@Shefliesonherownwings @AnxiousLady1 @Knotemma @Avocuddles thanks for the tips, and I'm now feeling hopeful that it will be over in maybe even a couple of weeks if I'm lucky! It's not as bad as it was but I think that's partly me learning how to manage it i.e. keeping the house well ventilated, eating little and often, keeping well hydrated, not taking vitamins on an empty stomach etc. Apart from one week of pizza I actually can't stomach beige food, I seem to only be able to stand really healthy food! At first it was just soup soup soup, then the week of pizza, and this week I've been eating coleslaw, veggie mince/bolognese and potatoes.. I've not wanted anything sweet except tonnes of fruit - particularly oranges, strawberries, pears and melon. I don't think I've ever eaten so many veggies and fruit! My food aversions have definitely got slightly better the last week or so and hopefully that's a good sign, for about a month there I was struggling to think of one thing I could tolerate eating and it was constant work to find out what I could eat to keep the sickness at bay! Agree that I have no idea how you coped @Knotemma considering I'm whining so much about simple nausea and food aversions!

@TunnocksTcake amazing scan, congratulations!

@footprintsintheslow I don't have thyroid issues but do have to see a consultant about my large fibroids through this pregnancy. Hopefully your mind is at ease now that you are under someones watch and have been given meds/vitamins appropriate to you xxx

MOGMOGMOG85 · 12/05/2020 06:51

@Knotemma I forgot to say, apart from occasionally I can't drink water either! It just tastes different to me! I can drink filtered water occasionally, and the water at work tastes ok, but the tap water at home is just repulsive to me! I've not really been able to drink squash either, it has to be watered down juice 30% juice 60% filtered water - I'm never ever usually fussy! Not used to having to spend money on juice all the time!

MOGMOGMOG85 · 12/05/2020 07:00

Lol I hope you're not a mathematician because my stats there about the juice dont add up do they.. Grin

Knotemma · 12/05/2020 07:51

@TunnocksTcake congratulations on your little girl, that's wonderful news. What a lovely pink Monday we had!

@MOGMOGMOG85 I think you just cope. I took my tablets, drank dioralyte to keep my hydrated and had the odd cry into the toilet 😂. It was really rough, but at least it's less bad now. I have to admit though that if gotten out of all the habits, so when the sickness came back out of nowhere I was floored all over again for a couple of weeks. I definitely had days early on where I questioned whether I could do this, and I honestly don't know if I could cope with another pregnancy like this if we decided to have another child. But my husband very sensibly pointed out when I mentioned it that the most important thing is focusing on getting this goblin here safely

TJ88123 · 12/05/2020 07:57

@MOGMOGMOG85 I'm finding that with water too - i normally drink loads of it but last week all I could taste were chemicals. Even got DH to try my glass of water and he said it was fine Confused lol so I'm having loads of squash instead!
Hopefully it's a good sign!

Knotemma · 12/05/2020 09:40

@TJ88123 I tried filtered water and could just taste different chemicals 😂 even though I know exactly what's in our water (I actually work for the water company and have witnessed the treatment first hand). It was very strange, but having some flavour definitely helped. The taste thing is less of an issue for me now, at some point over the last couple of weeks the metallic/pennies taste finally went away. I think my issue is more that I'll drink a glass of water in one gulp. My granddad used to say he wasn't taking me drinking when I was old enough because I just down everything, always have 🤷‍♀️

MrsG3 · 12/05/2020 12:03

Hi ladies, just dropping in to say our 12 week scan went well 😀 baby is measuring at 13+1 so due date is 16/11. Also our harmony test results all came back ok and we found out we're having a...girl 💕 so relieved she's healthy and wiggling about!

Knotemma · 12/05/2020 12:15

@MrsG3 that's brilliant news! So many girls on our thread 😍

Whiffle77 · 12/05/2020 12:32

Another baby girl! How exciting! So pleased you had a good experience @MrsG3

AnxiousLady1 · 12/05/2020 12:33

@MrsG3 Fantastic news!! Congratualtions on your baby girl!

SunStruck · 12/05/2020 15:02

@MrsG3 congratulations on your girl!! ❤️

Haha I'm an the only one on this thread having a boy so far 🤣 hopefully someone will join Team Blue soon! 💙

Thanks for all the info about what's happening on this 20 week scan ladies, my scan is tomorrow at 9 am! 😅

MrsG3 · 12/05/2020 15:22

Thanks ladies 😊 good luck for tomorrow @SunStruck 🤞🏻

It's definitely been a lovely positive few days 💕

tmc14 · 12/05/2020 15:34

Lovely news on the scan @MrsG3 ha I remember when I had my son, everyone was having boys... I know the numbers have to even out but it does feel weird when it seems really skewed!

Has anyone started thinking about names yet? I had a little look at the ons data... jeez it’s hard! Didn’t feel very inspired, hopefully that will change as time goes on...

MrsG3 · 12/05/2020 15:36

@tmc14 funnily enough when I had my son 6 years ago we were all having boys and only 1 girl! It's funny how it works out!

We love Ava Grace 💕

Vicola · 12/05/2020 15:42

@MOGMOGMOG85 I'm the same stage as you with the nausea and it is crap. I bought some gorgeous none alcoholic spirits at the start - can't even look at them now. I got prescribed a travel sickness tablet that is safe in pregnancy. I've found it really works for me if it's bad although I'm not going to lie, you do spend the day slightly stoned. They aren't non drowsy.

Congratulations to everyone on your scans this week, they have been lovely to see!

Does anyone have any top tips for decreasing bloating? I'm on cyclogest pessaries so have even more progesterone than normal kicking about and I look about 5 months gone not 9 and a bit weeks. It is so uncomfortable.

