@MrsEG - Thank you for that! We need to start looking at cars, and probably moving as well....we live in a lovely two bedroom
Flat with a wonderful garden, nice location and good neighbours and we were going to stay here till number one was around 18 months old and then move, but with number two deciding to make a appearance at the same time we are going to move ASAP which is not ideal and probably contributing to the stress of having twins.
Sorry my husband has gone to work today after being together almost 4 weeks and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed about the idea of twins/new car/new home in the next few months!

PippaPug · 12/08/2019 08:51

@MrsEG - can your husband take a few weeks off for holiday after paternity leave? It’s really annoying if you have twins you still only get two weeks paternity, but if it was two separate births it would be four weeks paternity, two weeks each.

Have you got friends and family who will be supportive? I think my parents will be, and my sister in law and hopefully my brother, as well as my best friend, I’m unsure about my husbands side right now, I think because I’m a nanny they think I will be fine and won’t need any help - but I haven’t ever looked after newborn twins by myself before!

purplefig · 12/08/2019 08:53

@ELW85 you know yourself best and I definitely knew a positive early scan would make the rest of the first trimester more enjoyable. Our local one was only £40 and I know if you live near a big city you can get deals on groupon sometimes. It was a gorgeous experience - I think I was something like 8+4 so they just looked like a little blob, but you could see the heartbeat. How many weeks are you today?

@MrsEG early December??? Good grief - you will need to be organised woman!! Re: going back to work after mat leave, is the three days because of childcare costs? We've loosely decided I'll go back 2 days a week, as my mum can have them one day and then nursery the other. Plus I'm self-employed, so if I had an urgent deadline on I could always do the odd weekend / evening if needed. Weird to think how much life as we know it is going to change.

I'm 14 weeks today! Eating is totally back to normal which feels amazing after my three month potato obsession. I don't look obviously pregnant but my lower belly permanently sticks out a bit and I can't suck it in. Felt my fundus this weekend which was pretty cool! This week I'm going to book our reserved NCT places and then make a proper to do / buy list for the next 6 months. Got to capitalise on the second trimester energy. What's everyone else up to?

MrsEG · 12/08/2019 09:08

@PippaPug Oh you poor thing; yes our house is 3 beds, the middle room is tiny so we’ll need to move eventually but we’ll be fine for a good couple of years yet. DH is self employed so hoping to do 2 weeks maternity and 2 weeks holiday, but my worry is if they are earlier than 37 weeks I’ll likely spend a good week of that in the hospital, but what can you do. At least I know he can take that much leave which is great and we’ll just have to see what happens!

@purplefig I know! I think I worked it out around 5 December - she said she obviously wouldn’t want them to come that early but I have a 60% chance of pre-term labour so have to be ready for anything. It’s made me question all our Christmas plans and everything! I’m staying positive though and hopeful it’ll all be textbook and we’ll get to 37 weeks no bother, but I have to be realistic and prepared also I guess!
Yes all totally down to childcare - between me and my sister we could probably take each other’s one day a week and then I’ll need nursery - my mum has offered, but she’s 67 and I just don’t like to count my chickens with her - she has my niece now one day a week but to go from one baby to a toddler and two babies could just be way too much for her and I don’t want to put that pressure on her! Also I think with twins I’d like them to go in nursery and get used to playing with other kiddos all day long and not just each other!
Great news on the food - I have odd days where I can stomach a salad and some where I can’t even say the word out loud, I can tell I’m over the hump though as the weird taste is almost gone. My bump is just silly though haha. I actually noticed on Instagram this morning a friends sister is pregnant with twins so stalked her page a bit and on her ‘announcement’ post at 14 weeks she has such a prominent bump, and now at 27 weeks she looks ready to pop. So just taking it for what it is! I worry sometimes ‘is it all the burritos?!’ so it makes me feel better to know that it’s not!

We have our 12 week scan on weds and I’ve now dreamt about it the past 2 nights! I am so looking forward to it but just so badly want everyone to look happy and healthy in there. I’m also struggling with peeing again so hoping I won’t end up with another UTI :(

purplefig · 12/08/2019 09:29

@MrsEG Wednesday is so not long and while the 12 week scan is a landmark, you have to remind yourself you've seen the heartbeats so the chances of everything being positive is pretty high. But I totally get it's a nerve wracking time ❤️. I'd say it's only been from 12+ weeks that I've felt back to normal, and it wasn't instant it was gradual. So you might well be getting there with your semi-tolerance to salad! Makes sense with childcare and totally see why you don't want to rely on your mum - that would be a big jump in kiddos to look after. Have you thought about Christmas? Ours normally involves an insane amount of travel, but luckily we'd already decided to stay home this year. So relieved.

