@MrsC87 congrats!

@FivexFive I would say you need to do what you feel most comfortable with and is best for you. Just explain to DH how you feel and why you feel like that. Having said that though at 7 weeks I don't think there is any risk to the embryo in going to a gig even if you were shoved a bit- maybe I'm thinking of this the wrong way but you are able to exercise and carry on in the normal way at this stage so I wouldn't say you need to be super wary about a gig. I would definitely go to this one and then you can make a judgment call for next time. maybe you just need to take a call each time based on how you are feeling generally and how vulnerable you feel.

Bettythecat · 09/02/2019 17:18

Sorry i realised I didn't answer your question! The answer is no you definitely aren't being unreasonable you are being totally sensible and level headed about it. I just think try not to worry too much as I doubt there is any real risk there so don't let worrying get in the way of your fun!

Told my mum this morning girls- she cried! She's extremely happy and even made me go into Jo Jo Maman Bebe earlier 😂 possibly a bit premature 🤦‍♀️ I also went for the 30th lunch I was worrying about and I honestly think they must have guessed. I had half a glass of Prosecco then nothing else and it was so obvious as they offered me more several times. Now I kind of wish I had told my besties as not only did I have to lie to them but I imagine they will have guessed anyway!

FivexFive · 09/02/2019 17:19

@bettythecat, good call 🙂 I know I'm being a bit ridiculous really! I'm always careful at gigs anyway, as I'm so small in the early days I learned some good ways not to get bashed around etc.

How are you feeling? Xx

FivexFive · 09/02/2019 17:23

@bettythecat, just saw your 2nd post, that's so lovely about your mum, she must be absolutely made up💜 As for your friends, maybe they guessed, but you might have gotten away with it? Sometimes we think we're being obvious, because we Know there's a Secret, but actually people don't catch on?! Have they said anything about it? They're more tactful than my mates if they haven't! Xx

Bettythecat · 09/02/2019 17:47

@FivexFive well one of my besties used to ask me every time I said no to a drink or even when I only had one drink but was still drinking and as we were TTC at the time and I was struggling with it I found it quite upsetting and insensitive to the point I told her to stop asking me and that I would tell her when I was so I think she's desperate to ask but is too scared to! My other best friend who was there is too subtle to ask me in front of people but I think the others didn't clock. The birthday girl was really sweet about it because I told her it was because I am going to visit my poorly grandpa tomorrow (which I am) but still feel a bit guilty.

I don't think you are being ridiculous about the gig at all but I do think maybe with the information that's out there it makes us all very cautious and worry a lot. I just said to my mum I felt bad about having had half a glass of Prosecco and wasn't sure if I should have my second cup of tea and she was like "for goodness sake there are women who crave coal in pregnancy (not entirely sure of the connection there 🤷‍♀️) and plenty of women have had healthy babies doing much worse than half a glass of Prosecco" 😂 and this is coming from an ex midwife!

I'm feeling fine basically although not sleeping well so feel tired as a result. Have definitely put on weight and think I might have had some very vague nausea but pretty good all in all! How about you?

FivexFive · 09/02/2019 18:05

@bettythecat, your mum sounds like a wise lady!! Much more so than my dad, who goes on about some Charlton Heston film where a woman gives birth tied to a tree?!!

Sounds like you got away with it and when you do tell them, they'll be over the moon for you 🙂

Also, here is a picture of the cake I made today for my mums birthday 🎂

Bettythecat · 09/02/2019 18:08

@FivexFive oh my god that honestly looks amazing!! Would love a slice of that to go with my tea right now. Loving all these food pictures- food and babies, what could be better?!

She is a wise lady I must say and it's lovely to see her so excited- she just welled up again whilst congratulating my DH over the phone!! Bless her.

FivexFive · 09/02/2019 18:13

@bettythecat, that is so sweet, bless her!

Yeah I think the cooking/baking is a way to chill out and stop thinking about the massive impending changes that are afoot... Dh is loving it because he gets to taste test 😂

stormtrooperjulian · 09/02/2019 18:40

@Bettythecat I told my mum today too, she cried when I told her then again when I asked if she’d be my birth partner (DH will be there too of course but I’m pretty sure he’ll panic and that won’t be much help to me, my mum will be calm and reassuring).

@FivexFive that cake looks amazing! I love baking but I’m too dizzy to stand up for long enough to bake anything at the moment.

Bettythecat · 09/02/2019 18:44

@stormtrooperjulian oh that's lovely- I'm not sure who I will want with me just yet other than DH but I must say the idea of not having my Mumma around is strange. This is why I want a girl so that I can have this sort of relationship with her!! Mums and their girls have such lovely relationships and it's just not the same with boys. My DH has a brother and now that the two of them are coupled up I'm not sure their poor mum gets much of a look in! Anyway- I digress! Xx

EltzBee · 09/02/2019 19:50

@Bettythecat I know some girls who have awful relationship's with their mums, and some boys who are really close. It's down to individuals and how people are brought up and personalities. As long as they're healthy it doesn't really matter what they are

canonlyhopexo · 09/02/2019 21:13

OMG @FivexFive the cake looks lush! I love baking but very much a novice in comparison to your masterpiece. I'm looking forward to getting back in the kitchen doing some bits when I feel bit more myself. I love making soft chewie cookies and banana cake the most.

