How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

First time mum here, due August 13th and found out we're having a baby girl.

I had my 20 week scan last week (went alone - it was fine) and baby was spinning around all over the place so I've got to go back again in a couple of weeks as they couldn't get a couple of the necessary measurements! I also found out I have a high anterior placenta which explains why I've felt no movement yet even though she's always super active on scans.

Babyshine2020 · 03/04/2020 09:37

@sel2223 my placenta is also anterior (but very low and I need to go back at 34 weeks to see if it's moved/I can have a vaginal birth) but I started feeling baby move last week which was 20+6 and I've felt them every day since. No pattern yet, apart from baby loves to wait until I need a wee!

I hope you feel them soon

BCA23 · 03/04/2020 10:58

@sel2223 my placenta is also high anterior and also a first time mum, I've also not felt any movements from baby yet and I'm 20 +5 today. I know baby is a wiggly little one from my 2 scans, but I can't wait to start feeling the movements!!
@Babyshine2020 hopefully they'll get the measurements at you next scan. A couple of mine they almost didn't get because baby was either moving too much or in an awkward position.

SpimblesDimbles · 03/04/2020 13:15

Hi Everyone!

I am due our 1st baby 28th August and have our 20 week scan booked for 9th April. Like many others, I have been told that my partner can't come to the scan with me, but I understand why this is in place and know it's for the best. We had a private scan around 16 weeks where we listened to the heartbeat and saw some good images, we will be booking another though with a private clinic once the lockdown is lifted.

I need to book in to see my Midwife at the GP Surgery around 24 weeks I think, this will be for a routine appointment and also my Whooping Cough vaccine but unable to book this at the moment because the surgery is only allowing appointments a couple of weeks in advance.

I'm slightly worried about how my antenatal care is going to go, I just don't want the Midwives to be under too much pressure with everything that it means they forget to check for anything! As this is my first baby, I don't know what they should or shouldn't be doing and feel a tad out my depth - my best friend is a Midwife however so I have her to talk to about my concerns, which does reassure me. Praying that all of this is much calmer by the time baby makes their appearance, I can't bear the thought of Grandparents not being able to visit and give cuddles, it breaks my heart.

With regards to what we have bought - we have the Travel System and have just today ordered the Bedside Crib. I bought these from Winstanleys Pramworld, they are based in Wigan and Stoke but do have an online website if anyone wants to look. I saw both the Pram and Crib when we had a personal shopping experience on the 29th Feb, so luckily I know exactly what we have. I'm not too bothered about making sure we have the nursery furniture (as long as the decoration is done) because baby will be in with us for the first 3-6months, so we have time to sort this out. We're not finding out the sex so I am limited to buying very neutral things, and definitely have enough for the 1st couple of months at the moment! Just struggling to find white cotton hats and white cotton booties, M&S and John Lewis have both sold out!

Glad we are all in this together and can keep each other positive! xxxx

sel2223 · 03/04/2020 18:13

@Babyshine2020 oh, I didn't realise it could affect whether or not you can have a vaginal birth or not! Is that because it's low so partially covering the cervix? Hopefully it's moved by the time you get to 34 weeks.

@BCA23 sounds like we are both in the exact same position. I'm 21+1 today and just desperate to feel something! I'm so impatient.

toastandmoretoast · 03/04/2020 18:46

Hi I'm due on August 16th Smile I'm having a boy. This week I realised the feelings I was getting last week were movements and they're getting stronger now- quite exciting! Had 20 week scan earlier this week which all went well thankfully. Except the fact that I had to jump up and down, jog on the spot and do star jumps for him still not to get in the right position lol! Then had to go off and get my whooping cough jab and was told to eat a chocolate bar and come back. Finally he moved after that lol!

mable88 · 03/04/2020 19:02

Hi ladies - another first time mummy here, 20+2, due 19th August with a little girl. I am starting to get anxious about my 20 week scan (next Wednesday, when I will be 21 weeks) - not really sure why I am nervous, I think the fact that hubby isn't allowed in with me isn't helping (as PPs have said it's totally understandable of course in the current situation, just feel really sad about it) and also that baby isn't moving particularly regularly at the moment. Reading up on this, I think this is fairly normal and I have had some definite movements over the last couple of weeks but then I also have days where I don't really feel her much, if at all. Is this normal in other people's experience?

Nfblues · 03/04/2020 21:58

@mable88 It’s perfectly normal, especially for a first baby. I’m 21+1 and don’t really feel anything yet, occasionally a little niggle quite low down. I have a high anterior placenta and before my 20 week scan I was worried about this, but saw baby girl moving loads. The sonographer told me to appreciate the peace whilst I have it because she was so wriggly!

mable88 · 03/04/2020 22:59

@Nfblues thank you, that’s reassuring to hear! Little madam has had a little wriggle this evening so I’m feeling a bit better now Smile

Crackerscheesescabbyknees · 03/04/2020 23:45

Yay so happy this thread has appeared :D

25 August here. Not done any bloody shopping and now panicking that there will be nothing but empty shelves 😭

Luna321 · 04/04/2020 10:43

Hi, I'm due 22nd Aug with my 2nd. We are having a surprise this time. Have my scan on Tuesday and very excited. It's a shame my husband will miss out but I'm hoping they'll do some extra pictures for us. With my first I didn't feel movements till 20 weeks so that's totally normal.

