@Annielou516 the only thing you can do is try and relax. Bean won't want you being anxious xx

64632K · 10/05/2019 09:50

BobbySD345 I think I was about 13/14 when we went. Its worth it to see what's available and to trial and test. Also MAM were giving away a free bottle per family, completely oblivious to the fact that some people came 4/5 times over and collected a bottle each time

CaptainSparklez · 10/05/2019 10:01

@64632K that's mainly what we want to do too. DH wants to be able to try out different travel systems to make sure they'll tall enough and comfortable to push as we're both over 6'.

Your naming tradition sounds lovely btw. Plus I bet it makes it a bit easier only having one letter to choose from rather than the whole alphabet.

@Kathryn19 ditto on not liking to be the centre of attention. Afternoon tea sounds nice and like the least stressful option. I just want to make sure I don't leave it too late and end up waddling and uncomfortable and not enjoying it at all.

64632K · 10/05/2019 11:08

CaptainSparklez it really is worth testing them out. All the ideas I had in my head went out the window when I was there messing around with them. For the first time both DH and I agreed on something we were buying, we unanimously went it the IckleBubba Stomp, it was so lightweight and easy to adjust between all the setting and the car seat was super light too, he has arthritis and I have had shoulder surgery so needed something we were both comfortable with.
Oh another reason for the reusables was after finding out about the sheer amount of chemicals in disposable nappies it was a no brainer, those chemicals touching babies bits eeeewwwwwwww

Daffodil2491 · 10/05/2019 20:52

Hi @Annielou516 sorry hun I missed your post this morning, totally relate to how you feel, I was exactly the same in the beginning all I can say is hang on in there and take care of yourself, it doesn’t last and you will soon be growing and more aware of your little miracle. Time dragged for me at the beginning but now feels like it’s flying, am told it drags again at the end too lol. I was terrified too before the scan even worried that it was all in my head and worried about things going wrong, still do a bit, someone else said I don’t think you ever turn the worry off now but each milestone is comforting and reassuring 12 weeks will come round quicker than you think. Take care hun x

Kathryn19 · 10/05/2019 21:02

Hello @samfaaa! That's so exciting.. I was far too impatient to keep it a surprise! Although regretting it now, as despite my pleading my mother in law is trying to buy an awful lot of pink...

Daffodil2491 · 10/05/2019 21:03

@CaptainSparklez so glad you got a quip in too! Good for you! Also thanks for reminding me about the baby show at the NEC really want to go! Mentioned it to other half tonight and he’s fairly happy with the suggestion too which is nice as he really isn’t a shopping person lol. But he’s going to be dragged along anyways 😛. I’m not planning a baby shower as such although my cousin and his sister have both mentioned doing one ‘groan’ lol... don’t mind but also don’t like being the centre of attention like @Kathryn19.

@64632K that’s a beautiful tradition! How lovely, it would certainly help me with the shortlist lol there can be too much choice!
Yes I have a form from my midwife that you send to the council with receipt for reusable nappies and matb1 for when you’ve had that and we get £100 which is great really! I like the different sorts of totsbots nappies also don’t think partner would get on with poppers as he has big hands.

Hmmm to book NEC tickets or not to book... lol

64632K · 10/05/2019 21:10

Thanks all, it is a beautiful tradition and one which my parents went for too. In our culture a baby is welcomed by the entire community who all join in with the prayers, even if they have no idea who we are. My mum swears blind the letter A will come up, if I hear another suggestion of Arya I will punch someone.

We got our tickets free after signing up to Emmas diary, they give you a free goody bag too

Babylentil · 11/05/2019 03:40

@Kathryn19 @CaptainSparklez I'm having a baby shower, my close friend was so happy when I told her I was pregnant and practically begged to throw me one haha, I'm looking forward to it but I also hate being the centre of attention so me and OH are also nervous about it! But I'm appreciative that she wants to do this for me. We hand made the invites and they're soooo adorable if I do say so myself 😅

After saying i was struggling with boys names I literally found a name that I loooove and OH agrees so I'm relieved, I thought we would never agree on anything, both very stubborn!

Kathryn19 · 11/05/2019 14:51

@Babylentil that is so sweet! I know my friend would love to do it and do a great job but I don't think I'm feeling it... will be moving in July so a super busy month and also our friends and family are really spread out and no one is local to us! Will see though, maybe they will convince me! And it is sweet that our friends want to do this for us :)

I think we have also agreed on a name. Husband had one he desperately wanted that I wasn't sure about but he is happy for it to be a middle name and then to use one of the ones we both like as a first name :)

Anyone had any exciting developments? I've got my first appointment in absolutely ages this week, at 25+6. Had the scan obviously but didn't see any midwives or anyone like that.

Daffodil2491 · 12/05/2019 13:52

@Kathryn19 no more new exciting developments although still buzzing from hearing the heartbeat, wish I’d thought to record it though that would have been amazing!
Booked our tickets for the NEC next Saturday who else is going? Happy shopping if you are lol.
It’s beautiful here today, enjoying the sunshine in the garden, enjoy the rest of Sunday everyone x

64632K · 12/05/2019 15:56

Kathryn19, I know that feeling, it seems like ages between all the scans. Last scan was week 12 and having to waiy until week 21 to see the little peanut again. Wish they would do it every 4 weeks instead. I guess one upside to having GD is that I hear the heartbeat at my fortnightly obs appts.
Babylentil that's really sweet, my SIL wanted to throw me a baby shower but its not something that is in my religion nor am I interested in it so have asked her not to. In indian culture, one is usually thrown in month 7 which is hosted by the MIL who prepares everything to the mum to bes liking, prayers are said and then there are celebrations, its an occasion of great pomp.

