Rang the doctors where my midwife unit is and they said I should have rung by now as they didnt even know I was pregnant (doesn't anyone talk to anyone) anyway shes put me down for a midwife call to get the 16w booked in. Glad I rang now!

Spark27 · 08/04/2020 19:33

On the discussion of beds- I switched sides with DH for a few months as my side is close to the radiator and window and his has more space (it felt weird, was so pleased to move back). Its a good idea to get a good mattress protector to puppy pads (so much cheaper than maternity ones), as you leak and sweat so much post birth it could make the mattress a bit yuck.

I had DD in a moses basket in our room for the first 3 months (2nd hand moses basket but new mattress). After 3 months she was starting to get too big for it (she was a chunk) so we moved her to her room and her cot. Its early compared to the 6 months recommended, but she was getting too big. We rolled some muslins and positioned them under her sheet so it mimicked the shape of her moses basket to give her the reassurance. She settled and slept really well. We had a really good video monitor (I really recommend) so could see her throughout the night.

But obvs this is all personal preference and depends what works for you, your space and your baby

Zaalfruit · 08/04/2020 19:34

@BntTowers that is the cutest thing ever !! I love looking through online4baby.com - everything that looks cute I just want to get it 😂

@Spark27 will be good if you can can shed some knowledge to us first time mummies :) I have no clue to what’s good and waste full 😅

booroo · 08/04/2020 20:08

Pram wise I got an Icandy peach 3 last time and totally loved it!
It was really nice to push, super light and turned really easily in small areas.. also I have a lot of horses so it went off-roading really easily and coped with all sorts of terrain also it was super easy to adjust the handle for oh who are taller etc.. my top tip
For new mums would be more Muslin cloths than you even think you could need lol BlushGrin

Treaclepie19 · 08/04/2020 20:16

We had a mamas and papas armadillo flip xt last time and loved it. Might use the same one again or upgrade to the new version!

Quiffy · 09/04/2020 08:08

Guys, I'm loving all this advice. I didn't even think about the different heights for pram as there's over a foot between us. Or that you could get off-roading!! I had planned to get nursery furniture, pram and next to me (or similar) secondhand but all the local selling sites are (rightly) closed until all this is over. Hopefully, it's better in a few months and stick to plan.

@BntTowers that is super cute, looks ideal for sticking in the car and taking with you. The Star Wars Gap is very cute too and not 'too much'. We're massive comic book/MCU/Batman fans but even I cringe at some of the stuff you get.

@Spark27 I didnt even think about leaking or anything either. Really good advice! Will put a video monitor on my list for sure.

I need help. I can't stop buying things on eBay. Especially clothes. I know it's too early (sorry bad luck gods) and there's a good chance it's not a boy (although my gut screams yes) but there's still no stopping me. Tbf most are gender neutral in my eyes but I'm being a crazy head. I even got their Halloween present...

BntTowers · 09/04/2020 09:49

@Quiffy, we are both into Marvel/DC. Star wars isn't really my thing, but it's something else that DH geeks out over, no football shirt here, it will be nerd t-shirts all the way if he had his way. I think even if I'm two weeks over baby will be here just in time for Halloween. I love Halloween, going to have to see if I can get a little outfit for baby...

@Spark27 DH has been looking into video monitors good to know that someone who has used them thinks they are worth while.

Definitely need some advice from mums who have been there before, it's all so baffling!

Spark27 · 09/04/2020 10:22

@BntTowers, I'd always prefer video over movement sensor pads. I've heard the movement pads can give a lot of false alarms, and when the baby is that small they will be in the same room as you anyway.
And babies are noisy sleepers sonof they're in the same room as you you'll be hearing them constantly.
We've just moved DD up from the middle floor to the top floor and still use her video monitor. Now it's to check shes not destroying the place if shes up there playing.
We got a Vtech one. Cost about £150 but use it multiple times a day. The monitor stopped charging after about 18months but we managed to pick the same one up 2nd hand on Ebay for £40, and works fine. Bargin.

