@ParisInTheSpringtime glad your scan went well 😊

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 12:03

@ParisInTheSpringtime great news! Where were you measuring in relation to your dates? Any adjustments?

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 12:05

@HarrietM87 I am thankful for my ability to take even massive pills easily 😂 normally Id say the same about my diet, but I’m eating so weirdly at the moment I’m thankful for the extra vitamins!

I think I’ve seen things about extra folic acid beyond 12 weeks actually being potentially harmful rather than just unnecessary. Has anyone else seen this?

Natopp · 23/04/2020 12:08

@ParisInTheSpringtime congratulations!!!!

burntpinky · 23/04/2020 12:08

I took Pregnacare Max all the way through my last pregnancy and he turned out just fine

HarrietM87 · 23/04/2020 12:11

@BuffaloCauliflower there’s some suggestion that high levels of folic acid is linked to tongue tie - is that what you’re thinking of? My son had tongue tie which wasn’t diagnosed until he was 6 months (I only took folic acids to 12 weeks) but it can be hereditary too so I’m getting a private lactation consultant this time to thoroughly check the new baby. Midwives are really hit and miss in my experience.

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 12:15

@HarrietM87 maybe, I can’t remember exactly what

KatieGlo · 23/04/2020 12:22

I'll be taking pregnancy multivitamins all the way through (inc folic acid), and extra calcium (I'm lactose intolerant so drinking milk is a no-no). Family history of weak bones so don't want baby sucking all of my calcium away!

AnxiousLady1 · 23/04/2020 12:22

I still gawk when swallowing the Pregnacare tablets. They are so big! But like @BuffaloCauliflower I'm glad to just be getting the extra vitamins as my diet is absolute pants. I'm slim build and my stomach has got so big I spent some time this morning trying to assess if this is pregnancy or just lockdown food baby. The results were inconclusive 😂

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 12:25

@KatieGlo dairy isn’t the only source of calcium. Leafy greens, calcium set tofu and beans and lentils are all good options that offer other nutrients as well

HarrietM87 · 23/04/2020 12:29

The only difference between pregnancy multivitamins and “normal” ones is (a) price - huge mark up on pregnancy ones and (b) the extra folic acid. The folic acid has no benefit post 12 weeks so if you want to take vitamins throughout it’s cheaper and just as good to take standard multivitamins.

FilthyforFirth · 23/04/2020 12:30

@Fingersxtoescrossed I also dry heave multiple times a day. I am currently doing it maybe 10 times a day but by the time I hit 12ish weeks last time it was 30+. I have HG though so may not be the same as you.

I hate it as, unlike when you actually throw up, you dont get any relief, no matter how momentary it is. The retching and the nausea is the absolute worst for me.

I am trying to give DH one 'lie in' a week as DS is an early riser but it killed me this morning and I collapsed back in bed at 830 and only just woken now...

Glad scans have gone well. Still waiting on the letter for mine, but I am only 9 weeks today.

60sPony · 23/04/2020 12:31

Glad to hear the good news of people’s scans! Must be a great relief!

@ParisInTheSpringtime I remember you’re at C&W too - if you don’t mind me asking.. where did you pick your notes up from before the scan? I was told on my booking appointment that I would but not where from. Thank you!

Maincat · 23/04/2020 12:33

@HarrietM87 I think I'm right in saying you shouldn't take regular multi vitamins, because they have Vit A in, which can harm the baby. Preg vitamins don't contain Vit A. Think I read that on the NHS site? I take the seven seas pregnancy ones, which are about £3 in Sainsbury's. X

KatieGlo · 23/04/2020 12:36

@Maincat that's what I thought too, supermarkets are soo much cheaper for them too

HarrietM87 · 23/04/2020 12:36

Oh sorry @Maincat you’re right - no vitamin A. My multivitamin is a standard one (boots) and it doesn’t have A in it. But worth checking.

ACatCalledLola · 23/04/2020 12:41

I was prescribed extra folic acid by my gp and she gave me enough for 16 weeks. Might have to check that with my midwife.

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/04/2020 12:43

What’s the problem with vitamin A?!

NoseringGirl · 23/04/2020 12:46

I was on high dose folic acid last time around the the consultant told me to take it for my whole pregnancy.
I hadn't heard the connection with tongue tie before but my eldest had a very severe tongue tie (he couldn't lift it at all!) and my youngest where I took folic acid the whole time didn't have one at all. I checked repeatedly and got loads of other people to check as well as I just couldn't believe it after his brother's was so bad! Obviously that's a small sample size of two Grin
Good luck to everyone having scans today!

DanceM1 · 23/04/2020 12:57

@AnxiousLady1 haha..I carry out the same assessment every day. Some days I convince myself its pregnancy, other days I know it's just lockdown food baby 🙈

Fingersxtoescrossed · 23/04/2020 13:05

@FilthyforFirth glad I’m not alone! I must be up there at 20+ times a day - wondering if it will ease off.. It’s almost like my body has got in to a bad habit from doing it so much and now it can’t stop ha!! Hope it doesn’t get worse for you. Fingers and toes crossed! Smile

We've nearly filled another one so have made a new thread!

November 2020 Babies - Thread 5 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3888838-november-2020-babies-thread-5

Tonicandgin · 23/04/2020 14:15

I'm on pregnacare and I've seen the link to tongue tie/folic acid.

Both of my dcs were tongue tied, first one not diagnosed despite going everywhere to get help. Very little support in my area at that time. Second time round ds was snipped and it made an incredible difference. I bf both babies for 21 months and 2.5 years so it is possible to feed around a tt sometimes, but it was incredibly difficult.

I know what I'm faced with after the first experience, but all tt clinics are closed round here because of covid. Hoping they're open by Nov..

Whether there's a link to tt or not I'll still take pregnacare because folic acid is so important.

nicolazex · 30/04/2020 17:21

Can anyone advise me? I'm not sure if I don't have a false pregnancy or false negative results on pregnancy tests. I have irregular periods, before unprotected sex was first day of my last period 4th or 5th march, sex was just after end of period. I have really low bleeding exactly 28 day after my last period for three days but it was nothing like a normal. Ever since second week after sex I feel weird, having morning, all day sickness, last few weeks I go pee often and often with doesn't apply on the other way to... I'm gassy. And since my potential seven week start I feel and see pulse in stomach, my belly goes up and down almost all time regardless of how I'm sitting or so...