I am soooo close with my Mum and speak to her every single day and there's not a lot I don't tell her. I only moved out of home a couple of years ago and I cried my eyes out! She has been round to see me on weekend when my DP was working as I've been pretty bedbound and I just wanted a cuddle from her and she sat with me in bed. I am such a drip! I would love her to be there when we go to hospital to support both me and DP but she has said she doesn't want to see the actual birth as is a special time for us to have privately

ChaosMoon · 09/02/2019 21:30

@Crossfitgirl that's such a good idea. We're doing Bump and Baby rather that NCT because they include baby first aid in the course.

That's great news @stormtrooperjulian. It must have been lovely to tell your parents

@FlapJackered I'm sure in the 7th of April. It seems so soon now! Still haven't done the tour of the birth centre though. I really need to do that!

That's so lovely @MrsC87. Congratulations!

@FivexFive That's absolutely reasonable. And keep in mind that how you feel will change as you go along. There will be time your not to for it and two weeks later you might love the idea and feel fine. And as you say, the audience can be very different from one gig to the next. I'd take it in a gig by gig basis. Oh and that cake looks amazing!

Ah, @Bettythecat your mum sounds so sweet.

Crossfitgirl · 09/02/2019 21:49

@fivexfive just stand at the back where there's a bit of room, and you can usually see better, and you can skank or stand still or whatever at your leisure. That's what I'd do. Ive found that even when I'm tired, an environment like that actually perks me up (went to a comedy show recently, was shattered on the way, but perked right up once we were there). If you don't like it, you don't have to go to any more. And you can always leave if you don't feel comfortable!

@mrsc87 congratulations on your little boy! Do you have any names in mind? Sooo happy for you! Xx

@bettythecat @stormtrooperjulian aww happy days telling your mums! My mum was so underwhelmed when I told her, I was a bit disappointed! But she's got more excited I think just needed time to sink in!
@betty I want a girl too. I know I just want a healthy baby. But I can't help it, I am even a bit worried that if its a boy ill be a little bit disappointed. I feel so guilty for thinking that. But it's how I feel! Xxx

RanchoRelaxo · 09/02/2019 21:56

Woo @MrsC87 lovely news 😍💙
So that's one girl one boy so far! Has anyone else found out what they are having? Any of you further along? I can't remember if I've read it on the other threads :)

MrsC87 · 09/02/2019 21:58

Thanks ladies, it's been a wonderful day celebrating. Even bought a couple of things in blue 💙 it's so hard to know what clothes to buy with summer temps and baby weight all a guessing game!

MrsC87 · 09/02/2019 21:59

Oh and we like Noah Frederick at the moment @Crossfitgirl. He'll be the first grandson for both sets of parents 🥰

OP posts:
Crossfitgirl · 09/02/2019 22:22

Aww @mrsc87 I love Noah, I had contemplated it myself for a boy amongst others. There's a few I like but none I love, I think which is the main reason at the mo I'm biased towards a girl as I love the name Olivia!
I can't wait to buy little baby things! I'd just basically buy everything, just in case 😂as if you need an excuse.
We find out the sex in just 2 weeks, exciting!

FlapJackered · 10/02/2019 07:26

It's strange, I am actually much closer to my Dad than my Mum. I love my Mum but I wouldn't want her to be at the birth, it would stress me out 😂

@MrsC87 congratulations!!! That is very exciting! Now you can really start to picture what he is going to be like! I love the name Noah.

@Crossfitgirl Olivia is one of my top girls names too, such a pretty name!

@FivexFive how did the gig go? Was it better than you expected or do you think you'll give it a miss next time?
And omg that cake! You have skills Mrs five!

@stormtrooperjulian congratulations on telling your mum to! That is so lovely that she will be your birth partner too. Very special. ❤️

@ChaosMoon that is not long! You're going to meet your baby in 2 months!

@Bettythecat ah that is so sweet your mum cried. I bet it was amazing for her to know!
It is really hard keeping it from people isn't it?
Before getting pregnant I thought it would be really fun keeping it a secret and fooling people with fake g&ts etc. But honestly I just feel really shit lying to everyone. I am telling my sister on Wednesday and parents and brother on Saturday so not too long to wait it's just hard as I am seeing quite a bit of my brother before that.

Have you read 'Expecting Better'? It's actually great. It's an economist who goes through all the studies done on all the things you're meant to do and avoid in pregnancy for example alchohol and coffee in pregnancy and talks about how much you really can have. It's great, and it turns out 1 glass is really not going to make an iota of difference. One of the studies that is often quoted half the participants also admitted taking cocaine regularly, so the chances are that is what was effecting the results! Sorry I will stop essay writing and let you read it if you want to!

