@cupcakesandglitter - Thank you - still processing the idea and finding it very hard to get my head round it, I must admit!

@MrsEG - I’m glad you replied 😂 to be honest I think I’m still in shock, husband has taken it better then I have I think!
Do you have twins in the family?
Erm I think they said - because I wasn’t really listening at this point, that they are non identical as separate placentas? But can’t be sure as I was slightly panicking and my brain was going everywhere.
Twins didn’t even occur to me 🙈

MrsEG · 11/08/2019 08:45

@PippaPug That’s great, same as me in that case! Your midwife will go through it all when you book in but I was put on a higher dose of folic acid straight away, you should be referred to your hospitals twin clinic too for an appointment close to your 12 week scan. They’ll go through everything with you, but my main takeaways have been how quickly your bump grows (mine has really been prominent now from 9/10 weeks - I’m 11+4 today and it’s impossible to hide now) and exercise can be low impact/gentle only.
Nope no twins in our family, DCDA twins aren’t genetic and are the result of a woman releasing two eggs in one cycle and both being fertilised. Mine actually track a day apart in size so were possibly fertilised a day apart which is nuts!
The twin consultant was lovely when I saw her and calmed a lot of my fears; you’ll be well looked after too with plenty of additional growth scans after 20 weeks.

ELW85 · 11/08/2019 08:49

Morning all!

@Jessikka - congratulations!

@PippaPug - that’s amazing news! I’m sure you were helping @MrsEG with twin buggy options the other day, which is handy!! 😊

@MrsEG - totally agree with the crop tops; they’ve been a god send the past couple of weeks!

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend so far?
We’ve got a day of clearing the garden, spare room and understairs out. Fun 😂

Bettythecat · 11/08/2019 08:54

@PippaPug omg amazing!!! I think I would love twins so what a gorgeous surprise for you- although lots of extra work of course!

@purplefig no it was called Bump and Baby Club- kind of like an alternative to NCT. They meet in the pub and it seemed a lot more chilled and relaxed. The NCT in my area mostly have at least one working day session which we can't do and/or are weekends we can't do or rearrange (I.e my best friends wedding!). We've ended up singing up for a crazy expensive hypnobirthing course instead as I'm thinking I would like a home birth so we would want to use hypnobirthing anyway!

@cupcakesandglitter we did think that and checked all the NCT in and around our area and no luck for the reasons above 😫- also I don't think we want to go too far away from where we live as the idea is that I will make mum friends to be able to walk to meet for coffee etc during the day.

@MrsEG I know you're right I just had my heart set on that one. I planned to book it as soon as we had the 12 week scan but I didn't feel as confident as I thought I would after that so I put it off as it was v expensive- and then suddenly it was sold out!

@Jessikka congratulations lovely!

Woke up at 4:30 for my nightly wee and then couldn't get back to sleep- my mind was racing with baby stuff!! A friend has lent me some baby books and was reading them yesterday and really got me thinking. I would massively rate one of them "The Positive Birth Book" which is all about giving women the knowledge and information to make informed decisions about their birth. I didn't realise that basically everything is optional- so for example you don't have to have the baby whisked away to be cleaned and weighed immediately if you don't want to. It's really fascinating.

BostonFern · 11/08/2019 09:38

@stormtrooperjulian one of my cats is starting to embrace the bump a lot more, she's not been kicked by baby yet though, so let's see what happens then! 😂

@Bettythecat sorry to hear you've been upset-could you contact them and ask if they can put you on a waiting list incase of cancellations? Also, when I looked at my local NCT Facebook page it turns out they do a couple of events every week for mums (and expectant mums) that are free (no need to be a member)-maybe something like that exists in your area?

Congratulations @Jessikka!

Congratulations @PippaPug what exciting news!

@ELW85 You've got a busy day ahead! We're putting together a couple of bits of furniture for the nursery, then I need to box up all the bits and bobs in the living room so DP can move the furniture and start painting tomorrow.

Bettythecat · 11/08/2019 10:29

@BostonFern I've put myself on the waiting list and emailed them too 😊. That's a great suggestion about the Facebook group- I'll check that out! Thank you 😘

LikeTheFruit · 11/08/2019 11:31

@purplefig went for non wired plunge t shirt bras. Hoping they'll do me for at least a couple on months!

