Is anyone else plus size? I'm really worried about my size now. I'm a size 18 and a few stone overweight, I was dieting before I got pregnant. Obviously I've stopped my reduced calorie intake and I'm trying to just eat a regular amount. I'm just worried how my weight is going to affect my pregnancy and how the midwife is going to treat me Sad

I'm feeling so sorry for myself today! Grouchy, emotional, my tummy hurts, I'm so bloated and uncomfortable!! I'm a right Debbie downer!

I've got my booking in appointment on Thursday, finally feel like things are happening!
@Bananas Smock Homer is my maternity idol Grin

AcatcalledGary · 01/04/2019 19:55

@PrayingandHoping mint DH literally just found this: motherandnature.co.uk

Seem to have a sale on atm too!

Mintypea5 · 01/04/2019 19:58

@Aph413 I am. If lost 4.5 stone before DS2 but put on 2.5 with him and struggled to re lose it. The midwife may suggest you go to a healthy eating during pregnancy class and depending on BMI etc you may not quality for midwife lead and have to go to delivery suite for consultant lead

Sessy19 · 01/04/2019 20:03

@Aph413 My best friend was quite overweight when she got pregnant. She’s been a yo-yo dieter, and had fallen off the Slimming World wagon whilst trying to get pregnant. She was advised that she can still lose weight on Slimming World, and she is actually able to have a 1400 cal diet for a few days a week, and she’s still training. She does worry about her weight, but her midwife is more keen that she loses the weight for the health benefits. She’s had some really negative comments from her family, which I think is very unfair, but she’s 26wks and her babe is a whopper.

PrayingandHoping · 01/04/2019 20:11

@AcatcalledGary oooo good find!

Aph413 · 01/04/2019 20:33

@Mintypea5 my bmi is over 30 at the moment so I definitely won't be midwife led. I'd lost 2 stone before getting pregnant and my weight had settled a bit although I'm still 4 stone overweight. "Luckily" it's all in proportion as I'm very tall. It just makes me very anxious.
@Sessy19 hopefully the midwife I get is helpful and sympathetic. I'm not sure yet if they're going to recommend actively losing weight or just dieting in such a way I don't gain any. Unfortunately with the nausea all I want to eat is stodge and fizzy drinks. Hard not to feel anxious.

Another order for the homer smock here!

Mintypea5 · 01/04/2019 21:05

@Aph413 mine was 31 with a pregnancy and was still midwife lead. I'm now always consultant lead due to StepB but your midwife should explain the options to you. Tbh I don't mind consultant lead on delivery rather than. Birthing centres because that's where I feel comfortable but I know some
People feel quite strongly about it. Xx

dottydally · 01/04/2019 21:08

@Aph413 not sure if it's helpful but I've been drinking orange squash mixed with sparkling water. It satisfied my desire for bubbles/eases the nausea without having the sugar of fizzy drinks!

FirstTimeMama91 · 01/04/2019 21:44

Anyone know are we ok to drink apple cider vinegar when pregnant???

ChesMum2019 · 01/04/2019 21:54

@FirstTimeMama91 I know the brand Bragg still has the mother in so is unfiltered (unpasteurised) so cant be used when pregnant. I think you can use pasteurised but then the benefits are not as good

Preggosaurus9 · 02/04/2019 01:42

Checking in.

Have done almost 1 week on anti nausea medication now. Can definitely recommend. To those suffering with nausea and being off work - it's ok to call the gp and ask for a telephone consultation. My gp receptionist tried to fob me off but I was insistent (curled around the toilet at the time!) and the gp herself was absolutely lovely and told me I'd done the right thing to get in touch. I still feel sick and have to snack constantly but nowhere near as bad as before. Took 3 days off work in the end while the meds kicked in.

Snack wise I'm finding salted hula hoops and Jazz apples useful, quite pleased about the apples! Last time I gained 3st in the end which took 18 months to lose so hoping to gain less this time.

Kaff83 · 02/04/2019 03:08

Just joining the thread - baby number 3 here, due mid November. Older ones are 4.5 and 2.5! Feeling so sick all the time which I know is how it goes for me but it isn't making it any easier! Changing the 2 yo's nappies is hard going!

FirstTimeMama91 · 02/04/2019 07:14

@ChesMum2019 ok thanks Smile

Pollypocket5 · 02/04/2019 08:29

@Kaff83 Congratulations!!

Has anyone started buying anything yet? I know it's so early but I always find myself on mothercare or mamas and papas and finding it hard to resist.

AcatcalledGary · 02/04/2019 08:32

@Pollypocket5 no as I don’t want to tempt fate and also have no idea what I’m looking for! I have just ordered some maternity bras though as my boobs are just getting too big and sore to carry on wearing my usual bras. First pregnancy related purchase!

Lozzlepop · 02/04/2019 09:07

@BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil haha this looks amazing, can I have one for each day of the week please?

