What eye colour will my baby have?

I know there’s no exact way to know until their at least 9 months, but I’m curious and have been trying to research but haven’t found a conclusive answer as both mine & DH’s eye colours are recessive (I think)

Mine are green and DH’s are blue/grey.

Any guesses?

Probably blue.

MountainPeakGeek · 30/03/2019 03:19

My mum has green (hazel in certain light) eyes, my dad has bluish grey. Myself and my siblings all have brown eyes.

CobaltRose96 · 30/03/2019 03:24

My dad has hazel eyes and red hair, my mum has blue eyes and brown hair. I'm a blue eyed redhead and my brother is a blue eyed blond.

My partner has brown eyes and hair. Our baby is only two weeks old so her eyes are the typical newborn slate grey right now. Curious to see what colour they'll turn out!

Shortandsweet96 · 30/03/2019 03:33

My mum is blue eyed with brown hair, my dad has brown eyes. My brother has blue eyes, my sister has brown eyes and mine are a light more hazel colour.

There is a science behind eye colour combinations!

Mintypea5 · 30/03/2019 03:48

I have green and my partner has blue
.... babies eyes have turned very green like kind just recently at 9 months. From what I was reading it's a 50/50 chance when both gave recessive.

Crunched · 30/03/2019 04:05

I have green and DH blue, and all of mine have blue.
My DSis has same and both of her DDs have blue as well, so I’m guessing the green gene (from our DFather) has ended in our family.

Rickytickytembo · 30/03/2019 04:32

We are the same as you OP (mum green eyes, dad blue). All of our kids had blue eyes at first but one out of three now has green eyes, the other two have blue.

Heratnumber7 · 30/03/2019 04:44

Blue is the dominant gene, butt that doesn't mean the child's eyes will be blue. Both of you could be carrying recessive genes for any colour. She could have a different colour from either of you.

MintyT · 30/03/2019 04:46

Me - dark hair skin dark brown eyes
Him - fair fair blue eyes
Son. Dark hair dark skin brown eyes
Son blond hair dark skin green eyes
Daughter. Blond hair fair with freckles but tans well - beautiful blue eyes

Throughthenetcurtains · 30/03/2019 06:33

Your child's eyes won't be brown. They could be blue or green or grey

SoyDora · 30/03/2019 06:36

I have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. DH is fair with blue eyes. All three DC are blonde with blue eyes.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 30/03/2019 06:52

I have hazel eyes, ex has one brown eye, one blue eye. Our three have bright blue eyes

PiggyPlumPie · 30/03/2019 06:53

Both DH and I have brown hair and brown eyes. All three of our DC have brown hair and blue eyes.

Originofstars · 30/03/2019 06:57

My dad is black haired with blue eyes. My mum is redhead with green eyes. I'm mouse brown and pale with blue eyes and my sister is golden brown with darker skin and very bright green eyes. She definitely won the DNA lottery!

MountainPeakGeek · 30/03/2019 06:57

Can you please explain why they won't be brown?

Popskipiekin · 30/03/2019 07:04

Both DH and I have green ish eyes. I think his are more blue than green. Of our 4 parents, all have blue aside from my mum who has brown eyes. My brother has brown eyes.

Both our DC are fair and DC1 has clear blue eyes, DC2 deep brown eyes. Pretty much the same colour from birth, too.

ems137 · 30/03/2019 07:06

I've got 4 children to 2 different blue eyed men. My eyes are green.

3/4 children have blue eyes
1 has my green eyes

The youngest are both under 3 but their eyes show no signs of changing from blue whereas the green eyed child had flecks of colour in from a very young age.

Fatted · 30/03/2019 07:08

Who bloody knows?! I was convinced both my kids would turn out with dark hair and dark eyes like me because they're the dominant gene aren't they?! DH has mousey fair hair and blue eyes.

DS1 has red hair and blue eyes. Looks the spit of his dad.
DS2 has fair hair like his dad and brown eyes. Looks more like me. I did secretly hope for another ginge before he was born Grin,

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 30/03/2019 07:10

To have brown eyes you have to have a parent with brown eyes.

ree348 · 30/03/2019 07:13

I found this recently :

What eye colour will my baby have?
wonderpants · 30/03/2019 07:16

I have green/ grey eyes and DH has brown eyes.
DC1 has dark brown eyes and DC2 has dazzling blue eyes.
So not sure how it can be predicted!

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 30/03/2019 07:22

Brown is the dominant gene and blue is the recessive so if you both have the recessive blue gene then you can have a blue eyed child...

...if im remembering overly simplified GCSE biology correctly!!! Grin

AnguaResurgam · 30/03/2019 07:23

Eye colour occasionally throws you a weird one (possibly a gene not expressing itself fully somewhere in the line)

But most people follow the classic pattern

AFAIK green is allied with brown and 'counts' as dominant, so I think your DC could have any colour eyes.

UnPocoLoco2 · 30/03/2019 07:24

Don't worry about it too much. It's only eye 👁 colour
