Is there any way this isn’t a miscarriage? :( warning tmi

12 weeks 2 days
Big PV bleed last night; enough to soak through the mattress protector and right through the mattress. Lots of tissue but nothing identifiable.

I went to a&e- they could see pieces of passed tissue there, the bleeding had slowed to a regular period within 2 hours. Cervix was closed upon examination 4 hours later.

Still bleeding lightly today. More tissue when I tried to bath earlier.

I can’t get a scan until tomorrow and just want to be as well prepared as possible. I asked the gynae team, they said they can’t confirm. Paperwork said “threatened miscarriage”.

Is there anything else it could be?

OP you poor thing.

I think you have to prepare that it might possibly not be good news but you clearly already know that and since you have specifically asked, I just wanted to say I had a similar bleed at 14 weeks, I thought there was no hope, MW in the emergency unit clearly thought so too as put us in a side room etc. Few hours later doctor was able to see us, cervix closed and scan showed baby bouncing about happily enough - he’s now 8 months old asleep upstairs. (It was a subchorionic haematoma. It increases risk of miscarriage so had to be monitored and I kept bleeding for 4 weeks.)

Everything crossed you get good news at scan. So not good enough you weren’t scanned then tbh but I guess the pressure on the nhs is insane.

I lost a twin but I presume you would have already known if you had two embryos.

💜 Fingers crossed for you.

Thank you jusdepamplemousse x

It feels like such a long time to wait :(

I’m sorry Fusioluxe, just one

You’ll know this time tomorrow OP. It is a huge time to wait. I’m sorry.

Can you get a scan first thing?

Anyotherway · 27/01/2019 20:15

@jusdepamplemousse I just googled that and it doesn’t seem likely - I’ve had 5 ultrasounds so far 3 internal, 2 external, last one as recently as Friday - they didn’t mention that :(

@Fusioluxe I’m going to call the early pregnancy unit first thing and see when I can go in. Hopefully early, as I’ll have my DS from school pick up onwards

I had a huge bleed just before my 12 week scan
There was a gush of blood, lots of clots, and then continued bleeding for 24 hours

I thought it had to be a MC but it turned out to be a subchorionic haemorrhage

DS is asleep upstairs now

I don’t want to give you false hope but I am keeping everything crossed for you

My SCH meant a few extra scans and a ban on exercise, sex and blood thinners (eg aspirin) for the rest of my pregnancy but ultimately no ill effects on the baby

Anyotherway · 27/01/2019 20:19

Happy to hear that @tenbob x

Would they pick a SCH up on ultrasounds?

I am a bit shocked they didn't scan u as an emergency. Surely they need to confirm the pregnancy is in the correct position. I have had three pregnancies and only have one son therefore I know about miscarriage unfortunately. My first one my GP didn't care and sent me home and I then contacted the out of hours and he arranged for me to have a scan the next morning. My second I knew what was happening (no pain just knew in my gut). Third time I had a massive bleed and passed a golf ball size blood clot around 5 weeks and I though well that's it but the bleeding stopped the day after. Scanned and everything was fine he's turning two. I don't want to give false hope but you need a scan

Hiphopopotamous · 27/01/2019 20:23

I also had a SCH with DC1 but it was different to how you describe, more like a period bleed.

I think if you have seen tissue it is likely the pregnancy has passed. Getting an earlier scan will change nothing unfortunately.
Very sorry.

@motherone

I’m sorry :(

I’m shocked too. After 111 insisting on an amvulance (I didn’t take one) I really hoped it would be the first thing they’d do. 4 hours in a&e and they said there’s no one around to scan- just that I should call [this] number Monday if I didn’t get a call.

@Hiphopopotamous

That’s what I half expected.

If there’s any chance it wasn’t a miscarriage and I was bleeding that much, surely they would have seen me as an emergency?

It is awful to have to wait. I had a scan a week for four weeks with my first mc as they weren't sure if the pregnancy was progressing or not. I now have a fear of the ultrasound machine and the noise it makes to print out brings Bk awful memories. When pregnant with my son I swore I had passed the baby due to the size of the clot/tissue I only went for a scan as my hubby wanted me to and was advised to. I was so shocked when she scanned me because I stopped bleeding they were just gonna do a blood test and forego the scan (my previous mc the beta took a long time to go to normal again) I was delighted but scared as no heartbeat two weeks later scan showed heartbeat 😊 I really hope this is not a mc for you but do prepare yrself and guard yr heart.

tenbob · 27/01/2019 20:40

I had 2 scans at 8 weeks and 10 weeks and neither mentioned the SCH to me

The sonographer who confirmed it after the bleed said they are quite common and they see them on a lot of scans but most resolve themselves so they don’t mention them unless they are severe so they don’t cause unnecessary stress and worry

I think they are also not always immediately visible if they haven’t yet filled with blood so it’s possible they have been missed

Mine was an IVF pregnancy so I was already on progesterone support but there is some evidence that supplementing with extra progesterone can help ‘heal’ a SCH, so if you do end up being diagnosed with one, it’s worth asking if you can get a prescription for some

I had a huge SCH at 13+3. I was pouring with blood into a bedpan by the time I got to hospital. Cervix was closed but I was told it was all over. A scan four hours later showed it was not. The haematoma cleared itself by my 20 week scan. DD has just turned 7. Wishing you the best of luck Thanks

Anyotherway · 27/01/2019 21:39

Do the SCHs contain tissue?

There’s no doubt, it wasn’t just blood and they weren’t blood clots. I wish I could sleep

There were big clumpy bits in with the blood in my case, which made me panic. Pregnancy is an absolute minefield :( Thanks

Seline · 27/01/2019 21:55

I had a SCH that contained clots and was a bigger bleed than my miscarriages
