How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

@StephD2020 @2020Aug Thank you for the reassurance. I was just having a wobble. As a FTM we need to buy everything from scratch, and none of our friends have come forward to offer to lend or donate anything ( not that we expect them to, nor would we ask) so it feels a little bit like bleeding money at the moment. I think I added up we'll be at about £3k by the time absolutely everything is bought. Have instructed DH to pull the trigger on Snuzpod - every discount helps.

@Newmama29 I am also suffering with the breathlessness. It feels crazy to be so out of breath doing so little. Really hoping too that it all just snaps back post birth.

@JMill13 can't comment on the Ocarro, but we bought a similar bundle on the Flip XT ( the lighter weight version of the ocarro) and we were really pleased with it. Seems really nice, if anything I think the Ocarro is a slightly higher spec too - so should turn out to be lovely.

squashie34 · 17/05/2020 20:21

@ml01omm I know that you mean- as selfish as it is to say without baby showers and seeing family etc we've assumed we really won't be getting much in the way of baby gifts etc so thought it's just been best to buy everything so we definitely have it, but as a FTM its so damn expensive! We had to buy the postman a box of chocolates to say thank you as I think he's getting annoyed at having to deliver a parcel here every day pretty much 😅

On another note, I'm just sat packing my hospital bag and I'm trying to put an outfit in each food food bag so I know it's all together- I've got 3 newborn, 1 up to one month, 2 up to 7lb, and one up to 6lb outfit.. is that enough or do I need more? With the cholestatis I could be induced anytime from 36-37 weeks so felt I needed a variety of sizes I have no idea what size she will be by then! 🤷‍♀️ how much is everyone else packing?

Oldestchild90s · 17/05/2020 20:35

I need to admit stupidity here.. without being offensive (nothing intended here) the whole time people have been saying FTM i've been thinking Female to Male, and was thinking blimey theres a lot of them on here (once again no offence intended) but it means First time mum doesn't it..

Taken me this long to work out 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😳😳

JMill13 · 17/05/2020 20:48

@ml01omm Every pram set I looked at all look the same to me. I feel completely out of my depth, so hopefully have made an okay choice in the end. My friend has an Oyster and loves it. Due to covid lockdown crap, they people that have said they have stuff to give us, haven't been able to get the stuff to us so I have absolutely no idea what we're getting so I just thought this week to eff it and get whatever I see/ want/think we need. I still have a next2me to order and a whole nursery but that'll have to wait until pay day for now. OHs mum keeps saying don't buy to much especially clothes 'cause everyone will buy to stuff once baby is here and we all know the sex but the thought of waiting and then getting very little scares me too much. I don't want to have to go mad shopping while attempting to look after a newborn. Doesn't help that the boyfriend is leaving it all up to me to pick and choose everything.

@Oldestchild90s OMG this has just made me laugh so so much hahaha, FTM is about the only abbreviation I've managed to work out so far. I'm on August2020 Bumpers subreddit and a follow a pregnancy one and some of the things people say have me scratching my head for days. Have to has OH a lot of them sometimes.

squashie34 · 17/05/2020 20:53

@Oldestchild90s 😂😂😂😂 this has made my evening haha...

mable88 · 17/05/2020 21:11

My husband seems to be dragging his heels over buying the travel system which is starting to irritate me! I’ve found a bundle that I think looks great and my parents have offered to pay for it so alllll he has to do is look at the link and perhaps a couple of reviews which he said he’d do today and he’s still not done it Angry

On the plus side, my best friend has gifted us her snuz pod and sooooo many clothes - her husband very kindly dropped them off for us froend so I now have a crib in my lounge and it makes me slightly panic every time I see it Confused and I don’t think I will need to buy any clothes after baby is into size 3-6 months as my friend has been so generous! Now just need to buy some nursery furniture so I have somewhere to put it all! Smile

Newmama29 · 17/05/2020 21:16

@ml01omm look at online4baby.com for the snuzpod, I got a great deal on it! Plus I googled discount codes & got a further 5% off, every little helps xx

ml01omm · 17/05/2020 21:20

@JMill13 same here. In non-covid times, I'd have gone to mamas and pappas, pramworld, and John Lewis and taken a load in-buget ones for a "test drive" around the shop and picked that way. As it was, got recommendations from Friends, combined with what we thought would work for me being able to collapse/put-up single handedly and what would size wise fit in the tiny boot of my car. Complete shot in the dark, but having done a lap round our garden with a teddy bear strapped in, it seems okay! We were told the same re: "oh you'll get given loads of stuff, don't buy it all". But given we are struggling to find onesies and sleepsuits etc I doubt friends will have the time to trawl websites to find places with available gift stock.

@Squashie34 We are the last of our friendship group to have kids, hence everyone is a bit over it now and all dealing with toddlers and lockdown. Which is why we are going with the buy it all ourselves approach. The only odd thing is that this is a first and likely only Grandchild on both sides, and neither set of Parents have mentioned anything about if they are planning on buying anything ( again not that we expect them to)

re: hospital bag - my thoughts were to take some Up to 1 month ( aka up to 9 or 10 lb) stuff. As figure that if the baby is around average size of 7-8lbs, then it might be a bit big (but can roll back sleeves), but better than discovering that I end up having a whopper and newborn is suddenly too small.

