How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

I'm 27 weeks with my first child. I think I'll monitor it this evening and then call triage in the morning if i don't feel anything strong. I'm hoping he will start kicking once I've eaten dinner.

squashie34 · 04/05/2020 18:23

Talking of walking, does anyone else get a rock hard stomach that feels super heavy when they go for a walk? I'm wondering (hopefully 🤣) if it's a sign to not exercise haha

Lolxx · 04/05/2020 19:42

@squashie34 I have this! I feel so uncomfortable & the only time I feel some relief is when I support the bottom of it with my hands lol! I’m of a slimmer build so I think it’s just my body not used to the weight. Any excuse not to walk too far though! I’m also having terrible sciatica, I’ve had it since the first trimester 😩

sel2223 · 04/05/2020 20:17

Have any of you tried a support belt of some sort? I've ordered one off Amazon but not sure if they actually work.

Lolxx · 04/05/2020 20:37

@sel2223 when I went to my 12 week scan I had mentioned to the consultant about sciatica (I was under consultant plan at the beginning as I am slightly hyper mobile), she suggested I see a physio & they might give me a bump support for further on. I stupidly didn’t deal with this at the time & now under the circumstances won’t be able to see one 🤦🏼‍♀️ Let me know how much use you find it as I might invest in one if it’ll do me good xx

2020Aug · 04/05/2020 21:23

I'm getting this too @squashie34 I assumed it was my core muscles trying to balance the extra weight at the front!

I've been looking at the support belt, do you find it useful @sel2223?

I cant wait to see what our little one looks like. I've got dark really curly hair with hazel eyes and my husband has very blonde fine hair with blue eyes.

StephD2020 · 04/05/2020 21:24

@mable88 I'm glad you're feeling better today - I defo think being outside in the fresh air in the sunshine really helps your mood!

So.... continuing on that theme @squashie34 and @Lolxx yes to the hard tummy when walking! It's like as soon as she knows I'm off out for my daily 5k she start stretching like mad. It also means that literally 10 mins in I'm also busting for a wee 😩

Me and hubby are going to try walking first thing tomorrow morning before we've eaten and take a coffee for en route - am hoping that by being a little dehydrated from the night time I'll be able to make it a bit further before having to disappear behind a hedgerow for a wee 🤣

squashie34 · 04/05/2020 22:05

@StephD2020 this has made me chuckle because it's so relatable 😆 it's like taking out a little child.. the last thing I do before our walk is go for a wee, haven't even been gone 5 minutes and I say I need to pee again 🙈 it must be something to do with extra weight load then, please do share about if the pregnancy support belts work! I was also quite slim before the 2stone baby and lockdown binges happened so maybe it's that.

Has anyone also had this 'lightening crotch' yet?! I had it today on our walk, felt like someone had got one of those electric shock machines right on my 'noo noo' and it made me shout out whilst we were walking.. think my partner is going to stop taking me out 🤣

mable88 · 04/05/2020 22:15

@squashie34 Oh my gosh lightning crotch is the worst!! Only had it a handful of times so far but that’s more than enough for me. Confused The first time my husband was really panicked as I was squealing and doubled over - he recognises the signs now! Luckily it never lasts too long for me... so far!

squashie34 · 04/05/2020 22:26

@mable88 it only lasts for a second or two doesn't it but my god it's like you've been shot 😂

Anyone else due August 2020?
StephD2020 · 04/05/2020 22:55

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that is hilarious!!! I haven't had that thank god but my friend who is due in 3 weeks has it all the time and says it is a nightmare!

@squashie34 my dh is defo gonna stop taking me out; aside from moaning about needing a pee, stopping for a pee, or the WILD windy pops (yup, both ends), I'm an absolute delight..... 😱

cannotmakemymindup · 05/05/2020 00:11

You ladies are cracking me up! Yes the ridiculously hard stomach. I had to do some shopping this evening and it was just so tough by the time I was home plus yes instantly need a wee as soon as I got back!

