How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

@kaxxz if you're worried I ordered these from amazon - they are 8.99 for 150 and it shows up protein and glucose in your urine. I test twice a week but you could test every day if you needed the peace of mind? They have calmed my anxieties no end. X

StephD2020 · 14/05/2020 11:45

@kaxxz my last appt was 25th Feb! Lol that's the only time I've seen my midwife. Got my 28 week appt on Monday but it won't be with my midwife it will be with someone else. Having my routine bloods done at the same time.

To be honest this is why I'm looking at private midwife options now. The problem is the cost though - it's so expensive!

You should be able to get through to someone 24 hours a day. If not I would contact your local PALS - they should advise you and will definitely be open. X

Oldestchild90s · 14/05/2020 12:02

This is so surprising, my midwife has seen me all of the way through, even through this horrible time. I'm just so sorry to hear a lot of you are not treated the same 😭

StephD2020 · 14/05/2020 12:10

I think it's an NHS trust thing @Oldestchild90s - being in a big city probably means we are in a massive caseload so easily forgotten. To be honest I've got my blood pressure testing kit, blood glucose kit and urine sticks (which currently all show normal readings). I've got a set of bloods on Monday so if they all come back normal I'm not too worried right now, even though I'm a FTM.

But that's probs because I'm 38 and have had the time to sit and go through loads of online information and have lots of friends with children. God only knows how the younger FTMs are getting on, especially if they aren't able to get the usual support from family etc. X

cannotmakemymindup · 14/05/2020 12:11

Those updated RCOG guidelines even state how many times minimum you should be seen in your pregnancy and how much you need a maternity team for continuity! So it's a shame if your trusts aren't doing their best.

"Q. Who should I contact about my antenatal and postnatal care appointments?
If you have been allocated a local health continuity team or a named community midwife

You should continue to contact your continuity team or community midwife by telephone to discuss any questions or concerns you might have and to check on arrangements for all scheduled and future appointments.

If you have not been allocated a local health continuity team or a named community midwife

You should contact your GP surgery or local maternity unit in order to be connected to an appropriate continuity team or named community midwife so you can discuss any questions or concerns you might have and to check on arrangements for all scheduled and future appointments. If you are unsure when your next appointment is you should make contact as above to help us care for you"

StephD2020 · 14/05/2020 12:42

@cannotmakemymindup well I guess I've had all the bare minimum appts? I've had a booking in, 12 week scan, 16 week appt, 20 week scan. 25 week appt cancelled so now 28 weeks on Monday where I'll be 29+1.

On other news, anyone feel like they are just getting lazier and lazier at home right now or is it just me? I mean I've showered, done two loads of washing but that's about it! Cannot get motivated at all! X

cannotmakemymindup · 14/05/2020 12:55

Yes @StephD2020 not sure about @Kalxxz though, I hope you are able to get your appointments sorted.

2020Aug · 14/05/2020 14:24

I am definitely feeling lazier and lazier. I'm working at home but struggling to get out of bed to log on for 9! I'm not sleeping well which isn't helping.

I've got my 28 week appointment next Wednesday, it's now at the hospital rather than local GP surgery but hoping it will go ahead 🤞. I've heard they're then not seeing people until 36 weeks though which sounds a long time.

I'm so excited I can now say less than three months! It still feels like ages but the weeks do feel like they've sped up now.

squashie34 · 14/05/2020 14:34

@2020Aug from my many hospital
Appointments over the last two weeks 😅 I have noticed that this week the hospitals seem much much more back to normal now- departments back where they should be etc, so if your 28 week appointment is at the hospital I would hedge my bets it should be happening! Otherwise that's so long for you to wait!

Just had a meeting with my head and I'm not expected back to work now so that's a huge weight off my mind- just continuing remote teaching from home.

StephD2020 · 14/05/2020 15:20

Glad it's not just me @2020Aug! I'm sleeping fine and getting up ok, it's just the rest of the day that's the problem! Trouble is I always function best with a deadline (I'm someone who deals well with a little stress in their life). As I don't have one the days are just passing me by with nothing achieved!!

I did notice the less than 3 month thing on my app this morning. So weird to think that in 4 months time we will all be on here chatting about how tired we are etc rather than how bored/lazy! 🤣🙈

@squashie34 that's really good to know re the hospitals. My local one is a 5 min walk away for me so I'll just keep my fingers crossed and head down there as planned.

@2020Aug - that point about 36 weeks being the next appt, is that for all mums including FTMs? X

kaxxz · 14/05/2020 15:21

Thanks guys I'm just worried because I'm a FTM and I'm 28 and aneamic too. They said at my booking appointment that I may need growth scans as my BMI is low so I'm also worried if the baby is growing properly.

Finally got through to a midwife who has said to come to the clinic tomorrow for my check up just hope it's not cancelled again.

kaxxz · 14/05/2020 15:23

@StephD2020 thanks for the link I didn't even know you could get these. I'll be ordering some and testing once a week.

JMill13 · 14/05/2020 15:33

@mable88 Highly recommend the bee sleepsuit, it's the cutest.

