How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

We ordered the ocarro 5 piece bundle with the cybex car seat at the baby show in Feb, plus added the footmuff @JMill13. It has arrived, we haven't put it up yet but had a peak and it looks lovely, really impressed with the car seat too! The offers are good.
Agree the links are rubbish.
I watched the first aid talk yesterday which was really useful.

WorriedButterfly · 17/05/2020 09:33

@squashie34 - I only started yesterday but going to carry on reading it for sure, I just find it refreshing to have a consolidated view, I also think it is good for a starting point, my sister always dips into it as a reference even if she hasn't followed it by the letter. I saw one lady at the show briefly who was saying how important routine is and that a lot of people think it's restrictive and you can't go out etc, however her view was if you have a routine it makes it easier to transfer to different environments which again I found interesting! I haven't got to the different types of milk - sounds like I have a lot to learn! x

JMill13 · 17/05/2020 09:39

I've never heard of it/her what's controversial about her?

Ooh thanks ladies, will hopefully get on a purchase the ocarro today then. Its so hard knowing how nice something actually is just by photos. Thankfully the one in the baby show includes car seat. Hopefully it's still available and the links actually work today. Seems a bit silly that they count the drinks cup as a separate item.

Managed to get a few things yesterday though so I feel a lot more calm about being prepared.

squashie34 · 17/05/2020 10:12

@WorriedButterfly I'm definitely going to give it a go as that's one thing I think has concerned me, the lack of having no control over anything each day and just being led by little miss, so I think for me and my OH a routine and structure would be great for us (I live by to do lists etc!) I like how it tells you on the plan what time to eat and shower in the routine so you don't forget 😂 I'm just unsure after reading the newborn routine whether you start with trying the 3 hour feeding straight away, or whether you do the demand feeding until they've regained their birth weight.

@JMill13 I think it's been controversial because it's so structured and people have said that it's unfair on babies to be pushed into a routine - you can find a lot of older threads about it on here as I searched 🤭 and apparently (haven't got to this bit yet) she suggests giving the baby no eye contact or playing with them when they wake at night so they are aware it's food time only then back to sleep, and also to strip them down of layers so they are completely awake when they night feed which means they will take more milk and therefore sleep for longer (also waking them up from naps to ensure the 3hour feed happens). Which to some people is cruel. Although to be honest, if it means she gets into a sleep routine quicker I'm going to at least try!

cannotmakemymindup · 17/05/2020 10:38

I will just add to make sure you don't pressure yourselves into the routine suggested. You may find a different one works for you and your family at the end of the day.

I found with my daughter we had our own routine which didn't follow any books or what my sister thought we should do but it meant my first slept through from 8 weeks old. Yes we fed a lot during the day when she wasn't having long naps but oh I took that as a plus to a whole nights sleep. I know I may not get that again this time but I live in hope!!

squashie34 · 17/05/2020 10:57

@cannotmakemymindup oh now that would be the dream! You should share your secrets and make some money 🤭😅

cannotmakemymindup · 17/05/2020 11:06

@squashie34 Hahaha trust me no secret I literally just did demand feeding which honestly meant during the day if it wasn't nap time, feeding every hour Shock. However that worked for us. I did still feed out and about etc,.

The only thing I'll say is definitely partly how long they feed is how big or small the baby is. Smaller babies have a smaller stomach and larger babies bigger so it all depends on how much they can feed in a go. My daughter was 8Ilbs 7 at birth (2 weeks late) so I'm aware this time could be completely different, if they're born on time and smaller.

Hi ladies hope you are all well today. I just listened into a talk on the baby show live and this is a great link for a birth plan and shopping lists:

Hope it helps! X

2020Aug · 17/05/2020 14:11

Hey, how is everyone feeling?
I've noticed my baby seems to react to sounds quite a bit now, especially when we watch a film with lots of loud noises - we've been re watching marvel and star wars films and they seem to kick when there's a fight scene.
My baby has been a bit quiet today so my husband just played a clip of star wars on his phone and my baby started kicking 😂, my husband is very happy as he is star wars mad 😂.