Not that I am out much but in the supermarket, a neighbour and in photos people are commenting how big my bump is and saying that I don't look like I have long left like a few weeks. I have 15 weeks left so feeling as big as a house now. I think it's because I am really short with a tiny torso but still I want to scream and cry!

As for looks? I don't know what we're having plus im mixed race (black West Indian and white)with dark brown eyes and my DH is white with green eyes. So lots of potential. Our daughter is olive toned with almost gold colour eyes which are slowly getting more hazel like as she gets older. Lots of light brown curly hair. So much potential options!

Oldestchild90s · 05/05/2020 06:52

@JMill13 yes, not too bad thanks. Like others have mentioned i feel absolutely massive, and it's quite hard to take considering i was so fit beforehand 😭 i'm starting to get real bad sciatica pains and side pain (especially on my right side) which is an absolute killer. Apart from that, i haven't been sick, or felt really really bad and have tried to stay positive throughout this weird time and it's paying off so far! I'm still working which is taking it's toll a bit but i need the money so there's not much i can do about that! How's it going for you? 🤰

Oldestchild90s · 05/05/2020 06:58

I've had the rock hard stomach thing, it feels really weird but i only get it every now and then!

As for looks as everyone keeps saying, people keep mentioning to me as i have red hair my baby will also have red hair. Don't get me wrong, i don't care what hair colour she has and i am intrigued but i don't like the negative vibes i'm getting around the whole 'ginger hair' thing. I already had to put up with this when i told people i was having a girl, people seemed soooo gutted i wasn't having a boy and now the fact my child will probably have red hair seems to be the end of the world!

Suppose it's laughable in a way, but we're happy!
Love hearing about all these possible hair/eye colour outcomes it's so exciting 😀 i'm just praying she has my dimples 🤞🏻

squashie34 · 05/05/2020 07:48

@Oldestchild90s I'm a redhead too and this is the one thing people won't stop going on about! 'Oooooh she's going to be a lovely ginger baby' could she not also inherent my smile or my blue eyes or my wonky nose?! Not sure why everyone is fixating on her hair colour so much. I love my red hair now but it's for precisely this reason I hated it growing up (and died it many a horrendous black box dyes!) I actually hope she gets my partners hair colour which is mousy brown just so people stop going on about it 😆

2020Aug · 05/05/2020 10:21

I have never heard of lightening crotch but will be watching out for in now!

Superscientist · 05/05/2020 10:38

Lots of redheads in here!
I was picked on for many things but really my hair unless you count youths shouting "you're ginger" at me in the street.... Thank you for pointing it out I didn't realise until you said!
I hadn't heard of lightning crotch either something else up watch out for.
@cannotmakemymindup I'm sorry people are being insensitive, I'm sure you have a lovely bump.

StephD2020 · 05/05/2020 12:28

This is why I'm loving lockdown - avoids people and their unnecessary thoughtless comments! Who cares what colour hair your babies have, as long as they are healthy and happy!

My partner and I both have mouse brown hair, very fair skin and blue eyes so there's no doubting exactly the way our little bean is going to turn out!

@cannotmakemymindup I can totally empathise with you - every zoom call I go on people keep asking to see my bump and then gasp when they see me! I wouldn't mind but it's all women who have had babies before so they should know just how insensitive it is! Anyway for what it's worth, you're growing a person, you're meant to have a nice sized bump at 6 months. All signs of growing a lovely little healthy one 🥰

Nfblues · 05/05/2020 12:36

Morning ladies! I got a pregnancy support belt from Amazon last week because I was having a lot of lower back pain where I assume my bump is getting very heavy for my back. It’s quite good, although not a miracle cure. I wear it if standing for a while cooking or something and it helps hold my bump up which lessens back pain. The one I got has a little booklet with exercises you can do with it to - although fat chance I’m doing any exercising. I’m struggling to roll out of bed already never mind try a squat!

