I am currently 36+4 weeks. Went to bed feeling like i was going to have diarrhoea but nothing UNTIL this morning. I've woken up with really bad diarrhoea and cannot leave the bathroom at all. Is there anything i can take like Imodium? Thanks

Morning,
Not sure what you could take but call NHS direct if it is really bad.
Not wanting to panic you at all, but I got this when labour was imminent.

SamanthaH92 · 30/06/2018 06:39

@hopingforhappiness i did think that but praying it isn't. Have a c section booked at 39 weeks! I'm feeling shakey now. Managed to leave the bathroom but diarrhoea pains still going so having to run back again 😕

I wouldn't take Imodium. It's coming out for a reason! You could just have a stomach bug or something. Or food poisoning.

Agree to keep an eye though as it could be a pre baby clear out! 36 weeks isn't that early, so don't panic if baby wants to make an early apparence!

SamanthaH92 · 30/06/2018 07:13

@babybrainusedtobesmart its bloody awful. The diarrohea cramps are so bad. Baby feels as if she is lower than she was. SPD has suddenly got worse making it hard to walk. Climbing up and down the stars like a mad women

I'd give your maternity ward or midwife a call, last thing you want is an emergency c section. I've always been advised not to take Imodium or stuff like that in pregnancy.
How you feeling now OP?

lifeisabeachsometimes · 30/06/2018 07:23

Call your midwife for advice. If you aren't ill then you may be going into labour, and if you are ill you definitely need advice.

Frankier88 · 30/06/2018 07:25

My first thought... diarrhoea cramps could be contractions?
Good luck OP!

SamanthaH92 · 30/06/2018 07:32

Just managed to leave the bathroom. I'm a wimp with pain and its almost had me in tears the cramps. I don't think they are contractions but DD1 was a planned c section so can't compare. She feels very low down and its fairly uncomfortable. The cramps go away untill i need to go again and then they come back full force and I'm running to the loo. Not feeling brilliant thats for sure xx

Make sure you drink lots of water so you don't get dehydrated. I think you should keep a note of the amount of time between the cramps. It may just be a bug but it might be early labour!

Choccywokkiedoo · 30/06/2018 07:34

@SamanthaH92

Give the ward a call sweetie!!!

GlitteryFluff · 30/06/2018 07:42

Yes call the ward!

hopingforhappiness · 30/06/2018 07:59

What does your midwife say?
Are the cramps coming at regular intervals?

MairzyDoats · 30/06/2018 08:02

BTW, bad diarrhoea cramps is the closest thing I could describe my contractions to. Call your midwife pronto.

EmmaJR1 · 30/06/2018 08:16

@SamanthaH92 Hi, I had diarrhoea in pregnancy and went to gp. There's nothing over the counter you can take but the gp can prescribe codeine which stops it. I took 2 tablets 6 hrs apart and it stopped!

SamanthaH92 · 30/06/2018 08:16

Not managed to ring them yet. I don't have my actual midwives number do i ring PAU or L&D? My two year old woke up so had to see to her. Managed to stay off the loo since the last post and now i am back on it with more diarrhoea. Don't think they are contractions because only getting them when i really need the loo. I'm praying its something i have eaten but i don't know what!

I had a D&V bug when I was 41 weeks pregnant with number 3 that DC1 gave me (thanks for that Grin) and it was the worst I have ever felt in my life. You have my sympathy.

hopingforhappiness · 30/06/2018 08:31

There should be a contact number in the folder/notes you take along to your midwife appointments.
I had to contact the labour ward; but that was quite a while ago.

SamanthaH92 · 30/06/2018 08:33

@potteringalong oh thats awful. Luckily its not coming out of both ends. I'm feeling so weak and tired now i just want to go back to bed. Luckily OH is now up and dealing with the little one. I haven't had d&v for years. I was at the doctors yesterday so maybe somebody there had it and I've caught a bug. Who knows. I defiently don't think i am having contractions though. I just hope it doesn't go on much longer x

@hopingforhappiness the only numbers in my notes is L&D and PAU. I did tell the PAU on thursday i don't have midwives number and they said its common now not too and that was that x

Pastaagain78 · 30/06/2018 08:36

With DS1 I had cramps with diarrhoea. I would get a cramp, rush to the loo, have an upset tummy. Repeat. I thought I had food poisoning or a tummy bug. DS was born 8 hours later.
Defiantly phone the labour ward for advice.

adviceonthepox · 30/06/2018 08:45

I've always had this is on the day leading up to labour. It's the bodies way of having a clear out the midwife told me on my 3rd. Drink as much as you can and if you feel hungry eat.

hopingforhappiness · 30/06/2018 09:23

If you are worried call L&D, if that's wrong they will give you an alternative contact number.
If diarrhoea is really bad you might need checking over anyway,

RayM · 30/06/2018 10:05

This was one of the first signs I was going into labour too. I was also being sick. I thought it was food poisoning, totally in denial I guess! Baby girl was born 5 hours later Smile .

SamanthaH92 · 30/06/2018 11:01

Have rang PAU, they don't want me to go in. Said its probably just a bug. I explained i was worried about the start of things as I'm booked in for a c section at 39 weeks. She was adament i did not need to go in and she was confident it would only be a bug 🙄 still got diarrhea now x