@stormtrooperjulian oh I've never heard of that method. Will do a bit of googling later!

@PippaPug more twins! That's so exciting. I've always wanted twins for some weird reason. Think I watched the parent trap as a child and was convinced I had a secret one somewhere!

@MrsEG I tried the eating before I got out of bed thing but didn't seem to help. It's genuinely just first thing then I'm fine. Shouldn't last for too many more weeks.

Fivebyfive2 · 11/08/2019 12:09

@PippaPug, twins! How exciting 😀 Congratulations sweet, you @MrsEG will have to share tips! Xx

@bettythecat, sorry to hear the group is fully booked but you never know. And I'm sure you'll find other groups you like the look of as well. Xx

@ELW85, good look with your organisation day! We went to the tip and now just chilling out. We probably won't do much else in terms of house prep for another few weeks now and that will be things like setting the nursery up etc. Very exciting though! Hope you get on OK with the jobs today and treat yourselves to a nice tea tonight! Xxx

@Jessikka, congratulations on your bfp!! 🎉😀

stormtrooperjulian · 11/08/2019 13:45

@Jessikka congratulations! It's great to see you here! How are you feeling, has it sunk in yet?

@PippaPug oh wow twins! Double congratulations! That's so exciting.

@Bettythecat I bought the Positive Birth Company online course, I found it really interesting. They do deals on it fairly regularly so if it's something you'd be interested in it's worth keeping an eye out for

Jessikka · 11/08/2019 15:02

@stormtrooperjulian no - it really hasn't. Every now and again the OH and I will lock eyes and just smile and shake our heads in disbelief lol! All very surreal!
The cramps I'm getting are definitely real though. Though they aren't terrible. I am happy to see them lol. Stretch little uterus...STRETCH.

daisiesandpeonies · 11/08/2019 17:48

@Jessikka congratulations and welcome! How far do you think you are?
@PippaPug congrats - more twins on the thread!

purplefig · 11/08/2019 18:15

Well after trying on all of m&s' bras I've deduced I'm a 32E. Which sounds shocking to me, but have to remind myself it's only actually 1 - 2 sizes bigger than normal 32C/D. Bought another of the lace crop tops for comfort and a wired full coverage t-shirt bra for support. After that we went on a long dog walk which was glorious (not least thanks to the m&s picnic). Hope everyone's having a good Sunday!

@Jessikka congrats! That's fab news!! This thread is fab for pregnancy chat and support.

@PippaPug more twins!!! Has it sunk in yet?

@Bettythecat I bet the hypnobirthing course will be amazing. Like @stormtrooperjulian I'm planning to do the online Positive Birth Company one as I've read such good things about hypnobirthing. The Evidence Based Birth podcast ep on that (and the one on water Birth) were so interesting.

@ELW85 wow that's a lot for one day! How did you get on?!

@MrsEG we're going to start writing a list, and general baby to do list, tonight. Freaking out we've done basically nothing and it's only 26 weekends to go 😂

Bettythecat · 11/08/2019 18:35

Hi ladies I've got a bit of a question for you. The last couple of days I've noticed a tiny bit of jelly like mucus in my pants. Literally just a tiny bit- yellow and like jelly/snot. I didn't think anything of it but today I've been to the loo and there was quite a bit more when I wiped. I'm pretty sure it's part of my mucus plug as I've googled it and it looks exactly like that. Has anyone had this happen to them? Obviously I'm nowhere near being ready for labour. I'm trying not to freak out.

ELW85 · 11/08/2019 19:02

@BostonFern @Fivebyfive2 @purplefig - well ladies, I’m happy to say that we got the garden finished and the spare room cleared. Part of under the stairs, but it’s been vile weather here so we did what we could without getting mud everywhere!!
And we treated ourselves to a chippy tea. No regrets whatsoever 😂

@purplefig - your M&S picnic sounds amazing! I haven’t measured myself for another bra yet but I have been wearing crop tops for a while, which seem way more comfortable so I think a re-sizing is on the cards.

