I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

hotchocolate Glad you are getting fluids. In your confused state from dehydration, remember to ask about the restless legs just in case!
Foodylicious Waves. Good advice.

Ooh I had forgotten about the restless legs lucinda. I will try and remember to ask before I leave. I’ve just had a stemetil injection which I’m praying will kick in quickly as I feel so so sick. Still waiting for my fluids as they need a doctor to put a canula in for me.

Anatidae · 10/03/2018 19:46

Toddler has been poorly this week and I’ve had to do more physically than I have been doing (so much goddamn snow! I’m needing to dig my way out of the house every time I leave..)

I’ve had the bright green vom too hotchoc I assumed it was bile :( I hope they can sort you out!

I feel like I’ve really overdone it. At the start of the week I felt the tide was turning a bit but the exertion has floored me. I’m only 16 weeks and I have a huge bump and I feel like a puffy waddling mess.

nailsathome · 10/03/2018 20:28

Hotchoc I hope you feel better after the injection and fluids. You really are having a rough time of it.

hotchocolate86 · 10/03/2018 21:07

I’m on the ward now. The stwmotil has helped a little but I’m about to have some cyclizine. That makes me a bit woozy through the iv so not my favourite but hopefully it eases the sickness. I’ve got my drip up now. I feel so exhausted and fed up and low.

hotchocolate86 · 10/03/2018 21:08

I hope you feel better soon ana.

Anatidae · 10/03/2018 21:10

It’s absolutely shit isn’t it hotchoc?

Big hug. Flowers hang on in there

hotchocolate86 · 10/03/2018 21:42

It’s really awful ana. Roll on October. I do feel bad for complaining. Some people on here have been ill for so long and I am still not quite 10 weeks so only about four weeks of the sickness so far.

Mustang27 · 11/03/2018 03:08

Ana I was massive second time around as well it was shit I honestly don't know how you are doing it with the weather you have. I'd suggest a onsie and not leaving the house at all but onsies are not remotely practical with hg vom session especially if like me and others you often pee whilst retching lol. Also not leaving the house with a toddler is not an option unless you slowly want to corrode your clearly very sharp mind and have all your property destroyed by a tiny person suffering from cabin fever, so yeah my advice is shit but you have my full sympathy. Hope your wee one feels better soon.

Hey Oklahoma hope both your babies are doing well and they have settled into a nice wee routine now. Hope you haven't had as many teething problems as I have trying to get my toddler on board lol.

Hotchocolate please don't apologise for complaining ever. Everyone on here is suffering or has suffered and realise that you need somewhere to vent. I really hope cyclizine has helped and woozy isn't great but if it makes you sleep just go with it, the rest and fluids will help even if it's brief.

Oklahoma · 11/03/2018 06:56

Hi Mustang is he not laying ball then? Oklette was pretty good at first then had a horrendous month or so but it seems to have calmed down again now.

hotchocolate86 · 11/03/2018 06:59

Thanks mustang I am definitely feeling a bit better for being in here. I’m a bit disappointed to find my ketones are still 2+ this morning though as I was hoping they’d have reduced or gone.

Boredoftryingusernames · 11/03/2018 08:39

Hotchocolate glad you feel better for being in and getting treatment.
I understand you feel frustrated by the lack of improvement in the ketones, have you eaten anything yet? Until you do you will still be breaking down fat and producing ketones unfortunately, as much as the drop helps with the dehydration element.
The whole ketone thing is really complex, there are two types and only one is detected by the urine strips. When you are getting better the other type (undetectable) is converted to the ones that are detected -so you look like they are not improving, or have even increased, despite the fact you are actually getting better.....sorry if that makes no sense! There is also a lag between what is happening in the blood and in the urine. Hope this is the case for you and they start decreasing through the day.
Have you discussed with them your thyroid issues/had levels tested recently? I think uncontrolled thyroid issues can contribute to becoming ketotic too.
Hope you continue to feel better and get home soon - sending a hug, you are really going through it. To think you weren't sure you were I'll enough to be on the forum at one point?!

hotchocolate86 · 11/03/2018 08:48

Hi bored. That’s a good point about food. I’ve just eaten some cornflakes and a few rice crispies so hopefully they stay down and help with my ketones. I haven’t mentioned my thyroid. It hadn’t crossed my mind to be honest but if it can lead to ketone issues then I guess I should do. I had about a week of thinking I wasn’t ill enough yet and then at about 6 weeks it all kicked in and I think I’ve definitely qualified since then! I’m 10 weeks tomorrow so praying for an improvement and hopefully no more hospitalisation after this. Luckily I have managed to maintain my weight reasonably well. I have lost half a stone so far this pregnancy and in my last pregnancy I had lost a stone by this point. I really think we must all be mad putting ourselves through it multiple times. How are you feeling now anyway bored?