Bert2020 · 17/05/2020 21:26

Baby stuff is so cute it’s hard to resist buying so um I buy. This is dc2 but 1st is a girl and 2nd boy and even though everything we have is neutral for the first 6 months other than gifts I still can’t stop. The way I see it, if you get a discount then I’m the long term you are saving.
With packing and preparing my one piece of advice is to teach your partner what things are called! I had some suspect outfits brought in for me in hospital and he took a while to get on my wavelength for baby items. @squashie34 your food bag idea is a great one!

cannotmakemymindup · 17/05/2020 21:29

@Oldestchild90s that made me Lol.

Ah pregnancy emotions are fun. I definitely snap at my husband and then act like nothing happened as I am a little guilty that I got so frustrated at him. I get annoyed at him for sleeping all night, snoring so loud and when I am really unlucky he sleeps diagonally in bed. I just want space!!

cannotmakemymindup · 17/05/2020 21:33

@ml01omm definitely a great idea for packing hospital bag. I had packed both sizes and my daughter never fitted in the first size baby clothes as she was big and really long. Actually gave those ones away to a lady on the ward who'd had her son early so didn't have anything that small and washed yet.

JMill13 · 17/05/2020 21:58

@ml01omm exactly. There is no way friends and family are going to sit for days trying to find sizes, unless there is some miracle happens and all shops are magically back in stock with everything.

Has anyone claim their free baby packs with Emma's diary/Bounty from Asda/Tescos?

@cannotmakemymindup glad I'm not the only one that gets pissed at night when OH snores or decides to attempt to take up the whole bed. Although now that I'm starting to get bigger, I have the pregnancy pillow in bed with us which takes up the majority of the room, so now he gets to suffer a bit. Although I get pissed and act like nothing happened but he gets pissed back and goes into a grump which irrationally pisses me off again at the minute, it's all fun and games

Something20 · 18/05/2020 16:00

Hi :) I used mumsnet when TTC and I'm due my little girl the 18th of August and just found this thread. Hope everyone is well and having easy pregnancies! 🤞🏼xxx

JMill13 · 19/05/2020 11:38

Morning ladies.

This is most likely going to sound really random but as fathers day is next month (I know its a full month away but I want to be prepared), I was wondering if anyone is getting their partners anything from bump? Only because my Oh got me flowers, a lush bath bomb and a card for Mother's day I would like to return the favour but have no idea what to get. He wouldn't appreciate flowers or anything like that. Any ideas?

JMill13 · 19/05/2020 11:39

Also congrats @something20 and welcome 😊

squashie34 · 19/05/2020 12:20

@JMill13 yes I'm going to just get my other half a card, some beers and then a babygrow which says something about loving daddy etc! I Hurd it's more the thought that counts right. Not on the high street has some great ideas ☺️

squashie34 · 19/05/2020 12:21

'Think* not I Hurd' 😂

mable88 · 19/05/2020 12:41

@JMill13 I’m not sure. On the one hand, I didn’t get anything for Mother’s Day 😂 but then again I’m much further along now and all is well so
I might get him a card or something little.

heroineinahalfshell · 19/05/2020 12:49

I'm getting him nothing, since I got nothing on Mother's day (but also, I didn't expect anything & I don't think he does either). But also because it's our anniversary this weekend and his birthday in June, so he's getting plenty of gifts, and I might get him something dad-related for his birthday. All cards will be signed from me and the bump.

Hey all, hope you're ok today!

I've already bought a card that i suppose is borderline cringey, but then again each to their own i personally think it's cute to buy things from bump but i know a lot would disagree 🤪

Congrats @Something20 😊

JMill13 · 19/05/2020 13:47

I didn't think I was getting anything on Mother's day either, still made me cry (hormones🙄) so I think its just nice to give him something too. Especially at the minute 'cause he doesn't feel involved really at all. Doesn't feel real to me half the time so I can only imagine what it must be like for him.

@squashie34 ooh good plan. I forgot about not on the high street. Will check it out, have to get my dad something too so that actually a really good idea, thank you!

@heroineinahalfshell bloody love your username BTW 😂. Definitely sounds like he's getting plenty in the next month.

StephD2020 · 19/05/2020 13:48

Hi ladies!!

@JMill13 yup got my bounty pack from Tesco. Wasn't anything to get unduly excited about but there was a free pack of newborn nappies in there which I am happy to accept!

I've just bought my DH a card and a coaster from notonthehighstreet - not sure why as even with notice he got me sweet FA for Mother's Day!

Welcome @Something20 another girl to add to the mix 🥰

I had my 28 weeks appt yesterday and feel much better about things. Midwife was lovely and she is putting me forward to the home birth team so that when they come back online I'll be top of the queue (she is hopeful that I'll be able to have one). She's also going to try and see me throughout the rest of my pregnancy so 🤞🏻it all gets a bit better from hereon in! X

JMill13 · 19/05/2020 14:08

@stephd2020 ah so not overly worth heading to tesco for then? I wasn't sure if they'd let Oh or my dad pick it up for me anyway.

So glad to hear everything went well at your appointment. Fingers crossed that's you on the road to getting the care and attention you need and the home birth that you want. Has your partner come round to the idea?

Superscientist · 19/05/2020 14:13

I'm glad you have had a positive midwife appointment @StephD2020! Seeing the same midwife does help, I had a different one at my 25 week check because of my regular one was on annual leave and I'm counting down the days till my 28 week check next week because of questions I didn't ask last time!

I had completely forgotten about father's Day!! I probably won't do a gift or card but I might plan a treat for my partner as he's been doing a lot to take care of me for the last 6 months!
