How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

@Nfblues, I told my 25 week appointment (mid may) will be over the phone, as this one is only offered to FTM and its more talking than getting any test results, but the 28 should be in hospital as it is the one where you have the glucose test.

On another note, has anyone got their MATB1 form yet? I heard they give it to you in the 25 weeks appt, but since its now over the phone I wonder how will I get it? I am suposd to send it to my employer 15 weeks before the due date..

2020Aug · 19/04/2020 09:17

I've been told I will get mine at my 28 wk appointment. Apparently you need to notify your employer by 25 weeks, not supply to Matb1. I checked my employers policy and it said that, notify 15 weeks before due date and supply Matb1 as soon as it is available.
They might be able to send it out though if you request it at your 25 week call?

Hi ladies, pleased to hear you're all doing well.

I had a scan on Friday (20 week rescan as baby wasn't cooperating the first time) which was a lovely excuse to see little lady again and I'm happy to report everything is looking perfect.

I'm supposed to have my 25 week appt in 10 days time which I'm guessing will be changed to a tel appointment but not had a reply from midwife yet. I was curious too about matb1 form and also whooping cough vaccination as was meant to get that then as well.

I'm also meant to have my second consultants appt and next midwife appt at 28 weeks so really hoping they go ahead. I understand the need to cancel non urgent appt or change to tel appts but it's still unnerving thinking of going so long between urine tests and blood pressure checks. A few members of my family have had preeclampsia which was picked up early at these appointments before any real symptoms started developing so it's playing on my mind a bit.
Are the Amazon home tests expensive?

StephD2020 · 19/04/2020 10:38

Not at all @sel2223 ! I got 150 dip sticks for £8.99. They are medical grade and pick up all sorts of things including detection of protein in your urine and glucose levels.

For peace of mind I also bought a glucose testing kit - this was £18.69 so a little more pricey but includes 50 test strips which should see me through to the end of my pregnancy as I don't intend on testing more than twice a day, two times a week.

Hope this helps! X

sel2223 · 19/04/2020 10:42

@StephD2020 thank you for those links. That is so helpful!
I think it's worth ordering some for the piece of mind alone.

StephD2020 · 19/04/2020 10:45

Oh I thought so @sel2223 - I've been going mad with anxiety over the fear of having gestational diabetes as my friend who is also pregnant has just been diagnosed. The fact that my midwife appears to have gone awol too hasn't helped so doing these tests over the last couple of days has made me feel so much calmer about my diet and general level of health. Plus my little lady is wriggling about all over the place all day long in there so she must be cooking away nicely! 🥰

Nfblues · 19/04/2020 11:05

Thank you for all the replies ladies, it will probably be cancelled then but I will call next week anyway just to check. I don’t really have any concerns or anything to talk about either but the thought of being seen is nice.

@sel2223 I had my whooping cough vaccine a few weeks ago at the GP. My GP surgery has an online chat function where you can leave a message, I just messaged then saying how many weeks I was and that I was due one and they got back to me and offered a very early appointment to avoid me bumping into any one. The nurse had PPE on and literally just said hi, stuck the needle in and said bye haha. I would highly recommend you try the GP if you can’t get through to the midwives, whooping cough is horrendous for adults and for babies its much worse and can break ribsSad

JMill13 · 20/04/2020 20:02

Hey all,

Random question but does anyone know if it's normal to feel the need to pee every 5 minutes, not even exaggerating. So I had a proper wee maybe an hour ago but have been feeling like I need to go ever since but nothing actually comes out. Goggle basically just says UTI but can that be considering it's really only been in the last hour? I'm 22+4 in case that helps.

cannotmakemymindup · 20/04/2020 20:14

So if you are having trouble contacting their named midwife I recommend the main maternity unit. That's who I had to ring, then who rung me to sort my next appointment out. My midwife also Awol due to shielding it would seem.

My trust is doing 25 week face to face appointments thankfully so I am hopefully going to meet my new named midwife and have checks. I have to see midwife as I'm anaemic so require extra blood tests as requested from consultant's team.

My consultant appointment was over the phone but really thorough. 25 minutes I think and had lots of time to right notes, ask questions etc,.

Oh and ring your doctors to book Whooping cough. I rung and checked they were still doing them and as previous poster was very very quickly done by nurse in full PPE. If not maternity unit at hospital can do if unavailable at your doctors.

Hope that puts people at ease for all that! If you have any questions I recommend ringing around. It is a pain we have to be as proactive ourselves to ensure things don't get forgotten so I have got a diary that I've written in my weeks etc, so I can keep track as to where I am.

Plus remember any signs of normal pregnancy problems get in touch!!

cannotmakemymindup · 20/04/2020 20:15

I mean with maternity unit/midwife triage/consultant unit etc. Get in touch with them. Not me!!

2020Aug · 20/04/2020 20:30

@JMill13 I'm like this, I called my gp surgery last week as I cannot stop going and also had a dull ache, they got me to drop a urine sample down and tested it but its come back clear. Maybe call them to put your mind at ease?
I can also feel the baby kicking straight down sometimes and feel like im about to wet myself, so think that is sometimes the cause of my constant peeing.

Thanks @cannotmakemymindup very useful, that is good you are still getting a 25 week appointment. My hospital are taking non urgent queries by email.

cannotmakemymindup · 20/04/2020 20:37

@JMill13 and @2020Aug yes I find baby sometimes dancing on my bladder does not help and I need a wee because baby thanks it's a great cushion to dance on.

