VV - just spotted your good news and wanted to say congratulations! Thanks again for your support on my mc thread. I am taking further heart from your good news and, with any luck, I'll be here too in a few months time.

VictorVictoria · 24/05/2007 14:23

Bearsmom thank you. I am a bit shellshocked about the whole thing and subconsciously am almost assuming something will go wrong. But I have to remain positive as do you!

MrsMcJnr · 24/05/2007 14:30

Many congratulations VictorVictoria ? I hope this one is a really strong healthy one! I am really sorry about the MCs and I can totally understand how you feel about the scans. I had to have one last week at 5+2 because they had to know it wasn?t an ectopic to prescribe meds. Of course, it was too early for a HB and I feel like I am in the limbo I was in last time, waiting to be re-scanned to see a HB. It?s nerve wracking especially as last time it did not go well.

Hope DS is ok MumpBump and that you enjoy your long weekend ? I?m working on Monday!

Mumpbump · 24/05/2007 14:42

That's crappy, MrsMcJnr! BTW, assuming that all goes well with this lo, when are you due?

ejt1764 · 24/05/2007 15:03

Just a quick hello before I dash off to physio ...

glimmer - so so so glad you heard the beartbeat - hearning it makes it HUGE difference (well, to me, anyway!) Glad you are feeling a litle happier - feel free to rant if you need to!

VictorVictoria - hi and welcome! Here's to a long, uneventful and boring stay on this thread for you. The ladies here have been an absolute Godsend as far as I'm concerned - they helped me enormously through the first few scary weeks. Feel free to share the niggles!

karlou · 24/05/2007 15:25

Hi all. I'm new to this thread, although I have posted a few times in other threads, especially the due Oct 2007 one.
Just thought I'd tell you a little bit about my pregnancy history. After getting married in 1995 my dh and I started trying for a baby - I first conceived in the summer of 1996. All seemed to be fine and we had the 12 dating scan and saw the heartbeat. At 14 weeks I saw the m/w who couldn't hear the heart but told me not to worry as it wasn't always easy at this stage. At 19 weeks I had some very light brownish bleeding and saw my GP. She said it was probably nothing but sent me for a scan anyway. It turned out the baby had died at 19 weeks and I'd had a missed m/c.
A few months later I was pregnant again and obviously worried. I got past the 12 week magic date and was due my scan at 13 weeks when I started bleeding heavily with cramping. This time the baby had apparently died at 8 weeks.
We then didn't manage to conceive until July 1998. At 5 weeks I had a bleed but was also vomiting and couldn't even keep fluids down. I was sent to hospital to go on a drip and they scanned me. I was told the baby was alive but I might still lose it. However, this time we were lucky and in March 1999 our beautiful daughter Lorna was born.
Our second daughter Connie was born in 2002 without any dramas and for a while we were happy as a family of 4 but I always knew I wanted one more.
Last year I was delighted to find out I was pg again and naively believed everything would be ok. Sadly this time I had an early m/c at 7 weeks.
We kept ttc and had almost given up until I finally found out I was pregnant again at the end of February. Since then I've not really relaxed and have been counting off the important dates. But I'm over 17 weeks now and can feel the baby moving so fingers crossed.....
My heartfelt best wishes go to anyone else pregnant after miscarriage. I am proof that it works out in the end but I know how hard it is and how the pregnancy isn't perhaps as enjoyable as it should be.

MrsMcJnr · 24/05/2007 15:27

Mumpbump ? 15/1 according to dates 17/1 according to TCOYF software. I think it?ll probably be the later, I was measuring 5+2 on Monday instead of 5+6.

Don?t want to get too ahead of myself but am wondering how on earth I am going to afford mat clothes and wonder whether I should start getting some basics now. Is that wise and what do I really need? I have 3 very uncomfy mat bras from last time.

Mumpbump · 24/05/2007 15:56

Hello Karlou!!

MrsMcJnr - maternity business wear is horrendously expensive although Next do a reasonably priced suit. I would wait for a bit because, apart from anything else, you don't know when you will need it. Different bumps grow at different rates. I bought a whole load of summer stuff last time and wasn't big enough to wear maternity clothes until October, so completely wasted the money! Mind you, they will do for this pg so that's not too bad.

Glimmer - can you negotiate with the health insurance company on the basis that an independent midwife is a lot cheaper for them than private antenatal treatment? Might be worth at least asking - they can only say no!

