Placenta Previa, please ease my anxiety

Hi all
So, 20 week scan yesterday, baby perfect. Sonographer casually mentioned placenta is blocking the exit, covering the os. Had no idea what he was on about, just happy baby was okay. He said it can increase the risk of needing a section, I'm having a planned section anyhow so didn't think anything of it. Had a 2 minute after appointment with a midwife who said any bleeding I must immediately come into hospital, if it's heavy then 999 ambulance. I was a bit shocked to ask any questions and she hurried me out of the door saying I'd have a scan at 30 weeks and hopefully it's not previa anymore.
I promised myself I would not Google.
So obviously I googled last night and I am now a complete mess of anxiety. Convinced myself if I have sex or a long walk I'm going to bleed out and die on the spot leaving my beautiful 3 year old daughter and husband behind.
I've had a tough start to this pregnancy with HG and it had finally eased up and I was enjoying my life again. Now I'm terrified. I can't find out if I should rest/avoid sex etc NOW or if it hasn't changed by next scan.
Please can anyone share/comfort/virtual shake me?

I think you’re catastrophising. I had this, iirc completely covering os. Moved in time as is most likely for you. Just no weight lifting and straight to hospital if bleed. Don’t worry x

MamaBearThius · 23/02/2020 07:58

Thanks for your message. I'm pretty chilled about it all now. I am less likely to be one of the lucky ones however as my placenta is posterior, completely blocking the os and I've had a previous section plus other surgeries causing scar tissue. But what will be will be. In a couple of months it'll all be over with and I'll have a load new worries to fret about!

Well, my placenta is yet to move, still no issues though so I'm finding it hard to not just go back to a bit more exercise and things but I'll continue to be good

MamaBearThius · 25/02/2020 19:09

When did you have a scan @Snowbear20?
I'm struggling with no exercise, I've gained quite a bit since finding out. I'm guessing walks will be fine, just need the weather to improve and I'll get back out. Missing swimming

Snowbear20 · 25/02/2020 19:10

You can swim safely I've been told and ive done loads of walking. Had s private scan today after having to delay the last one

MamaBearThius · 26/02/2020 08:16

Really??? I was told swimming and sex were the big no no's?? Oooh this could be a game changer, thank you. Although my poor swimsuit will be bursting, my bump is insanely big for 25, weeks!!
Sorry your scan showed yours hasn't moved, when is your NHS one?

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 26/02/2020 10:34

Midwife said she couldn't see why a gentle swim would be any more of an issue than walking.....but maybe they all have different opinions! We were told no sex too, which is frustrating Blush

In a few weeks, hopefully it might have decided to by then! Although I'm accepting of another c section if thats what is safest

MamaBearThius · 26/02/2020 11:05

It's a killer isn't it. Other stuff is all well and good but the logistics of things are rather complicated with a bump aren't they! Fingers crossed for your next scan. I'm going to book a private one for 30 weeks I think.
I'll ask about swimming, although I'd be mortified If I had a bleed in the water

MamaBearThius · 28/02/2020 09:04

@Snowbear20 you said "another section" so I'm assuming you've had a section before? Me too, any tips on how to stop baby kicking the scar? It's making me nearly throw up when she does it!

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 29/02/2020 06:58

I have teeny feet up under my ribs so i cant help you there I'm afraid.....i can't even get DC1 to stop kicking me there Hmm

MamaBearThius · 29/02/2020 07:21

Haha it's all fun isn't it! She's shifted now, maybe she understood! It's weird, I had an anterior placenta with my first so didn't really feel or see that much movement, little bits on my sides. On a night I look like Alien is trying to escape! Can't imagine how much stronger their going to get either. How are you feeling? I'm pretty much over this, never comfortable. Waiting for nicer weather as I've got a wardrobe full of oversized maxi dresses I can just floopse around in Grin

How's everyone doing?

nsav · 07/03/2020 09:57

Hey. Had my 20w scan yesterday and have the same issue. I’ve got a scan at 32 weeks! But I wouldn’t worry because it can move by then :)

MamaBearThius · 07/03/2020 11:48

Bleed for me just after posting this morning
999 ambulance arrived within minutes
Big fuss on arrival at hospital with consultants and midwives. On a monitor now and nil by mouth just incase

Update
Bleeding stopped so kept in for monitoring but no delivery which is a massive relief. Scary morning and emotional to be away from my little girl and husband. Will be assessed by doctors tomorrow, hopefully sent home...will update. Scary as everyone was prepped for surgery as I arrived

How many weeks along are you now MamaBearThuis?

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 06:59
  1. No red blood since yesterday morning but still brown clotty stuff when I wipe - normal? Feeling pretty low in here, not too comfortable sleeping around strange men the other side of a paper curtain
OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 08/03/2020 07:03

I didnt realise they would deliver that early with a bleed! I have no idea if its normal, so far all has been calm on that front thankfully here.

Im not surprised you can't sleep, I dont think hospitals are particularly conducive to proper rest

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 07:09

I didn't either, only when I saw the same midwife later and noticed she had got changed, she said yes we were all prepped in our scrubs to take you to surgery if the bleed had been worse or not stopped. Scary. They said she would have most likely been okay, but would have gone up to special baby care to be looked after. Very pleased she's still tucked up safe. Not sure when drs do their rounds, especially on a Sunday but will ask about the brown stuff. Probably just old. My cervix was closed yesterday. Sorry for rambling, it's lonely here

Flowers Have you had the steroids yet? I had loads of bleeds including from 24 weeks but DS hung on until 36 weeks, hope baby stays in!
MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 07:20

Thank you Flowers
No, there was a lady in scrubs with the steroid injection but I didn't end up having it when they saw my cervix was closed. Did you go home in between the bleeds? Did they get worse?

OP posts:
Snowbear20 · 08/03/2020 07:20

Oh wow! Well every extra day she is still tucked up is a bonus. Yeah i bet it is, did you manage to grab some things to do when you left? Hopefully you will be anle to go home today

SapphosRock · 08/03/2020 07:22

Oh MamaBear sorry you had a bleed. Was hoping you'd be one of the lucky ones.

They've put you on a mixed sex ward??!

Hopefully you'll be able to go home today, with my bleeds they kept me in for 24 - 48 hours.

Brown blood is a good sign.

Also, last time I was in hospital they said they only deliver in about 1/10 cases of bleeding due to placenta previa.

My last bleed was at 28 weeks, am 35 weeks now and nothing since. C section booked for 2 weeks time.

Rest up Thanks

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 07:25

Husband and 3 year old daughter came up last night and brought my Previa bag (yep, I packed a Previa bag and a baby/me bag)
I sobbed when they left, just as a Dr was walking past. He seemed very concerned, asked if I was okay. I explained I'm fine just emotional as my husband had just left. He assumed I meant left me as in left me left me so I had to have a very odd conversation through my snotty tears...not my finest moment. They're coming back up this morning, I'm clock watching. May sound clingy/weird but we are not a separate family, we naturally prefer to be together just us 3 (soon to be 4)

MamaBearThius · 08/03/2020 07:28

@SapphosRock no such luck I'm afraid. Awesome for you you haven't bled since, keep me updated? I like the positive stories.
Not a mixed ward no it's the pre and post birth ward so everyone else has got their partner staying over. Noisily. I'm not usually uptight at all but it's really making me uncomfortable.
