Placenta Previa, please ease my anxiety

Hi all
So, 20 week scan yesterday, baby perfect. Sonographer casually mentioned placenta is blocking the exit, covering the os. Had no idea what he was on about, just happy baby was okay. He said it can increase the risk of needing a section, I'm having a planned section anyhow so didn't think anything of it. Had a 2 minute after appointment with a midwife who said any bleeding I must immediately come into hospital, if it's heavy then 999 ambulance. I was a bit shocked to ask any questions and she hurried me out of the door saying I'd have a scan at 30 weeks and hopefully it's not previa anymore.
I promised myself I would not Google.
So obviously I googled last night and I am now a complete mess of anxiety. Convinced myself if I have sex or a long walk I'm going to bleed out and die on the spot leaving my beautiful 3 year old daughter and husband behind.
I've had a tough start to this pregnancy with HG and it had finally eased up and I was enjoying my life again. Now I'm terrified. I can't find out if I should rest/avoid sex etc NOW or if it hasn't changed by next scan.
Please can anyone share/comfort/virtual shake me?

Fingers crossed for freedom today! I'm very impressed you have a previa bag.....i do notConfused but maybe i should.

I understand what you mean about a close family. Not everyone understands you dont want a night to yourself but I'm the same

SapphosRock · 08/03/2020 07:33

Aw not clingy and weird at all to be missing your family. The horrible thing about the bleeds is they are so sudden aren't they? No time to mentally prepare for being in hospital for the night.

Oh yes partners staying overnight can be annoying can't they Angry make sure you get yourself some breakfast before all the men eat it!

Yes I'm so glad to have made it to 35 weeks. I was expecting to bleed again but nothing at all even though scans show cervix still completely blocked by placenta.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 08/03/2020 07:34

Sorry to hear you had a bleed @mamabearthius. Hope you are feeling ok. Try to rest and not worry too much Thanks

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 07:50

Haha I felt like I was embarking my inner Monica with the bags but I'm glad I did. Previa bag is comfy clothes, books, charger, snacks, nice mini creams etc I've accumulated
I was so much calmer about the bleed than I thought I'd be. We were having a lazy morning in bed, I got up and went to the loo, noticed I was bleeding, calmly passed my phone to my husband with 999 already pressed (little one is very perceptive) and got myself dressed and ready, popped the dogs in the kitchen so they didn't bother the paramedics, was very calm and logical. Reassuring thing is, they arrived literally within minutes, I got straight in the ambulance and we were greeted immediately at maternity. Probably 10 minutes after they arrived at mine. The anethethasist(sp) whacked a canular in my hand pretty aggressively however and I now can't use my hand at all, moving/bending makes me scream. Hope that it's just a bit of a trauma and goes away when they remove it (the canula, not my hand)

I bled at 23, 27, 31, 32 and 35 weeks. I was allowed home after 2 days apart from the last. I was kept in for a week that time and then had my CS at 36 weeks. I was first on the list that day but had a bleed so had a EMCS 3 hours before.
Had the steroids at 31 weeks- it stings but worth it.
My advice is do nothing. Total bed rest with the odd potter around the house to prevent DVT. I watched 10 seasons of Gray’s anatomy!
Good luck.

Thanks for sharing
Still waiting on dr's to do their rounds
Did anything trigger the bleeds for you? I overdid it Friday I think, worked in the morning then went on quite a long walk and was getting cramps and Braxton hicks I think.

The first time I had worked a full day and done antenatal Pilates.
After that my consultant signed me off and told me to do nothing otherwise there was a high risk we’d have a very premature baby.
You need to stop work and start resting.

