Pregnancy after IVF

I thought I'd start this thread for anyone who's pregnant following IVF as there are some things that are only really relevant to IVF pregnancies, like certain medications. It would be good to have some people in a similar situation to talk to.

Hi ladies. Hope you're all doing well. I'm 9+4 today and when I went to the loo this evening there was a teeny tiny spotting on toilet paper. I'm feeling so anxious. I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow so I'll let her know. I've been to the loo since and had nothing but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this at this stage? X

Ginandtonic31 · 23/09/2019 07:09

@Hopingforbabyd try not to worry. I had spotting at 6 weeks, 8 weeks and 10 weeks. If there's no pain and it's brown it's usually ok. If it has stopped that's a good sign!

I'm 15+3 and had a banging headache

Ginandtonic31 · 23/09/2019 07:10

Oops pressed send too soon. Had a banging headache all day yesterday then went to bed and was sick. What's that all about? Still feel crap today. I also have midwife this morning.

CucinaBreakfast · 23/09/2019 07:59

I'll join you for a couple of weeks, currently 37+1 with my ivf baby, 3rd FET lucky. I have a 4yo too, conceived naturally so a very different experience! Also different in that the risks are higher with ivf babies in doing an induction and also going post dates, so it really is a different kind of pregnancy.

Congratulations everyone who has been lucky enough to conceive, it's such a slog. 💐

HavelockVetinari · 23/09/2019 14:47

Hi all, can I join? Mine isn't technically an IVF pregnancy - I was starting my 7th round, and had been down-regging for a week when I felt sick and dizzy - POAS and it was a BFP! Shock

I have one DS(2) already, conceived via ICSI, and we've had 3 rounds trying for a sibling - we cancelled the 4th obviously!

I'm currently 5+3 and being sick multiple times daily like last time, it's brilliant! Grin

Hopingforbabyd · 23/09/2019 21:52

Hope all went well for you today @Ginandtonic31 I spoke to the midwife and she wasn't concerned. Just said same as you long as no tummy ache. She said some of the pains I've been having may just be growing pains but also because of my endo it may be linked to that and ibs. Bloody stomach always giving me jip 😄 12 week scan all booked in for 10th October and I've also been passed back to my gynae which I'm so happy about so will be consultant led x

How we all doing? I’m struggling today with anxiety. I’m so worried something isn’t right and they’re going to tell me it’s gone wrong at 12 week scan. It’s next Wednesday and I’ll hopefully be 13+4. I’m feeling very anxious. We saw a heartbeat at 7+2 and again at 9+2 due to a bleed but I’m still so worried. I have practically no ‘symptoms’. Missed miscarriages are all over mumsnet and it’s making everything worse. Just need somewhere to rant!

HavelockVetinari · 25/09/2019 18:15

I know it's hard @Whatelsecouldibecalled but try to relax - the risk of mc after a 9 week scan is really small. How are you feeling physically?

HavelockVetinari · 25/09/2019 18:16

I've got my early scan next Weds, it'll be 6+5 so we'll hopefully see a heartbeat.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 25/09/2019 18:25

@havelockVentinari feel fine on myself. Yes tired but I work in a physically demanding job and I’m always tired. Don’t feel sick anymore. Boobs still big but not sore.

Hopingforbabyd · 25/09/2019 23:14

@Whatelsecouldibecalled I saw my midwife for first meeting on Monday and she did warn me that this week (I'm 10weeks today) until my scan I should start to feel better as HCG levels ease off a little ready for the second trimester. I must admit I too feel like I have a lot more energy and not a sick feeling anymore. Have you the pregnancy+ app? It details a lot in there too about the drop in symptoms towards first trimester though I completely understand your anxiety as I too have felt pangs of worry on and off that things may be wrong but I did get the reassurance on Monday only because I asked the midwife and she just smiled and said "perfectly normal". Very easy for it to be said but keep going gal, not long now xx

Hopingforbabyd · 25/09/2019 23:15

*symptoms towards the end of the first trimester

Ginandtonic31 · 26/09/2019 08:00

Try not to worry @Whatelsecouldibecalled. I'm at 16 weeks now and just feel like me. I forget I'm pregnant. It's strange. But at my midwife appointment on Monday she let me listen to the heartbeat and there it was, beating away. You do start to feel better. I'm making the most of feeling myself now by getting to the gym and going on holiday and things!

HavelockVetinari · 26/09/2019 09:36

I can't wait till my symptoms go away - last time I was sick every day till 24 weeks, and then after a 6 week hiatus was sick again from 30 weeks till 36 weeks when DS made his appearance. This morning I puked up my pregnancy omega 3 tablet, fish oil in reverse tastes AWFUL EnvySad

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 30/09/2019 19:39

I’m really suffering with headaches these last few days! 😫😫😫

Passionfruit20 · 01/10/2019 07:31

@Whatelsecouldibecalled I had the worst headaches all weekend. I ended up with a cold towel on my head most of the time (and over my eyes blocking the light) and thankfully they’ve gone again for now, but not being able to take painkillers is the worst! (I know they say you can take limited paracetamol, but I was trying to hold out for using that on work days if I have to)

Hopingforbabyd · 01/10/2019 19:49

@Whatelsecouldibecalled me too 😖 my headaches have turned into the worst head cold I feel dreadful but hopefully it passes soon x

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 02/10/2019 16:59

Just had my scan today and I’ll is looking good! Thanks goodness x

Hopingforbabyd · 07/10/2019 23:10

@Whatelsecouldibecalled aw so glad to hear all is well! Was this your 12 week? I have my 12 week scan on Thursday and can't wait!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 08/10/2019 01:41

@Hopingforbabyd yes ‘12’ week but I was 13+4 at the time!!

Passionfruit20 · 08/10/2019 07:27

Did they change your date at all @Whatelsecouldibecalled or were you still bang on? I figure with ivf we should be pretty accurate right? My scan is Monday, literally counting the minutes, cause I think it will start to feel real after this scan! Also counting the minutes until I don’t want to throw up any more 🤢

EarlGreyT · 08/10/2019 09:03

@Passionfruit20 they’re not meant to change your date on the basis of scans in an ivf pregnancy because they know exactly when “ovulation”/fertilisation took place so they should use that to calculate your due date rather than scans.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 08/10/2019 12:08

@Passionfruit20 I was measuring bang on but they also said they wouldn’t change the date with ivf x

Cantrip · 08/10/2019 15:08

Even though mine is an ivf pregnancy, they moved my dates forward 3 days at my 12 week scan.

Passionfruit20 · 09/10/2019 19:59

😂 @EarlGreyT @Cantrip @Whatelsecouldibecalled - that made me laugh. I guess it’s the nhs right? Love them, but not exactly consistent!!!!