@thumper59 Ahhhhhh I am so so happy to read this 😍 sounds like an absolutely perfect way to spend mothers day weekend 😃so happy for you, can't wait for mine in a couple of weeks time- the time goes so slow when you are pregnant and nobody knows lol

For the ladies who are suffering from sickness my OH gave me a laugh this morning when he asked if you got given time off work for morning sickness....yes dear if you want to take a sick day or some holidays 🤣you don't just get allocated hours to use if you feel nauseous- although he could be on to something!

peaky297 · 02/04/2019 10:47

LADIES... I'm freaking out a little bit at the moment. I am now 6+1 from last period or 5+5 if I count from when I believe I ovulated (as I think I ovulated late). I had a 2-3 weeks on clear blue a week ago and expected it to now be 3+, but I did one this morning with fmu and it was still 2-3. Now I'm worried things arent as they should be and I wish I never peed on the damn stick!! Has anyone else experienced this and should I be concerned!?

Pollypocket5 · 02/04/2019 11:25

@peaky297 Hey lovely! I had the exact same with clear blue and the response I got was this was completely normal. Apparently some never get passed the 2-3 weeks stage. I have had my early scan so know everything is all ok so refuse to do any more of those pregnancy tests.

I completely understand your worry and and freaked too.

cakeordeath89 · 02/04/2019 11:33

@peaky297. I purposely didn't do another test after I got my 2-3 because I'd read several posts where people have taken them and still got 2-3 even as far along as 7/8 weeks. As Pollypocket5 said, I'm sure everything is fine and completely normal.

Do you have an early scan booked in the next few weeks? Perhaps get one booked and you can focus on looking forward to that :)

cakeordeath89 · 02/04/2019 11:37

Is anybody else struggling emotionally? Me and DH have kept it just between the two of us. He's quite busy with work (trainee teacher) and I'm finding it hard. I don't want to bemoan him and his lack of understanding, as he can't really understand what it feels like to not feel yourself, feel icky most of the day, want to get into bed straight after work. I have to admit to feeling incredibly overwhelmed and could easily cry at any point during the day.
I had hoped to be the type of person that enjoys every moment of pregnancy but at the moment, all I feel is a sense of panic and anxiety that I have no control over my own body. It's almost to the point that I don't want to tell anybody because they'll expect me to have certain feelings towards it all when they aren't there. I don't want to tell just anybody and I certainly wouldn't want to tell anybody before my parents but I don't think they're the type to really understand my feelings so seems like I'm going to be feeling this way until my 12 week scan.

dottydally · 02/04/2019 11:49

@cakeordeath89 I've found it really hard and I feel like I just look lazy at the minute. I drag myself to the gym 2 or 3 times a week and while it's hard to motivate myself, I do feel better afterwards.

I told my Mum at 7 weeks and have also told a friend. Friend is sworn to secrecy but has been my lifeline. We have a private scan in a week and I have one other friend (at work) who I will tell after that. In reality they are all people I would tell if something went wrong so I figured it was ok. DP hasn't told anyone yet but he doesn't seem to have the same level of anxiety as me over it all!

I have also felt an overwhelming fear about being pregnant. It was very planned and we waited a year to ttc to be in the best position, but I wasn't expecting it to happen on month 1 and I have struggled with that more than I expected. I struggle with the fact that surely something must go wrong as we can't be this lucky, but also with the fact I expected to have more time to get my head around the idea.

I've rambled a bit but hopefully it just shows you you're not on your own with feeling emotional all the time. Have you seen a midwife yet?

Hayley89 · 02/04/2019 11:52

Morning ladies! Just checking in! I've been a bit AWOL recently, things have been crazy with work and travelling round to family etc. (EXHAUSTING!!!!). Both families know now which is amazing and we went for our second scan last night. Got to see the heartbeat which was unlike anything I've ever felt. Very emotional. Measure at 15.9mm which is HUGE compared to the 2.6mm measurement from the first scan 15 days before 😍
It feels so real now so we're really pleased. Just hoping things carry on as they have been.

I've just seen some of your messages about maternity clothes. I've been really struggling around my middle and all I really own are fitted tops which make me feel disgusting now with the bloat! I didn't want to jinx it and buy actual maternity wear but I went into Tesco last weekend (love a bit of F&F!) and they've got some lovely shirts/tops in there that are loose fitted. Managed to get a couple in my usual size but I reckon they'll hide my belly for quite a while! I also bought a pair of shorts with a loose waist but now the weather is crap again so I'm back in the biggest and stretchiest pair of leggings I own 🙈😂

Pollypocket5 · 02/04/2019 12:03

@cakeordeath89 I feel like an emotional mess. I come home from work and go straight to bed and can't function. I guess because I don't look pregnant my boyfriend finds it hard to understand how I'm feeling. I have points where I just want to cry and don't want to feel anxious and worry anymore.

I am also really scared of needles so dreading the midwife appointment already.

I did a countdown calendar to my 12 week scan and that has made me feel better as whenever I do get anxious I just look at that.