MrsLBear · 10/02/2019 08:30

Hi ladies. I keep flicking in and out. I literally get home from work, eat and sleep. Roll on 12 weeks I say!!!
My dates got moved forward too with my booking appt as they obvs do it from your last day of your period so mine changed by like 9 days. Which I know is crap as I tested on Boxing Day and it was a stark negative which would have been 4 weeks since my last period. So I'm eager to see what they say when I have my scan which is in less than 2 weeks. EEEEEEK!!!!
I think I'm coming down with a sore throat/cough hopefully not a chest infection and we have to go to my parents today for lunch to meet my brothers new gf. Really cannot be bothered.

Awwww how special @MrsC87 First little boy!!! I'm intrigued, what did you and DH think the baby would be?

MrsC87 · 10/02/2019 09:00

I was 90% sure he was a boy and hubby had no clue lol @MrsLBear
The old wives tales apart from the heartbeat sounding like a train all pointed to a girl so they are a load of rubbish 🤣
I bet you can't wait @Crossfitgirl, love the name Olivia too 💗

FivexFive · 10/02/2019 10:13

Hi all, wow it has been busy on here!! Will try to tag where I can...

@bettythecat, I'm the same with my mum, we chat every day, dh is, even after 10 years, totally baffled by what we find to talk about!!

@flapjackered, good luck this week telling the family. I know you're nervous about telling your sister, but I'm sure she will be truly happy for you and will appreciate that you're being so considerate about it xx

@mrsc87, Noah is a lovely name! Weird question, but now you know you're having a son and are even close to a name, has it made the whole thing seem so much more real? X

@crossfitgirl, Olivia is a really pretty name, my boss named her daughter that and it really suits her. Even though it is really too early for us to seriously talk about names, we've always liked Ava for a girl. Not decided on a boys name... Years ago, my dh actually wanted Maximo for a boy?! Thankfully we called the cat Maximo instead!!

Happy Sunday to all! The gig was good, agree @crossfitgirl, always feel better one we're there. Will take them on a gig by gig basis now. And thank you all for the cake compliments! The shards were actually on there because I attempted a chocolate dome, which went horribly wrong, so I smashed it up, hence the shards!!

I'm thinking if a letter for our scan doesn't arrive by next Mon (2 weeks after first midwife apt) maybe we should call to ask?

Xx

Bettythecat · 10/02/2019 11:54

Good morning all and what a lovely lot of messages to catch up on! How does everyone make sure they respond to the right person about the right thing? I've started noting down who has said what in a little notebook so that I don't miss anyone out 😂. I'm just in the car on the way up to visit my grandpa with my dad and brother (I'm not driving don't worry 😂) and my brother has just asked me what I'm doing and I had to make up that I was on a cat forum and was noting down what people have said. Probably says a lot about me that they actually believed that lol.

@canonlyhopexo sounds like you have a lovely relationship with your mum. There's still nothing better to me than a cuddle with mine- I've been up visiting this weekend and it's been lovely to have that from her.

@ChaosMoon we are going to do bump and baby too! It's only in London I think so I wonder where you're based. Wouldn't it be funny if we were on the same course!! I did have a quick look at local NCTs when you girls were mentioning it but the bump and baby ones popped up too and seem a bit more "trendy" than the NCTs in our area- I think I was actually just persuaded by the fact they meet in the pub 😂I'm sure it's the same content though really.

@Crossfitgirl I don't think it's bad at all don't worry- of course we will really be happy whatever sex we both have but it's still ok to have a bit of a preference at this stage when we still don't know. We will love them just the same regardless anyway! I'm sure your mum is really thrilled she was probably just totally overwhelmed by it as it's such big news- her baby is having a baby!!

@MrsC87 that's such a lovely name I love it. I like Freddie for a boy for a first name too. Do you have any other names on your list? For a boy I like Arthur, Stanley and Edward (Teddy). I said Stanley to my mum last night though and she wasn't keen! I think it's cute! A solid name! What little clothes did you buy?

@FlapJackered no I haven't read it but I've heard you mention it a few times and it sound great and I'm really intrigued so I might order it. I think it's hard to know what parts of what you read online are true and some of it isn't actually backed up by much evidence is it. It's just the super cautious view. I'm still having caffeine but having it below the 200mg recommended. Does the book say anything about that? Xx

FivexFive · 10/02/2019 12:12

@bettythecat, omg if I said I was on a cat forum my family would 100% believe me too!! Here's mine...

I'm West midland based, so think it will be nct group for us, but might check out if there are others now you guys have mentioned it 🤔

Catching up with those from TTC thread- 2
Crossfitgirl · 10/02/2019 12:13

@bettythecat I would also highly recommend Expecting Better. Think @chaosmoon would too as she recommended it to me if I'm correct. It's brilliant. Has a whole chapter on caffeine. From what I remember (memory like a seive) it's fine to have up to 300/400mg a day, but it's your personal choice as to what you decide. She just presents the evidence and risks etc. Recommendations interestingly vary across the world.
Ive been having up to 2 cups of tea or coffee a day plus chocolate when I've wanted, although I'm not actively limiting it, I just don't fancy more than that at the mo.
