower I had an early loss back in January, so every little twinge and ache I’m super anxious too and straight to google (even though I shouldn’t) but I think it’s quite normal with everything stretching and making room - or so I keep telling myself

AnxiousLady1 · 15/04/2020 19:43

@BuffaloCauliflower I get this too. Worried me initially, and then I started to realise the amount of time I spend on the couch /sitting on kitchen chair trying to work is likely not doing my back any favours either!

Anyone else around the 10 week mark with SERIOUS bloat. I've read it's quite common at 10 weeks and tends to be worse in the evenings, which is exactly what's happening me. But honestly I look several months pregnant rather than 10 weeks. My DH keeps commenting on my "bump " and I keep trying to explain that's just bloating 😂
