Hey ladies,

So my sickness has sprung back into action for some reason, my Easter was a write off. I hope you all had a lovely time at home.

I'm 15 weeks too and I don't know if it's a growth spurt but I'm feeling really tired again like I did at the beginning of the 1st trimester. I've had to have 2-3 hour naps each day.

Also, is anyone else getting nose bleeds? I've been having them during the night.

LexiM · 14/04/2020 12:27

I had to call my midwife to book in my 16 week appointment, which I hadn’t realised until the sonographer told me at the scan as the midwife at the booking appointment said I would be automatically sent it. I’ve learnt to just double check everything now if I don’t hear anything. Currently mine is an appointment at the surgery but I appreciate that may change by the time it takes place. I think it’s odd that everything is so different for everyone but I guess it depends on the set up of the surgeries, staff etc.

@Aquablue1123 sorry to hear you’re feeling sick again. It’s so annoying isn’t it. I felt like I had more energy last week then yesterday was shattered, just gotta go with it, I am feeling so grateful for being at home. I really hope your nose bleeds stop too, haven’t heard of that but I would ask the midwife if not sure.

Just got my letter from the 12 week tests to confirm baby is low risk which is reassuring. I’m glad they told me it could be 2-3 weeks to receive the letter otherwise I would have thought I’d been forgotten!

Treacle81 · 14/04/2020 12:49

@Aquablue1123 I’m the same, the last week I have been napping every day for 2 hrs! Yest was first day I didn’t feel need to sleep during day. Not so much nose bleeds but sore, stuffy and yea it is common second trimester xx

Aquablue1123 · 14/04/2020 12:53

That's good news @lexim so pleased for you, I bet you are relieved.

@Treacle81 I think we are just going to be up and down on energy throughout, the silver lining of staying home are midday naps I suppose haha.

MrsD1990 · 14/04/2020 13:03

@Aquablue1123 I've been having really light nose bleeds. Thought it was so weird but then read on my pregnancy app that it's really common in the second trimester, especially around 15/16 weeks.

I don't have a 16 week appointment. Mine all appear on an app and I think the 16 one got deleted - was sure I had an April appointment before.

MsSian93 · 14/04/2020 13:29

I had my 16 week appointment today on the phone, she phoned me an hour or so earlier and said that if i really had any concerns and worries that she would see me if i wasn't happy over the phone which was reassuring. I have a consultant appointment monday because of a kidney condition and sounds like i might have more scans as we go. If i didn't have that though she wouldn't have seen me in person until the 28 week appointment! I haven't even met this midwife yet so she said she definitely wants to see me at 24 weeks.

I've been feeling the nausea again quite badly and been exhausted again this week - currently 16wk 3 days - must be a growth spurt haha !

Indigogirl88 · 14/04/2020 13:46

Oh no @Aquablue1123 that sucks. No nose bleeds but have a really blocked nose, I'm also super tired

I'm preparing a list for when I speak to a midwife this is what I've got

Am I still allowed a home birth?
When will I get my whooping cough vaccine?
How do I get my maternity exempt form?
I had a cyst on my right ovary at an early scan has this now gone?

If anyone wants to use these feel free and if anyone else thinks of questions maybe we could share these to make us all feel a bit more in control?

I've been feeling more awake although today is a struggle and scrolling through mn is helping me!

Treaclepie19 · 14/04/2020 13:51

Stuffy nosed here too. I do get blood sometimes as well.
I'm with you all on the tiredness... headaches too 😩
15w tomorrow and so want to feel confident enough that all is okay to not have to hide that I'm pregnant anymore.
Not that I'm seeing anyone, but I have a blog for the baby we lost and wanted to share the news on there.

Spark27 · 14/04/2020 14:13

Thanks for the reminder on the whooping cough vaccine @Indigogirl88. I'm seeing the mw for my 16w appt on thursday, I'm going to ask about 1)headaches, I seem to have a constant dull one, 2) possible sciatica-type pain, I have a really bad pain on my right side sometimes, doesn't seem to radiate down the leg though, and 3) whooping cough vaccine.
I'm also really hoping they still listen to the hb (they did last time) as I feel I really need some level of reassurance.

After that I wont see her until 28w as it's my 2nd.

My nose has been a bit more bunged up, but no bleeding. But I've read more bleeds are common in pregnancy, esp tri 2.

Zaalfruit · 14/04/2020 14:19

Sorry to hear that some are feeling sick again .

@Treaclepie19 I been getting headaches - mine feel like congestion’s in my sinus been tryin the sterimar relief. Not sure if it’s helping but thought it’s worth a shot.

