Thought I'd start this in honour of Purple's effort so far, hope you don't mind Purple I liked this title best.

Welcome to our shiny new thread

booking in is quite early here...8-10 weeks.

You can self refer (i did last time) but only if there is bleeding. I don't want to jinx things by pretending iam bleeding. Our EPu is more for emergancys in early pregnancy like bleeding and cramps etc. you are under the midwife from day one here (well week 8-10!)

daisyandbabybootoo · 08/08/2007 17:55

i see...not keeping up with the thread, so didn't know your full story. i hope they see you quickly . the MS is a good sign though.

as an alternative, can you get a private scan done? i had a panic at 9 weeks and couldn't wait for my dating scan so we paid for a privae scan. it was £70 that we could have used elsewhere, but definately worth it for my sanity and peace of mind.

Glimmer · 08/08/2007 18:06

well, I seem to be the only one with a EDD in November and am slowly transitioning into the third trimester (only 26 weeks, but I am getting noticably heavier and sleepier). I thought I share something with those of you who are similarly ignorant as I (sorry). I had my first Braxton-Hick contractions and they can be quite scary if you don't know what they are. It's 'practice contractions' for the utuers and some women have them starting around week 24 or later. It's just that with all the paranoia, I was a little concerned I might go into premature labour, but they stopped and it is just 'one of these things'. I had heard about them and talked to my midwife who confirmed that my contractions sounded exactly like them.
So if you will experience them, no reaso to be freaked out about. Meilleure dames of this thread, did you have them?

Sorry about the 'me' post, seems we are all ripening slowly, though, aren't we?

becklespeckle · 08/08/2007 18:09

Just a quick note before I scoot off out to work, will catch up properly tomorrow.
Scan went well today and there were no problems seen (phew!). Radiographer had a look to see which flavour we were having but baby had its little legs crossed! She said that although she couldn't be certain because of legs being crossed it looks like it a girl! DH is very very pleased and I am quite shocked as I thought it would be a boy - obviously there is still a chance of that but baby looks nice and healthy so I am well chuffed too!

daisyandbabybootoo · 08/08/2007 18:34

good news beckle...now you can relax and enjoy till the knicker checking starts again around 36 weeks

glimmer, i had very painful bhs from about 30 weeks, so much so that i was in hospital for monitoring twice at 32 weeks and had several "am i, aren't i in labour?" turns from 35 weeks onwards!

i did find that if i was dehydrated they would be much much worse and the hospital confirmerd that a thirsty uterus is a painful uterus! i was told to drink a minimum of 3 litres of water a day....so get guzzling.

ejt1764 · 08/08/2007 19:02

I've been feeling the bh with this pg since about 18 weeks ... and I've been told I have an "irritable uterus" - and yes, if I'm thirsty, they're quite painful!

They're also noticeable if I'm

  • tired
  • stressed
  • have a full bladder
  • lean forwards for any length of time
  • wearing something that presses on my lower abdomen

I also get them after sex .... (or anything resembling it lol )

Uki · 09/08/2007 08:41

Beckle- great news about ultrasound and little girl Girls do seem to always be the shy ones at scans- CONGRATULATIONS

Braxton hics- I've had none yet, so I have no idea, what they feel like, I reakon they are good practice though.

Just came back from Dr. he was quite concerned abot diarrhea, thinks LO will get it when born and that won't be good. he also took my BP three times and i have to now go for monitoring at hospital every second day. as he is worried about blood flow to baby now that i'm not on asprin. he also said the hospital was quite full, which doesn't sound good. Not to worried about anemaia, as he thinks diarrhea is more of a problem making me weak.

Sorry for the whinging post

Glimmer · 09/08/2007 09:46

EJT and Daisy -- thanks for the BH tips. I have been traveeling a lot recently, so the stress and dehydratation were certainly a factor.

Beckle -- fab news. What a relief!

Uki you are certainly entitled to whine, whinge and wiggle here!!! Sorry about diarrhea. I have been much more prone to it since I felt pregnant, but never to the degree that it made me tired. One one hand it's good that you are closely monitored, but please don't let them scare you! Is your BP high? Why would LO get diarrhea does he think it's a bug or is it cause by pg-hormones? Will you get treatment? I hope you are doing better really soon!

