I've started this thread to have somewhere for those of us who have been through the IVF/ ICSI journey and have finally got our BFP! For support, symptoms chat and whatever else anyway wants to chat about....

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails Oh hun, I am so very sorry to read this. I hope you have wonderful support around you at such a difficult time. Take it easy X

womaninkent · 14/06/2019 14:26

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails so sorry to hear that.

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 16/06/2019 20:42

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate the kind thoughts. I told a few friends our news this weekend. I didn't plan to but it just slipped out. It was nice to celebrate it. It does still feel weird and I feel so anxious as 20 weeks feels a long way a way!

How is everyone else doing? Have most of you started to tell friends and family?

brighteye3986 · 16/06/2019 20:56

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails I know how you feel about the wait between 12 and 20 weeks! I'm 20 weeks tomorrow but still have another 2 weeks until my scan. We did pay for a private scan though at 17 weeks as I told DH 10 weeks from our 12 week scan was too long to wait! When do you see your midwife next? Hopefully they will monitor you more to make sure everything is ok. If not, it might be worth pushing for it as I feel that the time between appts is also long until after 25 weeks.

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails so sorry to hear that, hope you are doing ok. We had a private scan at 16 weeks just to ease the waiting a bit x

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 16/06/2019 21:29

Thanks @Positivity86 and @brighteye3986 yeah I was thinking no way will I last until
20 weeks so will book a private scan.

I must admit my midwife care has been a bit chaotic so far. My booking was late ish at 10+2 as there where no appointments available and I actually ended up going a few hours after I found out about the twin. I'd gone to the EPU and because of how late my booking was the consultant I saw recommended popping in to the appointment on the way back to make sure my 12 week scan was booked. She quite rightly didn't do my full booking but took a basic history and bloods. They then rushed my scan through and afterwards just told me to book in for the 16 week appointment. I assumed they would get me to see a consultant. I asked them and the midwife said she would request a consultant appointment as I need one anyway for having had a c section and for review over the twin. She then gave me an appointment for 4 weeks. I didn't really question it much as was just grateful the scan was ok. They have a weekly drop in I've just learned though so I'm going to pop along next week and have a chat. Hopefully they can get someone to have a good look at everything and check I'm down for all the right stuff.

Sorry for such a long post! Feel like I'm only just starting to think about the practical stuff

goodacookie · 18/06/2019 15:37

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails Same here re a late booking appt. I have mine tomorrow and will be 10+5 - I couldn't be seen before then and they wanted last week's scan first to ascertain all was still well which it was thankfully. Our nuchal scan has been booked for early July when I will be 12+4. Am holding off telling anyone about the babies until after that July date but it is getting harder as friends and extended family are chasing us for catch-ups (we have been hibernating and coming to terms with the multiples news). We had guests visiting from Oz over the weekend and it was exhausting hosting them plus hiding the obvious bump that has appeared. Will be so lovely to be able to share in July though!

It's a good thing that you have a weekly drop in and can check all the details. I need to do that tomorrow as I am a little confused about the chronology of blood tests and anticipated results + future scans. Its a steppingstones learning curve isn't it?!

goodacookie · 18/06/2019 15:38

*steep learning curve!

brighteye3986 · 03/07/2019 15:14

Hope everyone is doing well?

I had my 20 week scan today- I'm 22+2... baby decided he was being stubborn so all in all had an appointment that last almost 2.5 hours as had to have a rescan.

Luckily all is ok, although they are a little concerned about my blood pressure being on the slightly higher side, so I need to monitor that.

Also found out my trust book a scan for 36 weeks too, so have my next scan at the end of September!

PrayingandHoping · 03/07/2019 15:23

Not bad

Had my 20 week scan last week. All healthy but baby measuring small so had to have loads extra tests done and see consultant. Waiting for one more test back but they can't find reason so think she's just small (females my DH side are v short so not unsurprising)

I have to have fortnightly scans though from 24 weeks to keep monitoring her and she will be here by 37 weeks (mid Oct)

I'm 22 weeks tomorrow

DaisyMay25 · 03/07/2019 17:28

I had my 12 week scan last week and all was fine, baby was being naughty and took forever to get into position to be measured. All nt tests came back low risk so I'm happy about that.
Got a private gender scan on the 20th and will hopefully start buying stuff soon!
Got midwife in two weeks then consultant the day after to book extra scans in.
I'm under the impression where I live they're extra cautious with IVF.

@brighteye3986 glad all is going well, hopefully your blood pressure comes down!

@PrayingandHoping hopefully small baby means easy labour! At least you'll get to see lots of her before she arrives too!

goodacookie · 03/07/2019 18:36

Good thank you.

Glad to hear you are all doing well too.

Had our 12 week + 4 scan today and all three babies are thriving with low risk indicators. They were SO wriggly and one was downright naughty also taking an age to be measured, ha ha! Finally got some photo print-outs and cannot stop smiling here at home. Next scan booked for 16 +4 at end of this month, I don't know how you others handled such long waits between scans. This upcoming 4 week wait will be the longest period we have had to wait between scans as my hospital scan fortnightly from 16 weeks for multiples.

Sending positivity to you all.

