So baby has decided to give me a heart attack last couple of days, couldn't feel movements at all got checked over last night and baby's heart beat was fine but still no movements and they asked me to come back today. Again last night and this morning nothing, now sitting in the waiting room waiting to be seen and have observations and baby has to decided to wake up and let me know they are alive, how typical! Obviously happy to feel baby though as been going crazy last couple of days! 9 weeks to go!

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 01/02/2018 11:10

@Pumpkinma the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago - baby went from 24hr Kung-Fu practice to absolutely nothing. Did the "eat something sweet, drink a cold class of water" thing and lay on my side for an hour, nothing.

Called the maternity assessment unit and they told me to come up and get checked out - I nearly cried the whole way. Guess the rapid journey in a diesel car over some potholed roads did the trick, because after checking in and sitting in the waiting room for about 5 or 10 mins, the all-day baby party restarted!

I was so embarrassed, but still really glad I went there even if just for the reassurance and they were really nice about it too, told me not to hesitate coming back if I got reduced movement again.

Pumpkinma · 01/02/2018 11:14

@ICantThinkOfAGoodOne I really think they know what they are doing and are doing it on purpose to test us 😂 still waiting to be seen it's crazy in here today!

DaisyLand · 01/02/2018 11:42

@Pumpkinma hope everything goes ok, they're really annoying! mine likes to move loads when in the scans and so,, doesnt like to be scanned so pushes the machines out :(

Dont worry as they know these things happen, i have been twice this week so they know me by now

I only hope it's a sign that our babies will be quiet and dont cry loads when we're trying to sleep haha

In other news, i have won a competition! going to see mini mee next week in a 4D scan :D , i'm not too keen on them but found an offer, booked it, then entered a competition for one free and i've won :)

@AnnaMadden bet you've seen loads of differences from your 1st baby to the one now, every time i tell my boss things you can do (workshops, scans, purchases) and his youngest is around 11 he normally looks at me like What are you talking me about haha BTW i got my hanna wrap the other day, i need a class of how to wear it now :D

Weightwise i'm 30w and just put over a stone,

@Pumpkinma and @ICantThinkOfAGoodOne That happened to me too last week, I was just about to leave for the hospital when he started moving again. Then at my checkup on Tuesday the doctor said his HB was too fast (180) which gave me another heart attack but after 15 mins' rest it went back to normal. Saw baby casually yawning away on the 4D scan yesterday so he's obviously not worried about all the stress he's given me!

BTW If anyone is interested, the Hana Bamboo is (or at least was) £25 brand new on Amazon when I checked last week.

AnnaMadden · 01/02/2018 12:09

@DaisyLand omg yes...it's literally like I'm having my first baby as things have changed so much!

If activity levels now are an indicator of what they'll be like when born...I'm in trouble! My peanut hardly sleeps at all! 😣

Try this

I found it really helpful and now I'm a pro...well without the baby...just the wrapping part lol. Just remember as a Hana is a two way stretch you'll need to pull it a bit tighter when wrapping to prevent sagging

dkb15164 · 01/02/2018 16:36

@Bez9087 gosh you poor soul, they're giving me my prescription tomorrow but I've been told it will probably be 3 times a day before food. Always thought my diet to be quiet healthy and eat a fair amount of meat so was a bit of a shock but guess it can happen to anyone. @DaisyLand @twiddlerthefidget @AnnaMadden glad to know the age thing won't be a problem, I've never had a problem getting along with older women before it's just in case they found me immature but I guess the focus really is on the babies anyway.
I've had a panicky day of realising I totally forgot to book antenatal classes - my midwife told me to call before 26 weeks but with my baby brain I totally blanked and forgot - I'm nearly 30 weeks now, do you think they'll have space for me? Been warned they fill up quickly. A lot of people don't go to them at all, it just would have been nice to be a bit more prepared. Tried ringing the department today but got put to voicemail twice (it was within their opening hours too which seemed strange). Has anybody else started antenatal classes or are they giving them a miss?
@HarryHarry I feel like I've put a bit of excess weight as even in maternity clothes I've gone up 2 sizes but I don't own scales so I've never kept track of my weight. I have definitely put on weight on my chest however as this time last year I was fitting into a perky A cup bikini for the hols freaking out that my stomach stuck out more than my boobs; I got measured for a maternity bra at Christmas to find I had two dangling Ds. It's not a lot compared to a lot of women but it's enough that I'm actually aware of this strange mysterious thing called "cleavage" showing when I bend over. It's a whole new world. Hopefully all the weight will shed away for both of us after birth (although I'm defo keeping the boobs for a bit longer).

amysaurus87 · 01/02/2018 16:56

Hi all! Can't believe it's February already! I stop working in about 6weeks! Which is terrifying. I feel like I stop have loads to do and loads to buy as well!