@BostonFern - how exciting about the nursery! How are you decorating it?

Has anyone else been for a scan before their 12 week one?
DH and I are talking about another one more for my peace of mind than anything.
I think this all stems from not feeling as nauseous today!

PippaPug · 11/08/2019 19:19

@MrsEG - How many weeks are you, I feel your a few weeks ahead of me?
I’m hoping I will have a good consultant - I’m just worried now that everything I originally wanted has gone out of the window now and it’s just been turned upside down. How did you feel when you found out it was twins?

@ELW85 @Bettythecat @BostonFern @Fivebyfive2 @stormtrooperjulian @daisiesandpeonies @purplefig

Thank you everyone - it is slowly sinking in, the thought about having twins never even entered my head so still processing it, and I will admit some tears as it wasn’t what I planned for or expected but I think it shock...we have told our families over the weekend so they are equally as shocked as us as no twins in the family, I wanted a bit of support and now i pretty much gag around most foods which is a bit awkward if they don’t know why!
Now just worried about the next steps 🙄

PippaPug · 11/08/2019 19:22

@ELW85 - we went for a private scan yesterday due to the fact we had been away and our booking in scan is later then it should of been, it was lovely however I needed to have a internal scan (which it did say on the forms but I assumed I wouldn’t need one) and that’s where they spotted baby number two 😱 - good luck if you decide to have one!

Jessikka · 11/08/2019 19:24

@daisiesandpeonies should be 4 weeks tomorrow I believe.
My periods have varied over the months and so I'm working off an average lol.

TrashKitten10 · 11/08/2019 19:28

@Bettythecat Don't worry, weird and wonderful CM in increasing quantities is normal in pregnancy. You only need to seek advice if it seems infected- green or smelly. Otherwise it's just another glamorous symptom ☺️

@PippaPug Wow, another set of twins on the thread! Huge congratulations!

@Jessikka Congratulations! Amazing news :)

@ELW85 We had a scan at 8 weeks which was a great reassurance and broke up those looonngg first few months.

We were up the hospital today visiting my mum and took the opportunity to have a look around the midwife led birthing unit. So lovely with its dim lighting and pools. Really hoping I stay low risk and can have the baby there. Think I will invest in the positive birth company course like @stormtrooperjulian and @purplefig

BostonFern · 11/08/2019 19:56

@purplefig sounds like a lovely day!

@Bettythecat not sure about it being a plug, but one of the lovely symptoms of pregnancy is increased discharge 😬

@ELW85 we've got light blue walls and oak effect laminate flooring, furniture is white, and we think we are going for a Winnie the Pooh theme - still need to get the cot, but we have a built in wardrobe, and have put together a chest of drawers, storage cube unit and a changing table (that'll be going in our room once baby is here though to make night changes easier for DP and his dodgy joints!).
We had a couple of scans before 12 weeks, I was anxious and we had NIPT testing so they scan prior to that. It was worth it for us.

@TrashKitten10 Sounds like a lovely place to give birth! I've bought the hypnobirthing course and book, yet to start them though.

Putting the nursery furniture together almost went smoothly, until DP broke one of the supporting bars when he was moving the chest of drawers. One trip to IKEA later and we had two(!) replacements- they were great, sorted in no time and a spare incase he did it again 😂
Also managed to box up the bits in the living room ready for DP to move everything tomorrow ahead of him starting to paint it. Can't wait to get it done and reclaim my dining room-it's just been a holding room for all the different rooms in the house whilst they've been decorated!

Baby gave me my first proper kick in the ribs today-took my breath away!

purplefig · 11/08/2019 19:57

@ELW85 woo hoo - go you!!! Chippy tea sounds like the perfect reward too. I had an early scan. I was worried about on and off symptoms and it just didn't feel real, so we got a scan at 8 weeks. Great move as it totally chilled me out then, and also broke up the looooong first trimester.

@TrashKitten10 oooo that sounds fabulous! We have a local one that sounds really similar, really, really hoping I can labour there.

@PippaPug I bet you're in a huge amount of shock. Perhaps doing some reading around twin pregnancy / birth / parenting might be a good next step to help make it feel more real? I know a couple of twins and they have such a special relationship. It's a gorgeous, unique bond.

