What eye colour will my baby have?

I know there’s no exact way to know until their at least 9 months, but I’m curious and have been trying to research but haven’t found a conclusive answer as both mine & DH’s eye colours are recessive (I think)

Mine are green and DH’s are blue/grey.

Any guesses?

DH and I both have brown eyes (DH very dark brown, mine lighter but still definitely brown). Our DS who is 2, has blue/grey eyes, were not sure he’s ours (I’m joking!).
We guess it’s from either his maternal grandfather or paternal grandmother who both have blue eyes.

meow1989 · 30/03/2019 07:26

I'm dark haired with brown eyes, my parents and sister all have brown eyes too, dad and sister dark haired,, mum Auburn.

DH is mousey blonde and blue eyed,, don't know about parents.

Ds is 9 months and blonde (though not white like Dh as a child) with blue eyes.

GenericUsername101 · 30/03/2019 07:26

Similar here - I have grey/green eyes and my husband green eyes, ds1 has the same colour eyes as me and ds2 has bright blue eyes.

Litttlepinkegg · 30/03/2019 07:29

The chart didn’t work in our case.. Dh Brown eyes black hair. I’m blue eyed mousy hair. Dd has blue eyes blonde straight hair and ds green eyes brown curly hair

missbattenburg · 30/03/2019 07:30

FWIW my mum has blue eyes and my dad's are grey/green. I have blue and my brother has brown.

Huffle · 30/03/2019 07:33

DH and I both have blue eyes, I’m blonde, he’s dark, both our children have mousy blonde hair and brown eyes. They look like each other but nothing like either of us!! We must have some kind of recessive brown eyes gene somewhere

Throughthenetcurtains · 30/03/2019 07:34

@MountainPeakGeek yes there are always the very rare cases that are the exception to the rule, but as the chart that @ree348 has posted shows, essentially if you have a green eyed and a blue eyed parent, your chances of a brown eyed child are close to 0 due to the fact that blue/green are recessive genes.

Maybe the OP @FineFanks can report back once her baby is born to demonstrate if this is in fact the case!

BlueMerchant · 30/03/2019 07:34

Me- grey
OH- dark brown
Ds- green
Dd-green

accendo · 30/03/2019 07:35

2 people with blue, grey or green eyes will not have a brown eyed child unless a genetic mutation occurs.

Throughthenetcurtains · 30/03/2019 07:38

What @accendo said.

I found this site the other day - I think it’s a bit silly but they do hair colour too:

pansydansy · 30/03/2019 07:55

I have brown, dh has blue and both our DD's have green eyes.

My other 3 children have a different dad and his eyes were green, 2 have my brown eyes and one has blue.

azulmariposa · 30/03/2019 08:05

Their eyes could be brown!
I have green eyes her dad hazel. Dd has chocolatey brown eyes!
Was so sad when they got darker and darker, I hoped they would stay light but they didn't.

My dad has light brown/hazel, my mum blue.
My ex in-laws have grey and brown.

Oh well at least she only inherited one thing from his side of the family!!!

user1498572889 · 30/03/2019 08:08

I have green/grey eyes my DH has brown. My son has blue my daughters have brown. My 2 grandsons have blue and my grand daughter has one brown and one green/ grey. I don’t think there is anyway of predicting it.

Bumpingalong84 · 30/03/2019 08:12

I have dark hair and brown eyes and olive skin, DH has blonde hair and blue eyes. DD has hazel eyes, very fair skinned and blonde hair but not white blonde. Expecting DC #2 wondering what colouring they will be!

nowtygaffer · 30/03/2019 08:15

I have green eyes, DH has brown eyes. All 3 children have blue eyes. Both grandads have blue eyes so must be from them!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/03/2019 08:17

To have brown eyes you have to have a parent with brown eyes

Not true

HoppingPavlova · 30/03/2019 08:23

To have brown eyes you have to have a parent with brown eyes.

Nope. Neither myself nor DH have brown eyes. Weirdly no one in our biological families has brown eyes, only people who have married in such as brother in law, aunts husband etc. One of us has green eyes and one has blue eyes. All biological relations in both sides have blue eyes.

We have one child with brown eyes. They are definitely ours, no hospital mix up. I did not have an affair. I love my child dearly but must admit it is really weird having a brown eyed person in the familyGrin.

HoppingPavlova · 30/03/2019 08:24

*on both sides

lhw92 · 30/03/2019 08:24

Don't worry about it too much. It's only eye 👁 colour

Agreed^
Maybe it’s because I have boring brown eyes but it’s not something I’d be too fussed aboutSmile
Also, sometimes genes can throw a curveball

HalyardHitch · 30/03/2019 08:28

Both DH and I have dark eyes. DH is more hazel, I'm dark dark brown. We have one ds with very dark eyes, one with blue eyes. Who knows

BlueEyedBengal · 30/03/2019 08:28

I have brown eyes my husband has blue eyes, we have 6 children ages between 28 yrs down to 6 yrs. of those 6 children 2 have my brown eyes but the other 4 have my husbands blue eyes so maybe blue eyes are more dominant.

Bamchic · 30/03/2019 08:38

Who knows
My siblings and I are all so different
Maternal granny - Irish dark hair fair skin burns in sun
Maternal Papa - Spanish, dark skin, mid brown hair, blue eyes
Paternal gandfather unknown
Paternal Grandmother- blonde blue eyes
My mum, auburn hair and hazel eyes, fair complexion but will tan
My dad burns in the sun medium brown hair hazel eyes

Me- mousey dishwater blonde hair, olive skin, hazel eyes
Dsis 1 - very fair, burns easily, black hair blue eyes
Dsis 2 dark brown hair, dark brown eyes olive skin
Dsis3 very fair, light blonde hair, green eyes

Who knows?!
Genetics are fascinating though aren’t they?

Lala503 · 30/03/2019 08:41

We're the same as you OP:
Me- green eyes
DH- blue/grey eyes

DS has beautiful blue eyes at 12 mo. Could still change I guess!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/03/2019 08:45

DH and I both have grey eyes and ds has brown eyes.
