I’m finding it hard picking names. My husband is useless with boys names as everyone I suggest he says I know a.. I’m not too bothered if I know someone with the same same name. I think I need to spend more time on the name boards. Well by the end of the day we’ll be able to discard 50% of names!

PrayingandHoping · 01/06/2019 08:28

We have a girls name chosen... haven't got a boys yet. We will find out sex at scan in 3 weeks so that will help I think!

HeartvsHead · 01/06/2019 09:21

There is an app you can download that's a bit like Tinder for baby names. I cant remember what it is called though... You and your partner swipe left and right on the names and it tells you if you match. Some of the names are a bit wacky but is good fun!

Farmmum7 · 01/06/2019 16:16

We've got our girls name sorted but my DH isn't overly keen on the boy's name I've got my heart set on. I've got the kids on side though so together we might be able to wear him down!! I want to keep them to ourselves once we're decided though I think it'll be nice to have some mystery if we do find out the sex for family/friends and incase we change our minds once we see them!

Is anyone using family names for middle names? I always loved a name but it's my sister-in-laws name so I want to use it as a middle name then if we have a boy use a name from my side of the family but I can see the father-in-law getting the hump if I use my dad's name!

I think I felt the small one move for the first time yesterday due to the fact the sensation wasn't followed by a fart 😂

Mintypea5 · 01/06/2019 19:36

@ we're using family names for middle names.

Farmmum7 · 01/06/2019 20:40

Did you use family names with your other DC or is this the first?

Mintypea5 · 02/06/2019 03:53

@Farmmum7 DS1 just has s name that fits with his first name but DS2 we used both our daddy's names as they passed away from cancer before he was born.

With this one if it's a boy middle name will be after my beloved grandpa and a girl will have a family name from my nana side and then a 2nd one that is the same one all the girls on DH side have (and by chance the same as my mums!)

Zarara · 02/06/2019 07:52

So we had an early sexing scan yesterday and were having a girl, which was a lovely surprise. The only thing is that the tech took some measurements and measured me a week behind... baby looked fine but now I’m really paranoid that the baby isn’t growing properly. Strangely at my 12 week scan they put me 6 days earlier than what I had thought going off my own dates. The baby was really uncooperative and I had to jump around etc to get a measurement. Now I’m wondering whether they got the date wrong at the 12wk scan. I don’t know if I should do anything? Does anyone know what happens at the 20wk scan if you’re measuring differently.

Mintypea5 · 02/06/2019 14:30

@Zarara they will measure at the 20 week scan but they use the abdominal circumference, femur length and head circumference to work out the measurements. As long as they're within 2 weeks either side of the
EDD they are usually happy.

If your 12 week dates you early it's just likely that the measurements you had done at the private scan are slightly more accurate. Even at the 12 week scan it can just depend on how baby is lying etc

HeartvsHead · 02/06/2019 15:50

@zaraza if they are concerned about it they will have you back for another scan 2 weeks later to check growth. If they don't say anything then you are still well within normal range so no need to worry xx

Farmmum7 · 02/06/2019 16:39

I had suspected interuterine growth restriction with my second, I had weekly growth/blood flow/liquid meassurement scans and was put on monitors for an hour twice a week ect for around 9 weeks from 29 weeks because the midwife said my bump was measuring small. If they have an inkling anything is wrong with the growth they will do all the extra tests/scans ect so unless they get you booked in for more I wouldn't worry too much wait for the 20 week scan and see how that goes.

PyjamasForever · 02/06/2019 16:47

We used a family name as a middle name with DS. If we have another boy they'll also have a family middle name, or if it's a girl they'll have a family first and middle name.

Quite jealous of people who already know the sex, I think we'll find out at the anomaly scan if they can see anything. Huge waits for scans at my hospital so I'm hoping we won't be waiting too much beyond 20 weeks... super impatient to check that everything is okay with baby. I've only felt a couple of possible movements so far, but was feeling loads with DS by this point. Placenta is anterior this time, so it's probably that. There's something very reassuring about being able to feel lots of movements.

Mintypea5 · 02/06/2019 16:55

I was fairly happy with our decision not to find out but the at lunch today I was chatting away with my sister in laws and we got so excited now I want to know. DH really doesn't so I feel like I should keep it a surprise just because I got to find out last time even tho DH didn't want to and it seems fair we do it his way

BobbySD345 · 02/06/2019 22:13

Incase anyone is doing a reveal, Aldi have cannons and balloons for £2.49 ! We will find out and just tell everyone the normal way but they're a bargain so thought I'd mention it 😁

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 02/06/2019 22:24

@BobbySD345 I saw those! Think I might get the balloon for the kids to pop- still haven’t told them I’m pregnant. Haven’t told anyone yet actually!

Suppose if the kids aren’t too keen on the idea of the baby they’ll at least have a balloon 😂😂

Zarara · 03/06/2019 05:16

Thanks for the comments and reassurance, feel much better about it.

Bannanas how come you haven’t told anyone yet, is it out of choice or has it just worked out that way?

BobbySD345 · 03/06/2019 10:21

@Bananasarethesourceofevil so funny !

Just been for my 16 weeks with the midwife and heard the heartbeat. I have heard it in a private scan when they bring it up on the screen but there's something quite special about them sticking that doppler on me and finding it literally in seconds 😍

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 03/06/2019 12:24

@Zarara a bit of both. I’ve had bleeding constantly through the pregnancy, told three times I’m miscarrying, it’s only stopped in the last week so I didn’t want to tempt fate by saying anything!

Main reason is my ex (who is a complete dick) and when he finds out, which he will the second we tell my kids, he’s going to be a pain in the ass and will try and cause all sorts of problems... so we’ve just been enjoying looking forward to our baby and having the calm before the inevitable storm and I didn’t need the stress of him on top of all the epu visits etc.

Will probably tell my kids soon and then we can tell DPs kids and wider family.

Zarara · 03/06/2019 13:36

Bananas sorry you’ve had such a tough time. Hopefully that’s the end of the bleeding and you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. I can see why you would want to keep it to yourself for as long as possible.

Mintypea5 · 03/06/2019 17:44

@BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil I had bleeding like that last pregnancy and a difficult ex! He demanded to know about any "major life changes" as they might emotionally damage our DS ... which is bollocks he just likes to control me! I've not told him this time but I know he knows because his mum said congrats

PyjamasForever · 03/06/2019 18:40

There's something so exciting about listening to the midwife finding your baby's heartbeat with a Doppler. I have my 16 week appointment at 18+1 (!!!) next week and absolutely can't wait. Then I have my anomaly scan the week after. Can't believe I'm almost half way already.

Mintypea5 · 03/06/2019 18:43

@PyjamasForever it's crazy isn't it! I feel
Like the pregnancy is flying by ... last time every day was an eternity!

PyjamasForever · 03/06/2019 19:01

@Mintypea5 I was saying this to a friend today. I think with a toddler running around you have less time to think about it. By this point last time I had made lists of things to buy, started buying some stuff, was making packing lists for hospital and was spending hours researching hypnobirthing and antenatal classes... this time I've been stunned by the weeks flying by and I'm a bit worried I'll be 40 weeks before I've organised anything.

blizzard88 · 03/06/2019 20:05

Time is flying isn't it? Although I had my 16 week appointment today but apparently won't see the midwife again until 28 weeks - which seems like a very long time away!

dottydally · 04/06/2019 08:42

Got my 16 week appointment this morning. Trying to figure out whether she'll listen to the baby's heartbeat. I know it's pointless second guessing but I don't want to be disappointed if she doesn't Sadit seems to be a mixed bag for the other ladies on this thread!
