Hi all, so I've only just found out I'm pregnant! 3.5 weeks so still early on but looking for others in the same stages as me. Marginally terrified, apprehensive and anxious but majorly excited for my journey with little bean!

I have mine on Friday I think. I have so many scans/appointments booked I'm loosing track

Unicorn234 · 15/01/2019 20:54

Awww I saw the baby move my tummy for the first time earlier in the bath 😊🙊 I've never caught it before so was very lovely.

Anybody had there glucose test yet? Didn't realise we have to have 2 blood tests! Hate needles! 😓😓

Helga55 · 15/01/2019 21:28

Had mine last week, was ok, but it took a couple of attempts at getting a vein Confused am usually quite needle phobic, but getting better since being pregnant and having to have them. Hanging about for a couple of hrs between the two tests was a bit of a bore tho

Buttons28 · 15/01/2019 21:51

When do you have to have the glucose test?

It's amazing when you see the movement isn't it? @Unicorn234 I could watch it all day

Unicorn234 · 15/01/2019 21:55

@Buttons28 I saw my midwife on Thursday and she said to book it sooner rather than later and I'm 27 weeks today.
My baby is a pain, I know he does strong enough movements and kicks for me to see my tummy move but everytime I stop and lift my top up he stops doing it 😂 but I caught him out in the bath earlier lol x

Unicorn234 · 15/01/2019 21:56

@Helga55 I'm not looking forward to the 2 hour wait either 😓 I've only had my bloods took once and that was my first lot of bloods when I first got pregnant so I'm not looking forward to it lol

Buttons28 · 15/01/2019 22:01

Midwife hasn't mentioned anything about a glucose test. My next appointment is at 28 weeks and as far as I'm aware I'm having my anti-D injection but nothing else

Blgb · 16/01/2019 04:57

I have my next appointment next week at 28 weeks aswell and my midwife hasn't mentioned it. I know I'm having some more bloods and need to get my whooping cough jab but that's about it. They always ask if there's any history of diabetes in the family but not said anything about a glucose test 🤷‍♀️

Unicorn234 · 16/01/2019 05:18

@Buttons28 @Blgb I don't think everyone has to have it.. I've got to because my bmi is over 30 so she's recommended me to have the test

Hopeislost · 16/01/2019 18:09

There are different glucose tests. Everyone at my hospital has the glucose challenge test (GCT). You drink a sugary drink then have bloods after 1 hour.

If you are obese, had GD before, or failed the GCT, you have the glucose tolerance test (GTT). For this you have to fast the night before, have bloods taken before, 1 hour after and 2 hours after drinking the sugary drink.

Springmummy19 · 17/01/2019 09:40

Just posted this in another thread.

As mentioned by PP, GTT isn't for everyone, I think it is mainly if you have had diabetes previously, if there is a history of it in your family or what your ethnic background is.

I had mine 2 weeks ago and was diagnosed last week (I'm 26+4 now ) and as much as I have been monitoring my food intake, making sure I exercise regularly and I've been following the midwifes notes like a bible, mine just doesn't seem to be anywhere close to the what it should be.

I saw the midwife again yesterday and basically have been told that I'll be referred to a consultant tomorrow and if by tomorrows appointment, it hasn't changed I'll most likely be put on metformin.

Prior to falling pregnant I was on metformin to help balance out my hormones and to help me conceive. Metformin is usually taken by people with diabetes so she isnt sure if this is causing a spike. I was fine when I took it before so if it helps me control my sugar then I'm happy to take it. At the end of the day if you are doing everything you can, there is nothing more you can do. I'm very fortunate that my diabetes midwife is so supportive and doesn't make me feel like a failure.

51Sunflower · 18/01/2019 18:00

Hey folks, just catching up on the thread. I had a GTT at 12 weeks due to previous gestational diabetes. I've been on insulin ever since and am now 25+4 and very well. I've been with the endocrinologist team for check ups every two weeks. It can just be the surge in pregnancy hormones that mean you get it. Insulin is proven safe in pregnancy too which is fab. As you were saying, we all do what we need to do to have a healthy baby 👶

Unicorn234 · 19/01/2019 20:47

Hey guys hope your all well. Got an appointment filled couple of weeks.. Whooping cough, 28 week blood test, anti d injection, midwife and gtt. Not looking forward to them lol.
However baby boy is constantly kicking and rolling now and he's always poking something out of my belly. Felt it the other day and it's very freaky 😂🙈

MigMog · 20/01/2019 17:43

Minus the GTT I've a few days of bloods, whooping cough and anti d too. Going to feel like a pin cushion.