Oldestchild90s · 17/05/2020 14:50

Thanks for the link @StephD2020 👍🏻😌
@2020Aug So you have a mini star wars fan in the making? 😎 good to hear about babies reactions! I'm a little down today, i just go through these stages where i'm sad about things and how i look, nothing fits, i'm very irritable (my poor other half) but then i laid on my bed and watched her kick and it brought the biggest smile to my face ❤️ how are you feeling?

mable88 · 17/05/2020 15:24

Ahhh @2020Aug my husband would love it if our baby responded to Star Wars, he’s a massive fan too 😂

@Oldestchild90s sorry you’re feeling a bit rubbish today Flowers I know what you mean about watching baby though, it’s my new obsession now she’s big enough to be seen - I spend ages staring at my stomach waiting for her to start moving!

JMill13 · 17/05/2020 15:25

I had a proper wobbly morning. Think my hormones are going crazy. Every thing OH did or said was irritating the life out of me and making me grumpy. It's our dog 5th birthday (first with us though) so I had bought her presents and got annoyed cause she was excited about ripping the wrapping paper, OH was joining in though so I think that stopped her excitement. He took himself upstairs, not talking to me solely because he was grumpy, and I stood and cried 😂 I still don't understand pregnancy hormones. I'm not a crier at all but recently the tiniest things have been setting me off. All is well now pup has had her presents, excitedly ripped open the paper, other half joined in and neither of us are being grumpy a-holes 😂😂

Clothes not fitting is a big one at the minute. I can't find much maternity clothes that I actually like as I have a very set style and its been driving me insane. I always struggle to find nice summer clothes though. I'm just too fussy and not a girly girl... Doesn't stop me getting angry at the clothes I do own though. My bump is still quite small though and a lot of the size is bloat by a certain point in the day.

But on a plus I'm about to order our pram set so I'm excited for that. Have ended up going for a 6 piece ocarro set that's not from the baby show but same website.

Hope all you ladies are having a good day!

Newmama29 · 17/05/2020 17:21

I’m just wondering if the exhaustion I feel is normal? I’m easily sleeping between 9-12 hours a night & due to lockdown my days aren’t exactly full of activity, but I still find myself sneaking upstairs in the afternoon to have an hour or so nap with DP who works night shift! I’m finding doing any cleaning or activity in the house I have to do in installments as I just get too out of breath & tired to do too much at the one time. Is this normal? I’m 25 weeks so I’m not massive in terms of bump size, starting to feel concerned there’s something wrong with me!

squashie34 · 17/05/2020 17:40

@JMill13 I totally feel you with the pregnancy hormones, what on Earth are they all about 😂😂 I absolutely sobbed like a baby on Friday night out of nowhere, the look of horror on my partners face as he thought something serious was wrong and I just said I'm crying because I feel so not in control of my body.. as in a full on ugly girl cry 🙄!! So exciting you're ordering your pram set, what colour ocarro are you going for?! I'm so excited to use it, I love it!

@Newmama29 im exactly the same- out of breath changing the bed and walking up the stairs, as in heart racing and puffing and panting- it's totally normal, the baby is pushing on your diaphragm and squashing lungs - have you even googled an imagine of how your organs move to make way for baby? If not have a little look as it will show you why you feel like that! As for the sleeping, sometimes doing not a lot makes you more tired and your body is growing another human, I say make the most of the 12 hours a night whilst you can! Wouldn't think it's anything to worry about xx

Newmama29 · 17/05/2020 17:52

@squashie34 thank you for the reassurance! I knew the breathlessness wasn’t too strange, on top of that I have hay fever which also makes me breathless, it was just coupled with the sheer exhaustion that started to get me thinking haha!! I think the constant having nothing to do also makes you just sit & worry about everything!

JMill13 · 17/05/2020 18:16

@squashie34 Hahaha its mad that isn't it? One minute you're fine next thing you ugly crying over a bit of water spilling (or something equally as stupid). Crazy.
I've gone for the black diamond, so all black with gold accents. Was going to get raven which is all black but it was more expensive.

