Placenta Previa, please ease my anxiety

Hi all
So, 20 week scan yesterday, baby perfect. Sonographer casually mentioned placenta is blocking the exit, covering the os. Had no idea what he was on about, just happy baby was okay. He said it can increase the risk of needing a section, I'm having a planned section anyhow so didn't think anything of it. Had a 2 minute after appointment with a midwife who said any bleeding I must immediately come into hospital, if it's heavy then 999 ambulance. I was a bit shocked to ask any questions and she hurried me out of the door saying I'd have a scan at 30 weeks and hopefully it's not previa anymore.
I promised myself I would not Google.
So obviously I googled last night and I am now a complete mess of anxiety. Convinced myself if I have sex or a long walk I'm going to bleed out and die on the spot leaving my beautiful 3 year old daughter and husband behind.
I've had a tough start to this pregnancy with HG and it had finally eased up and I was enjoying my life again. Now I'm terrified. I can't find out if I should rest/avoid sex etc NOW or if it hasn't changed by next scan.
Please can anyone share/comfort/virtual shake me?

About 33/34 i think (completely lost track to be honest!). Just like to get it done now though. It should have been this week.

Haha hormones can be blamed for that. I get wound up about nothing at the moment.

MamaBearThius · 11/03/2020 11:23

Oooh you're so close!
Meh shitty hormones. I'm so sick of them! Hard to believe this will actually be over and we will have babies Grin

I know, I'm getting quite nervous about the jump from 1-2 now Blush

Hoping DC2 is that legendary laid back second child.

MamaBearThius · 11/03/2020 18:57

Meeeeep. How old is your...what's the word? Current child? Existing child? Blush my words don't work so well these days...baby brain?

Will be 2 just before due date! How old is your little girl?

MamaBearThius · 12/03/2020 09:58

She'll be 4 in a few weeks!

Snowbear20 · 12/03/2020 11:19

Aww amazing, is she excited to be a big sister?

MamaBearThius · 12/03/2020 11:54

She so excited Grin she has those innocent smoothie cartons and keeps saving me some "you drink it Mama then my baby sister can have some" so cute. How about your little one? Do they understand?

Hope maternity services aren't affected by all of this madness =(
We are self isolating due to achey, coughy throaty type illness. Also breathless but not sure if that's a pregnant thing. Better to be cautious. Actually getting decent rest, and gentle pottering round the house is quite nice. Hope the weather improves and we can have garden days. Everyone else okay?

I had a bad experience. At 17 weeks I was kept in hospital for bleeding out on the bathroom floor. They said placenta should move by 30 weeks.
At 22 weeks I ended up unconscious on my bathroom floor, 12 month old crying, for hours until luckily my husband finished work 2 hours later and found us. I lost nearly 3 litres of blood. I nearly died and it was the worse thing I ever went through. My son born too soon, died a few hours after he was delivered. (Few days later after said incident) I also had a big hematoma however.

My friend has placenta Previa. Placenta didn't move. She had c section at 36 weeks and had some bleeding but nothing dramatic! All was good.

Most stories I've heard/witnessed have been all good with medical attention and doctors keeping an eye on you.

Btw this was last year. I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and everything is seemingly normal and fine. Don't google. Xx

Snowbear20 · 13/03/2020 19:52

Im trying to stay relaxed about the maternity services being stretched, i think post natal care may be worse but i think safety will be there still. I do expect if my placenta hasnt moved I'll be pushed diwn the vbac route

Misty999 · 13/03/2020 20:01

Yes I had this at 20 weeks had moved by by next scan x

MamaBearThius · 13/03/2020 20:31

@alwaysmoody I'm so so sorry for the loss of your baby and your awful experience. Sounds horrendous. Pleased you're okay now.
@Snowbear20 do you mean if it has moved? Got everything crossed for you on Wednesday! Hope scan services are still accessible by then. Which area of the country are you in? Do you want a VBAC? I'm a bit worried about the aftercare too. Especially as mine should be May, just before the estimated peak. But, our maternity hospital is a seperate building to the main hospital, which is a comfort as it shouldn't be too affected? Trying to keep calm but it's a worry isn't it Flowers

Snowbear20 · 13/03/2020 21:15

No idea if its moved til the scan. A VBAC scares me as its the unknown and i was hoping for an ELCS but im willing to go for it if thats what they geniunely need me to do. Ah thats great its a seperate building, ours isn't at all Confused. Ive not heard anything about scanning services shutting?!

Going to push to be signed off work on Wednesday if its not moved as I'll feel safer not risking a section whilst virusy.

MamaBearThius · 13/03/2020 22:57

No I mean I was clarifying what you meant when you said "if my placenta hasn't moved I'll be pushed down the vbac route"
Pretty confident maternity services will be left alone, it's not like we can be postponed is it! Sounds good to be signed off, can you take maternity a bit early? I think a section is still the best option as they know it'll be done on a certain date, whereas even with induction it can take days and days and still end up in a section. It'll be over with soon and we can enjoy our babies Smile

Not heard anything to indicate weds will be off so remaining hopeful i will have an answer. Got a horrendously teething toddler though so had to have a no nursery day (no temp or cough but just unhappy) so I'm pretty much wiped out and not expecting tomorrow to be any better

They wont induce after a C sec around here thankfully Smile

How are you getting on?

MamaBearThius · 16/03/2020 16:31

Meeeeep really hope for you good news for you Wednesday! Is it a morning scan? Teething sucks =( full sympathy

OP posts:
MamaBearThius · 18/03/2020 09:47

@Snowbear20 is your scan still going ahead?

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 18/03/2020 12:44

Just walked out, had some serious jumping around to do to get him to move himself so she could see but yes! Its moved!

How are you doing?

MamaBearThius · 18/03/2020 13:26

Woohoo!! Yay for you. Really really happy for you Grin
I'm a bit low today to be honest, prospect of isolating for 12 weeks is sinking in. Worried about treatment of I have another bleed, shortage of doctors etc. Having a rainy dog walk to try and cheer up

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 18/03/2020 13:33

Its not ideal isolating but then I'm confident on walks i can do where i avoid others entirely and also it will be worth it to do so. Its mainly keeping the toddler busy that scares me!

You are stronger than you know and in 5 years time you will get to recount the epic birth story in the face of the most obscure situation we could possibly be facing

MamaBearThius · 19/03/2020 08:43

Oh yeah, I completely agree with the isolating, we've been doing it ourselves for well over a week already. Just the length of it seems bleak. Have you got a garden? We are really lucky with ours and apparently the weather is going to be semi decent. So can play out most days (supervise from my sun lounger). There's some good indoor craft/play ideas on the internet too. We are going to have ago at making our own playdoh soon. It's my little girl's 4th birthday soon, that'll be hard trying to make it as exciting as possible...

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 19/03/2020 09:25

Yeah we have one, only small but I'm not going to complain 😊 I'm wondering about ordering birthday gifts for DC1 now so theyre sorted just in case we don't get chance to go out and find things

Ooh some sunshine would be lovely. I might try to cobble together some outside toys from unused wooden furniture maybe.

MamaBearThius · 19/03/2020 14:20

Good plan! Not sure where in the country you are but we are Lincoln and it's set to be mildly sunny and dry for the next few weeks
