How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

@2020Aug Grin I’m in the same boat! Got a bit excited and have bought everything I think we need at the beginning, minus a few sets of clothes. For some reason I felt like I needed it all ready, but now I feel a bit over ready haha!

JMill13 · 05/04/2020 23:21

Hi all, so glad I've found this thread. Have been anxious mess this last couple of days just thinking about everything. I'm due 21st August so do have a while yet but I haven't bought anything yet and it's stressing me out. Not being able to go try maternity clothes on or go and see/try out stuff for baby is crazy. Hadn't planned on getting anything until after 20 week scan anyway which is the 17th April, so can hopefully start ordering a few things soon. Gutted for my OH that he can't come to the appointment but holding out hope that all being well come August this will all be over or at the very least the rules are still allowing partners into the births.

Hope everyone is doing okay! We got this!

Lolxx · 06/04/2020 09:46

Can I ask everyone what prams & car seats they are thinking of getting? This is the only thing I’m so indecisive of & hate that I can’t see in person xx

Connie222 · 06/04/2020 09:49

@Lolxx the best thing I did with my last child was buy one of the car seats that goes from birth to 7 years. It’s been great and I’ll use it again for this one.

I know some people prefer the bucket seats that you take in and out of the car but the time you can do that for us so short.

2020Aug · 06/04/2020 10:24

@Lolxx I've ordered the Ocarro travel system by Mama and Papa with a cybex car seat.
We went to the baby show in Feb, we had no idea where to start and we spent about 7 hours there! Eventually it was between the Ocarro and Oyster. We settled on the Ocarro as found it slightly easier to put up and down.

I'd start by thinking what you want to use it for. I thought I wanted the babyzen following reviews I've read about how light it is and easy to get on and off public transport. They weren't actually at the baby show but we worked out early on that we wanted something with bigger wheels that would be better for paths and walks by us. Although we live on the outskirts of London, I doubt I'll be using public transport that often so went with something better for walks as we have countryside round us and love our walks.

2020Aug · 06/04/2020 10:28

How is everyone doing? I think the baby has moved position and initially worried me as my kicks weren't as strong but it's been having a wiggle this morning. I've got an anterior placenta and my strong kicks had been to the side, now they're lighter right in the middle which isn't surprising if they're cushioned.

I've also noticed a strange rhythmic pulse type feeling now and again which lasts for about 10 minutes then stops. It occured to me this morning, I wonder if it is the baby hiccuping! Anyone else feel that sort of thing?

sel2223 · 06/04/2020 11:24

Hi everyone, I'm 21+4 and still no movements (anterior placenta)....I'm getting so impatient wanting to feel something!

I've been feeling good though then past night suddenly threw up everywhere. I thought I'd passed that stage!

Also spent most of yesterday bored and online ordering far too many cute baby outfits (oops) and a breastfeeding for dummies book!

Lolxx · 06/04/2020 11:52

@2020Aug thank you so much! Will go & have a look online, finding it so hard to make decisions when I can’t see things in person ☹️

I’m 19+3, I’ve been feeling fluttering since 17 weeks, felt what felt like a proper kick a couple of days ago! I have days when I feel like he’s wriggling about all the time then days when there’s not too much, must depend on his position! Makes me worry though as they always tell you to be vigilant to reduced movement 🙈

Superscientist · 06/04/2020 12:10

Hello, we are having a baby girl due 17th August. We had our scan on Friday, I couldn't find anything online about whether I had to attend on my own or not. My partner came with me knowing he would probably have to stay in the car. There was a sign on the door saying all appointments must be attended on your own so he went back to car.
We were hoping to buy as much as possible second hand but that's not an option currently. We are just playing the waiting game hoping that we will be able to further down the line.
I ordered a few maternity clothes yesterday after my next order got cancelled. Its a good job I'm working from home and my work clothing can be little more relaxed!

toastandmoretoast · 06/04/2020 15:24

@Lolxx I went for the Mamas and Papas Ocarro. It's a great pram, nice and compact. Suits us well as we're both short lol. Good wheels for lots of walks with the dog. It's not too heavy either but probably heavier than some x

cannotmakemymindup · 06/04/2020 15:47

Hiya also August 15th here and a surprise. Glad to have found you all.

I have already nearly got everything already, lots second hand from friends before lockdown started either purchased or handed down. I like to be sorted, especially with the craziness going on. Even got silver cross travel system second hand off friend.

20 week scan last week went well. Agree hospital was very quiet on the maternity side which helped me feel very safe.

I am just having issues speaking to my midwife, not sure if she's not actually working as I haven't seen or heard from her at week 8!! Heard from another midwife it maybe because mine is in the vulnerable group. Which I understand I would just like to know who my point of contact for any issues are. (Such as I get a headache everyday atm and don't know who to talk to)

sel2223 · 06/04/2020 16:18

@cannotmakemymindup did you not have a 16 week appointment with a midwife? I had mine just a couple of weeks before the lock down started.

