Placenta Previa, please ease my anxiety

Hi all
So, 20 week scan yesterday, baby perfect. Sonographer casually mentioned placenta is blocking the exit, covering the os. Had no idea what he was on about, just happy baby was okay. He said it can increase the risk of needing a section, I'm having a planned section anyhow so didn't think anything of it. Had a 2 minute after appointment with a midwife who said any bleeding I must immediately come into hospital, if it's heavy then 999 ambulance. I was a bit shocked to ask any questions and she hurried me out of the door saying I'd have a scan at 30 weeks and hopefully it's not previa anymore.
I promised myself I would not Google.
So obviously I googled last night and I am now a complete mess of anxiety. Convinced myself if I have sex or a long walk I'm going to bleed out and die on the spot leaving my beautiful 3 year old daughter and husband behind.
I've had a tough start to this pregnancy with HG and it had finally eased up and I was enjoying my life again. Now I'm terrified. I can't find out if I should rest/avoid sex etc NOW or if it hasn't changed by next scan.
Please can anyone share/comfort/virtual shake me?

Rarrrrrr Angry
I've been up since 3am so probably over reacting. Scan today showed she's estimated at 8lbs 6 currently. Section planned for 39 weeks. But if my sugars aren't controlled by Monday, I'll need to go on insulin which would mean a section at 38 weeks. A section at 38 weeks needs steroids, which can sky rocket blood sugars so will need to go in for a few days before the section for an insulin Infusion Sad still zero visiting so potentially 5/6 days with not seeing my husband and little girl! I've just had a big fat cry. Feeling very sorry for myself. Mission now is to keep the diabetes at bay and last til 39 weeks. 3 more weeks of pain Sad

Hey, how are you getting on? Still pregnant here Sad

MamaBearThius · 16/05/2020 20:22

Did my previous rant load? On Thursday?

Snowbear20 · 16/05/2020 21:08

Yeah about the GD? Have you managed to avoid insulin?

MamaBearThius · 16/05/2020 22:00

So far yeah. Have to email my results on Monday and they'll make a decision. How pregnant are you now? When do you know if a section or not?
I've also now got an infected wisdom tooth. Beyond grumpy Angry

@MamaBearThius I’ve just found this thread - I’m 29 weeks with GD, my placenta is low lying, and I’ve just had to start meds as can’t keep my sugars under control. Just wanted to say hi and good luck Flowers

MamaBearThius · 16/05/2020 22:21

Hi =) sorry to hear you're not having fun either! Good luck to you too. Is it your first baby?

HelloViroids · 16/05/2020 22:30

Yep, have been pregnant once before but ended in a MMC. Am also at increased risk of pre eclampsia - so grateful to be having a baby but feel like I’m just doing so badly at being pregnant Confused Are you 36 weeks?

MamaBearThius · 16/05/2020 23:00

So sorry for your MC. I lost our first little girl, no pain like it.
Also at risk of preeclampsia- I had the symptoms last time. Isn't it so funny how some women don't even know their pregnant! I've felt every damn second of this so far! Yep 36 weeks, 04/06 is C-section day unless my sugars become out if control. I honestly don't know how I can keep growing for another 3 weeks!

I had it with my 2nd pregnancy, was definitely in the ignorance is bliss camp at the time and all was fine at my late scan at 30 odd + weeks.

Mummyspider27 · 17/05/2020 07:03

It was great reading this, however so odd how different hospitals advise different things. At my 20 week scan I was told mine was low lying, was asked if I wanted an internal scan, I said if I needed one of course I would but would prefer not (have been through 2 miscarriages and 4 rounds of IVF plus a frozen transfer so I’m so ‘over’ internals), sonographer was fine and said they would check again at 32 weeks (have a scan then anyway due to other things), and that was it. No warnings about bleeding, no advice on pelvic rest, nothing, was really barely mentioned.
Fast forward to last week at 31 weeks I went in for reduced movement, after on the monitoring machine for a while a Dr did a quick bedside scan, showed placenta still low. Got an appointment this week at 32 weeks which will include an internal and a proper look at how low the placenta is.
Just find it strange how much of a warning some of you were given and advice on if you bled etc and I was told nothing! X