Bellsx · 04/04/2020 10:59

Hi ladies it's nice to hear from people who are due around the same time, I'm due 20th August with a little boy. I had my 20 week scan yesterday and had to go on my own, it was hard but everyone was so lovely and explained everything whilst taking the necessary precautions of wearing masks, gloves and keeping the social distancing rules. Once you see your baby on that screen and see it wriggling around (mine is definitely a wriggler and a little tinker as the sonogropher had a bit of trouble getting all the measurements but we got there in the end after a bit of jumping up and down and shaking my hips thank goodness) and leave with lot's of lovely pics to share with your partner and family it makes it all worthwhile and understandable. Now we've got past this milestone I was so looking forward to going out to start buying things and thinking about decorating the nursery but all that's been taken away from us which is so upsetting as it should be a time when you can start to enjoy your pregnancy, hopefully if everyone carries on following the government guidelines and advice then we will be able to get out of this awful situation sooner rather than later.

WorriedButterfly · 04/04/2020 11:00

Another first timer here - due 20th August. 20 week scan is on Monday and I've spiralled into anxiousness. I keep thinking something is wrong, then think of how grim it will be if something is wrong-especially having to do it all alone. I feel fine and I find this really disconcerting, I wish I could just allow myself to enjoy it! I haven't bought anything- so much has sold out but I feel quite laid back about it, we still have a long time to go. Really glad to have found this thread! I'm going to try and busy myself and then enjoy a few hours in the sun! x

Jeca8 · 04/04/2020 13:42

Ooh a few with the same due date as me!
I’m due the 28th august with my first.

We have our 20 week scan on the 10th April... not had any notification I need to attend alone though. How did others hear about this did you get a letter or call?

mable88 · 04/04/2020 14:49

@Jeca8 I found out via my hospital’s Facebook page, they posted a leaflet about changes to the maternity services. It was also put on the hospital website, so I’d suggest checking there. I haven’t had any direct contact telling me I have to go alone and I wouldn’t expect them to contact everyone to say that, so it’s probably worth checking online or ringing them up if you can’t find the info you need. Smile

sel2223 · 04/04/2020 15:14

@Jeca8 same as PP, it was on my hospitals Facebook, I wasn't contacted directly.
It's a national directive so think it's standard everywhere now.

Beau2020 · 04/04/2020 15:19

I'm due August 4th with first baby girl! Very exciting times & ive started buying lots now. We have all the clothes as family kindly donated. Just bought a travel system, chair, Moses basket, prep machine, Muslins, bibs, changing mat, baby bath. Xx

Babyshine2020 · 04/04/2020 18:56

@sel2223 yes at the moment! The placenta is anterior (but that doesn't make much of a difference) but currently my cervix is blocked but there's a change that as baby and uterus grows that it'll shift, as king as the placenta moves 2cm away from the cervix I'll be able to have a vaginal birth. The thought of a section scares the hell out of me!

Lolxx · 04/04/2020 20:12

I’m also due 28th august with a baby boy 💙 so glad to see this post as I’ve been feeling more & more anxious during this lockdown! I am due to have my 20 week scan in the next week & so far haven’t been told not to bring my partner, praying he can come as he hadn’t been able to attend any of my other NHS appointments due to work! I am also curious to see what everyone is buying as I feel I have so much time to sit & roam the internet for stuff but unable to make any decisions without seeing stuff in person 😭

sel2223 · 04/04/2020 20:17

@Lolxx I would check before you go for your scan as it's a national directive so I think all hospitals will be the same now. I was never contacted directly but saw the information on the hospitals Facebook page and there was also an automated message when I rang up (for a different matter).
I wouldn't just turn up and hope for the best.
I had mine 9 days ago and it was honestly fine, all the mums in the waiting room were in the same boat and it actually turned out to be a really chilled experience. Good luck x

Lolxx · 04/04/2020 20:35

@sel2223 yeah I was waiting to see if I received any word in the next week & if not I was gonna phone the day before. If I can’t get through he can come along & if they say he can’t come in he’ll be happy to wait in the car. I feel it’s such a sad time to be having babies ☹️ I know in the bigger scheme of things it seems so silly but there’s just so many things being taken away from us that we should be enjoying! We had planned to go & pick our pram the week the lockdown was announced so no idea when we’ll get the chance now!

Other than that I feel so grateful to have this special time with my baby❤️

toastandmoretoast · 04/04/2020 21:37

Not sure where anyone is from but here in Scotland I got a phone call the day before my 20 week scan to check I had no symptoms or family members self isolating and was told to come to the appointment myself. Didn't get a photo away which I'm not sure if that's because of everything going on or what Sad but had a photo from 16 week gender scan.

Whatnowwww · 05/04/2020 16:30

Hello I have a little baby girl due on 31st August. My 20 week scan is on April 16th at a central London hospital- I was in two minds about whether to go or not but the midwives told me I really should, I’ve missed all appointments since 12 weeks but I’ve had a few local baby bond scans

2020Aug · 05/04/2020 22:08

I had a call the day before to check I had no symptoms and was advised no partners, this is a hospital in Surrey.
I keep buying so much online, think I'll have everything prepared by the third trimester at this rate!

KatyButton · 05/04/2020 22:26

Hi all, due 27/8 here with my 2nd and just found out it’s a girl 😊 Had my scan this week and they rang the day before to check I didn’t have any symptoms and to tell me that partners weren’t allowed (I’d already seen it on Twitter). I was really anxious about going into the hospital alone but honestly it was fine, was really quiet in there and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. Sonographer was really lovely and explained everything she was doing. I hope this helps anyone who’s got their scan coming up and is worried. She was also happy to write the sex down so my dh and I could find out together x