Ref muslins we had the small/normal ones for sick/milk/dribble and then some of the big ones for swaddling. We found our DD loved being swaddled at the beginning. Stopped the startle reflex and helped her sleep

Quiffy · 09/04/2020 10:27

@Bnttowers Snap! I don't get Star Wars at all. My dad is a major Star Wars and Doctor Who fan though. I adore Halloween too and always have the house decorated to the max - DH thinks it's stupid though as he's a wimp. I cannot wait to get a baby into Nightmare Before Christmas and the likes. There's also going to be a Civil War in the home as I adore Cap and DH adores Stark. Batman is my fave, though (we even had a "Night in Gotham" wedding) I'm not too fussed about the rest of DC though. I find WW, Superman and the likes a bit goody-two-shoes

I got this bat for Halloween, now I've just got to find the outfit too. I'm holding out on tk maxx opening again. They had such cute baby ones last year including a skunk

BntTowers · 09/04/2020 11:06

@Quiffy Cap all the way, I don't know what the fuss about Stark is all about. I'm sure tkmaxx will be open again soon. I'll have to look for a few Halloween bits, but I'm tempted to wait until very last minute as due date isn't until 17th.

I am on the verge of quitting my job at the moment, I just know I have to stick it out for a few more months. It's so frustrating and such a blame culture full of lazy people who can't be arsed to check up on things themselves. Definitely not going back after maternity. I'm sure I'll find something else.

Quiffy · 09/04/2020 11:39

@Bnttowers Defo wait, just in case they miss Halloween or you need something super tiny.

That's rubbish on your job, there is nothing worse than a job you hate though. At least you just have a few more months now and then it can be gone forever. Stay strong!

BntTowers · 09/04/2020 12:05

@Quiffy I would love for baby to have Halloween themed birthday parties, DH doesn't really get it.

Yeah I'm just waiting the job stuff out now, I have all my holiday for the year to use before Mat leave which would be 6 months work and now we aren't going on holiday in May I might move a second week back to start mat leave early. Also planning on going down to 4 days a week for about 6/7 weeks pre leaving.

Zaalfruit · 09/04/2020 12:41

Omg you are all saying about stuff I didn’t even think about !! Video
Monitors completely skipped my mind I’m not even sure how 🤣😂

Love all the Halloween stuff - @Quiffy I haven’t brought anything yet - I really want to but my husband like don’t you dare ! He thinks I will spiral out of control . My husband is football and loves all the Dc and marvel comics - I feel for my child 😂🤣 we have lots of mini figures of Dc and marvel on our stair case shelves that everyone loves to touch and it makes him so mad 🤣😂.

My 16 week check up got changed to a telephone call and they are suggesting the nurse might come round to do the blood test . Not sure how I feel about that :/

Spark27 · 09/04/2020 12:58

@Zaalfruit, what's the blood test for? Sorry if you've already said. I thought 16w check was urine, BP, possibly listening to HB (some places they do, some they dont), chat, etc.

Seems odd that they're happy for a nurse to come out to an unchecked environment (dont mean this to sound rude about yours!), when you could go to a controlled, PPE, drs.
I'm expecting when I see my mw next week for her to be in mask, gloves, etc. And i have to wait in the carpark for them to call me to the side door as the main reception is closed.

Zaalfruit · 09/04/2020 13:28

@Spark27 it’s to check my thyroid levels. I would rather go into the hospital and get my bloods done. I don’t get the point of me having a over the phone appointment as you can’t get blood tests done - can’t tell anything about the heart beat Or even measure the blood test . Feel like some trusts are completely leaving us in the dark - my doctor was annoyed that they cancelled my appointment with a specialist and rearranged it for August which is far to late . I hope my 20 week scan isn’t cancelled . I am thinking of getting one done privately.