JMill13 · 20/04/2020 21:18

@2020Aug @cannotmakemymindup yeah I'm think baby must just have been using my bladder as pin cushion as I've finally stopped and baby seems to be higher up poking and nudging my belly instead. Hopefully stays away from my bladder for the rest of the night 🙈

StephD2020 · 21/04/2020 07:36

@cannotmakemymindup that's a good point you make about midwives potentially shielding. I'm going to get in touch with the admin centre again for my trust (North London) as my named midwife hasn't replied to any texts or calls, nor has her supervisor (who I was advised to contact if I couldn't get through to her) and I can't get through to my local GP surgery where my next appointment is due to take place. Very frustrating as I just want a quick 5 min conversation to answer a few questions and then I'll happily drop off their radar until 35 weeks! They must be crazy busy given all the upheaval.

cannotmakemymindup · 21/04/2020 10:34

@StephD2020 I hope you get the answer you need. It is tough when you just need to ask a quick question and can't get through.

JMill13 · 22/04/2020 15:52

Hey all.
Just thought I'd check in, see how you are all doing? See what the craic is with you all?

Anyone else almost 23 weeks and already super uncomfortable?

Lolxx · 22/04/2020 17:20

@JMill13 I’m just coming up on 22 weeks & I’ve felt uncomfortable for weeks 🙈😂 I really bloomed in the space of a week though so don’t think that helped lol!
The shortness of breath at night is the worst for me! It makes me so panicky which obv doesn’t help. I have the midwife tomorrow (well so far I do, haven’t been told it’s cancelled), so hopefully get some reassurance from her!

Is anyone else based in Scotland & filled out the form for the baby box?

StephD2020 · 22/04/2020 17:41

Hey @JMill13 I'm now 25+3 and it's coming in fits and starts! I can definitely tell the days where she's having a growth spurt and I'm feeling bigger turning movements now rather than just the usual pokes and jabs. Nothing unbearable tho! Unlike the heartburn... thank the lord for Gaviscon!! 😩

2020Aug · 22/04/2020 18:15

Hey, I am getting uncomfortable, my ribs ache a lot (midwife thinks its just them expanding) and am finding sitting all day at my laptop uncomfortable and need to constantly change where I sit.
Im not sleeping very well either which isn't helping as I am shattered.

How are you doing?

NishaaS123 · 22/04/2020 19:27

I am due 2and August:D feeling so nervous during these times due to the pandemic but hopefully it all goes well for all of us have bought few things online but really confused with what to buy ans when lol

JMill13 · 22/04/2020 19:49

@Lolxx I seem to have popped in the last week or so. Feel huge today, obviously still not that big really but already feeling it.
You're breathless at night? That doesn't sound fun. Fingers crossed for your midwife appointment tomorrow.

@stephD2020 is 25 much different to 22? I'm 22+5 at the minute and the last two days have been weird. I'm very uncomfortable today with a tight back and I haven't felt any nudges, pokes or kicks for 2 days just the odd wee bit of that weird bubbly feeling but nowhere near what I had been feeling for the past week. No idea where baby has disappeared to. Omg the heartburn is the worst! Literally drinking gaviscon like it's water at the minute. Second worst is the constipation. Think that's why I'm so uncomfortable.

@2020Aug I'm the same. Working from home bent over the laptop is super fun isn't it? Lol. I ended up actually sitting on my exercise ball earlier for a while to stretch my back out. Oh no, no need for not sleeping great! Sleep is so broken from having to pee every half hour/hour.

I'm mostly good, just an anxious mess today hoping baby is okay.

cannotmakemymindup · 22/04/2020 19:56

Definitely a bit uncomfortable at 23+4, back ache sometimes although I think that's the babies bony feet poking in!
I was sick for the first time today in six weeks today but I think I got to hungry or hadn't eaten enough and maybe baby kicked my stomach? (tmi it was very biley).
Anybody else still having sickness occasionally?

JMill13 · 22/04/2020 19:57

@NishaaS123 hey! Pandemic definitely doesn't help the worry but fingers crossed its all gone and at least semi way back to normal by August.
I've started to order a few wee things online now. My friend had a baby last year so she gave me a list of the essentials I'll need so that I don't end up buying a load of useless stuff that gets wasted. Knowing when to buy now is the problem, I feel bad buying incase it takes away from people due sooner getting stuff. I'm not due until 21st August so I don't know if it's fair me buying yet.

Lolxx · 22/04/2020 20:02

Where is everyone managing to get bits & bobs from? I can’t find sizes anywhere & even went on boots to get some baby essentials & everything is out of stock 😔 even ordering out furniture is an issue as no where is open or no stock online! Although we have plenty of time I would just like to get some bits in to feel like I can start enjoying some pregnancy things throughout all this!

Hope everyone is keeping safe!

StephD2020 · 22/04/2020 20:13

@JMill13 yea week 25 is actually loads different! Weeks 21-23 I really felt like I was stretching loads at the front just above my belly button. I'm definitely carrying high so I wonder if this was my abs finally starting to separate? Now I'm much more comfortable unless I eat a big meal. So trying to eat smaller meals but more frequently which is a struggle as I eat so quick and my eyes are defo bigger than my belly at the mo! 🤣

@NishaaS123 we are due the same day! 🥰