Wannabegreenfingers · 08/03/2020 11:51

I had this twice, bleed heavily 9 times with my 1st, back of an ambulance twice. Healthy baby boy born naturally at 35 weeks (placenta did move). 2nd no issues and born one day naturally before due date again placenta moved,. Healthy girl. Number one was scary, but all turned out ok. Had no sex with either pregnancy as adviser by the hospital x

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 11:53

Thank you lovely ones
I can go home later today if no further bleeding
Husband going to be off work looking after me and our little girl

How long til your next scan @MamaBearThius? Have you escaped hospital yet? Part of me wishes they would sign me off work but actually work is probably more restful than being at home with the toddler Grin

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 14:06

Within the next 2 weeks.
I can escape this evening if no more red bleeds.
I'm just hoping the weather stays okay ish and I can spend the next few weeks laying around the garden watching little one play while husband potters

Snowbear20 · 08/03/2020 17:07

Fingers crossed you make your great escape this evening! Im guessing they didn't offer you a cheeky scan while you were there?

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 17:46

Ha no! Just got home. Reaaaaally anxious but I keep telling myself they'll come and get me again if needs be...which isn't definitely going to happen again. Scan will be next Monday they think. Not sure what that'll be for...

Must be lovely being home, has your husbands work been supportive if hes needed time off?

MamaBearThius · 10/03/2020 09:36

I'm really unsettled to be honest. Feel like I'm just waiting for the next bleed. Yeah work is all good. I've got my scan today, it's been brought forward as an emergency apparently. Think they want to see how developed she is, incase of delivery, also where exactly the pesky placenta is. I'll update this afternoon/evening when I'm home
Got to say the support on here is wonderful. Thank you all. It's lonely worrying by yourself

Hi saw the title to your post and thought I would come on to share my experience .
I had pp and ended up in hospital with a fairly large bleed when I was about 32 weeks pregnant.
This was 34 years ago . Back then they were graded from 1 -4 ( I think) grade 1 was a definite cs , grade 2 most likely , etc.
I was graded 2 and put on immediate hospital bed rest in my own room . I had a 3 year old at home so my dh and mum took over looking after her , and because the hospital wasn't my most local one as I had to go to the next town for the extra care - I only got to see her about 3 times a week .
I was kept in hospital until I was induced at 38 weeks ( due to high blood pressure ! ) and thankfully it had moved enough for me to have a normal delivery .
Good luck ladies Flowers

MamaBearThius · 10/03/2020 10:28

Thanks Namethecat. I'm already having a section so that side of things I'm fine with. No bed rest, infact they said carry on as normal Hmm but I'm taking things easier anyway

Found this post while obsessively looking for placenta previa posts! Nice to find a current one. Hope you're doing OK OP x

Mine was picked up at 20w scan, now 23 weeks. Seen midwife today and she explained my situation so feeling calmer! Sonographer made it sound like total coverage, unlikely to move but midwife read notes and said only tip covering os so good chance will move. Feeling much better now as I have a 15m old and dread any suggestion of bed rest!!

Midwife only said to avoid sex, nothing else at moment. I see consultant and have scan in 5 weeks, hoping no bleeds in meantime!

MamaBearThius · 10/03/2020 19:07

Hey @Sprintfinish =)
Had a scan today, nothing much to report other than she is 2.4lbs! Placenta still completely covering. Another scan at 32 weeks if no more bleeds. Feel really unsettled at home. Woke at midnight in a complete sweat, think a panic attack. Hope I can relax tonight. How's everyone else?

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 10/03/2020 21:29

Still plodding along with no change. Awaiting the next scan to see what the situation is.

That sounds hard work, try not to stress too much, like you said they will come get you again if you have another bleed and you will be well taken care of

MamaBearThius · 11/03/2020 06:11

Pleased you're plodding! When is your next scan? Hope yours has shifted.

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 11/03/2020 07:50

They moved my next scan to next Wednesday as I'd had a private one so added an extra week in.

Are you feeling calmer at home now?

MamaBearThius · 11/03/2020 08:50

Oh that's not too long to wait. How many weeks will you be?
A little bit thank you, I can't settle though. Feel unexplainably mad with my husband too. He obviously had to stay home with our daughter on Saturday but I think I'm mad I went in an ambulance on my own. How that I write that down I realise I'm being unreasonable. I may go and make him a coffee Blush