MrsEG · 12/08/2019 09:35

@purplefig The current plan is to go to Mums, which actually is closer to the hospital than our own house. My main concern now is if 28 weeks is me feeling ‘full term’ I’ll essentially feel 3 weeks overdue at Christmas so will I just want to stay in my PJs, snooze and eat pizza?? It’s so hard to say. I googled it hoping I’d be wrong and sooo many twin mums said at 28 weeks they were just done in, at 30 they could barely get dressed without someone helping them. So I honestly don’t know. Luckily as it’s my family I reckon I could bail nearer the time without too much fall-out.
I know - I honestly think it’s the fact it’s such a huge landmark that is causing the anxiety! I literally had a scan 2 weeks ago that everyone was over the moon with. I get serious scanxiety so I think I’ll just be delighted when it’s done!
It’s fab re: childcare that you can work for yourself / work from home, that would be ideal! Perhaps I need my lightbulb moment while I’m on mat leave!

BostonFern · 12/08/2019 10:15

Morning ladies!
Just a quick one-busy sorting the living room out for decorating.
Aldi are doing pre-orders for the baby and toddler event, they've got some lovely looking bits! The app seems to have more than the website too.

cupcakesandglitter · 12/08/2019 10:42

Morning all, just had my scan, seen a little heartbeat 😊❤️

@BostonFern I had a little look yesterday at some bits and they had some really cute stuff XX

Awww @MrsEG hopefully you'll be okay around Christmas time, if I remember right my mum was lounging around, she just needed a bit of help getting up from the sofa because of the pressure on her hips x

BostonFern · 12/08/2019 11:22

@cupcakesandglitter so pleased your scan went well, seeing the heartbeat is so lovely.

MrsEG · 12/08/2019 11:40

@BostonFern Oh fab, I’ve heard great things about Aldi especially their Moses baskets!

@cupcakesandglitter Ah how lovely, I bet you feel much better now after seeing that! Ha good to know, yes that’s what I’ve read, the hip and back pain can be crazy then - I think it’s why that’s the point I can no longer drive too. Better get some good cushions ready to make myself comfy ha!

cupcakesandglitter · 12/08/2019 11:50

Thankyou lovelies @BostonFern @MrsEG I feel MUCH better. I actually burst out crying in Pizza Hut the other day because I just didn't feel pregnant or positive at all - I feel like a weight has properly been lifted and I can start to enjoy being pregnant. Told my SIL and she mentioned that sickness kicked in around 10 weeks for her so I'm feeling a bit more relieved!

@MrsEG definitely stock up on cushions 😂 also there's these back support things to help for when you're driving that could help too x

ELW85 · 12/08/2019 12:20

Happy Monday all! Why is today flying over already?
Not feeling as sick as I have been today but definitely not hungry for anything, so just had to force a jacket potato down.

@purplefig - I’m 7+4 today and have decided to go for a private scan on 26/08, so I’ll be 9+4. I really want to see the heartbeat again and the midwife said I’ll still not get my 12 week letter for a while, so I need something to break the time up!!
I also can’t believe you’re 14 weeks! The time has flown 💕

@MrsEG - I totally understand the anxiety dreams, but from what I know, once you’ve seen a heartbeat the risk drops dramatically so I’m sure Wednesday will just be an amazing day of seeing the little ones again and being in awe of them 😊
Did your consultant say why the risk dropped off after 9 weeks, if you don’t mind me asking?

@cupcakesandglitter - congratulations on the scan! I bet you’re feeling loads better!
How far along did they put you?

MrsR16 · 12/08/2019 13:55

Hey ladies, I've been away this past weekend at my parents' house, so I'll try and catch up! Apologies for the long post now haha 😂

@ELW85 I went for a scan at what I thought was 10 weeks, but turns out it was 11 but that's was purely because I kept having bleeds. I was still panicking between that scan and the dating scan as all I had in my head was "once I get to 12 weeks, the odds of miscarriage drop". It was wonderful to see it first time round though, I cried!

@PippaPug omg twins!! You and @MrsEG will be able to keep each other in good company! That is very exciting, although I can see why you'd be a bit apprehensive...

@Jessikka oh congratulations!! It's so wonderful to see you here!

@TrashKitten10 I can't wait to go have a look around my maternity unit. I'm hoping for a water birth but there's only 2 pools at my local, so I have a slim chance of getting in there!