Boredoftryingusernames · 11/03/2018 09:53

Gosh well done on the weight, considering how sick you have been 'only' losing half a stone is good going. Glad you have Fe well enough to have some breakfast. Really hope you have reached the peak and things get better now.
I wasn't sick again yesterday but was completely floored again so pretty much stayed in bed. Feeling really sick this morning but not too bad. Just so frustrating, was going to try going back to work this week, but doing more last week has really set me back so not sure it's worth it. Last pregnancy had bad nausea and some vomiting until 20 weeks but not HG, found working helped take mind off things, just can't push through it this time in the same way.
Hope you get home soon to enjoy some of Mother's Day!

Boredoftryingusernames · 11/03/2018 09:56

Mustang your comment about a onsie not being very practical made me laugh, my vomiting relapse on Friday definitely made me hate my bladder!

hotchocolate86 · 11/03/2018 12:27

Well I am home now. I’m definitely feeling a fair bit better now although very tired. I’m not sure how when I slept all night.
I’m glad you are feeling a bit brighter bored. It doesn’t really sound like you should be back at work yet though.

Anatidae · 11/03/2018 12:35

I do feel bad for complaining.

You’ve been really really ill! You’re allowed to complain!
I think this is a big issue for all of us - especially when you’ve got older kids you tend to just drag yourself out of bed and try and get on with it. I’m trying, but I’m not OK at all. Anything more than mild physical effort is wiping me out and making me feel so bad. But if you saw me sitting on the phone on the sofa maybe you’d think oh well she looks oK. I often think it’s a shame you can’t make people feel how bad you feel for an hour or so. Maybe we should be complaining more, not less?

Happy mother’s day to all Flowers

hotchocolate86 · 11/03/2018 13:43

It’s kind of a shame you can’t share the load. Not that I’d seriously want anyone else to feel this bad but I’d so like a day off from time to time.

nailsathome · 11/03/2018 16:10

I thought I was getting better and even picked a dinner I wanted cooked for me this evening. Queue throwing up and back in bed this afternoon.

Hotchoc I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. Are you trying new meds again or sticking with what you have? Keep on moaning as much as you like. I find that doing it a bit on here helps to make sure I don't do too much of it at home! My husband keeps saying he wishes he could take the suffering from me even just for a day. I wish he could too!

I have no idea how you ladies who have had multiple hg pregnancies go through it again!

Foodylicious · 11/03/2018 16:17

So putting one of our blue step stools in the bath was a bit of a revelation shower wise today. Still a bit of wretching and I have to make myself do everything deliberately slowly, but was manageable.

Had to get OH to empty and clean the fridge earlier as I was sure there was something in there that was off.
Nope, everything was fine. I just can't stand the smell of the fridge.

Foodylicious · 11/03/2018 16:23

Food cravings and aversion are all over the place.
I made it through all week at work then spent most of yesterday in bed.
Today I feel lots better generally it the waves of nausea and woosiness have been really strong.

hotchoc hope you can keep some food down

nails that sounds shitty. Hope tomorrow is better

bored my bladder is a nightmare at the mo too

ana how you doing today?
You too lucinda?? You Ok?

hotchocolate86 · 11/03/2018 16:34

I’m still on the same meds nails. They do seem to help and I’m a bit scared to mess with them.

How many weeks are you foody?

Foodylicious · 11/03/2018 16:39

Just over 10 weeks now hotchoc
Had another sneaky scan last week

hotchocolate86 · 11/03/2018 16:41

Oh I am 10 weeks tomorrow. I was hoping for a scan this time but no such luck. My 12 week scan is 2 weeks tomorrow though. Hopefully by then I’ll be feeling better.
