39 weeks today and I'm so ready to have this baby now.

I've been quite lucky in that I've had an easy enough pregnancy (morning sickness manageable, if a bit pants; no aches and pains until about 30 weeks etc.) so thank my lucky stars for that, but these past couple of weeks, I'm just done.

Can't remember the last good night's sleep I had, hips hurt so much. Turning over in bed requires the same effort as moving a small family of hippos, and my back frequently feels like it's breaking.

I've had no noticeable signs of labour starting any time soon, which is getting to me, as my induction date at 41 weeks looms ever closer for a predicted 9.9lb baby.

And now the festive period is over, I'm bored on my maternity leave. Everything is done in the house and I am forcing myself out and about so I don't just sit and eat. Plus, I have a DH (who is lovely btw) whose clearly having a moment of 'holy shit, I'm having in baby in 2 weeks or less' and a MIL (who is equally lovely) who won't let me so much as pick up a feather.

Sorry for the rant- there's no point to it. And breathe.

@SoyDora I hope this time this works for you my lovely! Thanks
I can understand why you're stressed out, is there anyone else who can sort out children?

I'm anxious about being kept in hospital during pessary/induction.. (I have severe anxiety of hospitals as it is) How's your hospital stay been so far?

SoyDora · 08/01/2019 09:45

I haven’t stayed yet SadCupcake, I went home last night to see how things progressed than had to report back at 7.30am this morning. I know what you mean about hospitals though. Last time I was in hospital I was in intensive care with sepsis so I’m not a huge fan!
I have got friends who can help out with the children, the logistics are just giving me a headache!

m4rdybum · 08/01/2019 10:10

@SoyDora - sorry to hear it's progressing slowly! (Or I suppose, backwards?!)

If I reach induction, unfortunately they don't let you go home here and you have to stay in, so I'm hoping the first pessary works. Have you been doing laps of the hospital? I know they say walking is supposed to help.

I've decided I'm going to chill out this week and try to take my mind off it all (due date on Friday). I'll ramp it up a notch once I'm actually overdue. Me and DH DTD last night and it was really quite uncomfortable- but unfortunately nothing happened during the night.

To be honest I’d rather have stayed m4rdybum, I find the coming and going really disruptive. They asked if I’d rather go home or hang around after the reinsertion this morning and I opted to stay put... currently pacing the corridors!

SadCupcake · 08/01/2019 10:58

@SoyDora i really hope this gets things going for you my lovely!

@m4rdybum sex is so uncomfortable and not even enjoyable! Me and hubby tried to; not worth it 😂

I'm so clueless if I am to go in for an induction tomorrow.. do you take all your stuff with you for you and baby?? Me and partner don't drive so not sure what the protocol would even be!
I need to call my parents so they can come up (they live 3 hours away) and help us both out. Mum is going to be birth partner too but not even sure when I should call them!
Any suggestions?

AimseyR · 08/01/2019 11:17

Just been for midwife appt and told that the head isn't even engaged yet Shock I am surprised as walking has been so much more uncomfortable for the past week or so, so really thought it was. Oh well, maybe I need to just push through the pain and go for some long walks!

@Sonora, maybe you could relax more if you assume you'll be in hospital tomorrow as well and make arrangements with your friends now for sorting out your other children? I'm sure they'd understand and then you could focus on you for a bit.

AimseyR · 08/01/2019 12:00

Oh dear, that should have said @SoyDora...I hate predictive text, esp when I forget to check it!

harrypotterfan1604 · 08/01/2019 13:06

@SoyDora sorry to hear your not having a great time, inductions are often long drawn out and boring but on the plus side there’s an end in sight for you lovely.

