How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

Anyone else been getting nose bleeds? Since I found out I was preggo I've had super blocked sore nose waking up every morning not being able to breath out of it and then at a couple of times a day one nostril or the other just decides to bleed. Not badly and always stops in about a minute but it's really annoying, I just want my nose back 😂

Oldestchild90s · 05/05/2020 21:05

@JMill13 It's weird, the sciatica pains come and go but luckily they are not there constant so i've been using Paracetamol and hot water bottles.. not that it does much!! I work in pharmacy, but i'm grateful that i work with a team that are really protective of me so i'm at the back (not customer facing) doing everything else but serve customers. Are you enjoying working from home?
I really wanted to carry on with my exercise but i simply cannot do it, someone recommended pregnancy yoga which is supposed to be good so i may give that a try.

Haha my poor girl doesn't have a chance, the red hair and we both have really bad eyesight 😂 i just don't like the bullying, kids are so mean!!

Do you think this whole situation will be over by the time we are due? Does it worry you? As time goes on i have to admit i'm starting to worry about labour a little more everyday.

Oldestchild90s · 05/05/2020 21:11

@squashie34 Haha oh yes the black hair dye days! To be honest i'm not bothered about hair colour and stuff really but i do worry about the bullying, like you said it was crap growing up to people taking the mick out of my hair at every given chance! My other half has blonde hair so i reckon the chances are i won't escape it but she can be my little red ❤️

Have people been mentioning the hair to you in a positive way? People seem to be quite negative to me 🤦🏼‍♀️

Lolxx · 05/05/2020 23:30

@JMill13 yes! I’ve had the exact same, stuffy nose & slight nosebleeds. I was putting it down to my hay fever as well as it’s been really bad but coupled with being pregnant it’s giving me nosebleeds!

@Oldestchild90s I’m starting to feel nervous about labour too. Not so much the labour but not being able to have my partner there until a certain point. My biggest fear is being induced & being in labour alone for 12+ hours until the point he’d be allowed in! I’m also worried about being alone during it in case something happens & there would be no one to make decisions for me if I was unable. It’s all very uncertain & worrying!

Nfblues · 06/05/2020 00:01

@JMill13 I haven’t had nosebleeds but have had a very stuffy nose from the beginning of pregnancy and have to blow it daily, there’s always a little bit of blood on my tissues but I looked into it and some bleeding is quite common.

For those of you worried about labour, have you guys looked into the positive birth company? I got it on offer and have been going through it slowly, some of it is a little airy-fairy for me I have to admit but a lot of it is very good and reassuring. Also I highly highly recommend watching the antenatal classes by the RUH midwives in Bath on YouTube - I think it’s called Hello Baby. They aren’t able to do their sessions so have recorded them and they’ve been soo helpful, DH and I are slowly getting through them and have just finished the bits about labour. The midwife doing it is really good at explaining things simply and straight to the point.

squashie34 · 06/05/2020 07:50

@Oldestchild90s oh no don't get me wrong I too think red hair is beautiful and would love for it to make her unique.. but I just don't want her going through what I went through in a boom which is so sad, and why I'd rather her not have my hair- but with the OH being mousey I think it may be likely that the Celtic'ness wins 😆

I'm really concerned about the whole covid thing as time keeps going on. At first, self isolating almost felt like a little luxury that we could work from home and grow babies safely, thinking that 5 months was plenty of time for it to blow over until August, but like you said time is getting much closer now and things don't seem to be changing!! Which is worrying, for the labour part but I also just want to be back to normal, being able to take little one out for walks and to visit places and enjoy my partners paternity leave outside seeing as it's the summer and visiting friends and family! I also worry that if some form of social distancing continues as it's suggested then we aren't going to get to take them any mummy and baby groups like baby sensory, not only impacting them by being cooped up in the house and not having the chance to interact with other babies, but also from a selfish point of view that I was really looking forward to making some new mummy friends 🙁 which I know when people are dieing is a small thing in the scale of everything but I can't help but feel this whole experience has been taken away from us a little bit!

squashie34 · 06/05/2020 07:50

In a boom should have read in school 🤣 not sure what crazy autocorrect that was

Beau2020 · 06/05/2020 07:55

@jmill13 funny you say that actually because the way I found out I was pregnant was I had a nosebleed! Never suffered with them ever before and then one day I had a nose bleed. I googled the symptoms and one of them was early pregnancy which prompted me to get a test and voila I was pregnant! Had a few since then too xx

StephD2020 · 06/05/2020 08:30

Morning all!! Yup @oldestchild90s I'm freaking out about labour! I think there will be some relaxation of the rules by the time we go in but not sure what.