MrsMcJnr · 09/08/2007 11:16

Hey ladies feeling very and Just got into trouble due to nasty HR woman. I got a meeting invite for a trainee coffee reception just at the time of our scan on 4/9. I declined it and explained the reason. She then complained to my divisional manager I keep pulling out of things and saying that I can't do things and used the fact that I couldn't go to a training course as an example (which I missed due to the miscarriage). Manager was lovely about it and said that we just had to manage perception and she'd help me and that she?d explained to the woman that I had been through a miscarriage and was now in a high risk pregnancy and that came first. How insensitive can someone be though! upset me even though it was smoothed over What annoys me the most is that I am at everything I can be at and there is a lot of things at night that I have to go to and end up knackered after but all people see is what you can?t do rant over!!

Hello Ejt hope you are having a better day today and sorry to hear people have been letting you down. Didn?t feel neglected but nice to have a special hello

MOM ? sorry to hear you are unwell hon, hope they manage to get you into the system soon. Though like Daisy find that a bit odd, my EPU works the same way as hers.

Hello Daisy how are things going with your LO? And how are you feeling now?

Hey Glimmer ? thanks for sharing I can imagine that BH can be scary, we?ve all heard about them but I?ve never really thought about how I?d feel if they did. I heard they are good because they are getting your cervix ready to dilate when the time comes.

Hello Beckle ? great to hear that all was well. Suspense must be worse now you know it ?could? be a girl, I bet you go back and check that!

Hi Uki ? sorry to hear that the Drs appointment wasn?t all positive, hope things improve. How come you are off the aspirin now? x

becklespeckle · 09/08/2007 11:28

Uki, sorry to hear you're having a bit of a rough time - I know that in the week before both boys were born I had a lot of diarrhea and was told that it is quite common to have a real good clear out ready for giving birth (pushing wouldn't be good with a full bowel...). Hopefully it is all caused by hormones and it is good that they are monitoring you but Glimmer is right, don't let them scare you. Thanks for the congrats too, hopefully the radiographer was right and it is a girl, DH is very pleased and refusing to think of the chance it may still be a boy! I have to say though that this is the first scan (and dopler) shy baby I've had - the boys were both show-offs!
Oinker, good news! Hope you have a lovely holiday, am sure the time away will do you good and I have everything crossed for your little bean.

Glimmer · 09/08/2007 11:34

Hmm interesting. LO was definitely also a show-off -- we would have needed to close our eyes not to see.... Do you think there is something to it or is it just chance?

becklespeckle · 09/08/2007 11:37

Hi MrsMc, crossed posts with you there! Sounds like you have a lovely manager, glad she is on your side but at the HR woman! I know people don't always know all the facts but you would have thought they'd be a bit more understanding just because you are pregnant. You are right though about people focussing just on what you don't/can't do. I think they take for granted the things you do do.
For me the suspense is definitely worse now although I doubt I'll have another scan. DH is more than happy with probably a girl, he says I am just being cautious because I don't like being wrong! (I thought it was a boy...)

becklespeckle · 09/08/2007 11:40

Have heard that boys are show-offs before Glimmer! DS2 posed nicely and showed us (very clearly) his bits at his 20 week scan! DS1 was a very active little thing too. This one seems to turn it's back at scans and scoots away from doplers. Radiographer said it also likes to lie on it's tummy which makes it hard to see too (and explains why most movement is very low down and my bladder constantly needs emptying!). It had it's legs crosssed at 10 week scan too!

ladylush · 09/08/2007 11:41

Hello - just popping in to see if everyone is ok. Quick glance and seems it is. Mrs McJnr - sorry to hear that HR have been nasty. I agree with you - some people only notice what you're not doing, not what you are Don't let them make you feel guilty as you and baby come first.