Spark27 · 09/04/2020 13:41

Aaah, I see. Yeah, it does feel odd that different areas are doing different things. Surely we all require similar levels of care (depending on the categories we fall into)? My area are very keen on keeping the face-to-face appts due to the mental/emotional aspect. They told me people have been dressing up nice for them and talking for ages as it's their excuse to get out of the house Grin

I really dont see how they could cancel 20w scan as they are so important. They go through the baby top to toe, checking the development of everything. The 4 chambers of the heart, bowels, lens on the eyes, etc. Its so interesting and detailed and definitely needed.

Aquablue1123 · 09/04/2020 13:53

Wow!! Love all these tips! I haven't started any planning at all. We now know our babies gender which makes planning a little easier I suppose. I'm sure the DH will create a spreadsheet soon (he likes to do that :-))

I heard the DoonaUk pram was good, mainly for traveling, if you are in and out the car a lot.

I really have to stop eating chocolate now!! My diet isn't great at the moment and exercise keeps getting put on the back burner Confused

Indigogirl88 · 09/04/2020 14:12

I've not started anything @Aquablue1123 does waiting another 2 weeks for my pregnancy pillow count? 😂

I will look at pram reviews this weekend but I want to try before I buy really

BntTowers · 09/04/2020 14:30

@Aquablue1123 I'm really craving chocolate at the moment, the only stuff we have is an Easter egg each. At the moment I'm staying strong, doesn't help that everyone I go in the kitchen they are sat right there.

otterbaby · 09/04/2020 16:38

Having a good day today. Ordered a pair of maternity leggings online and they accidentally sent me two pairs. Doesn't take much to excite me these days 😂 the good thing about being at home is I don't have to mess on with a hair tie on my work trousers for a while! Anyone else living in leggings at the minute?

LexiM · 09/04/2020 16:49

@Indigogirl88 I really want to try too, it’s definitely not the same just reading online. Let’s hope we can before our babies get here.

@Aquablue1123

My jeans have slipped down now as are uncomfortable on my stomach, I’m definitely getting a little tum now as my strappy tops are starting to roll up and I’m 7lbs down on pre-pregnancy weight - which isn’t going to last long as I’m slowly getting my appetite back and love of chocolate!

Anyone got any idea on decent maternity jeans? I’m 5ft 9 and usually get tall in high street shops, so it’s hard when they all seem to be regular length.

@Aquablue1123 I’ve heard good things about the Doona too, although feel it’s a luxury if you can afford it on top of a regular car seat/pram as only any good for short trips in and out the car.

Notacareintheworld · 09/04/2020 17:42

Hey girls! Has really bad headaches recently so not been on fone much. I liked the look of the Stokke xplory and just happened to see exact one on gumtree with winter pack (different fluffy hood and cover) inc. bought it and regret it. Couldn’t get too close with current restrictions and when got it home pretty scratched up and worn. Paid £550 so a bit gutted as someone has since posted another which looks brand new 😩 oh well, done now! I called midwife as 15 wks on Mon, she just done my appt over phone, just said my bloods and urine (from booking apt) were normal but that I can surely change in (5 wks)! and that low risk for downs. She booked next appt which is 11th June and said she’ll hear baby’s heart beat and do bloods then xx

Notacareintheworld · 09/04/2020 17:42

Btw it’s Treacle81, dunno why that other user name has appeared! 🤷‍♀️xx

BntTowers · 09/04/2020 19:10

Hi,

I've just got in from my scan not so long ago. Everything is looking good and I'm a few more days ahead so now at 13 weeks. Baby wasn't playing ball at first and kept moving the wrong way, but managed to get all the measurements eventually. I'm so happy and relieved!

Early Oct babies part 3!
Applesandlemons · 09/04/2020 19:33

I’m back! Been offline for a while as my morning sickness has been really rough. Feel like it’s lifting a little now I’m hitting 12weeks.

Had my 12wk scan yesterday and all seems ok just been telling some family today which has been a lot more overwhelming than I thought I’ve become so used to it being a ‘secret.’ Honestly drank so much water but they couldn’t see much as apparently my womb is retroverted so had it completed transvaginally.

Hope everyone’s doing well and lockdown isn’t making you too crazy :)

Is anyone else going mad for sweet things? I have become addicted to sparkling rubicon mango drink!