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2019 16:22

@Daffodil2491 we are considering NEC because we aren't far from there and it's a nice day out but I'll only be just under 14 weeks and I think it's a tad early ! Can't decide x

Daffodil2491 · 12/05/2019 19:51

@BobbySD345 up to you hun, I understand you hesitating, I will be 18 weeks so also a bit early to buy much we are going to ‘look’ (or so I’m telling myself now) and see what there is, obviously if there is a really amazing deal it will be hard not to buy but will deal with that as it comes. It sounds like there’s lots of great stuff to see and talks etc even if you’re not ready to buy, I want to go because I like to see things before buying and there aren’t many baby shops close for me to do that. I dithered for a bit too but a friend had some good advice and said do stuff like that before you got too pregnant to a) be able to and b) too uncomfortable to enjoy it. It’s a shame they aren’t on more often! X

Kathryn19 · 12/05/2019 20:45

@64632K yeah it does feel like ages! I'm not anxious between appointments anymore like I was before scans, just because I can feel the little one moving around so often. But does feel a bit strange sometimes how long it is since I've spoken to anyone about it!

@BobbySD345 @Daffodil2491 I'm not going only because we live quite far from there and husband works weekends. I've heard some really good things from people going though - discounts on big purchases, but also the opportunity to see lots of things in real life and test out buggies etc. So I'd say if you feel you'd really like to go and happy to buy a ticket, then go for it. But equally, sure you can do without if you decide on balance you don't want to buy anything yet so not worth it.

On that note - of interest - where are people based? I'm living in very South London (almost Surrey), and work in the City :)

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2019 21:17

@Kathryn19 I'm in Warwickshire 😊

The main reason I was tempted to go is because I don't think there is another one until October by which time I'll be very heavy and walking round the NEC is the last thing I'll want to do ! Plus it's exciting...but everything is going so well so far and after 2 mc's I'm anxious not to jinx anything (which I know sounds so stupid!) @Daffodil2491

Kathryn19 · 12/05/2019 21:21

@BobbySD345 oh lovely! When I was at Uni in Birmingham and then Warwick we used to travel around a lot of Warwickshire for squash - so many lovely places there :)

Completely understand - they are so infrequent! Can't imagine how that must feel though

Daffodil2491 · 12/05/2019 21:26

@Kathryn19 I’m in mid Wales, think they do the same baby show in two different venues in/near London that might be better for you.

@BobbySD345 not silly at all! Also anxious not to jinx and cursing every single magpie I see lol, it really isn’t silly! I’m due mid October so the next one will be far too close to due date! Don’t fancy being there and waters breaking Lol!

Kathryn19 · 12/05/2019 21:36

@Daffodil2491 Unfortunately we weren't able to make it/it was a bit early on in pregnancy and the next one is after baby is born! But I'm an internet research addict anyway :)

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2019 21:43

Omg @Daffodil2491 magpies ! I was in tears the other day on way home because I saw one on its own 😂 Husband thinks I'm mad... !! I blame the hormones 😉

64632K · 12/05/2019 21:54

I am in Winsdor so London is accessible for me. We went when I was about 14 weeks to test buggies out, well worth it as it helped us pick the right one

CaptainSparklez · 14/05/2019 09:41

@Daffodil2491 I'm not sure if we're going on the Saturday or Sunday now due to DH work schedule. Hopefully figure that out and book tickets tonight.

@64632K thank for the tip about Emma's Diary, just checked and you can get 35% off tickets Smile

@Babylentil I bet your invites are lovely. My mum is really crafty so wants to make all the invites and décor bits. Can I ask how many weeks you'll be when you have the shower ?? I'm still trying to work out when would be the best week to have mine.

@Kathryn19 nothing new to report here. But I've got my appointment with the midwives tomorrow so hopefully it's all good news and we get to hear the heartbeat again.

I'm based in Essex. Not exactly close to travel to the NEC but the next show is in October, which will be much too close to due date.

Kathryn19 · 14/05/2019 10:38

My GP appointment is Thursday.. can't come soon enough as really struggling with fatigue, faintness, heart palpatations, joint pain.. etc etc. Know they will do bloods again at midwife 28 week appointment but hoping that the dr books them in sooner to check things out!

Daffodil2491 · 14/05/2019 21:37

@BobbySD345 I’d love to blame the hormones lol but have always been weird about magpies! I blame them for everything else though lol!

@CaptainSparklez hope you sorted tickets, mine came in the post today. We can ‘compare notes’ after we’ve been lol and hope it doesn’t break the bank! Hope your appointment goes well!

@Kathryn19 take care of yourself till your appointment hun, hope they are useful! Push for the blood test if it will give you peace of mind. Hope your other half is spoiling you x

It’s a shame they don’t do more baby shows at the NEC must be hard if your dates don’t fit the timescale, but the organisation of it must be huge!

Kathryn19 · 14/05/2019 21:47

Thanks @Daffodil4291! I was looking at my booking in bloods and they were low end of normal so just wouldn't be surprised if they were to blame. Husband is being great, and so is everyone at work which is so helpfu! Feel a bit pathetic though....