@Indigogirl88 those are good questions- might ask them as well thanks
I’m going to ask the following ;
My dad has diabetes so I’m going to ask if I need the glucose test done and when will it get done ?
Are water births still being offered?
Will I still be consultant led?
Do they tell us the gender at 20 weeks? ( not all hospitals in my area do)

Is there anything I need to eat or do to ensure a healthy pregnancy ? I’m struggling with food a lot - everything gives me acid reflux that burns 🥵

It would be great if others can share questions as it makes me feel so much less alone .

otterbaby · 14/04/2020 14:36

Regarding questions for the midwife - I bought some scales online so I can track my weight (assuming I won't be getting weighed on a regular basis if I'm only getting phone appts for the time being). I downloaded an app called pregnancy+ where you can log it so at least I can check with her that I'm progressing as normal. Might be an idea!

@Zaalfruit I'm consultant led as well but need to clarify what this actually means...I met with my consultant after my 12 week scan but unsure of what else this includes. I know I have additional scans at 32 & 36 weeks but I was under the impression it meant all of my appts would effectively be doubled, meeting with both a midwife and consultant. Doesn't seem to be the case anymore!

@Spark27 I think I have sciatica as well 😭 have this awful pain in my hip when I lay on it and it feels like my entire leg is burning.

Between sciatica, breaking out (even though I'm taking a break from makeup), occasional nausea...not feeling like the most glam pregnant lady at the minute. Where is my glow?!

Buzz22 · 14/04/2020 16:00

Hi ladies.
I'd really suggest chasing up the antenatal department for consultant appointments. It's a bit concerning to be told you will be consultant led but not to have any appointments booked yet.
By comparison to some of you I appear to be pretty lucky on the appointment front.
I have a 16 week consultant appointment booked and 16 week appointment with the midwife (unsure whether this is over the phone or not yet). The midwife booked that for me at my previous appointment.
I've also had a second cervical length scan booked with a different consultant for 5 weeks time. So far I've had 1 appointment with the consultant obstetrician and 1 with the fetal medicine consultant.
I imagine things are a bit all over the place due to circumstances but I really would try ringing to check. Or at least ask your midwife to chase it up for you.

I am also struggling with food due to heartburn. I'm constantly downing bottles of gaviscon!
Finding it especially hard to eat bread or potatoes or pasta. I can manage maybe 1 slice of toast during the day. For dinner it has to be chicken and some salad or veg. Anything heavier than that and the heartburn kicks in and I feeling unbelievably bloated and uncomfortable. Is this just me?

Buzz22 · 14/04/2020 16:02

Ahh and I forgot to say my hospital is doing whooping cough vaccines at the same time and place as 20 week scan. I was told this at my 12 week scan though so I assume if it was the same for any of you they would have let you know.
Last time I went to my GP surgery for whooping cough and flu but I guess they are trying to kill as many birds as possible with one hospital visit at the moment.

Indigogirl88 · 14/04/2020 16:41

Oooh that's good to know @Buzz22

I'm not feeling myself today, I've gone right off milk but fancied a cuppa then it tasted yuk. I'm lacking motivation in all departments haha

Maybe just eat a cream egg and get an early night

Has anyone felt any flutters yet?

I thought I felt one then other day but cant be sure!

MrsD1990 · 14/04/2020 16:46

@indigogirl88 haven't felt any flutters yet - can't wait though!!! This is my first so might be a while yet for me before I feel anything

Lucylou37 · 14/04/2020 17:05

@@Buzz22 is there any specific reason you have to have a cervical length scan!sorry to ask just wondered if this was a routine thing?

Buzz22 · 14/04/2020 17:21

@Lucylou37 no dont worry, its not routine. We lost our first baby at 22 weeks last November due to PPROM (pre term premature rupture of membranes) so the fetal medicine consultant measures cervical length every so often to see if its shortening. This can give them some indication of premature labour. Although mine was likely due to ongoing bleeding or an infection so not an incompetent cervix. I think they are just being thorough, but its reassuring anyway and its nice as they do me an extra tummy scan before the internal one so I get another sneak at baby!
I know they also do them for people that have had surgery to the cervix or some types of treatment for abnormal cells after smear test. So if you have had either if those then ask the midwife and she should book you for one.

NWnature · 14/04/2020 17:31

Hey guys hope everyone had a nice long weekend. I’m not sure how I am going to survive til 20 week scan before hearing heartbeat and checking everything looking ok again. I wish there was an app you could just scan your stomach like a barcode.