ELW85 · 11/08/2019 20:27

@TrashKitten10 @BostonFern @PippaPug @purplefig - Thanks guys; I’m definitely having one after that input :) very similar to you, @purplefig - my nausea had just kind of dropped off a cliff today so I think a scan will help put my mind at rest. The thought of waiting another 4 weeks isn’t possible 😂

@BostonFern - your nursery sounds lovely!

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend; I’m pretty sleepy after this chippy tea so I doubt it’ll be long before I’m reading (falling asleep) in bed 😂

MrsEG · 11/08/2019 21:07

I did that boob thing earlier and mine came out at a 34E! Good grief. Rubbed a bit of Bio Oil on them tonight just in case haha!
We went to a friends daughters first birthday party today, was lovely. Had to wear an ‘interesting’ get up to cover my belly but if anyone cottoned on, no one said a word. A few raised eyebrows when I didn’t take a champagne toast for when they did the birthday cake (house was in walking distance from home so didn’t have much of an excuse!) but oh well. I see my friends all the time, will see them next weekend too as were all going to Friends Fest so at least I still get to tell them in person!

Have also been shattered this evening (already had a long nap and now back in bed) and dreamt I was at my 12-week scan and DH ditched me and never came back! I went downstairs to have a go at dream-him for being such a deadbeat.

@ELW85 I had three early scans under my consultant - if you can wait for 9 weeks, do - so much risk is eliminated after that point and also they really do look like tiny babas on the screen. I struggled to know what I was looking at at the earlier ones but my 9+5 scan was amazing!

@purplefig Yeah I know what you mean, I’ve had a bit of a panic since my consultant told me that from 28 weeks for me ‘anything could happen’ - that is early December I am not ready ha!

@Bettythecat Discharge is part and parcel, but one thing worth asking the midwife is maybe for a urine check - I noticed with my UTI my discharge became yellow and it was a sign of the infection. Totally harmless but I did need some antibiotics to clear it up (was also given lots of advice on how to pee correctly in pregnancy!)

@PippaPug I’ll be 12 weeks on Wednesday, to be honest we found out it was twins extremely early so I’ve never known different. I still have days where I occasionally panic about childcare and costs etc but for the most part now we’re just really excited about it. There’s tonnes of advice online, look at the TAMBA website as a starting point but hopefully your midwife will give you lots of advice this week.

stormtrooperjulian · 11/08/2019 22:01

@ELW85 I had a scan at 7 weeks, I needed the reassurance that there was actually a little baby growing in there and it stopped me worrying so much once I'd seen the heartbeat.

@Bettythecat even if it is your plug it can come away and reform multiple times throughout your pregnancy, you can call your midwife at any time if you're worrying about it though

DH built the cot today so I feel like we're one step closer to being ready. Next thing on the list is to get all the baby clothes and nappies etc washed and put away, everything is stacked around the room waiting to be sorted at the moment.

PippaPug · 12/08/2019 07:56

@TrashKitten10 - Thank you very much!

@BostonFern - your nursery sounds beautiful, I bet it all feels a lot more real now!

@MrsEG - Out of curiosity - what car do you have if you don’t mind me asking?! We have a car we won’t be able to fit a double pram/ two car seats plus everything we will need for them in our current car 😬

MrsEG · 12/08/2019 08:06

@PippaPug I just changed my car a few months ago to the Peugeot 2008 which has a massive boot and two Isofix ready seats in the back - so that was a lucky twist of fate!! As I was changing my car and trying I decided to get something a bit bigger so if we had another ‘in the future’ the car would already be ready! Still not sure now I’ll get both babies, the pram and the dog in but will trial and error that when they’re here!
There is so much to factor in with twins, we also had to reshuffle rooms as the room pegged for a nursery won’t fit two cots either; it also means realistically I’ll only be able to go back to work 3 days a week - but for every ‘problem’ we found we’ve found a solution to most! My biggest concern really is once DH paternity leave ends will I ever manage to leave the house alone with them, but I’m sure I’ll learn!

@stormtrooperjulian Sounds like you’ve had a very productive weekend! Bet it feels lovely to have it all set up :)