DaisyMay25 · 03/07/2019 18:39

@goodacookie glad all three are doing well! I only have the one wand they was very naughty and ended up having to go for two walk, wriggle about, go from side to side and on all fours at one point! I know what you mean, waiting for scans is a nightmare!
Do you get a lot more because of there being three?

goodacookie · 03/07/2019 18:43

@DaisyMay25 Ha ha! Yes that's right. With a triplet pregnancy they automatically scan you every fortnight throughout the whole pregnancy from 16 weeks. I also have identical twins sharing one placenta in two separate sacs which elevates the risk of pregnancy quite dramatically, so they are really vigilant at keeping an eye on progress. The way that our scans have occurred so far were at 6 weeks to establish the IVF pregnancy, at 8 weeks, 10 weeks and today's.

brighteye3986 · 03/07/2019 19:22

@PrayingandHoping fingers crossed she will have a growth spurt and everything will be fine. At least they are monitoring you closely though.

@DaisyMay25 glad things are going well for you. I had a private scan at 17 weeks. I've got another scan under the NHS at 35 weeks and I have just booked a private 4D scan for 30+6! It's giving me something to look forward to.

@goodacookie glad all 3 babies are doing well! Again it's a good thing you are being monitored. The wait for scans normally is dreadful. I had 10 weeks exactly between my 12 week and 20 week scan on the NHS. I now have another in 13 weeks... with a private one in 8 😃. Are you planning on finding out what you're having or keeping it a surprise??

Positivity86 · 03/07/2019 22:01

Hi everyone, I'm 24 weeks today. Baby is very wriggly and seeing my tummy move around is amazing! I get round ligament pain now and again which can be painful but it doesn't last long. I also have a 36 week NHS scan booked in. Not sure if to book a private one in between though!!

Glad to hear everyone else is doing well, great to hear about the scans and all these lovely babies cooking nicely 😌

We are starting a hypnobirthing course this Friday. Is anyone else doing this?

brighteye3986 · 04/07/2019 05:11

@Positivity86 that's great to hear. I have baby kicking but can't wait to see him moving around!

I told DH I was booking a scan after my private one at 17 weeks but actually only booked it yesterday after making sure everything was ok! It seems like a long wait now I've booked it but because it's 4D I'm thinking the later it is the better as hopefully his features will be showing more. I also got it on a deal so was £79 instead of £135!

I've seen a lot of people suffering with PGP... there is a site I shared to a Facebook group called pelvicpartnership.org.uk that is meant to be really good. I haven't personally looked at it but others have commented on how good the information is on it.

Spoke with my midwife today as I wanted to enquire about when I need to sort out my GTT test. Also mentioned my blood pressure and she has arranged an appointment for me to see her next week... due to see her on the 18th for routine check but she wants to check me over next week. I think if my blood pressure is still high she may see me on a more regular basis.

OP posts:
Positivity86 · 05/07/2019 10:20

Thanks @brighteye3986 I will check that site out!
I am in 2 minds about having another private scan...part of me really wants to see her little face and features but then I quite like the thought of keeping it a surprise until she's born. Sounds like you got a good deal on yours!

It's good they are monitoring your blood pressure. Mine is unusually low which I've never had!

brighteye3986 · 05/07/2019 19:45

@Positivity86 I decided after I had my gender scan I was having another private scan but wanted to wait until I'd had my 20 week scan just in case. I understand your point though... I'm looking forward to seeing what he looks like!

I've never had any issues with my blood pressure and now it just seems to be high. I checked it this morning and this evening and still high... actually think this evenings is higher than it was on Wednesday at the hospital. I'm going to try and relax this weekend and hopefully that will make a difference.

I'm hoping someone can help, or just offer advice.
I'm not sure where else to look to an answer.

I had my 12 week scan two weeks ago and she commented on my ovaries being big.
In my notes it says
'Both ovaries contain small follicles and the right ovary slightly bulky (most likely due to recent ivf)'
Left ovary vol - 9.8ml
Right ovary vol - 14.6ml

Over the past few weeks I've got sharp pains where I imagine my right ovary to be.

Has this been the case for anyone else?
Not seeing my midwife until 17th

DaisyMay25 · 07/07/2019 20:40

*multiple small follicles

brighteye3986 · 07/07/2019 21:06

@DaisyMay25 I had all sorts of pulling and pains etc and constantly thought my period was coming. Everyone is slightly different and each persons body takes different times to recover following IVF.

You're body is also making all sorts of changes, preparing to carry a baby (or 2 or 3 in some cases).

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but if you are really concerned, I'd just give your midwife a call and see if they can advise... if not although you have probably been discharged from your hospital/ clinic where you had your IVF, you can always try giving them a call and see if anyone can give you advice.

OP posts:
DaisyMay25 · 07/07/2019 21:11

@brighteye3986 thanks, my clinic were lovely so that might be a good idea. I know it's probably nothing and hopefully is just things moving around.

brighteye3986 · 07/07/2019 21:13

@DaisyMay25 I know how much of a worry things can be. I'd definitely try giving a call to the clinic tomorrow- I'm sure someone there will be able to advise and ease your mind. I'd also bring it to your midwife's attention at your next appt too as it may be something they want to keep an eye on