I'm hoping I go into labour spontaneously but like you say @lolxx I'm worried about being alone while induced. My friend is pregnant and due on 26th and as she has GD she'll be induced that day if no sign of baby so let's see what happens with her.

I'm also watching ALL of the baby shows (have been a fan for the 10 years I've been trying for a baby). Defo starting to come round to a home birth, just hope they are back on the table for us come August!

@squashie34 I think the social distancing will be a little more relaxed by the time September comes - Ireland are allowing larger gatherings by the end of August so I think we will just about sneak into the classes by the time we are ready. 🤞🏻

Lolxx · 06/05/2020 08:45

I’m not necessary worried about labour itself, it’s just something I have to get over to meet baby! It’s the being alone thing that worries me! Plus my partner works night shift driving far & if I go into labour overnight it could be max 6/7 hours before he gets home, so then my biggest concern is to have my mum there but if he gets back before baby is born he wouldn’t be allowed to swap in with my mum so that all makes me anxious. I do feel like we’ve been robbed of this, I know there are really important things but I just feel that not being able to do all the things others have done for years does get me down!

Superscientist · 06/05/2020 09:07

This situation won't be over by August but that is not to say we will be under the same restrictions as we are now. The longer term projections (anything beyond a few weeks) are pure speculation and are dependent on the earlier lifts not causing new spikes of cases.

I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst but hope for the best.

What is likely is that the restrictions in place will be loosened for a period of time then tightened again and repeat until either a vaccine is available in suitable amounts (you typically need 80% vaccination rates that is ~50 million doses for the UK alone) or the strain has become suitably weakened in the community so not to be as dangerous (this happens with some flu strains but there is no evidence that this is likely with covid19).

I was reading an article the other day where there was some modelling that to not create further peaks everyone will have to limit contact to less than 10 people a day. Also that if social distancing is reduced from 2m to 1m your risk of being exposed to the virus in 1 minute at 2metres is the same as being within 1 metre of someone for 6 seconds. It wouldn't take much to have localised outbreaks. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with different restrictions in different areas

sel2223 · 06/05/2020 09:29

I NEED the restrictions to be relaxed by August. OH is on lockdown in another country and I can't bear the thought that he won't be able to get here for the birth.
As soon as I start thinking about it, I start to panic so I have to just try and stay positive that a lot can happen in 3 months.

Superscientist · 06/05/2020 09:53

A lot can happen and I can see a lift in restrictions between now and August, the point I was trying to clumsily make is that the lift in restrictions is probably not going to be one way.

I hope your OH gets home as soon as possible. It must be tough

StephD2020 · 06/05/2020 10:40

Yes I agree with you @Superscientist I am quite sure there will be an easing of the restrictions come August. At the moment we are the most hit (non)European country and our death rate is 0.04% of the population which really is minuscule in the scheme of things. I think that we are in a good position as we are behind most other countries so we are able to see the impact on them and what happens as they ease social distancing.

@sel2223 I am very hopeful that things will resemble more of the old 'normal' by the time we go in. Where is your OH? Are they able to get a flight booked at all? X

cannotmakemymindup · 06/05/2020 10:44

@sel2223 really hope your OH is able to get home as soon as possible. I can only imagine how tough that must be.

Do bizarre mention about nose bleeds I woke up to one today. Didn't even sneeze or anything. I suffer from them anyway with my hayfever but normally I can feel the heat or pressure in my nose so know it's going to happen. Being a bit anaemic atm I just always think I haven't really got blood to spare!

mable88 · 06/05/2020 10:48

I’m sure things will have changed to a degree by August - I think the government are announcing their plans for the eventual easing of lockdown quite soon (my mum said Boris is speaking to us on Sunday but I’m not sure where she’s got that from!) and if schools etc start to drip-feed back towards something resembling business as usual soon then I think other things will start to as well. I am clinging on to this as I can’t bear the thought of my parents not being able to come and visit their first grandchild!