Baby has got loads more active recently, not so much kicking more just wiggling and rolling now which is funny to watch as I can see my stomach moving now!

Weight isn't being monitored but I go to slimming world and I've put on 1stone 5lb since I found out, which I'm happy about!

emvy · 01/02/2018 20:39

Those naughty bubbas giving you all scares! It’s only happened for me at 26 weeks but even then I was freaking out and of course felt silly when he started partying on the drive in. It’s reassuring to know that it’s always taken seriously though.

Finally it’s february! Is it suddenly dragging for everyone? It feels like we’re finally on the home stretch which is making me feel SO impatient. I’ve never been good at waiting for things and I so desperately want April to hurry up and arrive! 10 weeks to go for me and still have loads to buy and organise.

Not sure how weight is going to be honest. I’d put on half a stone by 20 weeks but haven’t weighed myself since then. My underwear is starting to feel a little tight around my hips but other than that clothes seem ok. I’ve also always had tiny boobs as well, dkb and although they’ve definitely grown during pregnancy, I’ve not been measured yet but they’re definitely not a d. I was really hoping I might get some decent boobs but no such luck! 😂

Teeeee · 02/02/2018 01:05

Hello all!! I havent been on in a while.. hope everyone is doing well? I'm on week 28 now and having trouble sleeping.. as is the case this eve. Not hood with early start! Anyone else having trouble? My mind keeps flitting from one thing to another and baby seems to be awake having a wiggle with me.

I'm currently fixated on baby names.. our friends just gave birth and named their son our fave name and its driving me crazy!!!

Pumpkinma · 02/02/2018 10:47

@DaisyLand Thanks! Baby got monitored yesterday and heartbeat was fine but no accelerations and very few movements they didn't seem too concerned but was kept on the monitor for quite a while. And they have booked me back in today for a growth scan and more observations on my way now. Fingers crossed 🤞

AnnaMadden · 02/02/2018 11:06

@Pumpkinma let us know how you get on...I'm absolutely sure it'll be fine...naughty baby making mummy worry!

Bez9087 · 02/02/2018 11:18

Good luck @pumpkinma let us know how everything goes 🤞🏻
Just got home from physio appointment been given crutches and support tube to help with my hips and said that my right side is considerably weaker than my left (could have told her that) she has poked and prodded and now in agony 😩 so hot water bottle on my aching back and one of the codeine the drs gave me the other day to use sparingly. Paracetamol just doesn’t touch the sides anymore but I don’t like taking the codeine as can pass over to baby but the obstetrician the other day said only minimal amounts and if I’m in agony take it. It’s so hard isn’t it knowing what to do for the best.

AnnaMadden · 02/02/2018 11:58

@Bez9087 have they given you a giant piece of tubigrip or is it a proper support brace?

Pumpkinma · 02/02/2018 13:23

Had my growth scan and baby is measuring big - off the charts big. Baby currently weighs 4lb 15 and I'm just coming up to 31 weeks. Have been booked in for another GTG had one in December and results came back fine but apparently it can occur at any point during pregnancy. They even mentioned that I may have to be induced early!

Now I've worked myself into a panic about baby and if we are both going to be okay and how hard birth is going to be now 😥

I've honestly had such a horrible pregnancy and now baby is very big feel like such a failure and that I'm doing things wrong.

AnnaMadden · 02/02/2018 13:43

@Pumpkinma you're doing absolutely nothing wrong! You are growing a perfect human being. No labour is easy whether you're having a 6lb baby or a 10lb baby...that's why it's called labour. But it's what our bodies are made for!...our bodies are amazing and it will get you through the birth however big your baby is. The midwives will be keeping an eye on you now and there's no way they would put you or your baby in danger. Being induced will be a last resort if your baby gets to a certain size to make sure you are both completely safe. Look on the bright side...if you do get induced, you'll have cuddles with your squishy sooner than you expected! Try not to worry...I know it's easier said than done...try to enjoy the last few weeks and start looking forward to being an amazing mummy 💖

HarryHarry · 02/02/2018 16:05

@Pumpkinma I don't know much about pregnancy in general - what's normal and what isn't - so I can't offer any useful advice but I do know that you haven't done anything wrong! Have you listened to any hypnobirthing sessions? It might help you manage your anxiety about the birth - it seems to be working for me and I only started it 2 days ago.

@Bez Sorry to hear you're in so much pain, I really hope the crutches are helping.

Pumpkinma · 02/02/2018 16:29

@AnnaMadden and @HarryHarry thank you both! I'm just feeling a little sorry for myself. Things may be fine yet.

I have read a hypnobirth book and was planning on a hypno-birth, nice and natural. The one thing I was adamant I did not want was an induced labour. Now it looks likely.

