@Daffodil2491 right, so annoying! Oh the touching... my mother in law touches mine all the time. And then one girl at work (same one who made the comment today) will just randomly reach out and place her hand on my stomach to feel it :|

Daffodil2491 · 08/05/2019 20:16

@Kathryn19 lol, personal space clearly disappears as soon as you are pregnant! I don’t mind if people ask but random people just touching is irritating beyond belief so again totally sympathise!

crazycatlady7 · 08/05/2019 20:58

@Kathryn19 I hate the touching, my friend did it to me at dinner a few weeks ago and my SIL.... now every time someone comments on my bump I say don't touch me! Work must think I'm mad... 😂

Kathryn19 · 08/05/2019 21:10

@Daffodil4291 yeah the not asking is the biggest issue for sure!

Haha @crazycatlady7 I totally empathise! I've got a lot less patient recently... have taken to asking people about their tummies if they bring up mine! Think my husband is beginning to get embarrassed by the lack of filter :,D

CaptainSparklez · 09/05/2019 09:19

@Kathryn19 it is annoying but I can cope with 'cropped' jeans until I can no longer reach down to shave my legs Grin

Thankfully there's been no random touching as the bump isn't really showing yet but I did have one senior manager at work comment "Is someone looking tubbier today?" as he walked past me with one of the directors last week.

Daffodil2491 · 09/05/2019 18:06

@CaptainSparklez how rude of him! I sympathise with the clothes issue although I have the opposite issue I’m short and everything is too long or drags on the floor!

@Kathryn19 lol! 😊 love the no filter comment, think we’ve earnt the right though! Especially later on.

Daffodil2491 · 09/05/2019 18:12

Hey @so glad your appointment went well, had mine too this week, heartbeat so reassuring. It made me laugh though, cue more laughter as it made the machine sound weird and then I couldn’t hear it lol she did find it again though lol.
Can’t wait to start buying big things! Going to wait until 20week scan I think although am going baby shopping with a friend soon to ‘browse’ lol.
Have you got a car seat with an isofix? Am looking at getting the car seat that goes with the Pram I want but the Pram can have adaptors for other seats so much to choose from! Lol x

Daffodil2491 · 09/05/2019 18:13

That should say hey @Babylentil damn typos sorry!

sal1987 · 09/05/2019 18:28

@Daffodil2491 I'm so jealous you got to hear the heartbeat. My apt today she didn't even mention trying to get it, was so disappointed though as I think it would have cheered me up after a crappy few days. My hormones are all over the place at the moment and just can't shift my bad mood. Going to get a McDonald's in a hope I don't end up vomiting it back up like I did do last night!!

Daffodil2491 · 09/05/2019 19:10

Awww @sal1987 so sorry you feel rubbish! Sending a virtual hug, hope the hormones let you keep your dinner down! There are so many ups and downs I swear the other day I burst into tears for literally no reason and was sobbing for nothing at all, not even worrying or anything. We will get there lol. Try do some nice things for you, things that make you happy, relax In The bath or go out for ‘coffee’ I say that hesitantly because if you suggested that to me I would heave lol, smell of coffee and I aren’t friends at the moment. Take care of yourself x

Babylentil · 09/05/2019 19:16

@Daffodil2491 for a good few minutes my partner was recording my heartbeat until I was like uhh I don't think that's the baby's haha, so glad your appointment went well! The seat I ordered doesn't have an isofix, it uses a 3 point seat belt I believe. I haven't started looking at prams yet because I don't think I could stop myself buying one lol! Xx

Our first too, due 5th October, we don't want to know the gender, we will be happy with healthy baby. I didn't show until week 16 when belly just expanded like crazy.

Daffodil2491 · 09/05/2019 19:32

Lol that’s funny @Babylentil, it’s hard to tell what’s what though! Glad you heard it too, wish I’d thought to record it! It is so hard not to buy things right! 😅

Hi @64632K and congratulations I’m not finding out the gender either x

Babylentil · 09/05/2019 20:49

@Daffodil2491 did you get told your baby's bpm? I had to figure mine out from the recording I got and it's about 160 give or take, not that I take it as an exact science but apparently girls heart rates are faster, I love looking at all the gender theories just for fun haha. You must have a lot of willpower not to know the gender! I wish I was more patient haha

OP posts:
Daffodil2491 · 09/05/2019 21:05

@Babylentil no wasn’t told bpm but it sounded fast! Also love the gender theories, my MIL has an old one that she says was right every time for all of hers you thread a needle with cotton and hold it above the bump if it swings from side to side, boy if it turns in a circle girl and if it goes nuts twins lol. When she did it on me it swung side to side, but other old wives tales have indicated girl ie, I’ve seen 3 magpies together after finding out and other silly ones, 50/50 chance to be right is pretty good odds lol but it’s fun to guess. I’m desperate to know too but really want my other half to be able to tell me what we’ve got and we don’t mind either way 😊 healthy will do fingers crossed lol.

64632K · 09/05/2019 22:09

Thanks @Daffodil2491.

Our old wives tale is if the belly is longer then it is a boy, wider its a girl.

Lentil we bought a complete travel system after going to the baby and toddler show. Worked out great for us as we have isofix car seat, pushchair, carry cot, rain cover, changing bag and foot muff.

