Is there any way this isn’t a miscarriage? :( warning tmi

12 weeks 2 days
Big PV bleed last night; enough to soak through the mattress protector and right through the mattress. Lots of tissue but nothing identifiable.

I went to a&e- they could see pieces of passed tissue there, the bleeding had slowed to a regular period within 2 hours. Cervix was closed upon examination 4 hours later.

Still bleeding lightly today. More tissue when I tried to bath earlier.

I can’t get a scan until tomorrow and just want to be as well prepared as possible. I asked the gynae team, they said they can’t confirm. Paperwork said “threatened miscarriage”.

Is there anything else it could be?

Did/do you have any pain OP?

Anyotherway · 28/01/2019 14:46

I’m bleeding again. Oh gosh this is traumatic.

I’m in pain again now, it had subsided and the bleeding had stopped.

Unfortunately the same thing happened to me last week, really heavy bleed whilst at my booking appt, the midwife couldn’t get me in at the EPU for another 2 days, so ended up going private. Is there a private clinic you could go to? Xx

lakehouse · 28/01/2019 14:50

So sorry to hear this @Anyotherway . Can you go to one of the private scan places? For less than £100 they should be able to tell you what they see and may have availability today?

JingleJake · 28/01/2019 14:53

I can’t believe they aren’t seeing this as urgent! I did have a bleed and everything was fine but you definitely need to get checked out. Can’t even imagine how you must be feeling.

Anyotherway · 28/01/2019 14:59

I wonder whether I need to go back to a&e or whether this is what I should expect?

I’ve tried to call the early pregnancy unit but I can’t get through

@lakehouse

I hadn’t even thought of that, I wonder where I could search. I’ll google

@anyotherway, I had a similar situation at 8 weeks. I was bleeding with clots, heavily, and they refused to scan me. Are you able to get a private scan, to settle your own mind?
Keeping my fx'd for you.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/01/2019 15:01

Go to a and e - explain the pain and the bleeding again.

fayeandben · 28/01/2019 15:13

It’s terrible they are making you wait like this I had bleeding at the beginning of this pregnancy (now 21weeks) and they saw me the same day and scanned me. Book in at a private clinic. Where do you live I can look for you!? X

Melamine · 28/01/2019 15:18

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I had a similar experience over Easter weekend and the EPU couldn’t see me for 3 days thanks to bank holiday, so I went for a private scan. It was worth it just to know. Good luck OP x

Gobletoffire · 28/01/2019 15:27

sorry to hear you are going through this OP. I haven’t read the entire thread so sorry if his has already been suggested but could you ring 111 to explain the situation and see if there is anywhere else, any other hospitals not too far, that could urgently scan you? X

Anyotherway · 28/01/2019 15:36

I’ve called all the hospitals within an hour radius :(

I managed to speak to the doctor, who said that’s it’s very likely to have been a miscarriage in which case this is very normal, that I need to sit tight and manage the pain until tomorrow.

That’s so kind @fayeandben but I fear I may give myself away.

I have just called the local private scanning place and they said I need referral from a GP, even though it doesn’t say that on their website! Uh.

I’m just going to have to wait. It’s excruciating

How awful that they wouldn’t scan you. Thinking of you.
I had similar in my second pregnancy (3 days of on-off bleeding with clots and cramping) and all was fine in the end, they never could tell me why it had happened. A couple of midwives I spoke to at the time told me that about 50% of the people they see with bleeding will go on to have a healthy pregnancy.

willisurvive3under2 · 28/01/2019 16:07

You can get an early/reassurance scan at places like Babybond/UltrasoundDirect - you can just book online. No referral needed IME. Do you have one of those near you?

fayeandben · 28/01/2019 16:07

Don’t tell them your bleeding. Just book an appointment as if you are just paying for one for interest. It’s awful waiting but if you need me to book it or haven’t gone it then he might money I can help you. Just private message me xx

fayeandben · 28/01/2019 16:07

Book it or haven’t got the money I can have elk *

GabbyGal · 28/01/2019 16:10

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this OP, and I can’t believe how difficult it is to get a scan x

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 28/01/2019 16:40

I would (and have) just gone to A&E in this situation and they scanned me on a mobile machine.

JustMe18 · 28/01/2019 16:46

OP.. Do you have any news?

RedPandaMama · 28/01/2019 16:51

Oh poor you, that must be so awful. Thinking of you and praying everything is fine.

Anyotherway · 28/01/2019 16:58

@MaryPoppinsPenguins I thought they’d do the same when I was in a&e. The doctors at the time and the doctor I’ve just spoken to was absolutely insistent that they won’t scan me because there is simply no one to do the scan, that the sonographers don’t do emergency cover and will only see me for a scheduled appointment - for which the earliest slot was tomorrow.
I find that so hard to believe but I have no choice other than to do so. I wish it weren’t the case.

I’m in London. It’s not as if I am somewhere rural with limited resource.

@fayeandben

That’s so kind of you. I have called 3 places now and none can do it this evening- they all close at 6.
I have my son home from school now (we live alone) so I wouldn’t be able to go anyway.

I have spent a whole day phoning hospitals and pleading with anyone who will listen but to no avail