I’ve been to the consultant today, he did a sweep in a fashion but couldn’t do it properly because he said baby is simply not ready 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m 4 days overdue so I’m booked for induction on Friday if nothing happens.
I feel calmer knowing there’s a plan in place but giving birth still feels like a millions years off yet.
Feeling uncomfortable after the attempt at a sweep and quite emotional too. Wanted to cry at the appointment not sure why.
Trying to have a nap as I’ve had no sleep but that’s not happening either so thinking while it’s a fairly nice day to go for a little walk fresh air will probably do me some good x

Curlypop · 08/01/2019 13:34

Sorry the sweep wasn't great @harrypotterfan1604 you never know what will happen.
Ive been cleaning the house from top to bottom all day mainly on all fours so baby stays the right way and doesn't go back to back!

m4rdybum · 08/01/2019 18:39

@SadCupcake does your maternity unit let you leave once you have had the pessary or do you have to stay in? If you have to stay in, I would take everything in with you, so you have it. Lots of people say take extra entertainment in as well, as it can be a slow process. I'm going to download loads of stuff from Netflix, just in case I do go in next Friday to be induced.

@harrypotterfan1604 Sorry to hear the sweep wasn't straight forward. I'm planning to first get my midwife to check position of cervix, and I'll tell her not to bother if it's not in prime position. Walking is good if you're up to it- keep LO's head on the cervix :)

SadCupcake · 08/01/2019 18:49

@m4rdybum I'm not really sure; they've not been the most straightforward with answers. I've got to call up in the morning to see if I can go in for the induction (if a bed is free) so I think I'll ask on the phone what's best for me to do. As we can't drive, I'm hoping I can stay there until Bub is born (will be exciting to go in knowing I'm going to come out with a baby!!)

@SoyDora I hope everything is progressing for you!Smile

SoyDora · 09/01/2019 02:57

He’s here! As soon as things started moving it was actually fairly quick and straightforward... first proper contraction around 7pm and born on the stroke of midnight. 7lbs 13oz. We’re just waiting the required 6 hours before being discharged.

SadCupcake · 09/01/2019 05:16

@SoyDora OMG congratulations! I bet he's beautiful! 😘

m4rdybum · 09/01/2019 06:46

AimseyR · 09/01/2019 08:47

Great to hear @SoyDora...congratulations Flowers x

m4rdybum · 09/01/2019 18:56

DH suggested I had a nap in the day to see if it brought things on - just woken up from a two hour one!

No sign of anything but felt quite nice to just take myself off to bed.

Now to get up and make tea Halo

SadCupcake · 09/01/2019 19:24

I went in for a pessary at 2pm, came home and was so achy, now having contractions all over the place!!

Hoping this is it now!

SoyDora · 09/01/2019 19:28

Thanks all. We were home by 7.30am so ideal really Smile
Good luck SadCupcake!

Curlypop · 09/01/2019 19:48

Great news @SoyDora
Does anyone know if when your bump gets hard at the top and you feel pressure down below that's a Braxton-Hick? I've had that since 4ish off and on today.

m4rdybum · 09/01/2019 20:36

Glad to hear things are moving on for you @SadCupcake. Sounds like you'll be making a trip back to the hospital tonight.

I think that sounds like a Braxton @Curlypop. I definitely get tightening, mainly when I'm sat down.

OP posts:
Don35 · 09/01/2019 22:18

Yes @curlypop unfortunately they are braxton hicks. Labour pains feel more like period cramps in your lower belly.

Every time my belly goes rock hard, I'm thinking yep this is it. But it doesn't amount to anything 😞

I even spent an hour today shaving my lady garden, just to give me something to do to take my mind off wanting to go into labour! God that was a chore 🤣

Curlypop · 10/01/2019 09:17

Oooo I've had my show - probably not all of it this morning. That has to be a kinda good sign! Never had one with first baby!

m4rdybum · 10/01/2019 09:42

A step in the right direction @Curlypop!

I'm jealous but also glad to know you didn't have one with your first, so I might not either.

harrypotterfan1604 · 10/01/2019 10:37

@Don35
Shaving my lady garden and my legs is on my list of things to do today ready to go in for induction tomorrow 😂 my partner says I’m silly but I’m not doing it for the sake of others it’s more for me about feeling clean.

Lots of things to do today to keep my mind occupied, grooming myself 😂, cleaning the house, doing washing, repacking my hospital bag for the 100000000th time 🙈