@BostonFern isn't feeling baby just amazing? Thankfully I've not had a proper kick in the ribs yet, but I think baby's stretched in that direction on more than one occasion! Super exciting about the nursery for you!

@MrsEG you proper just made me giggle! Had a go at your dream DH for being a deadbeat! 😂😂😂 and don't worry about scanxiety (totally stealing that phrase) - I felt physically sick before all of mine and couldn't stop worrying! Everything was fine though 😊

@stormtrooperjulian oh goodness, that sounds very exciting! I can't wait till I can get everything sorted in my house for baby to come along.

@purplefig 14 weeks? Where did they disappear to?!?

@cupcakesandglitter aw, isn't it adorable when you see the heartbeat? Just makes it feel a bit more real that something is happening and you have a little person in there!

stormtrooperjulian · 12/08/2019 15:17

@MrsEG is there someone who could come and help out once your DH goes back to work? Your mum or sister or someone?

@cupcakesandglitter so glad your scan went well, must have been such a relief seeing that heartbeat. Hearing the heartbeat is my favourite part of midwife appointments.

Had my 34 week midwife appointment today. She thinks I'm probably anaemic so had blood taken to test for that, it was borderline on my last blood test, that would explain why I've been feeling so tired and dizzy for the past few days.

MrsEG · 12/08/2019 16:00

@cupcakesandglitter Oh bless you! Hopefully you can start to enjoy it all now :)
Ooh good shout on the car cushions I’ll have a look for those!

@ELW85 I honestly can’t remember if they even gave a reason, it was more that it was mentioned and then when all looked great the atmosphere in the room became very ‘You can relax now’ etc, I was discharged from the RMC unit there and then, the nurses asked ‘Do send us pictures of the twins when they are here’ etc - so it was extremely positive!

@MrsR16 hope you had a great time with your parents! Ha I’m always waking DH up at all hours to tell him about my weird dreams; 9 times out of 10 he’s forgotten by morning. I was so mad at him in my dream though haha!

@stormtrooperjulian Oh you poor thing, so will they try and increase your iron intake in that case?
I think my Mum would probably move in given half a chance once DH goes back to work but we have a fairly trying relationship and I think she’d drive me crazy (we’ve already had arguments over our nursery plans and because I want to breastfeed - apparently overnight she became a twin expert) - so if I can avoid too much Mum time I will haha. My sister is very close by though; I think I’ll perhaps need both just on standby at first for emergencies; I’ve read that sometimes the most difficult part when on your own is just trying to pick them both up, you need an extra pair of hands to pass them to you!

Bettythecat · 12/08/2019 16:25

Hi all, just to update you that the only number to call on a Sunday about worrying pregnancy stuff is A&E. I rang them and told them what happened and they told me to come in. I went in then finally saw someone who referred me to the EPU today. We went to the EPU this morning and they scanned me- all was fine and heard the heartbeat! She said sometimes part of your mucus plug can come away when pregnant so seems like that's what happened. Doesn't seem like it's necessarily something to worry about though but she said to keep an eye on it!

MrsR16 · 12/08/2019 17:38

@MrsEG it was wonderful to spend time with them! My sister and her family were there too (she has a 5 year old and a 4 year old and they were crazy!) so it was just a lovely weekend 😊

@Bettythecat great to hear you're doing ok and that you were able to get checked out. Hopefully you won't have many more problems!

purplefig · 12/08/2019 17:49

@MrsEG your laidback family Christmas sounds perfect! We've got something similar planned. That said, it's also a big birthday for DH around NYE and he wants to go and see his family for it (mostly out of a sense of obligation as we won't be there for any of Christmas). The issue is its 7 hours in the car. And then a sofa bed. Not totally sure I'll be feeling that at 33/34 weeks pregnant 🤣 we'll see. He's said he really doesn't mind if I don't go, but I'd feel weird about not being there on his actual birthday. Anyway. How're you feeling now? What's for dinner?! I had the most decadent lunch (huge plate of fresh figs, cheese, crackers, pickle, apple, pickled onions etc.) so not feeling that hungry ATM.

@cupcakesandglitter congrats on the positive scan - it's a great feeling seeing that heartbeat isn't it?! And try not to worry about lack of sickness - I'm in the second trimester and haven't thrown up once. And nor has @MrsEG And she's got double the hormones!

@ELW85 Sounds like a great time to go in for another scan. They might even be looking vaguely baby shaped by then! Yes since the booking in appointment / scan things do feel like they're speeding up.