I've definitely noticed myself being or wanting to be lazier this week. I'm wfh but doing the bare minimum all day, all I want to do by lunch time is sleep most days. Which helps sort me for the afternoon but I didn't get a lunch time nap today so have just been staring at my laptop wishing the hours away till 5 so I can put my phone back on silent and turn the laptop off again.

Going to attempt tescos after work today for the first time since all this happened. My OH has been doing all of shopping but I want to go look at baby stuff as he hasn't a clue what he's looking at, we need to get a birthday card for his sister as well. 2 week until I'm 28 weeks so this will likely be the first and last trip but weirdly looking forward to it. It's annoyed me recently missing all of the baby sales, not even sure if Tescos baby sale is still on but I'm sure they'll have something we need.

cannotmakemymindup · 14/05/2020 17:22

@kaxxz really hope that appointment happens for you and really glad they've decided to see you so quickly. Completely ridiculous with those health concerns to leave you so long.

I am cheering myself up with ordering another DIY doughnut kit to my house for next week as the idea of not going out for anything even the shopping is rather getting to me today.

Newmama29 · 14/05/2020 17:45

Has anyone else been really struggling in isolation recently? I feel like I have nothing to look forward to (I know I have my baby but that still feels so long away, I mean on a day to day basis). I’m also really struggling with getting things organised as a lot of things I wouldn’t think to get unless I was out & about & picking them up as I seen them. I’m really starting to struggle with all this & seeing as my DP is still working 5 days a week I feel more lonelier than ever.

StephD2020 · 14/05/2020 18:13

Oh @Newmama29 I'm sorry that you're feeling that way. Have you spoken to your midwife about this at all? Being alone all day is really hard but there are definitely people who can help you. Do you have someone you can go for a walk with during the day?

I did all of my baby shopping online and have a VERY detailed list if you would like me to send that to you - might give you some ideas and something to focus on? X

Newmama29 · 14/05/2020 18:21

@StephD2020 unfortunately not within my household 👎🏼 I think as they’re is no look to changing things anytime soon (I’m based in Scotland) I can’t see the light at the end of this very long & isolated tunnel. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel deeply depressed or anything I just have days when I’m so completely bored that the struggle is very real. That would be really helpful! I have a few lists from friends of baby essentials but I’m also finding it really hard to order things as nowhere seems to have any stock.

heroineinahalfshell · 14/05/2020 18:25

@StephD2020 I wish I could be lazy at work! It's been non-stop insanity at my Uni since they suspended f2f teaching. I basically get up at 8am, log on at 830 and then don't look up until I log off again at 630/7pm, then collapse in a heap. I'm holding out for the end of June when teaching/marking is over, then i plan to have some VERY lazy days for my last few weeks in work!

I must look up this bee sleepsuit, living in Manchester it's v appropriate! I love Cath Kidston stuff but have been wary of ordering anything since they went into administration, have orders shipped out OK?

StephD2020 · 14/05/2020 18:36

@heroineinahalfshell I think they are in a rescue package so they are closing the high street stores but saving the online offering. I ordered something from them on 28th April and I got it within a week! And they allowed me to cash in an out of date voucher too which was brill!

@Newmama29 I'm just about to do my tea but I will send you my list once I've done (otherwise hubby will get hangry and that's good for no one) x

Oldestchild90s · 14/05/2020 19:00

@Newmama29 i feel the same but i'm still at work. I've been counting down the working days i have left until i leave and currently it's 56, i work 8:30-6:30 and it's really starting to get to me, getting up tired, working a full day and just being completely miserable.. customers make it 10 times worse aswell.

I'm sorry you feel that way too, but the baby can be a really good focus even though it does seem so far away 😭

Newmama29 · 14/05/2020 19:15

@StephD2020 @Oldestchild90s thank you for the replies! I’m sure I’ll feel better & more motivated tomorrow, every day is different ☺️

Bert2020 · 14/05/2020 19:24

@cannotmakemymindup can I ask which company you used for doughnuts please? I have a few birthdays coming up and could be useful for 1 of them.

Has anyone else got no sign of a bump? It’s so strange, literally no one would know if I hadn’t told them. I’m 5ft8 and large but this is my second and nada. If I didn’t feel the kicks and hadn’t seen the scans I would seriously be doubting myself!

cannotmakemymindup · 14/05/2020 20:02

@Bert2020 its from Doughnuts time they're humongous doughnuts and include a vegan option to. I already ordered them a couple of weeks ago and loved them.

www.cathkidston.com/en-gb/cath-kids/baby-0-24-months/baby-sleepsuits/404865605129IVORY.html This is the sleepsuit! Only a couple of sizes left, I think
I’m going to buy one now in case it sells out, something cute for baby to grow into! Grin

@Newmama29 totally with you on the being bored, some days I get to the evening and just feel that the day has been completely wasted and I’ve achieved nothing and wish I was back at work as normal seeing all my friends Sad and I’m wishing my life away, willing it to be August already so I can meet little lady!

Bert2020 · 14/05/2020 20:22

Thanks so much! We’ve had doughnut time before, didn’t realise they do delivery although guess it could be a new thing.