Nfblues · 06/04/2020 16:33

@cannotmakemymindup How frustrating for you! Do you not have a number for the office? If not I would definitely have a google of your local area + community midwives and see what comes up. Or call your GP surgery to enquire how to contact your midwifery team. I wouldn’t be relying on one person, not in a time like this. Fwiw I’m a HV and fall into the vulnerable group also so am no longer working, I’m sure all my regular families are wondering where I’ve disappeared to but I changed my work voicemail message / email signature to state to call the office instead. There should be something similar in place for you.

cannotmakemymindup · 06/04/2020 16:46

@sel2223 and @Nfblues I did see a Midwife for 16 weeks checks just before lockdown who was incredibly dismissive of a lot of things and felt like she wasn't happy to have her work load increased that day.

I have the number for the office but it isn't local as such it's based at the hospital as we're in a peripheral town, so it doesn't get through to the same midwives - they don't quite all know each other! Plus last week it said to just get in touch in emergencies etc otherwise get in touch with your mudwife. So rather stuck between rock and hard place.

Our local doctors I don't think do anything to do with the midwives as they are not based their either.

mable88 · 06/04/2020 17:21

Having said I wasn’t expecting a call about my scan, I did actually receive one this morning! It was to tell me to stay in the car when I arrive and they would phone me to tell me when to come into the building and also to tell me that partners aren’t allowed in (which I already knew). I’m actually now quite excited - will be my first time out if the house (apart from walking) for weeks!! Smile

Bubblesbebe · 06/04/2020 18:52

Hi everyone! I am now 19+4, baby due on the 27th August Smile
I have my 20 week scan next week, so still don’t know the sex. Haven’t bought anything at all yet, but starting to feel quite anxious hearing everyone is getting ready so early!

I have been feeling the baby since week 17, which is quite reassuring, but at the same time I’m a bit scared to see that my belly hasn’t grown much and its not noticeable when I am dressed.. I panic that the baby isn’t growing properly.. are you all already showing?

cannotmakemymindup · 06/04/2020 19:04

@bubblesbebe I am quite already showing but this is my second pregnancy and I am also quite short with a really small torso so the only way I can go is out! (5'2" with my hips finishing at the same height as my husband at 5'7" so you can imagine really little torso!)

And the main rule is everyone is different!

Connie222 · 06/04/2020 19:13

@Bubblesbebe two previous pregnancies I’ve not shown until 30 weeks.

I’m quite fat this time round, but you still wouldn’t know i was pregnant. If I didn’t feel like death half the time I’d forget I was.

Lolxx · 06/04/2020 19:43

@Bubblesbebe I feel like you in terms of organised! I haven’t bought anything 🙈😂

On the other hand I’m opposite (19+3) & I feel huge!! Nothing fits me anymore & im constantly uncomfortable! I’m worried my baby’s gonna be too big!

2020Aug · 06/04/2020 19:47

My bump popped out about 16 weeks and definitely look pregnant now! I've also got a really short torso, and am really slim so I always assumed I wouldn't be able to hide it for too long!
I hadn't put on any weight until last week at 21 weeks though and was getting worried! I'm finally above my pre-pregnancy weight now - never thought I'd be so relieved by that!

ml01omm · 06/04/2020 21:13

I haven't bought anything yet. I am massively conflicted between worrying about the supply chains failing and being left with nothing - so need to sort well in advance and the old fashioned "tempting fate" by ordering too soon. ( Irrational I know as am 21 weeks).

Is anyone else having trouble with Maternity Jeans?I ordered some from New Look, in my usual pre-pregnancy size, and they won't stay up?! They slide down my bum by the time I've made it from my bedroom to downstairs.

sel2223 · 06/04/2020 21:24

I'm finding maternity clothes a nightmare too @ml01omm jeans in particular! I've got wide hips and struggling to keep them up without any sort of belt or even a proper waistband! I'm pleased I'm working from home so can live in baggy tracksuit bottoms and leggings.

My bump popped around 16 weeks too and I feel massive now at 21 weeks.

As for buying things, I got a snuz pod and a joolz day 3 pushchair second hand 2 days before we went into lock down. I wanted to wait till the 3rd trimester but panicked a bit about being able to get everything I needed. Since lock down, I've bought quite a bit and I've had loads of baby clothes gifted by family members so been sorting through all of them.

Luna321 · 06/04/2020 23:46

I've always found H&M maternity jeans to be really good. We've got all the big bits already from my first. I've only bought clothes so far. I'd like to get a sleepyhead this time and definitely a better pump.

Nfblues · 07/04/2020 14:11

My bump popped out at about 15 weeks and I definitely look pregnant now, I’m waddling quite a bit! But I am fairly short at 5’3” and slim so expected. On the other hand no proper movements despite being almost 22 weeks so it’s all swings and roundabouts.

I second the H&M maternity jeans. I got one pair on sale at the beginning of my pregnancy for about £10 and then after that found someone locally selling a second hand bundle of them on FB for a few quid. Absolute bargain and I’ve worn them most days since.

SpimblesDimbles · 07/04/2020 14:34

Has anyone had a chat with their midwives about what they expect to be happening in August when it comes to being in labour and giving birth?

I know at the moment a lot of places are only allowing one birth partner but i'm dreading this being taken away and having to do it alone. It's bad enough the thought of being induced alone and not having my other half there until i'm in established labour!

Trying to tell myself it will be ok by the end of August but then.. what if it's not!