Babylentil · 09/05/2019 23:35

@Daffodil2491 I haven't heard that one actually! I'm happy with either gender, though we have a lot more names thought of for a girl haha, really struggling for boys names! And I think that's lovely having your partner tell you the gender when born, I'd definitely love that if I were able to wait!

@64632K so far we've only got the car seat, and some little bits here and there like stocking up on nappies etc. Next on my list is a pram, can't wait to start looking!

OP posts:
64632K · 10/05/2019 05:14

We have heard the heartbeat many times, each time my DH would get emotional, they said 150bpm was a good heartbeat.

Lentil we only bought the travel system as we got such a good dealat the show, we had a look at buying a pushchair/pram separately to the car seat but it wasn't cost effective so purchased as a bundle, saved us just under £250. We have not bought anything else yet, we plan to buy a bit later on. We are very keen on the reusable nappies which will initially be a big cost but save money in the long run.

We haven't thought about any names yet. We have to wait until we know what letter the babies name can start with, then we can figure it out

Annielou516 · 10/05/2019 07:10

Is anyone else at the really early pregnancy stages like me? I'm just coming up to 6 weeks and am terrified of things going wrong. 12 weeks seems so long away. I can't even contemplate how long 40 weeks will feel!

Daffodil2491 · 10/05/2019 07:39

@Babylentil the names thing can be an old wives tale too although I’ve met people who say both ie; if you have a girls name girl/boys name boy and vice versa had girls and had boy etc so that’s a conflicting one lol. Am sure I will wobble around 20week scan but we made the decision early on and he’s keen for a surprise too so will stick with it I think.

@64632K we’re looking at reusable nappies too! Nice to know someone else who is, the cost saving is huge and a deciding factor for us was our rubbish bin is only emptied by the council every three weeks and isn’t really big enough for nappies and our rubbish, so don’t want bin bags of smelly nappies lying around also don’t want to contribute so many nappies to land fill! Which ones do you like? Be been looking at tots bots ones.
Why do you need to wait for a letter for the name?

CaptainSparklez · 10/05/2019 08:51

@Daffodil2491 it was incredibly rude but I did manage to quip back "That's no way to talk about (insert directors name here)". The director laughed and the manager walked away red faced Grin

We're going to try to wait till 20 weeks before shopping too. I've been making a baby checklist and doing lots of research to find the best prices. It's really tempting to buy bits especially when I see good stuff on sale, so I may cave in.

@64632K we're going to the show at the NEC next weekend. Fingers crossed there's some good deals there. Also haven't thought about names yet because I'm convinced that I'll end up loving one for a boy and then find out we're having a girl or vice versa.

Is anyone planning on having a baby shower, and if so when ?? Popped over to see DM and DSis last night and they were both very excited to start planning one.

64632K · 10/05/2019 09:15

CaptainSparklez enjoy, it does get super crowded but good deals are to be found too. We only went because we wanted to test travel systems. I was very interested in Cosatto as people recommended it highly, but after having a test run, we didnt like it. DH was in awe of the amount of stuff for babies, cue me almost weeing myself with laughter.

@Daffodil2491 in my religion, we take the newborn to the Temple, we inform the priest that purpose of the visit and a prayer is said to the whole congregation to welcome the baby. The first letter of the prayer that the Holy book is opened at is the letter we use for babies name.
Nappies - some councils offer incentives of money off or free nappies when selecting reusables, ours doesn't but we did like the idea that we wouldn't be sending to a landfill. Theres sooooo many but totbots was one se looked at, beaming baby is another, Bumgenius and Motherease. We will try trials as when we went to BandT show, DH found some of the poppers difficult because of his arthritis.

Kathryn19 · 10/05/2019 09:27

@Annielou516 virtual hugs! I remember that feeling so well. If it helps I have gotten less and less anxious as time goes on. Much easier to believe baby is doing well when she is beating me up so often!

@CaptainSparklez that comment is outrgaeous!! I'd have so snapped.
On baby shower: I'm under a lot of pressure from close friends and in laws to have one. I'm not anti the idea but I'm not very good at being centre of attention so I'm going to say thanks but no thanks. If I was going to have one I think I'd go down the afternoon tea route - considered doing a DIY one. But I'm just too awkward for the whole thing haha

@Daffodil4291 we have ordered a few reusables from the nappy lady to try. Ordered 2 bumgenius elemental joy, 2 little lamb pockets and 2 little lamb bamboo for nights with a good wrap. Partly followed the personalised online advice service the nappy lady offers and partly just went on reviews, budget, features etc. Tots bots also look good so if these don't work great they are on my list to try.

Pram wise we got a second hand icandy peach 3 in great condition that we are buying a new mattress for, and we got a maxicosi carseat from the outlet for lots of money off (people don't seem to want red!)

BobbySD345 · 10/05/2019 09:34

I was quite interested in the NEC show which I think is next weekend but given I'll only be 13 + 5 I feel like it's too early. Just a shame as I don't believe there is another one until October and by then we should hopefully have everything we need.

samfaaa · 10/05/2019 09:36

hellooo I am 30 weeks pregnant, due 21 July we dont know what we are having and am looking forward to the surprise! :)