Knotemma · 12/05/2020 15:54

Isn't it funny how things end up seeming skewed! I'm sure over time we'll get some more boys and maybe some other team greens like me 😂.

We've had little chats about names, there are a couple we both like, but we haven't sat down and talked about it properly. I can't get my head around picking a name before ive met them, and obviously we have to plan for boy or girl so that's an extra challenge 😂

In other news I've noticed that the goblin very much likes the sound of its dad's voice. He's managed to feel a few more kicks, can't believe I've only been feeling movement for just over a week, it already seems like part of the daily routine!

Whiffle77 · 12/05/2020 15:59

When we had the first round of everyone I know having kids, they were ALL girls, it's so weird how it goes!
I think we are going to have a surprise, I think my husband would like to know but I would like a surprise I think...
That's really sweet @knotemma and must make your partner feel really great! I've dared to start reading my pregnancy book again and they say they can recognise sounds very early on

bananamuffin99 · 12/05/2020 16:15

I hope everyone is doing ok, I've missed quite a few posts!

I had a 16 week app last week with the consultant, heard little girls heartbeat and had another scan, all looks well Smile

Has anyone thought about baby names? When we found out we were having a girl we spent maybe 2 hours throwing names back and forth, I suggested a name I wasn't even sure DH would like but he did! Then a few minutes later I said I loved it and he did too, so as quick as that she was named and we call her by name. We've decided to not tell anyone though, it isn't a made up or weird name but it's not common at all and we don't want to listen to anyone's opinion or potential negativity tbh!

I've also got the threat of redundancy potentially looming over my head sadly, my company wants to get rid of about 30% of workforce and keep the remaining on lower pay etc Sad So this is definitely a stress I could do without. I will just have to hope I am one of the 'lucky' ones.

AnxiousLady1 · 12/05/2020 16:50

My DH downloaded an app for making baby name picking a little more fun. You both get it and connect to each other's phones. It works a bit like Tinder. Swipe left if you like it, right if you don't. And if you both happen to swipe on the same name it's a match! We matched on quite a few girls names, and only 2 boys names so far. I'm suprised how many we matched on tbh. I was worried we would have wildly different ideas about names!

I sat down earlier and started a spreadsheet of things that need to be bought, and an outline budget. I won't start shopping for anything until after 20 weeks, but I do love a spreadsheet.

@Knotemma I was reading a little on the cloth nappy systems earlier and struggling to get my head around it! I know you've mentioned buying some already. I took the Nappy Lady questionnaire and there is still a lot to consider. On one hand I thought maybe use disposables for first month. Then I thought go straight to cloth if possible. But then there's the 'sized' nappies vs the birth to potty ones. So much to consider! Ultimately, quick drying will be a big factor for us as we don't have a tumble dryer, so 20 nappies drying around the house in winter won't be ideal...

@SunStruck Best of luck with your scan tomorrow morning! x

tmc14 · 12/05/2020 17:09

@MrsG3 beautiful name x
@bananamuffin99 well done on choosing a name already! We didn’t decide on DS name until he was 10 days old, we’re very indecisive!!

@anxiouslady1 I use cloth nappies with my son. I found the choice mind blowing at first. Do you have a nappy library near you? We borrowed a bag of nappies, all different types, and had a practice before buying. I like Tots Bots peanut system, they fit my son well and I find them easy. Most of mine are second hand (you strip & sanitise them when you get them), which can help if you don’t want to buy straight away. I’ve spent about £50 in total and been using them 2.5 years. Some councils also do vouchers for new ones. It’s not as complicated as it looks I promise!

tmc14 · 12/05/2020 17:11

@AnxiousLady1 also, we don’t have a tumble drier but do have a heated drier from Lakeland which is amazing for the inserts! You’re not supposed to dry the plastic covers on direct heat so that might narrow it down for you, as you can do inserts on heated drier/radiator and covers on normal drier

AnxiousLady1 · 12/05/2020 17:20

@tmc14 There is a thing called Nappy Libraries??? I have so much to learn!! Thanks for the tip on the drier. Definitely will look into that.

I think it's something that is probably difficult to buy a whole system beforehand as you don't know how big or small baby might be or whether it will be for them. That's partly why I questioned whether disposables would be necessary for the first few weeks? Unless there is a cloth option that is likely to fit different size newborns. Ideally I'd like to be as prepared as I could be (appreciate it's not always that straightforward).

tmc14 · 12/05/2020 17:26

@AnxiousLady1 haha, well, our area has one, I’m not sure if they’re everywhere! It was invaluable. In terms of from birth, I guess it depends on the size of your baby. We used a mixture of disposables & the library nappies for the first 6 weeks, but my little chunkster was 9lb 4oz so fitted birth to potty ones from early on. I didn’t want to spend money on newborn cloth nappies (sorry environment). I’ll get a couple of packs of disposables for this one, and see how big she is. I try & buy the more environmentally friendly disposables when I use them. I’m very much of the idea that I’ll do my best to be environmentally friendly but I’m definitely not perfect.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 12/05/2020 17:41

@TJ88123 me too on the water, I practically screamed and called my other half in to taste it and he said it was fine. I thought there was something horribly wrong with the tap!

@MrsG3 congratulations that's great news! I'm curious how did they know it was a girl - I thought you got that info later?

@bananamuffin99 I really want to know your name now haha! I think it's lovely that you're already using it

MOGMOGMOG85 · 12/05/2020 17:50

Also is anyone else suffering with itchy skin? I'm super itchy, mainly on my abdomen and legs.. I even left a huge bruise on my left hip (I think I'm bruising a little easier too) :(