@newmama29 I've been similar. Especially on weekends. I slept from half 10 last night to 9am today only getting up a handful of times to pee through the night. I was putting my tiredness down to not sleeping much at night to needing that lunch time nap but now after last night I'm not so sure. Already counting down the minutes to bedtime. Although not at the same time cause although it's WFH I really don't wanna go to work tomorrow 😂😣

Newmama29 · 17/05/2020 18:27

@JMill13 I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling this way, I’ll just embrace the sleep whilst I can get it!!
I’m also on the hormone bus as well 🙈 as someone who never cries or shows emotions I’m struggling with the crying all the time lol. I cry when my DP goes to work, I cry when I watch someone happy/sad on tv, I cry because of how cute my dog looks, it’s becoming too much 😂

JMill13 · 17/05/2020 18:40

@newmama29 hahah omg I only laugh because I'm exactly the same. This was the first week in ages I haven't cried at BGT 😂🙈. Crying at random people's stories on Facebook, the dog cuddling in to me or just looking really cute. And then crying because I'm crying and I hate crying. It's actually quite funny.

ml01omm · 17/05/2020 18:48

Hi everyone

Dipping back into this thread after ages, life got in the way.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Just wondering? How much of the expensive stuff have you all bought?

So far, we've bought the travel system, as DH found a pretty good bundle deal. But he has fallen down a baby show discount internet hole, and is now excitedly wanting to purchase the SnuzPod and the perfect prep.

I am bit nervous ( and irrational most likely!) about spending so much on the big ticket items, when I still have a way to go ( 27 + 4) and stuff could still go wrong.

Am I being crazy?

StephD2020 · 17/05/2020 18:53

@Newmama29 OMFG the breathlessness is soooo real!!! Have to sit on my birthing ball after I've had my shreddies and coffee in the morning to give my lungs chance to cope with the change 🤣 I would say it's the only side effect I've had so far but oh my, I cannot WAIT for it to do one.

@JMill13 I'm also all over the show with preggo hormones. Could have literally beat DH to death last night. Coupled with feeling MASSIVE I'm having to try very hard to keep it all together!

"And then crying because I'm crying and I hate crying." This is the funniest thing I've read all day (and I mean that in the nicest possible way of course! 🤣 I know exactly how you feel!!!). X

StephD2020 · 17/05/2020 18:56

@ml01omm I would say go for it!! We've bought absolutely everything now and I'm only 29 weeks. It's one of the few joys you still have in your life right now and if DH is also on board then defo seize the opportunity! X

2020Aug · 17/05/2020 18:56

@ml01omm I'm also 27+4 and have bought most the big items. I originally didn't want to buy anything until 28 weeks but with the way things are at the moment and long delivery dates, we have just gone for it and hoping everything is ok.

@Newmama29 I'm feeling exhausted too and getting so out of breath. I'm noticing I'm slower on our daily walks now!

Hope you're feeling better @jmill13, good choice on the ocarro! I agree with maternity clothes seems hard to come by, I was just trying to find a pair of leggings as I'm at home all the time and so many places are out of stock!

StephD2020 · 17/05/2020 19:12

@2020Aug www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/leggings/maternity-black-jersey-leggings/p/626817501?comp=Browse

These leggings are amazing and I think you get two pairs for £15 - can thoroughly recommend (and looks like most sizes are in stock too!) x

Newmama29 · 17/05/2020 19:44

I’m so glad I’m not the only one going crazy haha!!
We’ve also ordered the majority of our big purchases just due to long delivery times etc. Plus it’s the highlight of my weeks getting deliveries!

JMill13 · 17/05/2020 19:46

@stephd2020 😂😂 our poor partners. I just telling mine that its his fault haha. Glad I could bring a laugh though 🙈😂

@2020Aug I managed to get some maternity clothes from Boohoo and ASOS, Although, ASOS took weeks to deliver. I hope I got a good deal on the pram set. Feel bad cause mum paid but I shopped about and feel like under £700 for a 6 piece set can't be that bad.