I’ve been feeling less sick but I think I generally got off relatively lightly. Still look rough but that could be just be the lockdown impact on hair and nails and ODing on biscuits and Easter eggsGrin!!!

I have been inhaling Worcester sauce French fries. Obsessed.

Also got some Fybrogel fibre supplements from amazon to keep things moving!

@buzz22 hope the heartburn eases up!

Lucylou37 · 14/04/2020 17:51

@Buzz22 I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! I had some treatment for abnormal cells
On my cervix but they didn't mention anything! I did have some very faint bleeding a week ago, and had a scan and all was fine but might mention it at my appointment next week! I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks so much for sharing your story xxx

Buzz22 · 14/04/2020 20:04

@Lucylou37 yes speak to the midwife about the abnormal cell treatment. I dont know enough to tell you what requires the extra cervix scan in those cases. I think its treatment that removes quite a bit of the cervix (cone biopsy?) rather than the laser /heat treatment but I'm not sure sorry.
I also had some bleeding this pregnancy and its usually nothing to worry about. If you've had a scan and everything was fine chances are massively in your favour. Last pregnancy I bled heavily...TMI but I mean gushing blood with huge clots from around week 7-10 then again weeks 16 till they day I delivered at 22 weeks. So please don't be scared by my bleeding story and there was also an infection present that was found in the amniotic fluid post mortem but they cant tell the actual cause of my waters breaking.
Small amounts of bleeding are totally normal. I had a day of light bleeding this pregnancy too and all was fine on the scan. So long as you've had a viable pregnancy and heartbeat on the scan and the bleeding has eased off I'm sure you'll be totally fine. X

Lucylou37 · 14/04/2020 21:42

Hi @Buzz22 thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I'll try and speak with someone tomorrow, just so it's on their radar, it can't harm! I hope you've had a nice relaxing evening and it sounds like you're having some great care at the moment xxxx

roarfeckingroar · 14/04/2020 22:25

Hi guys

I'm in the late Oct group but probably belong more in this one - I thought my EDD was going to be 30th October but it's actually the 11th!

How's everyone feeling? I'm starting to show a little - first baby.

Quiffy · 15/04/2020 08:18

@Lucylou37 Does your area have an NHS maternity page? Mine have been really good for updating the page on what the latest news is re: scans and appointments being in person or via phone. Just when you're struggling to get through. I have seen a good few ladies saying they're getting their 16 week in person though.

@Aquablue1123 I'm with you on the sickness and tired. I spent yesterday being sick and sleeping. How are you feeling today?

@Zaalfruit @otterbaby my consultant told me I wouldnt need to see her again until 37 weeks unless I specifically asked. The midwifes are booking all the extra appointments I need in for scans etc. If you've not been told I'd ask the midwife.

@roarfeckingroar hello! First here too and I think I'm showing a bit. Strange times to be having a first baby

I think I'm getting round ligament pain. I've got a tightness in my groin/lower abdomen that occasionally goes into shooting pains. Although I may have pulled something being sick urgh.

Has everyone got 20 week scan appointments now?

BntTowers · 15/04/2020 08:47

@quiffy I get a little bit of what I think is round ligament pain. When rolling over in bed and standing up too quick.

My 20 week appointment was booked at my 12 week one. Not until the very end of May when I'll be 20+1.

I'm so tired at the moment I'm really struggling to get through the day. DH makes me feel a bit bad because he's sat next to me constantly working and I need to keep taking breaks.

Buzz22 · 15/04/2020 08:59

@Lucylou37 sorry I think my previous posts are bit confusing! The cervical length scans are done at a pre term labour clinic. I'm high risk as my waters broke early last time and we lost baby. The bleeding I had last time a possible cause of my waters breaking but it could have been an infection. They wont see you at pre term labour for bleeding. But definitely do speak to midwife about your abnormal cell treatment. They will know whether you need cervical scan. It's certainly best to be safe and ask. Good luck! It feels very overwhelming especially given the current circumstances and people not knowing whether appointments are going ahead. Especially if it is your first pregnancy xx

@Quiffy my 20 week scan was booked at my 12 week. My hospital does seem.to be very on the ball with appointments. Feel lucky to not have to chase anything up. And sorry you are still feeling sick. I hope it passes asap!

@roarfeckingroar hello and welcome! Everyone here is so lovely and helpful.

@BntTowers I'm with you on the tiredness. By the afternoon I feel done in! I'm still getting dizzy spells if I do too much. Feel a bit pathetic and useless!