@MrsR16 did you have a nice time at your parents house? Yes these last couple of weeks have flown by.

@stormtrooperjulian oh I'm sorry to hear that, sounds very rough. At least they can hopefully get you sorted once they know for sure.

@Bettythecat glad everything's ok.

MrsEG · 12/08/2019 18:41

@Bettythecat Great news, I’m sorry you were so worried though. Glad you got sorted - the EPU where I am is actually 24/7 walk-in, which is handy - but I know it differs across cities. I hope they’ve put your mind at rest!

@MrsR16 Sounds lovely! How lovely your sisters little ones are so close in age too :)

@purplefig If it was me, I’d be skipping it, 7 hours in a car that heavily pregnant sounds close to torture - it’s DH birthday on Xmas day and I’ve already told him to expect to do absolutely nothing at all this year, and he has to be tee total just in case! Very cruel of me, I know. We both keep saying ‘it’s just for this year’! Your lunch sounds fabulous!! I had made a quinoa salad but once again ended up just picking the green stuff out; tried to make up for it today with loads of fruit. Is it so much to ask to just enjoy broccoli again?!

MrsEG · 12/08/2019 18:43

So also - had a very weird request today from the in-laws. They called to ask if we could FaceTime them from our scan on Wednesday. And were then really annoyed when we said that literally wasn’t possible (we wouldn’t do it even if it was, but still). Can you even believe it.

Jessikka · 12/08/2019 18:46

@MrsEG I feel you... my MIL is expecting to be in the room with me whilst I give birth. She doesn't know I'm pregnant as only 4 weeks. But shes said it for years. She was there for the other grandkids so she will be there for mine apparently.
Ha. Ok. Let's see how that one goes lol.

MrsR16 · 12/08/2019 19:04

@purplefig yeah, we had a great time! Nieces exhausted me, but that's what they do best! 😊

@MrsEG it is awesome! This is the same sister who's 6 weeks behind me, so our two will be super close in age! Oh goodness, your in-laws didn't?!? That's unreal! That's such a special time for you and your OH!

@Jessikka haha! Good luck with that one my lovely! Everyone aside from my DH can wait to turn up to the hospital until I am ready to see people! I thought my in-laws were going to be more intrusive than they have been, but they've been super awesome so far.

Bettythecat · 12/08/2019 19:25

Thank you @MrsR16 @purplefig @MrsEG - it's just so hard to know what's normal when it's your first time isn't it! Also if you google anything about the mucus plug it's all about labour so that was a bit of a concern!

@purplefig that's such a tricky one- a sofa bed feels like a definite no go unless you go fully stocked up with your pregnancy pillows etc...could they come to you for DHs birthday instead do you think?

@MrsEG what a bizarre request!! Would they even be able to see things clearly?! Maybe just offer to send them a photo to put on the fridge after and leave it at that!! @Jessikka Christ I definitely wouldn't want my MIL at the birth!! She's lovely but I definitely wouldn't want her seeing me naked and mooing like a cow/shouting at her son! 🤦‍♀️

purplefig · 12/08/2019 19:32

@MrsEG that is a strange one from your in laws. Is it their first grandchild? I mean even if it is...very odd behaviour. Can't believe they had the gall to the then be annoyed about it. Yeah I sort of think I'll end up skipping it, but I really would rather be with DH. God that sounds a bit pathetic doesn't it 🤣. It just feels fairly late on to be apart, but I know plenty of couples who would laugh at that with shift work / long distances etc. It's just been playing on my mind lately. So decided I don't want dinner...have knocked up a banana loaf in its place 😳😋 your quinoa sounds pretty healthy without the greens tbh. But fingers crossed your aversion to veg goes soon - mines totally gone and it is lovely to be able to eat all my old favourite meals (she says, tucking into banana cake for dinner).

@Jessikka no way?! Are you two close? I couldn't think of anything worse, no offence to my MIL. Everything Ive read about birth stresses the importance of feeling relaxed / supported / calm...and I would just not be that.

@MrsR16 ahhh glad to hear it. Enjoy recouping!

Jessikka · 12/08/2019 19:33

Haha @Bettythecat @MrsR16 I'm going to see her try and run it past my mum... see how long that idea is entertained lol
My mum doesnt want to be in there as she respects it's for OH and I so she wont let that idea float too long lol.

How is everyone?

I had my first small panic this morn. I took another test and it hadn't gotten darker. When I added in my cramps I had a slight worry but OH snapped me out.

Here's my current fave pic in the world - hopefully replaced with a scan pic soon!