Only yesterday while I was having observations the woman next to me had the doctor in talking to her explaining all the possible complications of vaginal birth to a bigger baby, longer labour, increased chance of distress to baby, of baby getting stuck, of shoulder dysplasia, of baby being starved of oxygen and emergency C section - those curtains are very thin and doctor was talking quite loud couldn't help but listen as she was explaining. Now I'm fretting about all of those things and my mind won't stop.

I need to get a grip and just wait and see what the results will be over the next couple of weeks but mind is in overdrive. If baby stays on the big side am looking at 9-10lbs now I may ask for a C section the thought of baby being distressed or getting stuck and having to break its little shoulder or use forceps makes me feel sick 😥

Ninjamilo · 02/02/2018 16:43

@pumpkinma try not to worry, I know how difficult it is though, you really don't have to be induced if you don't want to.

I had my glucose results back today and they're high at 8.7 so I need to be referred for diabetes. Although no appointments for 2 weeks....useful!

Trying not to think about it too much though - just need to try and keep my levels down so I can still have my home birth 😊

I'm not due until the end of April and had all good intentions of working right up until my due date - although now I've just had enough and am tempted to take holiday so I can just switch off in a few weeks time!

amysaurus87 · 02/02/2018 17:35

@Pumpkinma i was in a similar place to you a few weeks ago. Baby is measuring big, though not of the chart, and I too felt like I was failing. The consultant I saw terrified me talking about induction and c-sections and talking about baby being breech again resulting in c-section.

Spoke to my SIL (she's a midwife) and my actual midwife who assured me I was not to blame, some babies are just big, and that it would be monitored through the growth scans I have booked in. My midwife also had a word with the consultant midwife to let her know what a twit the obstetric consultant had been and what she has said to me, so that made me relax a little.

It's easier said than done but trust me none of this is anything you have done at all.

amysaurus87 · 02/02/2018 17:36

Was meant to add try not to worry! Whoops...can I blame baby brain yet?

Pumpkinma · 02/02/2018 18:04

@Ninjamilo thank you! Not got my gtg till the 13th so a way off, I'm going to keep a strict eye on my diet till then just in case. My last day at work was supposed to be 27th of Feb but I think I'm going to use my last holiday and go early too

@amysaurus87 thanks for the reassurance I think I've got the crazy out of my system now. Just need to take things as they come I suppose

dkb15164 · 02/02/2018 18:36

@Pumpkinma I hope everything goes the way you want it to but just remember whatever kind of birth you end up having, you'll have some amount of say in the end. My friend had a belly birth just before Christmas despite her initially pushing for a water birth without pain relief. Her partner showed me the video and it was really lovely - they had the curtain down (not at all gory), she was completely conscious as they had decided and planned it a day or two after being given the word that a belly birth was going to be their only option due to the size of the baby and the size of her hips, they had skin to skin contact very quickly after the birth although not immediate and they were both sobbing and crying happy tears. You'll do great no matter what because most importantly of all, that baby is coming in to a world where the mom loves them more than anything given the worrying which is all a baby can ask for. My mums a midwife and she calls the larger babies on her ward "overloved" so keep that in mind, you just fell in love with your baby a bit quicker than the rest of us did.

Managed to get into antenatal classes but they only had space in the solo ladies classes and then my partner comes to the fourth and final session. I feel a bit bad as he really wants to be involved with everything baby (my mum suggested I go stay with her for a few days break before the baby comes and he immediately starts looking at what days we can both get off work because he doesn't want to be away from both me and the baby for that long 🙄🙄🙄). I'm also a bit worried I'll forget everything I learn with my current baby brain so I won't be able to repeat it back to him - is it weird to take notes? Used to doing them for uni so I can refer back to stuff. Other mums might look at me like I'm a lunatic but honestly my memory has completely gone these days, if I remember my own date of birth never mind the baby's due date it's a good day.

Bez9087 · 02/02/2018 19:07

@annamadden the huge tubigrip 🙈 I put it on before how she showed me and it feels like it’s cutting off circulation to bottom bit of my bump and pinning babies into my pubic bone 😳 it isn’t too bad just doubled like she showed me but then it really itches so going to try it over a top tomorrow (I’m in pjs now haha!)
@pumpkina try not to worry easier said than done I know but that’s an amazing weight for bubs. Just remember all scans are estimates! My friend got induced early as they told her the baby wasn’t growing as well and was only 4lb and she came out over 6lbs. Sometimes the scans estimates aren’t always as accurate xx

AnnaMadden · 02/02/2018 20:15

@Bez9087 I didn't get on with the tube grip...I found it made it worse so I was glad it was only temporary whilst my physio ordered me the proper brace. It's much better as it keeps my pelvis stable and gently lift baby up away from the painful area. As it's fully adjustable too it's easy to adjust as baby moves or you need more support elsewhere. I'd definitely ask for one of those if you don't get on with that!