Beckle - exciting about a girl. I am envious as would love a little girl

my1stbaby · 09/08/2007 11:42

Hello ladies feeling ok today but a bit disorientated because of pain in inner ear affecting my balance. Not sure if it's an ear infection as never had one before. Anyway, still puking away merrily throughout the day. DH is trying to console me by saying that it's the little dragon way of telling me that it loves me , bless him! Also desperate for new trousers as putting on so much weight around the middle that can't zip up any of my trousers . I'm sure I didn't put on this much weight with the 1st baby. Might have to brave the lunchtime crowd for a spot of shopping today

MrsMc: at your horrible HR woman. Glad it got smoothed out in the end but it's not what you need when you are doing all you can isn't it? Thankfully your manager is lovely and understanding. Hopefully that would be end of all the hassles.

oinker: have a good holiday. try to relax and enjoy yourself. it would do the bean a world of good too!

MrsMcJnr · 09/08/2007 11:46

Thanks for the support Beckle my Div Manager was friend and mentor really before I came here, she manages to do it all, is a partner, works full time, has 3 girls under 13 and also does lots of social stuff so advice from her is certainly worth taking

If what you and Glimmer are saying is true ? my bean is most likely a girl then. We?ve had back turned away, scooting away and crossed legs at most of the scans.

Glimmer ? could you really not miss it at the scan? our scans are going to get tricky if we don?t want to know!

becklespeckle · 09/08/2007 11:50

Hi Ladylush, how are you? Am quite excited about the thought of a girl although after 2 DSs it will be a whole new experience!

MerlinsBeard · 09/08/2007 11:53

MrsMcJnr, don't count onit being a girl!

DS1 was very shy, was lay on his tummy for dating scan and had back to us and crossed legs for 20 weeks scan.

DS2 (completely polar opposite pregnancy) was making sure we knew he was a boy. he was wiggling his boy bits to the sonographer!

ladylush · 09/08/2007 11:59

Beckle - not to bad today thanks (it's a day by day thing I've discovered!) If it's a girl won't it be delicious to go and buy pretty pink dresses and such like

becklespeckle · 09/08/2007 12:11

Ladylush, I found it to be a day to day thing too, some good, some bad. Hope the better days are starting to outnumber the not-so-good ones for you.
Yes it will be lovely to go buy some pink stuff if baby is a girl, have 2 delicious nieces so have always made do with buying girly stuff for them - fingers crossed!

MrsMcJnr · 09/08/2007 12:28

Thanks Ladylush how are you hon? You are right, it is a day by day thing, some better than others. Wishing you lots of good ones are you trying again or still recovering? Here to help in a y way we can

My1stbaby ? sorry about the ear infection, not nice

LOL MOM perhaps we can retain the surprise after all!

I have 2 god daughters and 2 god sons as well as 2 nephews so that?s how I get my fix of buying cute clothes for either sex eledest godchild is 9 now though!

MrsMcJnr · 09/08/2007 12:30

Oinker - meant to say, read all I could about steriods last night but didn't get very far as apparently they are not prescribed for APA syndrome anymore and the bit in my book is mostly about that, sorry

ladylush · 09/08/2007 12:39

Not actively trying, nor preventing either iyswim Need periods to resume so that I know where I am in my cycle. Then I will try again.

ladylush · 09/08/2007 12:41

Mrs McJnr - what dose aspirin are you taking? I was told 81mg is recommended dose but can only find 75mg otc.

Uki · 09/08/2007 13:28

Hi again

Beckle- i've had the dreaded D for 3 half weeks, so it probably has to be some bacterial infection or irritabile bowel, would be good if just hormonal though.

I heard two funny scan stories on another site. one the lady had three girls and wanted a boy, and when the sonographer went to check the 4th little girl stuck her finger up, she even posted photo. the mum thought it was hilarious and was quite proud, and the sonogragher kept a photo herself and put it up, she'd never seen that.

The other was a mum with three boys, and had 1st scan which saw scrotum and indicated boy, second scan showed 2 testicles, but when born was a girl. the girl had put her thumbs down and scan looking up (made it look) like boy. the mother went into shock at hospital and insisted they give baby dna test as she was sure they'd messed up children.

Mrs Mc- I never know what i'm looking at on scan, until they explain it to me. So maybe you won't either.
You have to come off asprin at 36/37 weeks otherwise your blood won't clot for birth and you'll end up loosing too much.

comming off aspin though can also mean a rise in Blood Pressure, especially for me as i had high BP with DS. It's been alot better this time although now creeping up.