MamaBearThius · 17/05/2020 08:01

@TheTeenageYears I'd love some blissful ignorance!
@Mummyspider27 what a journey you've been on! Flowers congratulations! Especially in this hideous new world we seem to be living in, all be worth it in a couple of months and you hold your baby Smile
Does it say on your notes about your Placenta? Mine was complete Previa which is why I was given so much warning I think. Although now it's 13mm away and they still told me no sex Hmm when is your scan?

OP posts:
Mummyspider27 · 17/05/2020 08:07

It doesn’t say on my notes... it says low lying placenta appears to cover os internal scan declined!! Annoyed me slightly as she was so casual about it I didn’t give it a second thought! If I needed it, I would have obviously had one!
Scan on Tuesday, will have internal this time. Have consultant after so guess will find out more then...
did you have an internal scan at 20 weeks? X

MamaBearThius · 17/05/2020 08:27

Nope no internal scan, there was talk of one as I've had a previous section so there may have been risk of the placenta attaching to the scar.
I'm sure you'll be fine, just take it easy! And any sign of bleeding get straight to maternity! 999 if necessary. You will be prioritised top!

OP posts:
Mummyspider27 · 17/05/2020 08:30

Another difference, I was told they wouldn’t be able to tell if it was covering without an internal but they diagnosed yours without. Odd.
I have also had a previous section and a D&C following miscarriage they both of those seem to add to the risk of it.
Thanks for the advice, I will. And I will pack a bag too!! X

MamaBearThius · 17/05/2020 17:29

That's so strange Hmm
Hope you get on okay on Tuesday! Yes pack a bag definitely, I had a stay in hospital after a big bleed at 26 weeks. Fortunately for me that was before all of this and my husband and little girl could visit, but now it's no visitors make sure you've got everything you'd need x

OP posts:
Mummyspider27 · 17/05/2020 18:36

I have packed today!! Not the babies bag yet, but if he comes early he won’t fit in any of it yet anyway!! Yeah have packed aware that there will be no visitors (and many a snack!!!) xx

MamaBearThius · 17/05/2020 19:23

I need to add snacks to my bag - thanks for the reminder!

OP posts:
HelloViroids · 17/05/2020 21:45

@MamaBearThius there’s a good list of GD hospital bag snacks here in case you have t seen www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/hospital-bag-list/

MamaBearThius · 17/05/2020 22:22

I darent look...I'm guessing there's no Doritos on there though Blush

HelloViroids · 17/05/2020 22:55

Grin I don’t think so sorry!

tinytemper66 · 17/05/2020 23:00

I bled at 27 weeks when they found the placenta was over the os.
I stayed in hospital until I was 34 weeks and delivered by emergency c section. I had many bleeds in hospital. This was in 1995.
My son was in NICU for a month but is fine and in the military. Good luck.

MamaBearThius · 18/05/2020 11:10

To be fair, I'm staying below all the target numbers - less than 5.3 on a morning and less than 7.8 after a meal so I'm not classing myself as having GD (I may or may not have had ice-cream and raspberry sauce for tea last night, for my poor poor wisdom tooth infection 😢)
Week 37 this week, 2 weeks left. I'm so so so ready! My little girl can't wait to meet her little sister ❤️
Not sure if I should set the bed up yet? Gone for a tutti Bambino side thing, no idea what I need to do to keep safe...any tips? Got the carseat belted in the car already and the pram built, clothes washed and sorted, what else?

OP posts:
HelloViroids · 18/05/2020 12:07

That’s amazing - was it proper ice cream and sauce (not low sugar)?! I have been having GD friendly everything and can’t get sugars down Sad