Just to get the lot I decided id book a dentist appointment too. Why not have a full mot.

Unicorn234 · 20/01/2019 19:49

@MigMog oh tell me about it.. Really looking forward to it all.. NOT! lol joys of pregnancy hey xx

Springmummy19 · 21/01/2019 09:53

I have my whooping cough on Wednesday.

I've been on metforming since Thursday to control my sugars and they have gone down but I have had a 2 occasions where they have been too high, not sure if they will put me on the insulin or let me monitor it a bit more, my sicken is back as well which doesn't hep. The consultant last week told me I'll definitely be induced so baby will be arriving earlier than the original date of 21st April.

Antone else's started nesting? DH is starting to drive me a bit loopy. He wants to redecorate a few rooms and make the bedroom more 'homely' (not sure what can make it more homely compared to a cot with a baby in it!) and he is being going on an on about paint colors and decor and blah blah

51Sunflower · 21/01/2019 11:48

@Springmummy19 I was on Metformin to begin with but it made me vomit so much I demanded to go on insulin(stroppy older mum and a nurse by trade Smile) I've been so much better on it and despite certain risk factors that the team are telling me I am determined to not be induced or have a c section!!

Springmummy19 · 21/01/2019 11:53

@51Sunflower I you tubes videos of the insulin and I just know I wont ever be able to inject myself or ask anyone else to do it. I struggle with the prick test to check my sugar. :-(

How often do you have to take the insulin? if they tell me its what I need to do in order to get it to where it should be then I guess I will have to but I really really don't want to do it. I was on metformin back in March last year to help balance out my hormones and help us conceive. I stopped taking it in September once I got to 12 weeks so they think this might also be a trigger in it going up and that why they put me back on it.

I 100000% do not want a C section

51Sunflower · 21/01/2019 11:58

@Springmummy19 I am currently injecting twice a day and honestly it is less uncomfortable than the finger prick tests. The needle is super fine and tiny. There is also not a lot of research about metformin use in pregnancy and it is not actually licenced for that use where as insulin does not cross the placenta. It's worth asking the endocrinologist when you see them next?

Springmummy19 · 21/01/2019 12:03

Well I have to call the diabetes consultant tomorrow and provide my sugar reading for the past few days, they will then determine if I stay on the metformin or go onto the insulin. As much as I might have my fears, ultimately I have to do what is best for the baby and what will help make labour and delivery as straightforward as possible so lets see what they say

Blgb · 22/01/2019 13:38

Been to see consultant today and got myself discharged from the clinic. Thought yay winner! Then get told baby's measurements don't match up and to come back in a couple of hours for a growth scan! Pregnancy is nothing but worry!
Anyone else has a growth scan?

Springmummy19 · 22/01/2019 13:44

I have one next Friday. Gd means they are monitoring EVERYTHING and I can understand where you are coming from, I dread every hospital visit.

ChaosMoon · 29/01/2019 10:51

Oh my gosh, I've missed so much! How did the growth scans go @Blgb and @Springmummy19?

Question for you all - has anyone tried a maternity support belt for back pain? I've been told it might help, but there are so many out there! I was about to take a punt on one and read a review saying it wasn't that comfortable to sit in. Which is no good as I have the biggest problem when sitting at a desk for more than half an hour at a time.

Springmummy19 · 29/01/2019 10:56

Hi @ChaosMoon, It went okay, they said babys measurements are fine. I have my 28 weeks scan on Friday along with a combined clinic appointment for my GD, my sugar levels are steady so I wont be put on the insulin it seems which I am happy about.
I've not used a belt but I did recently but the BIG maternity pillow which has been incredible to sleep in, It's like I'm in a cocoon and the support is for my belly but my back too