Good luck at the physio, EJT.

Furrymummy · 24/05/2007 15:59

I got some comfy maternity bras from M&S, pack of 2 for £20, cotton and nice and comfy.
They wash reaslly well.
Howabout looking on ebay? I've bought some maternity clothes, jeans, a couple of dresses, bit too big atm but won't be long before I'll be getting in them!

VV - welcome and sending you lots of positive vibes!

Hello Mumpbump, how's your mum doing?

Karlou - thanks for you lovely post, hope your prg continues to go well

Hi furrymummy. She's apparently doing very well. Seems pretty much untouched by the chemo so far, although has only had two treatments. Sorry to hear your grandmother has leukaemia. How old is she? I believe it is all much slower in older people and think that is probably helping with my 71 year old mother's condition.

Mumpbump · 24/05/2007 16:07

MrsMcJnr - I fully agree with firststar re: H&M. They also do some nice bf tops. And I think the slouch jeans which Next do are so low-slung on the hips that they will do for maternity or normal wear. They certainly seem to appear in both parts of their catalogue.

Welcome Karlou sorry I crossed with you! I am so sorry about your tragic history I am so glad that things are going well and hope your 3rd babe arrives safe and sound Ignore me if it brings it all back but were you investigated and were you given any reasons for all those late MCs?

Mumpbump ? very good point, thank you! I was thinking of trying to get a winter coat in the sales though as I know I?ll be standing on the platform for a train in all weather in Nov & Dec and by then, I doubt my current coat will fit.

FurryMummy ? Ebay?s a good call!

Thanks Firsty lots of great info.

hi all, hard to keep up with you all after a few days off, you are all so busy and dynamic.

got my date for 12 week scan next week which is great news.

has anyone had low abdominal aches and pains with a stabbing feeling just below their hips? i think it is what is waking me up loads in the night, it is not crampy though. it is driving me mad not sleeping enough; i cannot remember this at all with the other pregs. thanks again and love to all

hotchocX

MrsMcJnr · 24/05/2007 16:55

guess I'll be larger than I ever could have imagined here's hoping at this stage anyway.

I made a real mess of my shot this morning I have a deep purple bruise across my tummy

karlou · 24/05/2007 16:58

Thanks for the welcomes. My m/cs were never investigated Mrs McJnr - apparently although I never discovered the babies were still classed as dying early in pregnancy - I just didn't know till later. And as the 3 were consecutive I wasn't investigated for that reason either.

On the clothes front - I've just had a splurge in Primark for tunic tops. They're so much cheaper than actual maternity wear - so I could buy more!

Mumpbump · 24/05/2007 16:59

Hotchoc - I had something similar a few weeks ago and it was quite worrying at the time, but it went away and hasn't come back since. I still get general twinges though...

hotchoc · 24/05/2007 17:05

how far on are you now mumpbump? thanks for the info. hotchoc

Mumpbump · 24/05/2007 17:07

I'm 21 weeks now, but had the painful feelings/cramps around 15 weeks, I think. How far are you?

hotchoc · 24/05/2007 18:29

11 weeks now, phew!

plummymummy · 24/05/2007 21:37

Karlou so sad to hear of your m/cs. How distressing. Delighted that you have two lovely daughters and agree with others that baby moving is a great sign that your next lo will be healthy. Welcome to thread

MrsMcJnr · 25/05/2007 11:10

Great news Hot Choc ? fingers crossed that the scan goes really well! no experience of those pains but I?ve not got as far as you before hope they are nothing to worry about!

Karlou ? must be hard not knowing why thanks for the clothes tips!

Furrymummy · 25/05/2007 12:48

Hello Hotchoc! Hope you are well, how is your mum? I get those abdominal twinges quite regularly, sometimes feels like a strained muscle sometimes it feels like something poking me hard in the tummy! I think it's just your insides rearranging themselves!

Mumpbump - Abuela is 69, so yes you could be right! Glad to hear your mum is doing okay.

MrsMc - those tunic and empire line tops are great, really good for floating over the bump, my friend has got some and she looks fab in them (she's 23 weeks). And you can pick them up dirt cheap at Primark, or Asda or Tesco. My friend's quite lucky, her sister had a baby just over a year ago and has given her a stack of maternity wear.

Today am feeling like sh!t. Ms is back with a vengeance (it stayed away for most of my holiday!) and have had a rotten headache since yesterday night. Going to have lunch in a bit and hope I feel better.