Bert2020 · 06/05/2020 10:52

Hello all, I’ve only just found this thread. I hope you don’t mind if I join? I’ve been on another but it’s pretty quiet at the moment so glad to have found you.
I’m due the 22nd but have GD and had PIH in my first so will definitely be arriving early but just have to wait and see how early. I’ve had nosebleeds this week, I had a ruddy good cry at the weekend so think mainly caused by that but not being helped to heal by the pregnancy.

JMill13 · 06/05/2020 11:13

@Oldestchild90s The joyus side of Pregnancy eh!
That's good that you have protective work people. I love working from home for the most part. I miss the craic of every day office craziness but I love being able to be with my dog all day. It's super helpful on days like this too, when pregnancy is kicking my arse, so I can lie in bed with my phone and laptop and actually be comfy. I've actually ordered a yoga mat from Amazon, hoping to start some pregnancy yoga to see if it helps, it's supposed to help for labour etc. as well. So might be worth a try. Before lockdown I was going to join a local pregnancy yoga class but had to wait till I was over 14 weeks and then we hadn't told anyone we were pregnant yet and then lockdown happened. haha I feel sorry for my kid for how bad my eyesight is, I just hope squints aren't hereditary.

I don't think it'll be over but I'm hoping it'll be less restrictive by the time we're all due. I was on the phone with a girl from work yesterday and her friend just had twins the other day and got induced and she said that because she's never had a baby before she knew no different so the whole experience was actually still nice and as relaxed as it could be. The nurses, doctors, midwives or whoever all still make it the experience as best for you as they can. Especially if your partner can't be there for whatever reason. They're going above and beyond to make the experience for every mother the best they can. It still worries me that I'll some how or other end up having to do it without my other half there by my side.

@Lolxx I've never really have hayfever/allergies so have decided it must just be one of those fun preggo things.

@Nfblues I just bought the book from the founder of the positive birth company on Hypnobirthing. Going to start reading it tonight. I've heard so many rave reviews about how much the techniques of Hypnobirthing help so many women no matter the way they give birth.

@sel2223 fingers crossed your other half is allowed back by then! I think it may depend on the country and their rules as well.

JMill13 · 06/05/2020 11:20

@Bert2020 welcome :)

squashie34 · 06/05/2020 14:49

This may a little a TMI 🙈 but has anyone else noticed a huge increase in discharge thoughout the day since they've been pregnant? It's starting to make me feel uncomfortable down below so I might have to invest in some pads.

squashie34 · 06/05/2020 14:50

This pregnancy lark makes you feel so glamorous...🙄🤣

StephD2020 · 06/05/2020 15:29

@squashie34 yup I hear ya! Grim ay! 🤣

I am defo suffering from little lady's growth spurt today - i am exhausted and also being stretched from the inside out most definitely! I simply cannot get comfy.

On the request front, anyone's oh obsessed with the daily walk? Mine literally talks about it from dawn till dusk. Can't wait for him to do 2 days of work next week so I can have a relax for a few hours 🤣

JMill13 · 06/05/2020 15:45

@stephd2020 right there with ya! I've had to get the pregnancy pillow out and stay half sat/half lay on the bed while working. Thank god I've no video calls. Tried the exercise ball, a shower, and everything I can think of but nothing except this seems to help me be comfy. Its great fun.

My oh is the opposite. Loves when I say I can't walk today so he doesn't have to come 😂 but that doesn't happen often cause we are the proud parents of a Collie x 4 year old doggo that needs that walk.

sel2223 · 06/05/2020 16:04

Thank you everyone. I'm a realist so know deep down that it's unlikely but I just can't bear to give up all hope....It's the only thing keeping me going day to day!

@squashie34 yep. This pregnancy lark definitely isn't glam!

2020Aug · 06/05/2020 16:20

That sounds like me and my daily walk @StephD2020 😂,I spend all day looking forward to it! Its the little things that get you through lockdown 😂.