I’m 25+5 today, is it too early to start organising baby clothes and other bits? DH drilled the changing unit that we got this week into the wall to secure it and until now all the stuff we have for the baby is in a cardboard box in our wardrobe. I’ve taken it out and plan on putting it all in the changing unit today which is exciting. Anyone have any idea on how many vests/babygros of each size is enough? We’ve only got 4 newborn ones so I’m sure we need more of them and nothing 3-6m yet.

DH and I looked surprisingly similar as babies, despite me being Asian and him half African lol, so I guess baby will look like the both of us. My hair is very straight and his wavy though so excited to see what her hair looks like.

Can’t believe I only have 15 weeks left! It’s gone really fast in the second trimester and I feel so grateful that we’ll have her here with us very soon🥰

sel2223 · 05/05/2020 12:54

@NFblues I am 25+5 too. Just had my support belt delivered so going to try it when I go for a walk today.
It's mainly for back ache but I've also got this weird idea in my head that it'll help reduce stretch marks as the bump won't heavily pulling downwards/stretching as much of it is supported. No idea if that's true or just something made up in my own head haha.

Your baby will be beautiful being half Asian and a quarter African....very exotic. I'm having a mixed race baby too.

JMill13 · 05/05/2020 13:03

@oldestchild90s body changing does take some getting used to doesn't it? Have you kept one working out or anything through it so far?

I keep getting tight and sore every couple of days on my left hand side up almost at my shoulder blade on my back, like kinda ribs but I'm not even sure what it is. Only thing seems to help is lying down in bed after a stretch on my hands & knees on the floor. Which isn't really ideal while trying to answer the phone and sit doing actual work on the laptop.

I feel a bit the same, just taking the positives of every day through lockdown and focusing on that. Is there anything can be done sciatica pain? Are you working with the public? That sucks, but at least you've still got a job in all the craziness and hopefully remain safe and well through it.

I never understood the stick people used to get for having red hair. I was blonde but even as a little I always wanted red hair, grew up and just have a thing for redheads now lol. Although same goes for wearing glasses and everything too, I was always picked on for being four eyes and all that. I just hope baby takes after my boyfriends side of the family or else the poor little will be as blind as I am, which isn't great.

cannotmakemymindup · 05/05/2020 13:14

@Superscientist @StephD2020 thank you for the encouragement about bump sizes, I'm hoping it's because for friends etc it's they're not seeing the gradual changes so it's such a surprise.

Loving all the mixed race babies on her and the red heads! I never understood peoples meanness. Growing up one of my good friends had naturally copper hair, her older step brother used to tease her mercilessly. Fast forward a few years he gets married to a blonde lady, their first son - you guessed it very ginger, second son very ginger to. At least he has matured since then and does not take the mickey out of his sons.

Luna321 · 05/05/2020 15:37

Another red head here with green eyes 🙂 my husband has dark brown hair and green eyes. Our son is blonde haired and blue eyed! so we were both surprised. His hair had a red tinge to it first then changed, it's so weird how that happens. So no idea what this next one will be like.
Last time I really hurt my back at around 28 weeks (while painting my son's room 🙈) so I'm trying to be careful this time. A couple of times a week I get a sore/achey bump after dinner but I think that's the muscles stretching from eating a big dinner combined with baby having a little growth spurt maybe?!

Lolxx · 05/05/2020 17:06

It’s reassuring to see others talking about their movements. I’m 23+4 & don’t feel like he has a pattern at all. There’s days when he’s thumping me & rolling around non stop, then other days where I feel some slight movement throughout the day & some harder kicks at night. I don’t want to phone the maternity unit every time I feel like this as I feel I may never be out then lol

Superscientist · 05/05/2020 17:08

I hope your back is OK this time round!

Do any of my fellow red heads find babies /young are fascinated by your hair? My friends daughter launched herself out of her arms to grab at my hair, she was about 1 at the time and apparently I'm the only person she had done that too. I had a similar reaction from my cousins daughter.
